Brecker was from another planet
I'd like to go to that planet.
i'm glad i got to see him play and meet him before he left us. ditto for allan, whom i met three times...
8:58 "the Brecker 's oops face" lol
Jack DeJohnette really sets these guys on fire...!
I first saw Jack in Chicago with the Charles Lloyd Quartet; he became my favorite from then on; then Miles got him in his group. Only Elvin compares, in my view.
I had the honor of being in Joey Calderazzo's 4tet in the 1990's. We played great gigs in Pittsburgh, NYC, Boston and Larchmont. He's an incredible musician , as are the other 4 here.
@@musopaul5407 thanks. You too.
@Rob Scheps I caught Michael's gig on his "Tales From The Hudson" USA Tour at a small jazz club in Berkeley, California called "Yoshi's." After I paid an honorarium (bribe) to a club employee, I was seated front row center stage at a small table that would only accommodate three people at most. My colleague and I were less than 5-feet from Michael Brecker. During the spectacular gig,, Michael went to grab his microphone and the balanced XLR cable flew off landing on my table. I stood up, putting my hand out to Michael to hand me his microphone and he complied. I snapped the XLR cable back into the mic waiting for the "click" to sound and the "thump" from the PA and handed the reconnected microphone back into Michael's hands. Time Elapsed less than 5-seconds. Michael's comment to the audience was "Wow, we need to take this guy on the road with us." My reply was "I can not play as well as Joey Calderazzo," And, the audience applauded. Michael then replied, "Do you know what A440 is?" I said "Yes." He responded, "See me after the show." Long story short, acoustic instruments "detune" due to a number of environmental factors, especially the double bass, drums, and acoustic guitars. After the show, I met Michael and he asked me if I was available to go on an international tour to tune the acoustic instruments and be a glorified roadie. A high point in my musical life coming face-to-face with these musical legends. I've met Pat Metheny in person and private too on another occasion, Only a musician would geek out on this stuff! Cheers!

@@davidwalker8481 did you go????
Great!
Metheny + Brecker = heaven
agree , they should have done some together
You mean more together?? right ?
@@fidofutte6670 They've done a few tracks together. 80/81 is a great double album of Metheny featuring Brecker -and also with DeJohnette as well.
@@wademonteba It's Dewey Redman on tenor on "80/81," not Brecker.
@@jeffkross1770 They both feature on that album.
Oh that sound!! His sound, his sound, his sound!! In my humble opinion, there is not a saxophone player on the planet, before or now, that sounds like Brecker. So fat and so much power. We lost an absolute Legend.
Man this kills me to tears. These guys are like wonders of the world.
Amazing Michael Brecker. I miss you so...
mike, damn, we miss you! his playing was and is representativ for freedom and true soulfullness,
Man oh man, so moving. And Jack DeJohnette ... he and Dave Holland give it so much ... whew.
Can just tell that piano solo activated Brecker Mode
Yes! It seems like the high energy piano playing set things off.
Mike and Pat together-doesn't get much better than that.
Wow, Breckers solo is outstanding. What a genius he was.
Michael's sound lives! Jack is amazing.
A friend of mine, a drummer who makes a living teaching told me once, DeJohnette's talent it to treat time, the beat, musical feeling, as a piece of elastic. It's being on the beat, being ahead of it, and being behind it. Just feel it, feel the musicians you're playing with. go with it, go against it. We all win.
@@robhickford9169 Unfortunately the recording doesn't do him justice. There is so much going on, so many nuances and great, musical ideas. Got another comment to what you said regarding his time: He's always brave enough to step out there and go for some fresh and risky musical journey!
One of my favorite songs.
every mike brecker's solo was the best solo ever !
Awesome Pat Metheny !!
saw this tour second row. breathtaking. no weak links in this band, all masters, but to watch Jack play is a joy.
He's not draining anything, he's just playing closer to the end of the beat, making it sound more relaxed. The rhythm stays solid and consistent and he floats over it.
what a nice feeling it must be to be on stage with these monsters, that know and have spent time enough with your composition to just shred it to pieces. he deserves it . what a great tune and player.
They are the music they play - no " Fake music " here!
Good Lord. . . Michael is on fire!!!
always on fire
💙🤍❤ Una Pepita , GRACIAS , Pat + Michael and Jack , merci de France ZAZA very cool
Wow. Their energy is incredible.
nice piano work...i love how he built that solo.
RIP Michael, only the good die young.
Damn Brecker was so good it’s insane
Que buena banda, de lujo, supongo fue poco tiempo antes de fallecer el gran Mike Brecker🙏
wow, this groove is not played like this anymore. the rhythms are different now. that's wild.
Amazing performance. It will be regarded for the rest of times 💕
THIS TRACK I FEEL IN MY SOUL ! I MEAN GOOSEBUMPS.
This band it's outstanding
OMG! ... Chills up and down my spine. And Jack DeJohnette ... the master rhythm train ... Thank you for posting this!
Metheny is one of the few guitarist willing to make the guitar note sound like the sax note, esp when they are playing the head together. Brecker is (was) all of monster
This guy has played for absolutely everyone who is good! Love his sax - very urbane.
Great version of an awesome tune!
