Note: in all the full band examples there is a high pass filter on all the guitars at 80hz.
This filter is bypassed in the isolated sections.
All controls for both amps were set the same.
With some tweaking both amps can definitely sound even more similar.
What did you think of the amps? Let me know in the comments!
I’m impressed. Looking at them, the Ironheart 60 sounds better.
But if it was a blind test, I’m not sure I could tell which is which.
Good point! ;)
Someone should release a video with the audio swapped over and wait a month or so before telling people haha
Looking at them i can't stand the round transformer that is covered in aluminium foil inside the 60😅
They are very close! You can really hear the headroom kick in when the Ironheart 60's track kicks in!
I have a Laney Ironheart IRT-SLS (300w) and I love it. Yes it's tubepre and SS, but for the bedroom in an apartment it's perfect.
Does the bugger amp have the same capabilities as the studio as far as recording DI and speaker emulation?
@@jroc6166 I believe the only difference is one is solid state and the other has tubes.
They sound almost identical. I could hear some slight low end mud on Ironheart 60, so I actually prefer Studio version, but i believe that mud could be dialed back with the bass knob and then they would sound the same.
Thanks for this video man. My Peavey 6505MH has been on backorder for 2 months with no expected ship date. Meanwhile the Ironheart 15w is in stock, similar price, and frankly sounds better. You basically made my choice for me. Thanks again.
The fast riff really grabbed me, i cant stop listening to it
It's exactly the same sound 👏👍😉
Quickly becoming one of my fav youtubers.
The architecture of both amplifiers is almost identical excluding the EL84/6L6 difference. On the dirty channels OOOOOPH f**'n sweet and crunchy! I can hear the difference mainly on the cleans. The EL84's are more to my personal liking in this instance. Great demo, thumping track too.
Actually, scrap that. Just listened through Yamaha HS-5's. I cannot tell the difference at all. I'm just partial to the EL84's it seems. Those OwnHammer IR's really do kick in hard and shape the sound. You've got both amps on reasonably low master volumes as well. For studio and home either would be perfect for grunty rock and metal. On a stage, you'd want the 60w as a minimum if using a cab but again, if going direct to boards then either is fine.
The choice to me then is do I want a rack mount amp or a head? Thanks again Mr Man!
My favourite cab out of the heavy hitters collection. It just roars!
First of all, thank you for posting these isolated guitar tracks! In a mix it's not the same, now I always prefer the raw tone of the isolated guitars! Secondly, wow!! The IRT studio sounds really good!
I'm glad to own the little beast and using it with ownhamnmer impulses..can't get better than that imo 🙂
Man they both sound kickass. For such a small rack amp, the Studio sure kicks ass and holds its own pretty well.
Great video as always. Love the bass sound as well!
One thing about the IRT Studio that a lot of other companies seem to miss out on: I think it's amazing that you can use the dummy load with a DI out but you can turn off the analog speaker sim. A feature the Peavey MHs lack so you can't use them with impulse responses without an additional load box.... missed opportunity IMO!
Awesome comparison man! I have the IRT Studio and love it to death, even played gigs with it. I am eyeing the 120 watt head however for when I need more headroom and low end grunt, this comparison pretty much convinced me to get one. Thanks. Great execution, this is how all comparison videos should be made. Cheers!
Both killer . Laney builds them right . I have the Studio 15 . Very satisfied from every channel and every option on this amp .
It's hard to choose. I like both.
Thanks for comparison, it is very useful. the 60W has more headroom than 15W. Cheers!!
They're both great but for me the 60w sounded more powerful and tight than the 15w
True.
That's a great work man!
Thanks!
I'm listening back to this for a 3rd time I think (could be more), and I'm not hearing as much difference as I thought I originally did. Maybe the IRTStudio is in my future.
Nice comparison! If you have a chance in the future, can you compare Peavey invective 120 with invective MH? Great sounding drum mix in the intro, by the way.
I would love to but I don't own an Invective and I have no plans to purchase one.
The Invective MH sounds a lot like the 6505 MH. I tried the Invective MH at NAMM and he couldnt really keep up with the 120.
Ok, I'm def buying 60w version. On my headphones (Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro) in a blind test, I hear a bit extended and (surprisingly) tighter low end, combined with glassier and def more extended high end (compared to Studio version). It has to do with the tubes for sure, but overall worth the money difference. Thanks for video! Keep em coming
Waiting for my iron heart 120w to arrive can't wait
This week I'm getting myself an IRT studio and a 1x12 V30 cab.
