There's a reason that the TRX250R dominated the track for years...even after production had stopped. I'm glad to see you're not drag racing...but actually comparing in a real riding situation.
Maybe it’s just me, but I always felt like the wheel speed on the banshee made it a little more to handle in rocks? Never ridden a 250r built like yours though either so no clue I guess! Both bikes ripping, so awesome, the sound of the banshee never gets old to me! Great videos as always mike!
I’m currently on house arrest going through allot of legal issues, I’m over 6 months into recovery from addiction. Once I get off house arrest I really want to get back into riding quads. Your videos have helped me out allot man. You’re the man keep up the good work. You’re bringing joy to people in ways you would never imagine:)
My 250r was my first quad, Its been good to me. It handles awesome and it has great bottom end power for easier slower stuff. And more power then I know what to do with.
Love that 250r! I have one thats just a stock bore but its a heavily modded spacer plate motor with a shaved head and a pwk 38 carb. It runs on straight race fuel and its plenty for me since Im almost 60yrs old. 👍🏼
From experience and growing up I started on a stock banshee that just had some fmf pipes and it was pretty easy to learn but I feel with starting off on a banshee it does teach you to respect any machine because if you don’t it definitely can get out from under you. Honestly I think it’s all about research and interest wether you wanna go 4 stroke or 2 stroke. But if your a person more interested in 2 stroke then definitely get a stock banshee and learn and work your way up to modifying based on whatever type of ride style you will be doing most. Love your guys videos though thanks for all your hard work you guys rock 🤘🤘 hope this helps anyone
I'm 100% banshee myself stock or modified im good with. I've rode 3 different 250r and my banshee smoked all 3 but the aftermarket shocks on my banshee makes it a little smoother lol 😆
John holding on to that Banshee was epic! Had a buddy that had a brand new one back In 02, took it for a spin by the railroad tracks I remember it broke the tires loose with every shift. Awesome content guys! I have an 07 400ex and an 18 sportsman 570 in the garage but these videos make me want to get a 2 stroke to play with.
Thanks for including the bits where John almost fell off and you went into the bushes, I almost spit out my coffee. The part where you went into the bushes was hilarious haha
John, I gotta say, that was an impressive save. Hats off for not just letting go and ditching it. That being said, why aren't you wearing riding boots? Actually, both of you should be wearing at least a long sleeve shirt as well. A wipe out in those rocks are gonna make your arms into hamburger. Jeez, now I sound like my parents.
I mean they “should” be wearing gear but also they are just messing around. Even when I go for long rips I’ve been just wearing a helmet and warm clothes and I’ve been doing this for years
Love the channel man! Been riding quads for many years now, mainly technical trail riding, but your content is great. I think the best thing is that you didn't have to create some persona for the camera; you're just being yourself and that's very clear, refreshing and easy to watch.
I had a 87 250r that had a esr 310 top end and a +8 hotrods stroker crank. Had custom hand built +2 front arms with peps suspension. A -1 rear swingarm with a modified stock shock. There were a few guys on built banshees that tried to keep up with my r in the woods. Banshees just don't handle well enough to keep up with a r in woods.
Perfect example of how most people would benefit from better suspension / handling of a sport quad than the power upgrades most do to a quad. Most riders can't use the full power of these machines in stock form, and making them more powerful helps, but not as much as suspension at first. Great video.
That save was VERY impressive man. I would have died riding those beasts. This made me laugh my ass off and I’m excited for the next videos keep up the great work y’all do. I also think if I rode them I would probably win on the 250R. Its definitely a tamer machine but I still like the banshee more.
Had an TRX '86 250r and recognize that sound well. Restored it with only slight mods. Spent a little over 3k, sold for 1700, and was glad to have my garage space. The 250R "Banchee killer," got its name because it handled better. The twin carb is just excessive. The trx250r '88 and '89 were improvements and the rarest.
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!?! I go 6 days without really watching UA-cam because I was tired after work and you go and start a new damn season of Quad Wars??? Where was the weeks of setbacks and anticipation? You can't go springing shit like this on me! I damn near stroked out when I saw Quad Wars S3E1.
Cool vid!! Good content! Would love to see a sand dune shootout with these bikes! Also, with these two builds, the suspension on the R is pretty superior to the Banshee so that's why it feels smoother/btr. Keep it up!!
Never rode a banshee before but would love to try one someday. Learned to ride on my dads 89 250r when I was a little kid and bought my own 86 250r last year. It’s a blast! A few months after I got mine my dad bought my brother an 87 250r so now we got 3 in the family. It’s so fun to go play in the dunes with them. I could only dream of making my 250r like yours. That thing is sweet man. 👍
Hope you guys do the fuel injected 700 big dogs some day...Trx700xx ...700 Raptor...Kfx 700...that b sick! Thats my world... Great videos fella's! Keep on keeping on
I would definitely go with the the 250 Quad Racer. I had 1 back when I was in highschool and it always amazed people that I was able to hang and even beat Banshees and some dirt bikes. I'm currently looking for a 250.
That was a pretty cool comparison to have all 3 of you guys run both machines. My question is could you tame down the power band of the banshee a little to make it more usable power for an application like this or the woods? Like maybe reed spacers or flywheel weights or something along those lines to kind of smooth out the difference between non power band and power band. It really comes down to the rider and seat time, back when we were doing hill climb events I seen some pretty amazing runs put down by guys on banshees.
I definitely think the power curve could be smoothed to make it a better rider in the woods; the banshee is like a light switch with power. It's a result of the way I built it not know 100% what I was doing. Porting and different pipes would drastically change it in my opinion (which is soon to happen 😎 )
Watching this episode got me thinking that the drag race episode it’s going to be a close race and it’s going to come down to whoever can get the best launch. I think the R will get a better launch. The shee will possibly be a 2nd gear launch on the to hook up better and keep the wheels on the ground. You will still pull them up but it should be more controlled on a second gear lunch. Can’t wait. The shee is a dune Machine most definitely.. it will be hella fun on the dunes.
Racing back in the 90's in the woods you never saw a Banshee out there. And if you did it was not a problem to get ahead of them. The 250r just has the best all-around handling. And the Banshee is just a handful at least all the ones I have owned have been. They are great on the sand dunes though.
If you are looking for your first quad please stay miles away from either of these machines and get a 4 stroke as a beginner of first quad these machines are also very exspensive and not for a beginner rider
@@MichaelSabo my expirience is when I bought my 125 it happened the same, front wheel always wanna take air. After a while I started disassebling and I realized the powervalve was stuck open. It made the bike much easyes to ride hard. Hope it helped
i love the even ness of the 4 stroke for a newbie lol ill hit that jump full throttle at the base and SKY on my yfz450r. i would DIE on the Banshee. But i LOVE looking at them lol
It’s a no brainer, I’d win with the R haha! I’m only about 150lbs and very biased to the 250r anyways since I ride one. I’d be hauling ass with that Dave Moore motor 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Love the video. Me and my brothers banshees would be a cool test on that hill. Mines stock bore and stroke with a 2-1 pipe and intake. My brothers is a 4 mil long rod stock stroke with a custom 2-1 pipe and intake. Let me know
i would say with the 250r and the cr250 its as hard as u can push it they are great race bikes the harder u push it the more it steps up to the plate as for the banshee well it has its limit no limit to mid range power which is where most yamaha design excels but in the end the harder u ride the more response u get out of a race bred 80s bike
With the current setup the r should dominate, longer hill or smoother hill, and don’t forget sand, the banshee should dominate.
