As a person with multiple food allergies, I cannot eat regular ice cream, which means I often get brands most people have never heard of. That said, the discontuned ice cream I miss the most is Almond Dreams Bites. These were small, bite-sized ice cream bites (obviously) that had different flavors of ice cream covered by a chocolate coating. It was my childhood ice cream, and it suddenly disappeared from all stores out of nowhere! Turns out, the parent company of the brand Almond/Rice Dream, Hain Celstial, discontiuned ALL of their dairy-free product lines in that company! Like...why?! It's a very popular market! Anyways I'm still mad about it because it was the best ice cream ever to me.
There are a huge number of good nondairy ice cream brands now, based on not only the soy milk or rice milk used in the olden days but on tasty almond, cashew, oat, coconut, sunflower seed milks and probably others as well. Even Breyer’s has some to try. So Delicious is good, also Oatly among others. Kroger’s Simple Truth brand also has good offerings at a less gasp-producing price. Ben & Jerry’s has an ever-increasing nondairy ice cream line which of course is really good but the price has gone out of sight recently. I keep hoping for a serious sale to stock up on Americone Dream and try some others. I never got a chance to try the few Haagen Daz options because they were never on sale and in stock at the same time. Magnum bars were good but way too pricey.
I'm just wondering why they didn't call "Fossil Fuel" something like "Dino Dig" instead. That would have made way more sense, and fit right in with the likes of "Moose Tracks".
Yea honestly it’s a shame that they dropped the flavor all together instead of changing the name. I can admire B&J’s socially conscious business strategy, but I feel like completely removing the flavor was overly reactionary.
I worked at dairy queen for 8 years and in all that time, I think our worst idea on the ice cream end was probably our canada day blizzard. It was pretty much our usual soft serve with a ice cram sandwich shoved into it. It looked really weird and I can't imagine what it tasted like. If I think of any others I'll let you know

I don't know if "worst" really describes most of these, since they seem more like temporary promotions that ran their natural course. Most of these brands are also owned by Unilever too (I was very disappointed when I visited the Ben and Jerry's factory a few years ago. The flavor graveyard was worth a visit though, and yes, I was a Wavy Gravy fan. Like Woodstock, it's one of those "you had to be there, man" things.)

Turkey Hill once had an ice cream flavor called, Movie Night. It was part of their Dynamic Duos line. It was part Vanilla Ice Cream with Caramel Swirl and half Popcorn flavored Ice Cream with Popcorn and Praline mixed throughout. I ad it a couple of times before it was discontinued. The Popcorn flavor was actually really good. Wish they'd bring it back.

Okay funny story. The snickers peanut brownie ice cream bars were available in my stores earlier this year (2022) & I actually loved them. They honestly tasted heavenly to me, so when I saw that they suddenly disappeared from stores I was pretty confused. Watching this knowing that I could’ve developed cancer from eating it too often (i ate it often at the time) is an absolutely terrifying thought.
I very much doubt you would've got anything like cancer from it 🙂🙂 They were extremely trace amounts and it extended to many other ice creams too. The FDA just likes to be extra careful
Bit sad to hear the java chip ice cream got canned, it was actually one of my favourites. But you're probably right that most people don't want to eat ice cream in the morning. It was super sweet and creamy with that lovely java flavour, and I tend to prefer iced coffee so it struck a chord.

I remember strolling down my old grocery store in my hometown (which no longer exists sadly) and I found Simpsons ice cream from Breyers. It was Cookie D’oh! (Cookie dough) It was only sold in Canada (my country) in 2003 or 2005 as far as I can tell. Finding an image of the container online is freaking impossible. It may count as “lost media” then. One of the lost foods I’ve been searching for my entire life. I hope one day I can find a picture of this ice cream and what it’s packaging looked like. Not to taste it though, highly unlikely. I will always remember that trip down to the old local grocery store before it closed.
I had a lot of Simpsons snacks as a kid here in the UK and I have a really hard time finding evidence of those too. I used to have these little mini Homer donut biscuits with this amazing banana flavour and Bart biscuits too but I can’t for the life of me find any pictures. I also used to have Scooby Snacks which were savoury-ish biscuits in the shape of Scooby and they came with a squeezy tube of light creamy cheese filling. The biscuits had holes in Scooby’s eyes so when you put the filling between two biscuits and squeezed it would ooze from his eyes hahaha Again, I can’t find any evidence of their existence
This reminds me of a thing that happened to me when I was growing up. One summer a chocolate and whiskey flavored ice cream cone was released only to be recalled and discontinued a few months later when parents began to question the decision of alcohol flavoring in a product primarily marketed to kids. I managed to buy it a couple of times before the product was recalled and based on what I remember it was quite tasty.

