I well remember the show the first time around! I was seriously in love with Darlene, in a six year old kind of way, and could never understand why the other little guys liked Annette so. Darlene was easily the most talented of the original Mousketeers.
I remember Darlene as a kid. I especially enjoyed her in short episodes from the Mickey Mouse Club, titled "Corky and White Shadow". Darlene was Corkey, her dog was named White Shadow, and Buddy Epsen played the part of her father and sheriff. She was determined to help her father track down an outlaw by the name of the Durango Dude. This was my favorite.
I find many stars sway back and forth over the years about their early careers, spouses,co-stars. I wonder if it has more to do with personal choices they made that they now regret. Look at 'some' stars of old sitcoms saying it ruined their movie careers; only to turn around a few years later on a sitcom reunion tour milking it. cheers
I hope that Darlene was brave and gentle around the puppy at the pet shop. 😂! It's not polite to tease people when they hold puppies. 👍🏻 if you agree and like 👶🏻🐕s.
It's because, by this time, they wanted to make her more like the favored Annette, who was actually dull and kind of stupid looking. Darlene was charming. Somebody ought to do a follow up on her if she' s out of prison. She could make some mon on talk shows telling what none of the other Mouseketeers won't.
Ha Ha Roy's acting! Why was he on the show? Darlene was good, Lonnie was a poseur, Tommy a so-so singer and Bobby a good dancer but a phony. Annette radiated warmth and sincerity that's why she became popular. Cubby and Karen were kept for the little kiddies and Doreen had good comic timing and personality. Of the later Mousketeers only Bonnie Lynn Fields had potential greatness.
16 going on 17? I believe this skit was from the third season of the Mickey Mouse Club, and she was fourteen when she was originally hired for the show.
Yeah thanks Mr Bleeding Obvious we'd never figure that out. That still doesn't change history and save Miss Gillespie's career. Somehow I can't imagine Darlene in '' Beach Blanket Bingo ''.
After hearing about Walt Disney (who is my idol and hero) throwing Darlene and the rest of the Mousketeers out in the cold in favor of Annette, I somewhat feel betrayed. I have nothing against Annette at all. I think she was really talented all but i feel betrayed by Walt Disney for actually having favoritism.
When Darlene smiled her face just lit up. She always looked so happy and I'm sure was a very nice young lady. Also was multi-talented.

To me she was the prettiest of them all
I've been looking for this clip for YEARS!! Always my favorite as a little girl!

This was a production number seen at the beginning of the third season, in the fall of 1957. Note how everyone is more mature here!
Darlene was hot back then
I think I had a crush on her when I was a little boy.
I think I did too and I was a little girl!!

Her acting was always "hammy" - whereas Annette didn't try so hard (not to say Annette was a Class A actress!).
same here. Hahahaha
this was cute!

reminds of wizard of oz a litlle
this is a little older of what i thought! lol
Darlene was way more talented as a singer and actress than Annette ever hoped to be.
lindalds sure you just calm down there

And she called it Puppy Love..........
Hmmmm. Roy, a stranger, complements Darlene's dog, so she leaves with him? Anyone else find this somewhat creepy and disturbing?
How old was Darlene here??
Sixteen.
Poor Darlene. She was sent to prison twice. The last time was for fraud and conspiracy. I think she's still in there.
Actully who cares what happened to her. And it was a white collar crime with her husband.
