Wow! That is some amazing horsemanship and stunt work! Dangerous, too! I wonder if Ben Johnson did his own stuntwork in that scene. Pretty amazing, whomever it was.
Ben Johnson was a real cowboy the actor who portrayed the Top Hand. Notice how he holds the reigns on his horse, and straddles perfectly. When he ropes the stallion in the end was pure cowboy heaven. They didn't use a stuntman in that scene that was Ben Johnson himself. Love it! Dang look how he handles that rope .
It's incredible that David Rose wrote this specifically for this episode, and later developed it for Little House. It's interesting to see Michael Landon and this music together in this way!
So basically, this was a land-based form of 'catch and release' in the horse wrangling era, set to the pre-series version of the 'Little House on the Prairie' theme. Would I be right in saying that?
I love the series of Bonanza thank you for cheering them ❤️

Yeah, Ben Johnson did all his own stunts in everything he ever did. He was a real cowboy, won the NFR several times I believe.
Bye far the best Bonanza episode ever made.

Yep. He stands in the stirrups. Talent. A special breed.
Oh, you like that? Take a look at some Mr. Johnson's work in the John Ford movies. He was VERY impressive!
True ben johnson did all his stunts by himself he and john wayne were terrific horse riders my favorite i enjoy these two actors damn best
True he was a True cowboy and horseman one of the best horsemen all in his earlier movies he did his own stunts on the horses.
Most of this series was done without stuntmen. Read up on it!
Excellent you don't see this type of horsemanship in movies today..Ole ben was the real deal..
Fabulous music ,fabulous show
I love this! I knew david rose used music in bonanza that would become part of other shows. so this is really neat.
i'm sure my dad would have LOVED this scene. i don't remember seeing this on reruns.
The best and most realistic Bonanza episode in the whole series
Outra que nos faz passar pelos belos tempos antigos e fazemos de conta que não choramos só para disfarçar.Mais uma vez adoro.
