Been saddle hunting over 30 years and tried it all and the back brace is money!! I also put a podium foot platform on the tree as a seat with me facing the tree straddling it. The platform folds up against the tree whenever you want to stand up. I get to my stand an hour before daylight so I actually take a nap before daylight using the seat and back band. The podium has rounded corners unlike most foot platforms. I have 28 ladder stands on 5 farms in Nebraska, I use the seat part of the ladder stand as my foot platform and screw in 2 tree steps to be able to hunt 360. Just a little advice from an old (68) pro. Love your videos and a big FAN 🏹🏕️🏔️
your my idol ive never wanted to better myself so bad , never wanted to get out in the bush and hunt so bad , never wanted to learn and tinker so bad ! thank you dan the man ! ABT!
Dan get into one sticking. Get you an EWO Ultimate one stick with 40’ of canton elite 9mm rope and a madrock. Knowing you, you would like one sticking and excel at it. All your climbing gear would weigh in under 2lbs. Can’t beat it
@ I know it was addressed in the video, but I would suggest at least giving the 1 stick method a try. I’m on year 2 of it and really like only having 1 stick. You do sacrifice a bit on platform size, but to me its worth it. I’ve comfortably sat 6+ hours. With the smaller platform it is harder to get around for the weakside shot though.
Love this guys advice he has a lot of knowledge. I will have to say Amstel aiders are great three steps of Amstel added to one stick means 2 sticks can go farther then 4 sticks alone. It’s well worth it. I prefer One stick I can go 20+ in 3 moves it’s awesome. But I Mainly hunt ten feet tho
You should look into the amsteel rope to replace the straps. I run 4 of the 20 inch helium sticks with amsteel straps with amsteel aiders. The aimsteel guy makes great stuff
Been hunting Elk for over 27 years. Not many NW hunters hunt elk with a saddle. I don't know why or "why not" but man is it a very good way for those of us "public land hunters" who like to get into the backcountry a little deeper than most, even if it's just a few miles in....... A 12lb Saddle setup is nothing to hike in with. It's a game changer for me. I have certainly hunted from a tree stands many times but setting them and trying to carry one into "the deep" is a pain in the @#$ and very difficult to "Run and Gun" or change trees on the fly! Get yourself several platforms and a good set of lightweight sticks and you will never look back. Bigger for a platform is not always better..... My suggestion is the EDP platform (my personal favorite and Ive tried several and do have different platforms). Something about the EDP, the way it's cut, angles and engineering is top notch. Whoever the engineer is at Trophyline is no doubt a saddle hunter and has spent many hours in a saddle on a platform. The EDP is a work of art. Once you use one and have used something else you will know what I mean. Love the channel.
Thanks for the comment! Great information! We will be doing more saddle content soon! We are looking at saddle hunting for all the reasons you mentioned 👊
I would highly recommend the Timber Ninja carbon sticks. Those Hawk Helium sticks failed on me in Oklahoma when the tempers were in the 30's. Those versa buttons harden up in the cold, and you have to practically "deadlift" the sticks apart from one another, which breaks the plastic/ rubber versa button. Carbon sticks are expensive but so worth it.
Dan for someone who normally rocks the newest archery gear your saddle gear choices are pretty dated. The Mobile Snyper one-stick from TreeTop hunting will not only reduce the weight you are carrying but give you a bigger platform. Pair that with the Halfline system from NewYorksaddlehunter and you can get in and out of almost any tree in the woods quickly and safely! As far as saddles the AeroHunter saddles are built to last and have a proven pedigree in the climbing and hunting community. Casey Jones is planning on making these saddles again! Carrying a bunch of sticks is not a necessity when you have great rope and one-stick options available to climb and hunt with! Welcome to the world of saddle hunting!👍
I had those sticks and went to latitude carbon ss. I would highly recommend them. They are easier to transport and stack way better. Thanks for the content.
I have both the Heliums (2 sets) and a set of the Latitude Carbon sticks. The heliums work for sure but as many have said, they're not lightweight or quiet. I tend to use those in semi-permanent stand locations and if I'm worried about them getting stolen, I'll remove the bottom stick and hike in with it. The carbon sticks are amazing, very quiet once you put the silencing tape on them, and are soooo easy to attach to the tree, compared to sticks with versa buttons. Before next season, I'm going to modify my Heliums and replace the versa button with something similar to what the Tethrd and Latitude sticks use for attachment.
I have the same sticks but I replaced the nipple with a cam cleat and a rope for attachment to the tree - 30 dollar modification and makes climbing so much easier and sturdier
I started with the hawk sticks to save money. They are very heavy compared to the tethrd sticks or on a budg t the XOP sticks are amazing and add an aider step if you want more height.
Ive been very successful saddle hunting elk here in the NW. Yes I do get some really strange looks from hunters who happen upon me (total anomaly). You are correct, nobody saddle hunts elk, at least where I hunt elk on public land here in Washington. Personally I look at it like "I have a massive advantage on public land over my peers". It does require some different strategies for sure but once you figure out what those strategies are it's a game changer specially when your looking to get in a little deeper than everyone and have that massive advantage of being elevated like hunting a tree stand. It's crazy because none of this is new. It's just new here in the northwest as well as new for use for "Elk Hunting". It just hasn't taken off for whatever reason? Whitetail hunters have been doing this stuff for decades in the midwest and saddle hunting is a massive industry with in the Hunting industry.
My daisy chains just came in to replace those straps! Those straps are like jingle bells on Christmas night and a sleigh full of presents! Daisy chains are night and day difference in weight and efficiency. Can’t wait!
I bought the Latitude chains and they're life-changing. No more clanking, and provided you thread the end through one of the loops, your sticks are rock solid: ua-cam.com/video/IB8pBs3h8mg/v-deo.html
Dan, do yourself a favor and reach out to lone wolf customer gear. You hunt hard, hunt with the best sticks and platforms out there. Keep up the awesome content.
I don’t think I could hunt out of a tree stand. If I stay in one spot for too long without walking, my back and knees get uncomfortable 😂. I gotta stay moving. So shoutout too all the tree stand hunters. I give yall props
Hawk sticks almost got me seriously hurt this year. I was saddle hunting public land and had one of my sticks go sideways. Fell 15ft and landed on my shoulder.
@ did u struggle with lefts and right? Comfort? Draw length? I’ve been tinkering with the tapered grip a little myself. Usually always end up back on the riser. I don’t struggle with accuracy differences or anything idk why I always end up back there.
@ ahhh I was merely going off your title as I thought u said the RS was the deer bow. Hey I might not be paying attention but atleast I’m watching champ! Lol
I’m not sure how far you walk in to hunt but you may want to ditch the heavy sticks and go with some lighter options out there and use aiders. My setup is 10lbs and I can get to 22 feet.

