What I was getting at is that it is a very different cultural landscape and the Code confuses people because it (intentionally or unintentionally) leads people to think about the churches as neatly divided between Eastern people and Western people. The Byzantines were Romans. Folks don't seem to get that. I think if Latins understood this they would be more likely to understand the need to include all Roman theology, which necessitates the Greek patristic tradition. Hopefully that clarifies my point a little
