    I was told 2 years ago I had to have both Knees replaced. My impression was the "Specialist"seemed in a hurry for me to sign up. In the office he said I will be walking in 3 days, as I left full of hope the receptionist gave me a booklet to read. this said about 6 months before I was mobile. I cancelled and 2 years later with exercise, my knees are flexible . What they did not take into account both knees and ankles suffered trauma one in the army and the other at work . I can walk pretty well no pain or clicking. I have been using your tips. Thanks

    My knee history: Jan, 2013 Left knee hurts after a 50 min walk in the snow in the park. Temp was just about freezing. (Was told it was due to osteoarthritis).
    Apr 2016 x-ray of both knees show mild deterioration of the cartilage.pain is due to the bone rubbing on bone. . .. (it has not been too severe)
    Weight exercises to strengthen the muscles in/around the knee
    Can jog as long as I can bear the pain as it also helps to build muscle around knee.
    I used to run 5km in about 30 minutes which I stopped in 2012 but kept cycling during the summer and treadmill during winter.
    This spring/summer/fall I cycled over 3000 km minimum of 30km in about 100 minutes.
    While walking on the treadmill now (Dec 2021), I sometimes jog up to two minutes at 5km per hour, to get my heart rate up (in an effort to not go back on high blood pressure meds! 60 days meds free, BP under 140/90 for a 69 yr male)
    Over the years, I was prescribed pain meds for the knee but after a while, I realized being active was much better medicine. Yes, I thought of re-doing the x-ray to compare to year 2016 .. . .maybe in 2022. Regards, Maisha from Whitby, Ontario, Canada

    Knowing that there is not much research makes me feel better! 10 to 12 months is nothing compared to being told NEVER. I will keep hope that my body will heal as evolution and biology intended. Even if it takes 5 years until healing is something to push through the pain of OA.

      @@epmanualphysicaltherapy Totally agree. I had weak abductors which I fixed. I feel way less pain and hope I am on the way to recovery. I can tell the cartilage is damaged, but believe that now there is space in the joint, healing can begin. Your video gives me hope!

    Mine kinda healed by going to the gym. There's a machine where u sit and put the feet on a platform and push the weight up. I do just minimal weight and I hold both my kneecaps while I push. I also eat chicken feet, I boil them out. You're supposed to give them raw to dogs , it s very good for them. So, I make soup out of that cartilage. I'm not healed, however it's a lot better than years ago.

    Hi Dr David, thank you for your educational videos. My PCP said, according to my knee X-rays, I have osteoarthritis in both knees. Fortunately, I have no chronic pain. I’ve been doing exercises you recommend including ‘tailgate swing’ (with 5lb ankle weights). In this video you mentioned too much activity can negatively effect the benefits of the exercises and therefore the healing process. Would you please specify which activities, or types of activities, I shouldn’t do (I.e. yard work, leg extensions, leg curls, etc.). Thanks again for your wonderful videos.

    There is another proceedure called PROLOTHERAPY, where saline solution or an irritant is injected into the joint, this causes irritation, and is suppose to cause the body to then send healing material, blood ? to the site.

    It's been a year since my injury and about 9 months since I've been doing your 28 day knee program almost every day. It has helped so much. I still get a little knee pain if I walk too far without an unloader knee brace. Do you think I will need the brace forever? Or should a few more months of exercise and tailgates be enough?

      This is fantastic to hear Aloha Dogs!!!!
      Thank you for updating us on your success!!!!
      It's hard to tell how long you'll need the brace...but if your knee keeps getting slightly better month after month, then go as long as your knee needs it. You'll need to keep getting stronger as well. There's no deadline if you're improving. For some, it takes months, while for others it takes a year or more.

      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 роки тому

      Hey M Shafiq! It sounds like you need to visit a manual therapist in your area so you can see if they can help your knee with specific treatment. You might try that to better exhaust your options before going through surgery. You should know if it's going to help you within 3-4 visits.
      In the US, you can find a manual physical therapist trained similar to Dr. David at this website: aaompt.org/Main/Public_Resources/Find-A-Fellow/Main/Member_Resources/Find-A-Fellow.aspx?hkey=108c9a56-f793-45e4-b3ed-cefe5d871a94
      Dr. David is a fellow of the American Academy of Manual Physical Therapists. His specialty is orthopedic manual physical therapy, which is the ideal specialty for helping someone avoid surgery, injections, and medications.
      Normal physical therapists are best trained to help people right after surgery.

    I have a damaged knee, I also have an exercise bike. would using it damage it?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  2 роки тому

      Hey Margaret! Sorry to hear that you have a damaged knee :-(
      It's hard to say if using your exercise bike will damage your knee. It depends on what muscles you use while there. If you mainly use your quads (front of the thighs) then it will likely damage your knees more. If you can make your glutes (butt muscles) work while on the bike, then it will typically help your knees.

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  3 роки тому +3

      Hello Juan! It's great to hear that you're starting our program. Swimming is challenging...if you use your quads while swimming, then it can be harmful for you. If you can make your glutes work while swimming then it can be helpful for a knee problem. It really depends on how you do it. Some people feel better with swimming while others get worse. It comes back to how you use your glutes. The more you can make your glutes work, the better off your knees are 95% of the time.

    Hi, I wish I had seen this video b4 the lateral meniscus repair surgery of my teenage daughter. She had dicoid meniscus so the surgeon decided to shape her discoid meniscus to a common meniscus shape on the spot. He didn't even discuss this with us.
    Never cautioned about the care as it should've been done and now it got worst as she lost some of her cartilage during the recovery time. Also, the physiotherapist didn't take care of the exercises that were need and overloaded my daughters knee.
    I am depressed and anxious about my daughters recovery. Do you think hydrolaunic acid injection as suggested by the surgeon would help?
    How can we avoid further loss of cartilage and take care so that she doesn't loose more cartilage?
    Any supplements that could work?
    Please help us, we are in desperate need of the right guidance to restore her healthy knee so that she can avoid any further surgery and knee damage.
