Once again you break down how to do these terrain in interesting bites that can be easily understood. That, along with your humor, makes your channel something really special. Thank you for the great video.
Awesome content. Lucky me I stumbled across this. This is Pro Level made easy. …surprisingly you channel is yet so small in subscriptions. Keep going! Thanks
Your video quality and creativity is really unrivaled for this kind of content. I'm not even actively crafting at the moment but I will always watch your videos just because they're a fun watch. I hope you know that your effort into all the cutaways, puns, and transitions is not going to waste.
Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment. Feedback like this is super validating and helps me feel more connected to the people watching so I really appreciate it!
This is becoming one of my favorite crafting channels. This is another great modular build taking the familiar terrain stackers to the next level of utility. I have a box of desert stackers that see regular use, but if I ever make new ones I'll be doing it your way. Thanks for sharing your creative innovations.
I love your channel so much! Followed your steps to create this epic desert rubble terrain and my husband used it in his campaign tonight. The players loved it! Cannot wait to follow more of your tutorials.
Aww this is so sweet!! I love hearing about when people try out the instructions and it works well for them! I'm so glad I could contribute to the epic-ness haha.
Sands down the best desert terrain I've seen. Nice work, Dune! (All these puns make me both ill and happy at the same time.😬) FYI "Fender" washers are the ones with the smaller holes. Also, I find melting the spaces for the washers, magnets, pennies, etc with a hotwire 'pencil' (not sure what the attachment is called) easier than trying to carve out the space. YMMV. Cheers.
😂 I *drought* to take your feedback to heart--and I will! Yes! Another viewer let me know the same so I will make sure to mention that if I feature these fender washers in another video. And I hadn't thought to use a wood burning tool for melting small spaces rather than cutting. This I shall also try next time. Thanks for the tips!
I've got waay too many interests and waaaay too little time. But I want to add this to my list of interests. These videos are so well made and make it look like so much fun.
this is beautiful work! i'll definitely give it a try. also i love how you developed your own style, rae'chel! specially in your script + editing hahaha (mojave was GOLD)
Ahhh I'm so happy!!! Thanks for covering some modular terrain, these are amazing! I love these videos, and I love seeing your channel starting to take off, you absolutely deserve it!! Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Your channel appeared at exactly the right time for me! I just bought a bunch of foam to make a board with a lot of extra to make scatter and hills, there's so many ideas in here that I hadn't seen before!
ive been watching RPArchives for a long while now, but never actually got into terrain building. it was always a bit intimidating. Something about your style makes this seem so much more approachable. Thank you!
Yes! RP Archive's builds are meticulous and precise--which I personally really enjoy and I understand that it can be harder to get into. I was hoping to find a middle ground with this video so it sounds like maybe it came across!
You know, it'd be really cool to see this sort of thing done with magnetic trees and red clay (and perhaps some sparse grass?) As to emulate the red bluffs you'd see in Mississippi, or the redwood forests of California. Or even the Australian outback! I think it'd be a nice mix up from the typical forests and hills you usually see in this hobby!
For sure adding this to the list of future projects! Mayhaps a desert pt 3 because I do agree that there are still more elements to a desert that could be included to make it more vibrant!
look into getting some Forstner Drill Bits, used for cutting precise, flat-bottomed holes in wood. Should be able to use them by hand if only cutting foam.
I think the white areas are caused by the grout being somewhat hydrophobic, it's probably repelling the top layer of paint off it on the first pass. I quick spritz of IPA over the grout might break the surface tension of the dry grout, and allow your paint to stay in place. Just a theory... I've found grout to be a bit finicky at times in my own work.
Ah okay thank you for the insight! I have tried spritzing with alcohol on my desert boards, but I didn't try using it after or amidst painting. I'll keep it in mind for future attempts.
