We haven't been around the New Grand Cherokee to be compare fairly. But I would suspect that it would be hard to beat the value, luxury, and ride quality that the Explorer offers.
The explorer has proximity sensors on the exterior of the vehicle. That means if you are a couple of steps away from the vehicle, the door will not automatically unlock. The key needs to be in your pocket, and you need to be within an arms reach distance to the door. Also, the sensors can also detect if the key is outside or inside the car. The car will not start unless the key is on the inside of the car. Great question.
A very thorough review. Love the background info about the models offered and their equipment with each trim level. It would be helpful for you to lay down in the back with second and third row seats down for those of us who might be using it to camp in.
The POWERFOLD 3rd row seat (which is optional on the Limited) is powered by an electric motor. So if your car is dead, the Powerfold will not work. The manual 3rd row (which is standard) will work regardless, because you move / fold the seats.
The wheels in that very first white explorer are called "20" Sparkle Nickel Painted Aluminum Wheel." According to Ford's internal Ordering Guide, that wheel is standard on the Limited but it is not available at all on the XLT.
The 06-10 Explorer is based on a truck chassis, so it sits higher off the ground. However the New body style has a much more advanced 4wd system. It depends on what kind of off roading you will be doing. If it is NOT extreme rock crawling, or something like that, then I would go with the new body style b/c of the new technology.
At 3:25 you pressed push to start, how did you get the key in there at 3:48? Did you switch to a different model that of the one you were describing on this review?
We have seen a few issues that we have been able to fix. I would recommend you do a master reset under the settings menu. Then if that does not work, try to update the system using Sync My Ride. com
They sure do! All explorers have a third row seat that folds flat into the floor. If you are looking at a limited, you have the option for a POWER folding third row...
Hi townCountry ford my mom is looking forward to getting a Explorer Limited white. Do you how much a 2014 limited is going to be fully loaded besides the tow package. How much will it be?
Hi, good night! I was wondering, Does the regular and the XLT versions of the 2014 Explorer comes with sunroof? Also, does the regular and XLT versions came with the SYN Sony dashboard? It would be nice to have an answer, thank you guys, you are doing a great job. =)
What is the towing capacity on the 3.5 ecoboost? It was mentioned for the other two engines in the base and XLT/Limited models, but it wasn't mentioned for the 3.5 ecoboost in the Sport Model.
will the r camera still come on if the tailgate (if you have a large load) don't have the rear glass anymore. are you able to move the automatic 3rd rear seat if your batt. dies and you need your spare tire what would happen will you not have a spare? but the low cargo is nice. it might just be me but i like the 4th gen's keyless the best
Three months ago I purchased the 2014 explorer sport, yesterday I changed the oil for the first time ,I noticed a air duct next to the converter , my guestion is in snow conditions this is definitely going to clogg ,will this be an issue .
It's just a vent (pressure equalization) tube, would easily be cleared of snow by itself. Why are you changing the oil in only 3 mos? Use synthetic oil and you should be good for a minimum of 10K mi.
Is premium unleaded fuel recommended or optional on the 2014 sport? What will happen if I use regular unleaded? A salesman here in Alberta said I don't 'have' to use premium. I'm concerned about fuel economy, engine wear, and warranty. Are those concerns? Are there any other to be concerned with?
The recommendation for premium gasoline depends on the engine. Specifically, premium fuel is recommended for optimal performance and fuel economy if your vehicle is equipped with the EcoBoost engine. However, while there may be a slight performance and MPG penalty, an EcoBoost engine should still operate safely and reliably on regular grade fuel. Other engines should run optimally on regular unleaded gasoline.
This doesn't help. Sounds like you're just giving your opinion. 'Should still operate safely. .' I was hoping for a response from someone who could guarantee. .
jeff mclaughlin I'm not expressing opinion but merely what would be written in the owner's manual. Since you're confused by the language from my previous post, I shall make it clear enough for you to understand: *For models equipped with naturally aspirated engines, premium unleaded gasoline is not necessary. Regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating no lower than 87 is recommended.* *For the EcoBoost engine, which is turbocharged instead of being naturally aspirated, premium unleaded gasoline of at least an octane rating of 91 is recommended, but not required.* *Engine damage WILL NOT OCCUR and the warranty WILL NOT BE VOIDED, but there will be a decrease in engine performance and fuel efficiency when using 87 octane unleaded gasoline with an EcoBoost engine.* *For all engine choices, NEVER use gasoline with an octane rating lower than 87. USE ONLY unleaded gasoline. Ethanol blended unleaded gasoline can be used so long as the ethanol content is no higher than 10% (no higher than 85% ethanol content for flex fuel capable engines, denoted by flex fuel emblems and signage on the vehicle and the use of a yellow fuel tank cap). Any engine and emissions control damage caused as a result of using fuel that the engine was not designed for will not be covered by the warranty.* However, since I do not work for Ford and cannot accept liability for inaccurate information, you should ask the dealer. But, as you have already asked a salesperson yet have doubts, *ASK TO READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL.* The dealer should be happy to allow you to read the owner's manual, which will contain information about what fuels you can and cannot use. And since the information in the owner's manual is from the manufacturer, that's going to be as good a guarantee as you're going to get.
