American music played in the most Russian kind of way. I love Russian music for being fast, precise, and collective. On the other hand Gershwin requires a more free-flowing, individualistic vibe. The solo parts just didn't have any personality and the conductor rushed through certain parts that are supposed to breathe. The performance isn't bad, it's just not quite a match for the works intent, not that it has to be. Either way I love seeing orchestras from different countries play the works of American composers like Gershwin & Copland.
Wonderful! Bravo! Unfortunately, there is another way: "The pianist Valentina Lisitsa of Ukrainian origin was excluded from the concert of the Symphony Orchestra Toronto for what to express their views on the situation in Ukraine on Twitter. 8 and 9 April she would have been as to perform works Sergei Rachmaninoff music. But...."
What wonderful spirit! If only there was such harmony between neighbors.