Ooh, desert terrain is perpetually down quite a ways on my to-do list, despite how useful it'd be for one of the games I'm running. This is inspiring me to bump it up quite a few spots after I finish one of my current projects...
Thank you! And yes I didn't do anything to alter the washers--they are easy and safe to use. You can get them at your local hardware store. Another viewer mentioned they are called "Fender" washers!
Hey this is probably my favorite video for desert terrain that i've found. Question if you don't mind. Are you working with 2" thick foam board or is it 1" that you're gluing together? For the bigger pieces specifically.
Thank you! And I would use 2" thick foam if I could get it easily here. 2" thick foam for me is sold in 1" sheet glued together so i just do it myself haha. That being said, 1" sheets tend to be just shy of 1", so I diiiid have to use two 1" layers, plus a thin offcut that was like 1/8"?
I just heat up washers with some fire and tweezers to insert into the bottom of the foam rather than cutting an insert. The washer just melts it's way in.
As a suggestion, if you have the option, use acrylic inks rather than paints for the pseudo leopard spotting technique. The end result tends to be better and it mixes far better with water
@@raecheldoes Just remember that the inks tend to have a higher percentage of pigment in them when you thin it out so you don't need as much. And despite the bottles costing a bit more, they last a LOT longer because of it.
Great as usual! Any way you could link the magnets you use? I've tried a few different neodymium magnets and so far they haven't really been strong enough.
I honestly buy mine off of ebay from different suppliers! But for sure placement is important to have as thin of material and distance between the magnets as possible. Also look for N52 rather than N35 or anything lower, as N52 is rated as the highest for magnetism. RP Archive also has links to suppliers through his videos. Thanks for your support btw, and I hope that helps!
Oh that is a possibility! I don't know how hot they would need to be heated or how I might accurately place them, but maybe an oven and tongs/pliers could do the trick...
I had initially planned for the bottoms to be flat, but you know you can definitely fill them in after if you need or not bother with them being filled at all.
These desert pieces are pretty simple to store because yes they do stack well into a draw or box etc. RP Archive actually has a really great video on creating home-made storage for terrain if you're interested!
RP Archive would be the authority on this! I think he's got some connections and discounts for magnets in different countries if that's helpful! You can find it on his website or likely in the descriptions of his videos.
Would it work to use sheet sheetmetal on the top so that the magnets would work no matter where you place them ? And if you have thought of this is there any reasons why it would be a bad idea to do this ?
That is definitely an option! And I think RP Archive actually does this with his tiles using ferrous sheets of some kind. I personally don't have access to a reasonably priced supplier, so the washers was a great cheap alternative, but I am definitely considering ferrous sheets for future projects.
@raecheldoes ok so it's mainly a price issue 😊 I haven't looked into what they would be here but I know many ppl use them to line their miniatyr carriers if they have their minis magnetized 😊
So 5 cent nickels are made out of nickel which is magnetic I don't know how much your washers cost. Alternatively you can pick you magnetic white boards from the dollar store and cut or punch circles or strips out of the metal sheet.
Gimme the puns. I've made similar terrain before and I like to use wooden skewers sunk in between the layers to bond them even tighter together, though it may be unnecessary.
Yes! I've considered this as well but I'm too deep in the magnet game now haha. Wooden skewers is definitely a great option though. And yes. The puns can't stop won't stop.
Honestly - The puns are incredibly annoying to me. Your content is otherwise great, but I am just not feeling the "Eh, see what I did there!? EH?!" of your puns :/
I'll assume that's a giant lighter... and that you don't have tiny hands. Nice rocks.
I am secretly a gnome, please don't tell anyone.
Once again you break down how to do these terrain in interesting bites that can be easily understood. That, along with your humor, makes your channel something really special. Thank you for the great video.