For a while, Cheesecake Factory had an ice cream you could purchase in stores. It was a cream cheese base with real graham cracker crust and sometimes another flavor as well. My favorite was the key lime pie. Now I can't find them anywhere. I guess it was discontinue.
Back in 2005/2006 I used to buy Tiramisu flavoured ice cream from my local supermarket. It was their own brand and delicious!, had a really nice coffee flavour and chunks of spongy tiramisu. When I was home at the weekend from Uni I would stock up on them. They eventually stopped selling it. I emailed the company asking about it and they were awesome and responded, apparently they didn't sell enough to keep it going. Shame it was really nice!
The last time we went to visit my partner's family in South Carolina, there was a brand of ice cream called Proof that they carded you to buy since it was alcohol based. You wouldn't like it if you don't like booze, but it was really good. We let his grandma have a taste, and her face was priceless. I guess she was expecting vanilla since it looked white, but she really liked it, too.
I remember the Mounds Ice Cream ... I loved it. I actually think part of the problem is that it was dark chocolate, which seems to be less popular than milk chocolate.

I don't have an ice cream flavor I can't find anymore, but an entire brand! It was called Galvy and I could find several flavors: nuts and caramel, Oreo, chocolate mint, chocolate, Ferrero Rocher, peanut butter and chocolate, vanilla and caramel, Kinder egg and straciatella. Not only did they taste great, they were creamy, light and came in large containers despite being rather cheap in comparison to bigger brands in the video like Magnum or Ben&Jerry's (probably because Galvy used to be localized in the province's capital city, or at least had a filial there). Edit: Galvy is still very alive, and with a broader selection of ice cream flavors, but for X reason it doesn't appear in my province anymore. There are other local brands that are good, however. I remember having eaten once a pop corn and caramel ice cream that tasted great but didn't last for more than a year probably because of how weird the taste sounded (even if it was actually quite good). However, I can't remember the brand that produced it.
I have made my own ice cream for some time now. I have made a few flops as far as flavors go (most of them were requested by my grandkids). But I have a few flavors that are always well received: vanilla (made with Madagascar vanilla beans), regular chocolate, fudgesicle, orange shurebert (that's how the grandkids call it) and my personal favorite "Extinction by Chocolate" (this goes beyond that whimpy Death by Chocolate the stores sell). Aside from knowing what is in it, there's nothing like watching the kid's faces light up when I bring out "the good stuff" (as they call it). I guess ice cream tastes better when it's made out of love and not for a profit.

I didn't like them much but I remember two weird ice pops from my childhood. One was Lion King themed and was orange with small gummy bugs in it, I liked the design, but many probably thought it looked too gross, I don't think the ice tasted very much either, it was just okay. The other was more of an lemon sorbet I guess in the shape of a bone, I liked the design but it disappeared as fast as it got there, it too was just okay, better than most sorbet to me at least, but just okay.

Wavy Gravy was an amazing ice cream! Having been a teenager when it came out the first time, I can tell you exactly what it tasted like. It was this really rich vanilla with a thick thread of gooey fudge running through it, and just enough of the almonds and cashews in it to give it a little crunch and texture. It was a favorite of mine until it disappeared and when it came back later I was thrilled--only to be unable to find it in stores around me 😭

The opposite of an icecream failure; an icecream success! I went to Gelato Messina Braddon when I went on a trip to Canberra this year. There was a queue going out of the eating area... at about 8 at night. Some volunteer firemen even showed up for some icecream! The flavour I had was "pannacotta with fig jam and amaretto" (which is an almond liquor) and it was _amazing._ The flavours I tried from my sisters were great too! Too bad its a whole state over (like an 8 hour drive lmao), or else I'd want to go there more often. Definitely somewhere to visit if you're ever in Canberra.
I remember Baskin Robbins having a matcha ice cream as one of the flavors of the month. I love matcha flavored everything and their's was okay, except it had tea leaves in it. Just pieces of leaves, which is a very odd choice. You had to either eat the leaf pieces or spit them out with every bite. There's a ton of better matcha ice creams, Haagen Daaz even has one.