No me canso de escucharlo, temaso, y vaya quinteto espectacular
man dejohnette's got just the right feel for this
I bet someone threw a challenge like: let's see who comes to the gig with the weirdest shirt. I love weird shirts
Joey's one bad boy. Even to this day, dammit. What a great band.
I am so excited over playing this tune with my jazz quartet on May 10 at Germano's Patini in Baltimore.
Does not get any better than this ! Thanks for the music
It's a guitar synth - the Roland GR-300. Basically, there's a non-typical cable connected from the guitar (which is basically just a controller that sends information about the way you play) to a pedalboard that generates all sorts of different synth sounds. It's pretty fucking epic. Though you won't easily find a GR-300 for any cheap price.
Brecker kills, Metheny's solo is mainly understated but gorgeous, and Calderazzo never disappoints. Check out Calderazzo's duo album with Branford.
WOW!!
5 star band!!!
Breckers solo, oh man!
Chris Steven I know ridiculous especially that overtone thing
I like the sound of Metheny's guitar....
Guauuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Cita de gigantes, con un temazo de Pat.
THIS IS HEAVEN
Damn they are enjoying this so much :)
Monsters of jazz fusión !!!!!
From another world man!!!!!!!!!!!
This is THE jazz song of the last 30 years. Brecker, Metheny, Hancock, DeJohnette, Holland! They murder this shit
What a supergroup!!
The cool in this clip is so massive, it makes my head assplode
Another of my favorite recordings......
I am not from bilbao, but still this Michael and Pat combination is awesome.
Funny, Michael seems to get tied up in a couple spots and then unleashes a holy fury of amazing ideas right after as to just completely melt my brain...great players use their mistakes. Joey sounded great on this and Jack oh, hell yes!!!
Honestly, he doesn't even regard the chord changes for his entire solo. But I'm such a fan that I'd rather hear MB play whatever the heck he wants over this at the cost of ignoring metheny's composision lol Fsaxwas9 BRYAN ALFONSO
He is totally regarding the chord changes he’s just coloring outside the lines, as was his wont.
@@eastweymouthchris yes, he totally is!
John Mac Loughlin y Matheny son los únicos dos guitarristas que son capaces de robarme lágrimas de gozo ❤
I miss Michael! The heavenly Sax man!
Dave Holland! So killin with all types of drummers, I'd love to play a tune with that dude.
Incredible
Everyone is so killing here, wow.
Such great song and sound! We just made a backing track for this amazing tune:)
Lord have mercy !!!!!!!
OOhh yeah man - this must be heaven !
Fantastic! Awesome tune and incredible musicianship!
I love these guys. Super fabulusos.
michael brecker you are missed, what a f'n display of might this is
Check out Pat's 'Vince Guaraldi/Charlie Brown' modulation there in the bridge of "Bilbao." A wonderful homage. You can almost see Woodstock being chased by Snoopy.
Pat usually wears sneakers during concerts. Bless his heart!
Michael always used to wear the best shirts.
If I had Mike's Shirt game and Pat's Hair my life would be complete
+William Kesner Hah...even Pat doesn't have his (real) hair anymore!
You want to have a look at Dave Grusin's garderobe, too
Jack De Johnette has scored a few times in this field as well ;-)
@@pascaldeshayes5459 JdJ is as righful a shirt game master as MB and PM ❤
amazingly good
Cortenla. Extraordinarios músicos para un gran tema de Pat. Gracias por el video.
A master class by classy masters. Thanks for the music, Mike.
His playing is alive, moving, playing with time. Very different voice! The time feel and style is just unique.
killer stuff!!!!
Muito obrigado pela boa música que mi proporcionarão .
COOOOOL !!!!! thanks
Fantastich historik group and music that matters
genios totales
this is genius!!!!
david is smiling at the end, which may of had to do with them coming into the out head one bar early; not sure. a fave tune of mine from the metheny crowd--a fine example of solid head melody playing.
I love the ohh shit look on everyones face after Jacks solo 8:58.
cut the ending out??
does someone have the full recording?
Parker,Trane,Coleman and Michael so special too
Funny thing about Pat-his wrist position is all "wrong" (according to most teachers), but he is one of the best ever.
and the way he holds the pick😮😅
That's why the "teachers" are in their "studios", & Pat's recording & taking the greater stages.
music of the most high...supreme
O so sweet!!!!
Michael come back!
Pat's technique is unique, weird some would say incorrect...but yet he stills sounds heavenly...sorry for mu bad english
outerly riveting while inwardly liberating❓
Michael Brecker!
8:58. Even to the best Mike Brecker can happen to him the late start the melody of the song.
Five Jazz stars together... Michael Brecker-Sax * Pat Metheny-Guitar player * Jack DeJohnette-Drummer * Dave Holland-Drummer and Joey Calderazzo-Pianist - Superb musician.
Dave Holland is the Bass player
trumpet guitar.. awesome
when the music make quiet..the soul......ECCEZIONALE PERFORMANCE........tra i migliori musicisti attualmente in vita......puo' non piacere ...ma cazzo quanto sono bravi....venderei l'anima per suonare come jack
They all get an Kick out of this song for Bilbaobab
@Jour0n he's using alternate fingerings to play the same notes twice in a row. the lick is "GGAABBCCDB" in succession.
Giants.
Do any others of this era compare favourably with Pat Metheny with regards to their worth as composers ? If so, I would be interested in checking out some suggestions .