I love the hoodoo that you doodoo.
I laughed way too hard at this 😂
Well done again. 💖 Wish I could find time like you to craft. 😢
Wonderful job, as always!
Thank you thank you for your support!
Happy to see new, excellent faces (or more accurately, disembodied voices) in the TTRPG terrain YT space!
Thank you, kindly! This faceless voice is happy to be here haha.

Thank you for the generous feedback! I'm happy these ideas might be useful to even those who have desert terrain already!
YOU ARE CRUSHING IT. Love this and your vids.
AH!! Thank you 🥹
Excellent quality video thank you for making this
great video as always, doing excellent work.
JUST discovered your channel! SO good!
The washers you refer to are "Fender" washers, they have the smaller hole. I use them for bases for weight and for transport.
Ah good to know! Thank you and I'll be sure to mention that next time.
Quite an interesting video. It's giving me ideas for my boards. Thanks.
I've been waiting for the new video and I was not disappointed!
Yay! I'm so glad 😀

The production (and pun) quality of your videos is always great! I'm going to have to make a few of these.
I've got waay too many interests and waaaay too little time. But I want to add this to my list of interests. These videos are so well made and make it look like so much fun.
I really dig all the geology puns....even if they are tor-able and un-silicic-ed.
Well I'm glad the puns tran- *slate* well, so I *shale* be continuing!
@@raecheldoes Good one! Just don't take you pun skills for granite.
Love how you did this terrain 😊
This is exactly what I was trying to figure out for my SW Legion terrain on Tatooine! Great work, I'm definitely going to use this!
Oh ya, now this where it at, best desert tutorial ive seen!
Woohoo thank you!
Yay, new video! Thanks, that was another fun one
Glad you enjoyed it!
In the process of making these. Going well so far
Super cool, love it
30 seconds in and this is now one of my favorite channels
Yesssss I'm stoked
this is beautiful work! i'll definitely give it a try.
also i love how you developed your own style, rae'chel!
specially in your script + editing hahaha (mojave was GOLD)
Thank you so much for your feedback! It's affirming and I'm stoked you enjoy my work and my puns haha. Hopefully the tutorial serves you well!
That absolute unit of a lighter!
Yes! I saw it and had to have it.
Awesome build! I think this would be a great candidate for RPA's trick of using steel can lids instead of washers.
Ooh yes especially for the much larger pieces absolutely! Time to eat some chili...
Ahhh I'm so happy!!! Thanks for covering some modular terrain, these are amazing!
I love these videos, and I love seeing your channel starting to take off, you absolutely deserve it!!
Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Your enthusiasm is contagious! Thank you so much for your encouragement and support! 🥲❤️
Puns and Spaceballs, a winning combination.
You've always got great terrain ideas. These pieces are really versatile, and they look good too!
Aww thank you! Those are all the boxes that I could hope to check off. Especially from a fellow creator :)
Your channel appeared at exactly the right time for me! I just bought a bunch of foam to make a board with a lot of extra to make scatter and hills, there's so many ideas in here that I hadn't seen before!
Woohoo! That sounds like wonderful timing and I hope the ideas serve you well :)
Good looking set. And I like how you do the step-by-step without it taking forever. Well done.
Thank you! I try my best to keep it concise so I'm happy that comes across!
ive been watching RPArchives for a long while now, but never actually got into terrain building. it was always a bit intimidating. Something about your style makes this seem so much more approachable. Thank you!

Thanks so much!
Thanks. Beautiful.
I salute you for sharing this knowledge as that looks like it was an absolute *mesa*!
Oh I had to *dry* real hard to keep my desk clean!

Ah thank you for the suggestion! Someone else also suggested a wood burning tool so I will look into those options.
These look good and the paintjob is very nice but didn't you want sandy deserts? These are fitting for rocky deserts
I created these with the rocky deserts in mind, actually, so I'm glad that came across!
I think the white areas are caused by the grout being somewhat hydrophobic, it's probably repelling the top layer of paint off it on the first pass. The eternal struggle of picking which project gets the top spot on a creator's to-do list 😂 I'm honoured if I can even bump something up one spot!
As always, an awesome video and craft! The metal disc was a great idea. Is a metal piece easy to get and safe to use and manipulate.
Thank you! And yes I didn't do anything to alter the washers--they are easy and safe to use. You can get them at your local hardware store. Another viewer mentioned they are called "Fender" washers!
How about sloping the sides to resemble dunes?
Hiya Raechel, really love your creativity and wonder if you would like to try our laser engraver, my friend?
I love these! you have a new subscriber!
Woohoo!! Welcome, welcome 😊
Great video, actually all of your videos are great.
I'm glad you think so!
Anyone know what is the mini that appears in 5:52? I mean, the big monster
Hey this is probably my favorite video for desert terrain that i've found. Question if you don't mind. Are you working with 2" thick foam board or is it 1" that you're gluing together? For the bigger pieces specifically.

Oh that is a possibility! I don't know how hot they would need to be heated or how I might accurately place them, but maybe an oven and tongs/pliers could do the trick...
Why did you leave foam in the middle of the washers?
I had initially planned for the bottoms to be flat, but you know you can definitely fill them in after if you need or not bother with them being filled at all.
Question, how do you storage all of this? Can you put terrain atop other terrain pieces inside a desk?
These desert pieces are pretty simple to store because yes they do stack well into a draw or box etc. RP Archive actually has a really great video on creating home-made storage for terrain if you're interested!
First video of yours I've seen. I subscribed! Even with the puns!
It's really a love or cringe thing at this point 😅
is there a decnt place for magnet in the uk?
RP Archive would be the authority on this! I think he's got some connections and discounts for magnets in different countries if that's helpful! You can find it on his website or likely in the descriptions of his videos.

Then all is right in the world 😂
This is dope but i'm too into clay and gotta make my stuff out of either polymer or apoxy clay.

0:39 Nice looking potato you have there
It's the second best iteration of a potato, imo
Great terrain, terrible puns. What's not to love?
Beautiful work, as usual. But... uh.. 2:30 🤨
Never stop with the puns. No matter how terrible they're all great
Can't stop won't stop
OK, I usually hate puns. I really really hate them.
But - I'm making 'sahara'zontal lines....?

Very Cool😍😍🤘🤘😎😎
if you just paint the washer that goes between the 2 South Magnetized pieces the same as the rest of the terrain it'll not even be noticeable i bet.
That would absolutely be the thing to do!
The puuuuuns
Yeeeeess
Another comment for another watch.
Honestly - The puns are incredibly annoying to me. Your content is otherwise great, but I am just not feeling the "Eh, see what I did there!? EH?!" of your puns :/
I regret to inform you that the tribe has spoken, and they have spoken in favour of the puns, *nomad* -er what. Eh? See what I did there? ;)
7:39 achievemetn unlocked LOL