My favorite ice cream that I can't find anymore is Ben & Jerry's Blueberry Vanilla Graham Greek Frozen Yogurt. As far as I can tell, they still make it, they just don't sell it anywhere I can shop for it and still get it home frozen, and I won't buy ice cream online, not with delivery companies just dropping packages on the doorstep and leaving. With my luck, I'd finally find it only to have it melted because I didn't know it was delivered until the next day. It was slightly tart with a sort of cheesecake flavor, crumbly bits of graham cracker and a blueberry swirl. I really miss it!
R.I.P Dole Gelato. They sold it in rounded rectangular tubs in the frozen section and it looked like it had been piped in. I loved the refreshing lemon flavor, and the hazelnut flavor that had a Nutella like topping. There was also a vanilla with a caramel topping and I think a plain chocolate? I can't even find information on it now!

Hey! Just a heads up, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are coated in Hershey’s chocolate. Hershey actually provided Reese with the chocolate from the beginning and eventually bought the brand. My thought is that it’s just too much chocolate and not enough peanut-butter, maybe if they made the ice cream a swirl of both chocolate and peanut butter it wouldn’t be so rich.
That was kind of what my issue with it was. Not to mention the chocolate wasn't as sweet as the real chocolate is. Combine that with the fact there wasn't enough peanut butter to remind you it was supposed to taste like Reese's

When I was a teenager in Ancient Times before cable tv and personal computers and cell phones, we had a little ice cream outlet store nearby where they tested new flavors. My favorites were black licorice ice cream and dill pickle ice cream. I wish I could get those again. Dill pickle may sound like an odd flavor for ice cream, but it really did work and was sweet. I was told it was especially popular among pregnant women... But non-pregnant me loved it, too.

Most of these brands are also owned by Unilever too (I was very disappointed when I visited the Ben and Jerry's factory a few years ago. The flavor graveyard was worth a visit though, and yes, I was a Wavy Gravy fan. Like Woodstock, it's one of those "you had to be there, man" things.)
One ice cream I used to be obsessed with was Ben and Jerry's "Late Night Snack". It was inspired by "The Late Night Show", and it was vanilla ice cream with caramel syrup and pieces of chocolate-covered potato chips mixed in. I've not been able to find it for a long time, and I remain forever upset
That's pretty much Stephen Colbert's Americone dream only it's waffle cones instead of potato chips. I've made it a requirement to have on standby on election nights when I need a pick me up.

Turkey Hill once had an ice cream flavor called, Movie Night. It was part of their Dynamic Duos line. It was part Vanilla Ice Cream with Caramel Swirl and half Popcorn flavored Ice Cream with Popcorn and Praline mixed throughout. I ad it a couple of times before it was discontinued. The Popcorn flavor was actually really good. Wish they'd bring it back.

Okay funny story. The snickers peanut brownie ice cream bars were available in my stores earlier this year (2022) & I actually loved them. They honestly tasted heavenly to me, so when I saw that they suddenly disappeared from stores I was pretty confused. Watching this knowing that I could’ve developed cancer from eating it too often (i ate it often at the time) is an absolutely terrifying thought.
I very much doubt you would've got anything like cancer from it 🙂🙂 They were extremely trace amounts and it extended to many other ice creams too. The FDA just likes to be extra careful

Bit sad to hear the java chip ice cream got canned, it was actually one of my favourites. But you're probably right that most people don't want to eat ice cream in the morning. It was super sweet and creamy with that lovely java flavour, and I tend to prefer iced coffee so it struck a chord.