Look at the owners Manuel what ever the motor is rated for all octane if for is detination if u put to high octane in u could get predetination like pinging when under a load shuffling that but in the bright side the new cars n trucks can sense what type of fuel is in it especially the flex fuel ones so it shouldn't matter just the higher octane the more energy dense it is so higher mileage hope this helps
Bill Lee Well, things are different now because it's a two year old vehicle and the largest part of the depreciation has already happened. Ballpark guess is the sticker on a used one in good condition with avg mileage would be down around $29K depending on whether a dealer or 3rd party sale, and of course how it's equipped but most come 4/5ths loaded.
the explorer has the smart key (remote start) could some one get into the explorer if the smart key is in range and will the explorer start if you have the key fob outside of the explorer
No, the Mytouch system in the dash above the radio won't play videos, but it should play audio off a USB flash or HDD. HOWEVER if you're spending $30K plus on one it is only a little more money to get an aftermarket video system installed in a vehicle, keeping in mind that if it's in the front it could be illegal in some states to use while driving.
Have you found the glitch in the 2013 touchscreens yet?? I have a 2013 and have taken it back to the local Ford dealer and they say that can't fix it....... I am not very happy, as I purchased my car new.
Then you have lost your key. :-) But seriously... The Explorer will continue to run until you turn it off. The Explorer will not SHUT DOWN if it looses connection to the key.
I assume that you are talking about the bottom of the doors are unpainted black plastic. The ordering guides on the 14 Edge's haven't been released yet (so we don't know for sure) but from the rumors I've heard, this will stay the same.
I have a 2013 edge limited but on the sides of the doors are cheep plastic. Is ford going away with that for the 2014 models???? And does the explorer have the same cheep plastic??
Paint like a bass boat! Love it! I listened primarily to learn the difference between 2013 and 2014 Explorer (specifically, the Sport). Is the only difference the size of the brake calipers?
Hey Town&Country guys, I just bought an Explorer but it's old (1998). It's the Sport Model so I was wondering if you guys can do a review strictly on the Explorer Sport. I think I'm gonna buy another one in the future.
Sport does not mean the same thing or equivalent for 1998 as it does in 2014. In '98 it was the lower featured version and only two doors + shorter wheelbase. For 2014 it's the more expensive higher performance version... sort of opposites. There's no way to compare the two. For having the same name they couldn't be more different. The '98 is a full framed, top heavy, primarily RWD (+% FWD for AWD or 4WD options) truck and it rides like one. The 2014 is a modern unibody FWD (+ % RWD for AWD) vehicle that rides and handles like a car.
Was so happy driving Taurus Ltd. Edition TA112 but not satisfied at all with Explorer XLT. Ground clearance is really bad and doesn't make you feel at all that you are actually in a 4WD.
Right now there is a shortage of New Ford Explorers. The demand is greater that the supply. Even then, you should still be able to get a great deal and rebates too. If you would like to look at our inventory, check out the link in the description.
The 2015 Explorers are already beginning to come into our lot! In fact, we already have 18 of them. Not much has changed between the 2014/2015 models other than a new XLT Appearance Package that we are considering reviewing. Also, there are 3 new colors for 2015. Other than that, most of the specs are the same.
Town and Country TV hey Town and Country love the 2014/2015 explorer. But I was wondering when are the 2016 Ford Explorer Coming to you guys Dealership???
Hi All, My colleagues and I would like to share with you our issue with Ford M.E, which is a Manufacturer problem with their “Edge & Explorer” brand that we bought 2013-2014, that has an Intolerable burning smell inside the car while accelerating and they are not taking any action about it until this moment. If there is any suggestions that can help please share it with us.
@Jose None if the Jeeps have 3rd rows unfort. The grand cherokee is the best ESP the SRT but again, only 5 seaters. However, Jeeps are true truck base SUVs meaning they're the best at real off roading.
Having a 2011 Explorer. I can say that I know a lot of owners won't go for the 2.0L because it lacks power and it really isn't that fuel efficient in the Explorer. It won't take you anywhere with a huge load in the car.
Nice video, but just a suggestion....kill the music in the background. I was only able to watch about 1 minute of it because of the annoying music playing. Other than that, it looked like you did a pretty good job!