Great info! Thanks for sharing!
Can you drop a link of the tree seat you use? I was considering running a hang on with my saddle but may be easier to run this
@ out on a limb is the company. Podium platform is the item
This is the first time I've ever heard someone call the hawk sticks light, lol.
😂🤣
Yea some of the heaviest options available
Lattitude carbon ss sticks! I went from a whole hawk helium kit to everything lattitude and it’s night and day!
@TheHuntingTrout
I went from Hawks to the Latitude sticks, but with a gen 1 Tethrd predator platform. Been eyeing the profile really hard
your my idol ive never wanted to better myself so bad , never wanted to get out in the bush and hunt so bad , never wanted to learn and tinker so bad ! thank you dan the man ! ABT!
Rock on!
Tethrd skeletors will smoke those hawk sticks, been eyeballing that new latitude slim platform
Good to know!
Thanks for sharing Dan. Good stuff!
Any time!

This is awesome seeing Dan go over saddle hunting gear. All the big companies will be sending him stuff to try out soon.
I am hoping we can bring you more of this kind of stuff soon!

This is true and the team at Latitude are awesome! Good people for sure

We just started saddle hunting, so it was cool to see your gear set up. We use Wildedge.
Nice!
I started with the hawk sticks to save money. They are very heavy compared to the tethrd sticks or on a budg t the XOP sticks are amazing and add an aider step if you want more height.
I use the XOP sticks also with a 2 step aider and love them.
nice!
Saddle hunting is the way to go and more comfortable than a treestand IMO. If you get tired of standing sit down. Great video.
👊
I would love to see a video of you elk hunting out of this. I haven’t seen anyone elk hunt out of a saddle yet!

@ you’ll like it! Bought mine off of Etsy from Timesaverropes
I bought the Latitude chains and they're life-changing. No more clanking, and provided you thread the end through one of the loops, your sticks are rock solid: ua-cam.com/video/IB8pBs3h8mg/v-deo.html
Use an aider from Backwoods. Less sticks. I use the 2 step.
Nice!
Dan, do yourself a favor and reach out to lone wolf customer gear. You hunt hard, hunt with the best sticks and platforms out there. Keep up the awesome content.
Working on it!
We gotta get you some better sticks Dan, love ya and those things are a death trap. And heavyy
We will be looking into some more different options next year.
Dan how high do you usually hunt in the tree?
I love my tetherd
👊
I don’t think I could hunt out of a tree stand. If I stay in one spot for too long without walking, my back and knees get uncomfortable 😂. I gotta stay moving. So shoutout too all the tree stand hunters. I give yall props
💯👊
Hawk sticks almost got me seriously hurt this year. I was saddle hunting public land and had one of my sticks go sideways. Fell 15ft and landed on my shoulder.
That's not good!
Quickly made it back to those side plates I see lol
😊
@ did u struggle with lefts and right? Comfort? Draw length? I’ve been tinkering with the tapered grip a little myself.
Usually always end up back on the riser. I don’t struggle with accuracy differences or anything idk why I always end up back there.
Your observation is that of my LIFT X… the LIFT RS has the Bond Contour grip on it. I like it. It’s staying on. 👍
@ ahhh I was merely going off your title as I thought u said the RS was the deer bow. Hey I might not be paying attention but atleast I’m watching champ! Lol

I have those sticks for 3 years. They are not light. Probably light on pockets.
Latitude saw this and said they were NOT going to let their boy use Hawk any longer lol
💯👊
He's got to be trying to get free sticks. Ain't nobody carrying 5- 3 step hawk heliums
That's what we do on this cannel...test improve test again!
Hawk tuah 😂😂
😂
Before I watch I'm calling Shetland Pony
I give it 1 hunt and you’ll have ditched those huge hawk sticks and be partnered with Out on a Limb Mfg….😉
Learn to climb with rope and ditch the loud metal stick. Lighter and i can get into way more trees than with sticks
Working on it 😊