Ben and Jerry’s Crème Brûlée ice cream was one of the best ice creams ever, and it was also discontinued. What the hell are these companies doing??!!
They had a delicious John Lennon inspired flavor back in '09 called "Imagine Whirled Peace" and it had toffee cookie bits in it... I miss it so much
I remember strolling down my old grocery store in my hometown (which no longer exists sadly) and I found Simpsons ice cream from Breyers. It was Cookie D’oh! (Cookie dough) It was only sold in Canada (my country) in 2003 or 2005 as far as I can tell. Finding an image of the container online is freaking impossible. It may count as “lost media” then. One of the lost foods I’ve been searching for my entire life. I hope one day I can find a picture of this ice cream and what it’s packaging looked like. Not to taste it though, highly unlikely. I will always remember that trip down to the old local grocery store before it closed.
I had a lot of Simpsons snacks as a kid here in the UK and I have a really hard time finding evidence of those too. I used to have these little mini Homer donut biscuits with this amazing banana flavour and Bart biscuits too but I can’t for the life of me find any pictures. I also used to have Scooby Snacks which were savoury-ish biscuits in the shape of Scooby and they came with a squeezy tube of light creamy cheese filling. The biscuits had holes in Scooby’s eyes so when you put the filling between two biscuits and squeezed it would ooze from his eyes hahaha

This reminds me of a thing that happened to me when I was growing up. One summer a chocolate and whiskey flavored ice cream cone was released only to be recalled and discontinued a few months later when parents began to question the decision of alcohol flavoring in a product primarily marketed to kids.
I managed to buy it a couple of times before the product was recalled and based on what I remember it was quite tasty.
I don't understand why parents some parents feel the need to justify something that is for everyone as only for kids.... That ice cream sounds amazing. Have someone open an ice cream store of ice cream just infused with different alcohols that would be hella cool.
When did it come out. I recall back in the 80's as a teen, Lipton had a rum flavored tea. I loved it iced. It tasted like a tropical drink.

Way back when the Shrek craze had Germany in it's clutches, Langnese released an " Shrek Icecream" wich had a slimy consitance. It was hella sweet but also weird for not feeling frozen. The taste was basic bubblegum flavor. The colour was ogre green/ earwax candle green.

For a while, Cheesecake Factory had an ice cream you could purchase in stores. It was a cream cheese base with real graham cracker crust and sometimes another flavor as well. My favorite was the key lime pie. Now I can't find them anywhere. I guess it was discontinue.
Last year I actually went to the cheesecake factory for the first time in Huntsville, it was awesome!
Back in 2005/2006 I used to buy Tiramisu flavoured ice cream from my local supermarket. It was their own brand and delicious!, had a really nice coffee flavour and chunks of spongy tiramisu. When I was home at the weekend from Uni I would stock up on them. They eventually stopped selling it. I emailed the company asking about it and they were awesome and responded, apparently they didn't sell enough to keep it going. Shame it was really nice!
At least in the United States Ben and jerry's has a tiramisu ice cream, Or they did the last time I checked
The last time we went to visit my partner's family in South Carolina, there was a brand of ice cream called Proof that they carded you to buy since it was alcohol based. You wouldn't like it if you don't like booze, but it was really good. We let his grandma have a taste, and her face was priceless. I guess she was expecting vanilla since it looked white, but she really liked it, too.
I remember the Mounds Ice Cream ... I loved it. I actually think part of the problem is that it was dark chocolate, which seems to be less popular than milk chocolate.

We actually made a beer flavored ice cream where I worked for an event in Hartford. I don't like beer, but couldn't get enough of the ice cream we made. Kind of want us to bring it back, honestly.

I don't have an ice cream flavor I can't find anymore, but an entire brand! It was called Galvy and I could find several flavors: nuts and caramel, Oreo, chocolate mint, chocolate, Ferrero Rocher, peanut butter and chocolate, vanilla and caramel, Kinder egg and straciatella. Not only did they taste great, they were creamy, light and came in large containers despite being rather cheap in comparison to bigger brands in the video like Magnum or Ben&Jerry's (probably because Galvy used to be localized in the province's capital city, or at least had a filial there). Edit: Galvy is still very alive, and with a broader selection of ice cream flavors, but for X reason it doesn't appear in my province anymore.
There are other local brands that are good, however. I remember having eaten once a pop corn and caramel ice cream that tasted great but didn't last for more than a year probably because of how weird the taste sounded (even if it was actually quite good). However, I can't remember the brand that produced it.
I have made my own ice cream for some time now. I have made a few flops as far as flavors go (most of them were requested by my grandkids). But I have a few flavors that are always well received: vanilla (made with Madagascar vanilla beans), regular chocolate, fudgesicle, orange shurebert (that's how the grandkids call it) and my personal favorite "Extinction by Chocolate" (this goes beyond that whimpy Death by Chocolate the stores sell).
Aside from knowing what is in it, there's nothing like watching the kid's faces light up when I bring out "the good stuff" (as they call it).
I guess ice cream tastes better when it's made out of love and not for a profit.