I wanted to buy Victory Kraken VX, but when I tried it at the store the Master II knob wasn't working. LOL. The guys at the store couldn't fix it. We tried everything (we connected footswitch of course).
And it's very loud. I don't need 50 W at home.
I need something that I can play at bedroom levels and record with it.
So IRT studio seems like a good fit.
Great job on this video demos of these 2 Laneys..I like that Schecter guitar too..I have an earlier Blackjack that I installed a SD Black Winter in the bridge and it sounds awesome ! .I will look and see if my online retailer has this Laney,if they do I will order tomorrow..I have been thinking about the Blackstar HT Stage 100 MK II head with EL-34;s but hearing this demo mainly has me thinking Laney all the way..decisions decisions ! Both amps have pwer reduction but the Laney goes way down and the Blackstar goes down to 10 watts which isn;t too bad. anyway great job you did here !
is the 15 watt possible to manage a band rehearsal in terms of volume?
15w full tube, yes of course, it is loud enough for rehearsal and live show. A friend got the peavey 6505mh, wich is 20w, and never set the volume more than half with a 2x12 cab.
Both of them sound really good. Maybe the head has more crispy highs on the edges, but this is just the first impression. But regarding full band rehearsal, or live situation does Laney IRT Studio EL84 has enough power to be able to sound loud enough?
I like el84. It's so punch and focus sound.
15w on twin el84 - it's good choice for me.
I am owner of TT, JR, DT and I want have 5150mh and irt studio too.
50-100w is cool, but not for me. Large, massive. Need for big scene or arena only. For each other time 15-30w it s need and enough .
IMHO
Laney IRT Studio 15W quality vs price is definitely the WINNER!
You Rock! Wow!
Biggest difference is in the cleans and I think the 15 takes the cake with that.
Still searching for a 5150 vs ironheart comparing , can u do it ? 🤘🏻🍻
Not a bad idea
I have a 120w ironheart, the other guitarist in my band has a 120w 6505. The 6505 has much nicer tone in my opinion, though I did get the amp second hand and I'm thinking of a change of valves, both are great amps but the peavey just has that sound
The 60 watt has an adjustable wattage feature so can't you get the same low volume sounds with the 60 as with the 15, plus have the additional volume and headroom when you need it?
Awesome stuff as usual, very professional comparison. Are you planning on doing a lunchbox head comparison ? And do you have an ENGL Ironball ?
Yeah, a lunchbox comparison will definitely be made at some point! I don't own an Ironball unfortunately
@@SonicDriveStudioCool :) Would really like to see that. Lunchboxes are getting more attention than ever because of their portability and volume, actually usable in an appartment.
@@pimsmise yeah man, I love the lunchbox amps! Some people can be a little negative about them but I'super positive. I also have some bigger heads, love those too but the little ones sound great and are small which is also handy. Plus, they look cute. lol
@@SonicDriveStudio yep same for me. And I understand the fuss honestly, some of them are not really all tube and don't compare to bigger amps (which I love too but in a small appartment, not so much) but some of them are surprisingly good! The ironball, the MarkV 25, the 5153 that you've got, for example, all have a very high quality sound !
Hi! Would be cool to compare with the new Laney LoudPedal!
Great comparison videos, your videos are very useful for us. I have a small request, if you can please compare the Laney irt 60 and evh 5150 lbx? Because both are in the same price range.
Nicely done indeed, great tone and mix. I've been struggling with finding a decent demo that ISN'T a twangy (and fuck awful) djent tone, so this is a nice showing of what the Irt can really do. I am leaning more on the El34's, given how warm and punchy the mids are. 6L6's may sound "tight" but just lack guts for me, not to mention sounding horribly dry and nasal on other demos (sound good here). Quick question, would the Irt60 welcome some KT77's? Those sound monstrous.
I love 6L6's but when I had my Triple XXX Peavey head it also had the EL34--6L6 switch on the back and wow it sounded great with E34l's,nice fat bottom and the EL34 midrange grind..I too wonder if this Laney can handle KT77's..I had to install new bigger resistors for the power tubes to handle the E34L's but it was worth it...KT77;s I guess are the best of both worlds ?
Have the irt 120 full stack...and it's the dogs bollocks, I love it don't think I need any other amp
How do you write your drums ??!!
