    Prior to 2017 I used 3 expensive dash cam brands. They all failed with corrupt files, not recording or other issues. In 2017, I switched to Viofo 720p (at thst time). Now I am using the dual Viofo 1080 & 2k on 3 cars & never failed. The only issue, for large suv, you need 16ft cable for the bak camera that you can order from viofo (it comes with 10 or 13 ft).

    Hey Bob thanks for another great video. I've had a VIOFO Dashcam mounted in my GX using the rear mirror connection adaptor for the last 2 years. I thought I saw this installation on your channel, but maybe got it from somewhere else. I'm very happy with the camera. I've caught 2 accidents with it, one was a rollover, and the other was between 2 cars at an intersection. I used the video to send to the police, never heard anything back but hope someone would do the same for me. My daughter was also rear ended and was able to have that on video, at least the from the front camera. Which brings me to my question. I have not mounted the rear camera, which would have caught the rear end collision. I've wanted to mount the rear camera but didn't want an outside mount. I'm thinking of doing a rear camera mount inside my GX.
    So, here's my idea, run the rear camera cable along the PASSENGER side, either in the headliner above the door or the floorboards. This will end up at the rear hatch near the hinges. There is a black rubber wire conduit between the car body and the rear hatch. Run the cable through that conduit and into the rear hatch. Remove the rear hatch plastic covers, (I saw you did this in a prior video), then run the cable along the exposed hatch to above the glass. Then attach the dashcam to the inside hatch glass leaving slack in the cable to open and close the glass hatch.
    What do you think?

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  3 місяці тому

      @@jimdonnelly4475 The cable that comes with the kit is not long enough. If you notice my routing straight to the back gave me barely enough slack to Mount the camera at the left rear. Plus I’m not sure what type of clarity you would get with an inside camera looking through limo tint.

    • @jimdonnelly4475
      @jimdonnelly4475 3 місяці тому

      @@GXBOB OK, good points I'll have to check the length of the cable. Plus I could temporally attach the rear camera to check the clarity before proceeding. Now just need to to get motivated in this heat.. oh it's only 101 f here in Arizona..

      What camera are you using? Does the power adapter allow the camera to work in “park” mode without draining the battery?

    • @RobbieBurchett
      @RobbieBurchett 8 днів тому

      I have the older Viofo dual camera with Micro USB installed in my GX. For the rear cam, I installed it similar to your description and the wire was just long enough (I recall having about 6-12" of cable left). It's going along the passenger headliner through the black grommet in to the back door and in to the glass. This is MUCH better than installing it outside under the bumper, but is more time consuming and tedious of an install.

    good point anh bob, and thanks for bringing up the use case scenario where cloud recording fails, seems like we live by the motto of rather have and not need rather than need and not have, especially when you really need it at the most important (costly) time and it's not there...

      @@phudamus I have this recurring issue with my Bluetooth in the Lexus. Not sure if it’s the vehicle or my cellphone that is the culprit but I decided to not use my cellphone anymore. Any time you pair a device to your vehicle, your truck has a habit of automatically connecting to every device that it saved when paired in the past. The problem is Lexus doesn’t know which device is default. Bluetooth has always given me a headache.

      @@GXBOB i think it's always an issue when you have multiple devices that uses the same form of communication to the central unit, i have a rove unit that does NOT have a rear facing camera, which in light of what you brought up regarding interactions from behind the vehicle or interactions w/in the vehicle could be potential gaps. the Rove is nice in that it uses SD and has a built in display so i can inspect immediately. i never thought about potential police interactions and fraudulent behaviors from others from behind. that is something to keep in mind now.

      @@marklerfald My dashcam doesn’t impede on any line of sight because if u look from the side, the dashcam is located below the plane of the mirror. I haven’t had any issues as of late but there are other locations to consider if that worries you. I thought of top left of windshield since the camera has extensive wide angle capabilities.

    Great stuff, Bob. Thank you.
    Question - I only want one channel so just ordered the VIOFO Dash Cam A119 Mini 2.
    My plan was to use a dongar adapter and connect for power behind the rearview. Will connecting in this manner, versus hardwiring with the viofo kit, still allow the camera to operate in “park” mode? I don’t want to drain the battery and cause myself headaches.

    • @GXBOB
      @GXBOB  2 місяці тому

      @@lieferiksen good thing shoot VIOFO is it has a fail safe di your battery doesn’t drain. There’s a setting that reads your voltage in parking mode. You can set the camera to shut down once your battery falls below the voltage you set. I believe it’s on the hardwire kit not on the Dongar option.