I didn't like them much but I remember two weird ice pops from my childhood. One was Lion King themed and was orange with small gummy bugs in it, I liked the design, but many probably thought it looked too gross, I don't think the ice tasted very much either, it was just okay. The other was more of an lemon sorbet I guess in the shape of a bone, I liked the design but it disappeared as fast as it got there, it too was just okay, better than most sorbet to me at least, but just okay.
I still miss MicroPops to this day. I'd give anything to have them back.

Wavy Gravy was an amazing ice cream! Having been a teenager when it came out the first time, I can tell you exactly what it tasted like. It was this really rich vanilla with a thick thread of gooey fudge running through it, and just enough of the almonds and cashews in it to give it a little crunch and texture. It was a favorite of mine until it disappeared and when it came back later I was thrilled--only to be unable to find it in stores around me 😭

I went to Gelato Messina Braddon when I went on a trip to Canberra this year. There was a queue going out of the eating area... at about 8 at night. Some volunteer firemen even showed up for some icecream! The flavour I had was "pannacotta with fig jam and amaretto" (which is an almond liquor) and it was _amazing._ The flavours I tried from my sisters were great too! Too bad its a whole state over (like an 8 hour drive lmao), or else I'd want to go there more often. Definitely somewhere to visit if you're ever in Canberra.

I remember Baskin Robbins having a matcha ice cream as one of the flavors of the month. I love matcha flavored everything and their's was okay, except it had tea leaves in it. Just pieces of leaves, which is a very odd choice. You had to either eat the leaf pieces or spit them out with every bite. There's a ton of better matcha ice creams, Haagen Daaz even has one.

My favorite ice cream that I can't find anymore is Ben & Jerry's Blueberry Vanilla Graham Greek Frozen Yogurt. As far as I can tell, they still make it, they just don't sell it anywhere I can shop for it and still get it home frozen, and I won't buy ice cream online, not with delivery companies just dropping packages on the doorstep and leaving. With my luck, I'd finally find it only to have it melted because I didn't know it was delivered until the next day. It was slightly tart with a sort of cheesecake flavor, crumbly bits of graham cracker and a blueberry swirl. I really miss it!

R.I.P Dole Gelato. They sold it in rounded rectangular tubs in the frozen section and it looked like it had been piped in. I loved the refreshing lemon flavor, and the hazelnut flavor that had a Nutella like topping. There was also a vanilla with a caramel topping and I think a plain chocolate? I can't even find information on it now!

Hey! Just a heads up, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are coated in Hershey’s chocolate. Hershey actually provided Reese with the chocolate from the beginning and eventually bought the brand.
My thought is that it’s just too much chocolate and not enough peanut-butter, maybe if they made the ice cream a swirl of both chocolate and peanut butter it wouldn’t be so rich.
Reese's is my favorite candy it is delicious the peanut butter chocolate flavor is delicious but my favorite dessert is a milkshake.
That was kind of what my issue with it was. Not to mention the chocolate wasn't as sweet as the real chocolate is. Combine that with the fact there wasn't enough peanut butter to remind you it was supposed to taste like Reese's

When I was a teenager in Ancient Times before cable tv and personal computers and cell phones, we had a little ice cream outlet store nearby where they tested new flavors. My favorites were black licorice ice cream and dill pickle ice cream. I wish I could get those again.
Dill pickle may sound like an odd flavor for ice cream, but it really did work and was sweet. I was told it was especially popular among pregnant women... But non-pregnant me loved it, too.
