Really miss this kind of gymnastics. So sad that the code of points no longer reward such masterpieces.
Through her gymnastics Daniela Silivas expressed the joy and innocence of childhood. She was happiness personified.
Such a beautiful technician and dancer. Dance ability light years ahead of most today, with poise, musicality and flair (and top drawer difficulty on all apparatus for her time as well). Her line, shown especially well on the bars, was one of the very best during the time she competed. A fabulous gymnast, who should be celebrated for her fantastic talent and all her achievements.
2 European champion.
2 World champion.
1 Olympic champion.
The Queen floor in '80. No doubt.
Queen on beam too!
It was impossible not loving her.
It is impossible not to love her *
Her 1988 compulsory will forever be in my heart.❤
ABSOLUTE PERFECTION
Nothing will beat the drama and show of the 1988 Olympics... The individual finals, omg. With sikuvas and shushaniva, one 10 after another...and the incredibly different styles of the two gymnasts couldn't be further apart, which made it more awesome
Totally agree. Best ever floor compulsory imo, Podkopayeva in 1996 second. Just unmatched. I firmly believe that she was the worthy winner of the floor event gold medal because of that compulsory routine. No one came close.
Forever the gold standard!
She is in my opinion te best gymnast
Me too
She is the best to me. Grace, and power. Beautiful choreography as well! Fantastic!
She's a legend!
Her movements were/are always so crisp and beautiful...she's simply the best!
Favorite gymnast. I miss this type of gymnastics.
The twin spins at 4:22 - OMG. So perfect. She really was a dancer. So much fun to watch - thank you!!
Thank you for enjoying!!!
Her 87 and 88 routines are still some of the best routines in gymnastics history. By 89 she said she'd lost some of her motivation, but she was still great!!
You are totally correct. The best true floor worker ever. Modern gymnasts are wonderful acrobats.
Why did she retire so young?
@@cecilianovais212 Burnout and injuries
@@cecilianovais212 back then that was the average age to retire. Also revolution took place in Romania and everything was messy. Her head coaches left the country too.
I have been looking for her 1987 floor routine. I never forgot it. One of the best routines ever expressed. I found it tonight.
Exquisita! Espectacular!
You can see so much of Moceanu’s choreography from 96 in these 80s Romanian teams.
Isso que eu pensei. Me lembrou Moceanu
One of The most graceful gymnast ever. Light-footed Diva.
An absolute joy to watch
There was such a profound difference in Daniela's elegance and difficulty between 1985 and 1986.
Same with 1986 and 1987.
Dance artistry, where gymnasts showed graceful moves in time with the music, and showed emotion, feeling - not there today. More emphasis on difficulty has meant routines are dominated wirh skills as opposed to the original intent of floor routines
I agree! So much tumbling leaves little room for dance. It's made for boring gymnastics in my opinion 😴
@@sallydaniel1023 maybe they could introduce a 5th event - separate tumbling to have it separate, or create a second floor event where dance and artistry are more heavily favoured....
@@anovemberstar They already have power tumbling
Yes yes yes. I find routines today without the soul of the past. Tourischeva's coach Rastorotsky said that choreography, dance and artistry was critical to the presentation of the routine, and difficulty in the gymnastic elements performed should work in harmony with the artistic presentation. He said that each gymnast had something unique to present to the judges, and that is her artistry - difficulty should supplement that.
I feel that has been lost now - in order to do well, gymnasts must show difficulty that has not necessarily been mastered. The choppy choreography and 'hard' leaps/spins detract from the overall gymnastic experience, in my opinion.
@@sallydaniel1023 actually, better plan woudl be to bring back compulasries, even if its just for beam and floor. gymnasts could pic which event they want to add, only do one of them even.
One of the queens of floor imo.
Absolute legend.
OMG, the third performance, my mouth hung open
You can really see her improving and maturity in the dance through the years
Wow, ive never seen that second tumbling pass where she's in the blue leotard on the yellow mat in 1986 ..that was awesome!!!
They called it the “two-in-one” back in the day! Watch this! This is where it originated! Omeilianchik

@@worldartgym. And it’s colloquially known as “back-to-back” tumbling!
@@yuiop6611 it is now, yes - you’re right, but my point was television commentators in ‘85 called it “two (passes) in one” or at least the versions I watched called it that
I love Silivas.
What can you say? She is grace and joy and perfection. Now the floor exercise is just boring long tumbles. I dont see joy in performing now. Thats a shame.
As romenas dão o nome na ginástica. Rainhas incomparáveis e Maravilhosas.
At 4:04 absolutely amazing!
