Viscount 701 Crash - 1957 | Movietone Moment | 13 March 20

On this day in 1957 A BEA Viscount 701 crashed on the edge of Manchester Ringway airport, close to a housing estate killing 22 passengers. Here is a British Movietone report from the 25th Anniversary commemorating the years of sterling service the aircraft had given all over the world
25 years ago when the Viscount made its first scheduled flight from London's Northolt to Paris, it was a revolutionary turbo-prop plane. A special flight commemorates the years of sterling service the aircraft has given all over the world, and amongst the passengers was Sir Frank Whittle.

George Edwards - unrecognised one of the greats of british aviation. frank whittle too, though more recognised, his treatment by the establishment after WW2 was a disgrace.
