While obviously the best hard rock band on the planet today is comprised of five women from Japan l do not look at them as a Japanese rock band. I consider Band-Maid as the world's rock band and it just so happens they come from Japan. They are the best at what they do. And so many songs to choose from all well done. They simply do not write or perform any bad music. They all relate to their audience on a personal level anywhere they play around the world and wherever people hear them they are loved. Thanks for helping to support them. Sakuramento wa Bando Meido ga daisuki!

Haha...funny! I wonder if there is a better hard rock band in the world today. They are top musicians and very technical. And the guitarrist, Kanami, creates so good structured songs. On top of that, its amazing charachters! The fans are obsessed with them, just like myself. You have much to check out. They made many, many songs already.
They might be the best girl band, but there are plenty of skilled ones in Japan.
If you want to see some real, old school metal, also check Lovebites. Five high octane girls. Full throttle in almost every song.
Shawowmaker is pure powermetal, Break the wall is pure thrash (there is a fantastic live clip from DVD, on UA-cam). And they make classic Maiden metal too.
Those two bands are almost all I played for a long, long time. ;)

How Band-Maid works; Kanami (lead guitar) composes the music, sending it (via internet) to MISA (bass) and Akane (drums) to input the rhythm/beat. Miku (band founder, vocals, rhythm guitar, spokes-pigeon) writes the lyrics. Then they go into the studio to finalize the song. Saiki (vocals) is the one to say that they are finished with the song. She is also beginning to contribute to the lyrics.
Recap they write, arrange and produce their on songs. They are talented, highly skilled, and a superb live band.
Remember, no matter how good you think you play a musical instrument, there is a Japanese lady who plays it better than you! (stolen)

its ok Kelly? I think thats your name?, we all get excited sometimes, and flub our words, its endearing.
And glad both of you found Bandmaid. one of the best rock bands, female or male on the planet these days.
Loved the look on your faces when Kanami broke out into one of her famous solos. we all did that the first time we seen one of her solos,. the look of surprise and astonishment.
Now you'll get alot of fans tellin you how much they love Bandmaid, and they'll rattle on about their love for them, Myself..., sure I love them, sure I'd put all their instruments, "drums included", on my back and haul them to their next concert, but I wouldnt call it love as much as respect and obsession , jk
Great reaction, do more Bandmaid and we'll all follow along with you. peace out...

Welcome aboard, Kelly and Irav (TC?). You are embarking on (along with many others) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with new album, “Conqueror”), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular.
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their later songs drive even more - Rin’ne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series! And many are represented with over 25 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” ua-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/v-deo.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: ua-cam.com/video/__1th7ctgMo/v-deo.html, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: ua-cam.com/video/4uIYBkAybCI/v-deo.html, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: ua-cam.com/video/usWZvlGGDSs/v-deo.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009
Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.).
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience.
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 28 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

    Some background:
Band-Maid is building a strong worldwide fan base, and that is largely people telling their friends about them. There is no giant corporation pushing them. Yet when their most recent album dropped in December, within 48 hours it was #11 rock album in international sales, both hard copy CD albums and digital album downloads, and ALSO #10 in album downloads on iTunes worldwide. Because as soon as you hear them, most people want more.
Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin is a fan, asked to meet drummer Akane after a concert in Tokyo 4 years ago, a picture was taken, and he compared her energy to his late bandmate John Bonham.
There are many, many rock and metal bands in Japan now, and probably half are all female. Female rock and metal scene has its own annual festival for several years now.
Japan's educational system requires proficiency on at least one musical instrument to graduate high school, and their society's expectations of personal and family honor mean doing your best and constantly improving.
And many Japanese love western-influenced rock and metal. There are probably more underground rock and metal clubs per square mile in Tokyo than anywhere else on the planet now.
Band-Maid grew in this amazing musical atmosphere and is a shining example of the hard rock in Japan. They found each other on their own; they were not artificially assembled by some big corporate studio. All had done professional level work before. Miku, the main lyricist, had worked in a "maid cafe" and thought it would be a cool theme for a rock band. She invited Kanami, who had been doing online guitar instruction videos, among other things. Kanami knew and had worked with a great drummer, Akane. Akane had a friend from music school who had been playing guitar and was getting really good on bass guitar, Misa. They decided Miku's voice wasn't strong enough for the power of the music they wanted to do, interviewed singers and chose Saiki. So, they are all with each other by choice and are all good friends now, and it shows in their tight performances and sheer joy they create.
I've always been into lyrics, and it's awkward try to use machine translations and get the gist of the meaning, but that hasn't stopped me from being blown away by the quality and power of their music. I haven't found a song of theirs I dislike yet, and that is a rare accomplishment.
    Pronunciation:
    Miku. MEE-koo
    Kanami. Kah-NAH-mee
    Akane. Ah-KAH-neh
    Misa. MEE-sah
    Saiki. SAY-kee
BTW, some Misa fans would contend that her name is properly pronounced "MEEESAAAAAAAHHHHHH!" - just so you know.
    :)

They soon become (for me and others) a wonderful obsession.
You can catch a current glimpse of Band-Maid and the individual members on social media including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I haven't gotten on Instagram yet, but I know FB and Twitter have tiny blue lines of print when you click in a post that say Translate so you can see it in your language. I'm not sure how to get to Spanish, but I can click on it and get English, and that translation works pretty well usually.