Great looking car. Wife has the 2013 and couldn't be happier.
The Explorer Sport is a very low quantity vehicle. We don't have any ordered right now, but we can custom order the Sport for our clients.
How can you download pictures on your gallery to display on the screen of entertainment system in a 2014 Ford limited

Newman Gardener kind of a weird thing to do tho
At 8:09 you will see that the seats do fold completely flat. If that is not enough cargo space, you can also fold the second row flat.
I have a 2014 with 110k on it. Happy with it. I miss the color-matched grill on the limited they had on the 11-15

Just picked up a new to me 2014 explorer, shocked to see the legend Mitchel Watts so professional and conservative in this video. lol
We sure will.. We actually have that video coming up this week, be sure to subscribe!

The 2.0 I4 EcoBoost is PERFECT for the highways, sips gas even when were loaded (7 people + cargo), and only loses power at about 100MPH++. I love it.
Gregory Chen Yeah but you don't get 4WD with it
Will you be getting any ford explorer sports, can't find one anywhere in Alabama?

Can you please show us the 2nd row heated seats on the 2014? Just interested on button placement etc.
if someone had left the terrain management sys. on will it affect your driving on normal mode

I agree with watcher3223 is spot on
Does XLT have keyless entry and push start button?
I love that car ❤️❤️❤️❤️
jacqueline chavez you mean Suv
I saw your reviews on the 2017 F-150 series, I was wondering if you could do same for the explorer? It has been over four years.
How much would a limited cost now?
Question if you down payment of 2.500 dollars would it make it under 200 dollars payments per month
far as ik it will be depends on what they dealership says about it.
Do you mean $2,500 down, or do you mean $25,000 down? You are shopping way out of your budget if you can only manage $2,500 down and $200/mo.
Joanie Hansford Sure, if you can snag a 15 year loan.

Please review the base option

would the base be good for a first suv

Best crossover/suv vehicle out there
Great review! Very nice demo on showing access to the 3rd row seats. I think you're the first to do that.
My parents are looking at getting on of these. They want a XLT. Would we actually be paying the sticker price? The one we saw was $35,000 I think.
how much is it pls let me know?

Is the 2014 Ford explorer safe from carbon monoxide cause I heard different 😢😢
Which one of them is better?
