    That's a brilliant idea! It'll totally be worth it in the long run. Also, I bet you could dremel a little notch at the bottom of the door for hose to feed through and allow you to close the door. Thanks for the video! Super awesome idea!

      @@kstorrer I have it working for the most part. Due to the 700 to 800 psi that is in a 20 LB tank I have had to purchase a regulator on Amazon and find one that holds over 120 psi well. Finding a gauge high enough has not been easy. I lost one gauge that just went bad and still using another that claims 220psi.
      I have had to make connectors because the gauges are only tube connections only. Have a section of tube that completes this and went to Home Depot to buy a few connectors that would go from a hose connector and to different sizes till I had the same size connector that fits into the adaptor into the Ninja Thirsti. This ran me over 3 weeks with a lot of trial and error. I guess I could just run it direct line since when I look it up a 5LB tank has a good 800PSI in it as well. I blew a gasket on 1st adapter removing the pressure too quickly.
      I had things working pretty okay for a while. I honestly have no idea why your 5LB tank of CO2 works, but my 20LB CO2 tank didn't pan out so well. It had far too much pressure and the liquid would come out and make a huge mess. I been keeping my psi around 80 to 90psi and it's been working good till I found out I had a small leak somewhere and I ran out of Co2 in about 5 weeks from 700psi.
      Overall it hasn't been the best experience. When things are working good everything is fine, but all the headaches and trying to talk to 2 different brew stores which do not understand using anything over 40psi isn't very helpful. They make beer and carbonated water, but their system takes a couple days for it to work good. I don't know how coke companies do it and why making a system with a gauge in the middle has been so difficult.

      @BlueDroneBlues I'm sorry you're having so many problems! Have you thought of using the 20 lb canister to fill the empty small canisters that come with the Thirsti? I made a video on it
      ua-cam.com/video/gaLdb5nwbNA/v-deo.htmlsi=XInePJ1qioiN2JGa
      It's definitely more work than just connecting the large canister to the Thirsti, but maybe an option? Maybe not what you want though! I hope you get everything working! I know it must be frustrating at this point! I have been really lucky everything has gone smoothly for me and I'm not a technical person at all! Best of luck to you!

    I just recently bought my Thirsty, and I love all your tips. I Googled CO2 near me, and a brewery supply place (within walking distance :) refills tanks. (One fellow commented that he has a larger tank that he refills, then takes it home to refill the smaller canisters that fit inside… not sure how complicated that is, but it would solve the aesthetic issue ;)

      You need a different type of tank to refill other tanks. The CO2 is a liquid inside the tank and the pressure stays roughly the same internally until it is nearly empty and all the liquid CO2 is gone. So you need to transfer from a tank that has a dip tube to draw from the bottom of the tank rather than from the top.

    This maybe coming from someone that does welding occasionally, but it might not be a bad idea to buy gauge that attaches to your tank and you can see exactly how much you have and you can adjust the pressure to your liking and you will also know when your tank is about to go empty just by looking at the gauge. If you know your about close to empty you will have more time to do a trip when its convenient to fill up the tank again.
    I am looking into these machines and plan to do the same sort of thing and hide the Co2 tank behind some stuff to keep it out of sight. This is a huge plus on how to do it the right way and boy this is going to pay off real quick! Those little canisters are pretty pricy. I guess you could always get an adapter and take a couple of them with you and have the gas company fills those back up for you too. Seem like nice little canisters if you wanted to just build up 2 or 3 of them and than just take them to the gas company and get them refilled and save a bunch of money without having a line sticking out of your machine all the time.
    Enjoyed your video.

      Thanks for this information! I am still on my first 5 lb CO2 tank so it hasn’t ran out yet. I believe my local AirGas only exchanges canisters (does not refill). It's way better than exchanging the small canisters at Target like I was doing previously! Thanks so much for watching! 😃

    • @dbattleaxe
      @dbattleaxe 3 місяці тому +1

      You need to weigh the CO2 tank to know how full it is, unless it's very near empty. As long as there's liquid CO2 in there, it'll stay at a roughly constant pressure. If you're just looking for when it's actually nearly empty, though, the tank PSI drop happens when there's still a decent amount left, at least. I think I did four or five 5 gallon kegs of water out of my 20lb tank after the tank gauge started to drop from its normal 800psi.

    In Canada, a third party entered the market that takes ANY soda-stream compatible tanks in exchange for their "purple label" tank (indigo is the brand). Instead of $20 CAD exchange rate for sodastream or ninja, the price is $12.50 CAD. A bit of a savings. In the past, there were third party shops that would refill your tanks for $10 CAD (but you either had to wait or return later for them refilled). The Indigo brand basically killed all the third party shops (the ones I had used in the past no longer both due to difficulty competing with the $12.50 price).

    Hi great video! I use a 25 pound CO2 cylinder and a Soda Stream Terra. The one thing I do to not waste the CO2 when unhooking the line from the Terra or cylinder is I turn off the bottle when I have partially carbonated my last soda, and then finish (empty the line) with a couple more pushes on the CO2 button of the Terra. This empties the hose so there is no CO2 hiss when unhooking things, since the CO2 in the hose just finished carbonating my last soda bottle. I then push my Soda Stream Terra to the back of my counter and my CO2 bottle and hose, is stored in a lower kitchen cabinet below where I was making the sodas.
    Maybe not a good solution for the Ninja though as you are filling on demand to drink right away.?
    It is great so save so much on CO2! My 25 pounds costs 45 dollars.

    Thanks for this frugal tip! I’m ready to click your amazon link but am undecided with the co2 canister size.

      I haven't used all of my 5 lb one yet, so I'm not sure how long it will last? A larger canister will be larger in size so you would just need to make sure it would fit wherever you plan to keep it. Also, you might check with where you plan to exchange your canister and make sure they exchange the size you are planning on buying. I hope that helps a bit with your decision! I'm really happy with mine! Thanks so much for watching! 😃

    Is there any difference in the CO2 you get from a place like AirGas Welding Supply? ie is there a 'food grade' CO2 vs welding gas? Do we know if the canisters bought off of Amazon are clean inside? I've seen a few that were marketed for Kegs/Beer Making. Sorry for all of the questions but I would love to install one of these on my Thirsti.

    • @jasoa

      Replying to my own question. After searching and reading a bit from homebrew beer makers, there is a beverage grade CO2 and welding grade. Some of the info has said that AirGas carries the beverage grade CO2. So I guess I'll make sure to ask whenever I get a tank refilled.

    • @kstorrer
      @kstorrer  6 місяців тому +6

      The CO2 I got from AirGas is food grade. It is marked Food Grade on the canister. I know people refill at paint ball places and I don't believe those canisters are considered Food grade? I am new to this! The canister I bought on Amazon (See link in description) was brand new and very clean. You will have to trade in your shiny new canister at AirGas and they will exchange it for a used one that has been refilled. But it will have been cleaned and marked Food Grade. I hope that helps!