Ouch forgot wanna ask you, i think IRT sounds great for metal or highgain music, is it good enough for bluesy or rocknroll music? Need your input 🙏🏻 thanks , greetings from jakarta indonesia 🤟🏼
Hi! I think it would be able to do that style just fine, especially if you have a tube screamer etc
Sounds great! For the IRT Studio..Are you connected your guitar in 1 or 15w input? Where does it sound more powerful?
15w input. Haven't tried the 1w input yet
@@SonicDriveStudio Thanks! Currently I record guitars with my IRT Studio in 1watts (+Cabinet: TH-U Slate Edition) but i don't know if exists difference of significant tone in 15watts...I'm confused. Greetings from Chile!
How did you use EL84 with no trouble? I have IRT60 and the bias switch only handles 6L6 and EL34.
Got myself a IRT Studio off the back of this very demo. Happy with it thus far, but am quite surprised by how little gain it actually has. Not that I use alot of gain compared to others, but to get it squishing I need to use nearly all of it (And a boost). Is this your experience and which preamp tubes do you recommend?
So, I think the bigger one sounds better only because it reminds me of a modded Marshall, where as the IRT studio sounds more...kempt? Modern?
Did they have a different at amount of gain?
Thanks for posting this ... im looking for a small tube solution to aungment my current peavey vypyr vip2 setup ive been using on my channel for the last 3+ years now. So the Laney IRT is one solution i have been researching & can get a new unit for a reasonable price canadian. With my dedicated hardware soundcard & set of Senheiser over hear headphones ... I have to agree there is little to no diffrence between these 2 amps. Whats the price & spec diffrence like $3-500 & 6L6 power tubes?
Do you mind to do a full playthrough of IRT 60 watt? I've been watching almost all youtube playthrough of this, but none has make any detailed playthrough as yours
It's on the list
Is a power amp needed for the laney studio?
Identical, but kind of different on clean channel
So were you using the speaker line out or out the fx loop?
Speaker out. Just because that's how I have it set up now.
@@SonicDriveStudio was just curious because the power tubes have a huge impact
i have the irt 60 it sounds awesome, between the irt60 and a peavey 6505 which one has a tighter distortion? or are they basically identical?
Hmmm hard to say. It depends on the guitar and how you dial them in. Both can get tight but not as tight as other amps such as the Mesa Mark Series or EVH's.
Would you recommend those amps for professional use, touring and studio recording? :)
Killswitch Engage used Ironheart 120 for touring at least
@@teikeh That's right !
But I finally bought a Laboga Mr Hector 😁
@@valentinpau1434 Nice, those seems like they are great amps as well :-) I just bought an Ironheart 120 a few days ago. Love it
Hi Jon, which is your favourite?
Hard to say tbh. Both have their use!
Just ordered the studio SE- same as this but in red basically. The SE is actually a bit cheaper, but I couldn't figure out if their are even any differences between the two. Anybody know anything about it?
Same thing!
Different color, illuminating logo and Improved DI OUT/Speaker Emulation
It all sounds the same to me.
I'm glad someone also says that tbh
Yep to me as well
Great demo!
I can hear the difference using headphone. The bigger one is more full and tight.
6L6 for me.
Also are you in just drop D or ?
Drop C
I really like the features of the irt studio but a that big amp is cool too, and it has 6l6 tubes but i think i don't need 60 watts of power...
Is the sound difference really that small? And Is the bigger amp worth it 130€ more?? I can't decide HELP
You can always mic a cab or go direct out to PA, etc from the back if you need more volume. I have the Studio and it is extremely loud for it's rated 15 watts.
@@leftyfusion88 the problem is i'd like to have less volume, say the internal dummyload would be pretty useful to me
I believe on the front panel it has the power attenuator down to maybe 1 watt-then up to full power,60 watts..I am trying to choose between this or the Blackstar MK ii 100 watt head, also with power reduction..I will probably get the Laney because I had 2 of them way back in the 80's and man they rocked and were reliable.
@@rosskrause3926 Nice! Well eventually i got the irt studio, only have to wait for the 212 cab ^^
Hello great video, I have a question , Do you think the Laney Ironheart studio sounds better than the Peavey 6505mh ?
Thanks! The only answer I can really give you is: they sound different but I love both. Both have different sonic characteristics and features. Check out the demos of the MH on this channel and compare them to this video. Also check out the features. The IRT Studio has more EQ features for example.
Sell me one?
Without looking one has more body to it
Fluff.....the sequel.
Solo'd the EL84's are too fizzy. I just don't like EL84's. They break up to easy.
I don't know. To me the EL84 sound is a bit warmer, not fizzy.