The perfect 10! Daniela still loving you❤
The Romanians kicked ass in ‘87!
Her form was IMPECCABLE!
My favorites are the 1987 World Championships and the 88 Olympics! She also looks amazing at the 1989 World Championships!
Not having that super power ability she preformed a double double on FX 1988 I will never forget that moment that was an apex of skill and desire
Remember when amplitude was rewarded? My understanding is current GOP gives same points for doing crappy, but completed skill, as someone who does it masterfully with amplitude.
Commentator Monica Phelps being Monica talking about how silivas struggling with her weight in ‘89….tho woman was a savage! 😂
the best gymnast ever
She was amazing! She did big gymnastics!
Bravo Daniela🥰🥰
She was 12 in 1984
Her classic routine starts at 5:18. It's just beautiful.
Ufff Romanians girls rule 💪💓💪
great
1980s at Daniela silivas of rivalries soviet unions elena shushunova.
Bela and Marta are there as always behind one of the worlds greatest gymnast.
I don't think she was ever trained by Belu, who had already defected to the US. Her head coach was Adrian Goreac who defected in the revolution and was taken over by Bellu.
Tenia como antes belleza y talento
Maravilhosas❤
She was 2 years old in the first dance
yeeesss💝💝💝
I often wondered why she didn’t try for Barcelona, she certainly had the chops still to challenge for a gold in many events. It certainly is true though that she’d been at it for a long while- especially in that era with far less padding and give to the apparatus. She still had an amazing career though!
Rewards for difficulty only results in less artistry, and a ton of injuries for the athlete's. Have you ever seen so many shoulder injuries before in WAG!
I would add her 1987 Dtb cup routine
1:36 - 1:45 😍❤
tricks generally weren't as difficult then as some of them are now when Daniela was competing the highest difficulty rating was D-E in some its up to I or J now
How old was she? Was she a day over 8?
Ahhhh yooooo
That's weird, she didn't do her signature move in any of these routines? Am I crazy?
She did it in the 88 Olympics at team finals, which is not included in this compilation.
@@soledadferrer1325 Thank you!
She only competed it once and it arguably cost her the gold in the Olympic all-around.
When you said signature move, I immediately thought of the the hoedown from her 85 routine 😭. I refer to her signature move by the name of its true inventor, the Pryakhina 🙏
🇷🇴🤸🏻🫶🏻
very impressive performance, I think today's gymnasts such as Simona Biles doesn't match with her.
When there were less rules to worry about, there was more artistry. Now gymnasts have to accumulate points rather than tell a story. It’s not any specific gymnast’s fault, rather the scoring system and what has evolved over time.
You would be right, Simone has far surpassed any of them. She is the most decorated gymnast(male or female).
@@jacobmiller2663 with doping ithen me can run maraton all medals of biles are with doping
Wheres 88 routine?
In several of my other videos… look around!

German commentator a little shady lol
Uh oh!!! What are they saying???
Like than the American commentators from the 80s and 90s.. Calling them fragile little girls - when they were 15, 16 years old.....?
@@worldartgym it's not too bad but he is like "the acrobatics are not the problem. the dancing however...well...a matter of taste"
@@lpoco0006 oh!... The story of my UA-cam channel 😂
Where is silivas?
13:38 So professional gymnastics is a lower level? The concept doesn't make sense. The best aren't pro. They only go pro when they're washed up? Very odd. What they talked about didn't materialize.
Kalah di tangan pesenam soviet.. elena shushunova.
She looks so tiny...
Those Nadia fans... The girl will always have the title for the best ever (although that's highly debatable, again: highly debatable), but you guys keep comparing her to all the other gymnasts. What for? That's kinda pointless and stupid, I must say. But hey...
It is very, very good but it lacks the exquisiteness and grace of Nadia Comaneci
Nadia was perfect but was never considered the most artistic, I need to side with Silivas here (moreso later in her career) as being more artistic than Nadia.
@@worldartgym even Dobre was one of those gymnast that had the it factor, also her level of virtuosity and artistic expression were incredible. In my book Silivas and Dobre were as talented as Comaneci, too bad Dobre was injured in 1988.
@@worldartgym But what is it to be perfect after all? I mean, Comaneci was AMAZING, don't get me wrong, but I can name a few that I find better (or let's say more interesting/daring) than her, just to start with: Mukhina, Shushunova, Silivas, maybe Nellie Kim. I think we were led by the media to believe she was the best ever, and that remained an untouchable issue.
@@hjaidar Nadias Perfection nabady equalized She have more 10s than your mukina o shushunova and in 80 in Maskva mafiotic judges stolen gold Team from Romania
