I watched the history of Pan Am on UA-cam and I was astonished of how much of an impact this airline had on aviation. It's such a a shame they are gone they are the benchmark of the airline industry until this day. Something we as Americans can be proud of. We as a nation need something like this desperately. God bless the USA and the men and women of Pan Am you did the airline and the country proud!
Pan Am makes other airlines (Jetstar) look incompetent. they really did set the standards for modern aviation today. and yes my profile pic is the Pan Am logo
The vocalist is Larry Santos, who did a lot of commercials in the 70s and 80s, as well as starred in the TV show Hot Fudge. Unmistakeable beautiful baritone voice.
My grandpa and me booked a flight on pan am to London in 1991 not knowing that it shut down that day and when we got to the terminal they said pan am closed and 5 years later my grandpa died and I kept the airline ticket to remember him and the airline
Sorry, but that's not true. The shutdown of Pan Am was well-documented and it did not just close by surprise when you got there. Either you were too young too remember well or you're just lying.
You are incorrect that there was advance warning of the shutdown. Russell Ray, CEO of Pan Am made the decision to shut down the carrier on December 4, 1991 at 0900 EST after Delta Air Lines reneged on the funding commitments that were made in conjunction with their purchase of Pan Am's operations at its JFK Worldport; its routes between New York and Europe; it hub in Frankfurt and it's shuttle business on July 11, 1991. That being said, Delta did honor tickets to Europe plated on Pan Am ticket stock through February 1, 1992; so LngVLy22 could have traveled to London but on a Delta operated flight.
Long live the lady Pan Am. My country's gift to world aviation. Hands down the best there was. Thank you to all the men and women who helped to run one classy airline. Its a monumental task to run an airline, any airline. But this was one classy and sharp carrier. The best.
Same. Damn the 70s were the peak points of almost everything from sports, music, and especially traveling on a 747-200. Even if I didn’t grow up in the 70s, they were certainly great times for what I heard.
If I didn't have a career, I swear to you all now I would hire Manny Bello downthread, find other interested experts and board members, and launch an Indiegogo to restart Pan Am.
It'd be cool if they could preserved a working, flying 747-100 in Pan Am's last livery, and flying it around as a tribute. Kind of like the Qantas 707 that John Travolta owns and flies.
This jingle came out when Pan Am merged with National Airlines, marking Pan Am's entry into the domestic market. Domestic travelers were therefore saying hello to the World's Most Experienced Airline. Meanwhile, established domestic competitors like American, United and Delta were expanding their international services. National itself had flown from Miami to London and Paris for the past decade.
@7rufis PAA tried to merge with some carriers with a strong domestic route system. Delta entered talks and at the last minute backed out leaving Pan Am no other choice but to end operations. Obviously, all the talk of merging was just a ploy designed to eliminate a competitor. Pan Am employees had a saying towards the end: We're Delta. We love to lie and it shows." (A play on a Delta Commercial which sang, "We're Delta. We love to fly and it shows." PAA was truly a great airline.
That was a great video, you had beautiful takeoffs and landings. To be honest they looked almost like professional video shots. Great job! PS. I had never heard the whole "Say Hello!" song before, thanks for posting that as well.
@cathay464 On 18 years Pan Am lost 7 747-121 airplanes, most of the causes are terrorism. And the most discussed was the Flight 103, when Ghaddafi got some guys to plant a bomb in a Boeing 747-121 on Heathrow and then it crashed into Lockerbie in Scotland

Very, very true. I miss that airline.

+Wafa Ksous well he's right. people knew pan am would shut down a couple months in a advance, it was inevitable, and was covered by all news outlets

Delta needs a Pan Am heritage 747!
So sad that the unofficial flag carrier of the US is no more.....trully the greatest airline that ever exsisted.
Kyle Ferguson now Delta carries the torch for passenger airlines for America and beyond.

Pan Am was a very good airline that went bankrupt because of Libya due to PA103 bombing over Lockerbie
Most people still remember the airline. But how many people know what "Pan American" means? Did they ever specialize in flights to South America?
Better than a tiny Dreamliner
