It's not just the arm. Manning actually sells the run on play action, and freezes the linebackers. He continues to sell the pass after he's handed off to the back. Those are some of the little things that even a lot of pro QB's don't bother to develop, and they are things that separate good QB's from great QB's. Arch Manning isn't great yet, I get that. But he has been learning practically since birth. Haters gon' hate, but he is the real deal.

For people who remember Joe Montana at Notre Dame, when skinny young Joe went into a game, his teammates played at a higher level. Then when he finally grew into the starting job, coincidentally, it was the Texas Longhorns that paid the price his first year as starter, then another Texas team the following year. And the rest is history. But Arch's athletic abilities are rarely attributes for long NFL careers. QBs like Brady, Peyton, Eli and others with extraordinarily long careers were pocket passers. Whereas athletic QBs tend to get injured a lot and then fade away. And then there was Brett Favre who, for a quarterback, was a beast and took a licking but kept on ticking. But players like him are very rare. But for now, I look forward to watching Arch for the next two years at Texas!

If a starter gets hurt he should not lose his starting job to the backup. If that happens, starters begin playing scared of injury. When the starter returns from injury he must play better than the backup. The goal is to win. Production counts.

That said, hoping he continues to develop physically -- the scramble TD and some of the TD throws looked college-level, at best. Does not look like he's as good as, or better physically, than, say, Caleb Williams -- which could be a problem when he goes to the NFL and is drafted super-high, with super expectations, given what Williams has shown so far after two-and-a-half strong seasons at USC (struggling to play his game in CHI; looks like he's still at USC). But this Arch preview def looks fun!
Well, it was UTSA, but still an impressive outing off the bench , especially that TD run and the last pass which was well defended and not a gimme.

Alex Smith knows exactly how Ewers feels right now. I know it's only UTSA, but Ewers just went from being a Heisman candidate and a first round pick to now everyone wondering if maybe he should be the backup. What's worse is Texas plays LA-Monroe next week. If Arch starts and shows out again, the talk is only going to get louder. While rationale people will think, let's at least see him against an SEC team.

He’s actually better off not starting till next year resting learning and growing /getting stronger . He’s already making millions , not risking injury and when he plays for one final year next year he’ll start show enough to get drafted and be more rested and prepared for the nfl
