    I stayed up late watching these Bristol races every year as a kid-with my little 10” tv just above mute and a towel rolled up at the bottom of the door so my parents wouldn’t know I was watching tv. Truly my golden years as a NASCAR fan.

    I was there that night. Dale drove a Hell of a race that night but it was an unreal scene after the race. Nobody left their seats for like 10-15 minutes after the race was over. We were stunned. Dale literally stated his intentions....By overdriving, he essentially ruined any potential momentum that would have helped him come out of the corner. Had he not intended to hit Terry, he could have made a run down the straight. The problem, on old tires, he knew the only way to slow him down was to get him to wiggle. Had Terry “came down,” like you said, his car would have spun much differently. He would have taken Dale out as well, had he came down. Either by sending Dales front end towards the wall, or straight up pushing Terry, due to his car being directly in front of Dales.

      With fresh Tires, Terry new he didn’t have to over drive the car. Earnhardt did overdrive however, intentionally, to get a shot at Terry’s rear. New tires or old, it doesn’t matter, you go into the turn aiming for a guys bumper, you’re gonna tag it every time on a track like Bristol.

    Once Terry doored Dale on the front- stretch, what did Terry expect?. That's why he drove in so deep into turn 1. He bottomed out and Earnhardt got to him and the rest was history.

      @ethanweeter2732 Рік тому +1

      Yeah, Terry got loose right before Dale hit him, so he overdrove the entry while Dale hit it perfect.

    Stage racing really ruined the races in my opinion.
    I understand it makes it easier on the drivers, you can actually go to the bathroom and whatnot. But its just less enjoyable, its 4 mini races instead of 1 actual race and its less enjoyable because none of the races mean anything thanks to the ridiculous playoff system.
    Watching a race from 1999 its so much more of an actual y'know *race*

  • @braedonshelton2305
    @braedonshelton2305 2 роки тому

    We all know that Dale spun Terry out. Dale had no chance in holding off Terry. With those new tires. Little would we know that Terry would not win another race until 2003. Bummer for Ricky and Tony.

    Well that was a stupid on nascar's part. They treat the poster boy money maker so well even the fans think it's unfair. They should have taken the win away just based on the crowds reaction especially since he blatantly did it on purpose.

      Nicky D you mean using your car what every driver did? And if you could name 5 races where dale dumped someone I would be amazed. And it has to be on purpose for a win. Not a accidental crash so I’m waiting?

    • @SuperBeaker1
      @SuperBeaker1 5 років тому +3

      Dale won because he was a POS driver who dumped guys and got away with it. Terry’s reply said it all: “He never means to. It just happens that way.” I’d have been beating his ass in Victory Lane.
