I love to see old classics kept alive - awesome job! I have the same boat that I bought to use as a lake bomber and ended up really liking it. Currently I'm near completion on a transom/stringers/floor replacement.
Thank you for doing these videos - I have found them very educational in helping me restore my 1970 Crestliner Muskie 15' tri-hull. Thanks for the comment - appreciate someone who replies to ones comment.
@@jmink Jay, Just bought a SIGNA 16' or 18'Tri-hull 1971 from a scrap yard for $100. Transom is broken - Will have to watch your videos again. Thanks. Chris k
I juSt purchased a 74 Tri Hull and am taking it out for the first time today. The trim pin was set on 3 but now I may start with it on 2. Thank you so much for the great info. 👍🏻👊🏽
Great job! Side note, when installing a back pad for the front, you will have to shorten the seat pad so t will fit in front of the back pad for easy removal.
I'm nostalgic and I really like the design and look of these old trihull bowriders. I think it looks really xool withe the tio up. Nice boat thanks for posting
Oh, look... it's dark outside... I found your channel, and this Playlist this morning, and have watched it straight through. Tomorrow morning I plan to start the motor on the tri-hull that I'm helping to restore... not to original, previous owner took too much off for that, but my friend who owns it wants to make it into a combination fishing/pleasure boat.
What an amazing journey Josh! I did a search on UA-cam for separating a cap and found one of your early videos from 6 years ago. I’ve watched all of your glastron videos over the past couple days and was surprised to see the last one was just posted a couple weeks ago. Nothing short of impressive, it’s funny to see that you’ve aged over the project lol. I recently picked up a 1974 Bayliner Mosquito as project that my boys (13&9yrs) and I will do this winter. It’s a pretty basic job in comparison to what you’ve done, just transom, deck and stringers. We spend a lot of time at the lake through the summer on an old cabin cruiser, this will be their fishing boat. Thanks for the inspiration.
This was most of the work -> transom, deck and stingers (took me 6 months fulltime (working alone) and jmink years(cleanjob)), this is the easy part -> painting electric and getting cap seperated
I have the same boat! I just got it. You gave me alot of ideas. Mine needs alot of work. Your looks amazing! Awesome job! Definitely do speakers up front. I plan to do some on mine. Maybe under the bottom of the seats?
The classic look is already gone. I have a 1973 MFG. Upgrade it! Unless it %90 original, it is worth what's it's worth. I'm in the beginning of restoring, but if you upgrade %50 of it, it's going to show. Go all out. It's your baby, make it to your taste and needs, forget value through someone else's eyes, pay attention to how many things it accomplishes for you! So much work, so much money, do you, and your families needs. Keep it up! Excellent job!!
Looks Great! Reminds me of the first family Glastron in 1970! Excellent memories! Love the Bimini top I just put one on my little fishing boat, love it. One suggestion though, you need to carry a spare prop.
Had a 1971 glastron 142 skiflite bought new in 71 would love to have another needing minor repairs. Back in those days glastron was the Cadillac of boating like to hear if any for sale in my area Fall River mass
Great job, Josh. On my V156 I have led strip lights up front, just below the windshield on each side as well as along one third of each side in the cabin. Great if you want to stay out a little later with a glass of wine. I notice that you have not got V156 stickers on the sides of your boat. My boat had them but they were in weathered condition so I had some new ones made up. I have a spare set and would be happy to send them to you, free of charge , from Australia as a thankyou for the great series. Just let me know. Thanks again and best wishes from downunder!!
John you are too kind! If it's no trouble I will take you up on your offer. Send me a message to info@joshuamink.com and we can coordinate everything. Thanks again!
Brother, every detail you have touched on is exemplary. I really enjoy the time you have taken to make this a fun and functional boat. Far be it for me to make suggestions but I have a thought on the forward cabin cushions and the tunes. You could have some wrap around each side cushions sewn up with snaps that you could pop on and off depending on whether you are doing some serious fishing or just cruising around. And as far as tunes, I don’t see a huge problem with maybe getting some waterproof wakeboard style speakers that you use like the cushions...pop em out for chillin, store em when fishin...? I really appreciate your analytics of things you have learned as you splash and splash some more. Looking forward to the next update👍 Great stuff and all the best! Float, Float On!
You are too kind! I like your ideas, I am definitely leaning towards adding sound in the rear of the boat. Stay tuned, I still have a few more videos up my sleeve.
once you cut holes you have to live with it. add a set in the side/rear under the gunnels make a panel and mount them there. not needed in the front. one more thing i recommend a transom saver when towing, keep the motor from bouncing, connects trailer to lower unit. nice work on the resto, restored my first boot to it was a 14 foot glass par. also my current one 1991 Farallon whale back. have fun man
Looks good Josh! I just learned I am missing the motor resting bracket from your video. I don’t really need it though since I use a transom saver. I have a ‘73 65HP Evinrude, but the motor mount and bracket is exactly the same. I put mine on a CMC power tilt trim unit as it had the old hydraulic manual pump tilt originally. I found the CMC TNT unit on Craigslist. As far as the radio, I would add speakers in the front for sure. Another option would be to mount them in the wall below your seats rather than up top if you have room in your under seat storage area.
Make some loose cushions for the bow backrests or use velcro tape so you wont have to screw holes to hold in place. Also there are clamp on speakers that clamp to the rails kinda like the clamp on rod holders. No holes required.
I’ve been watching your videos from start to finish. I’m going to start on my boat , everything has to come out wish me luck. I got one of your T-shirts.
It came out fantastic. Regarding the speakers, I would not put them in the "foot" area. I've had it happen a few times on my V156 that a big wake boarding boat with the bladders full will come by me from ahead and put a wave right over my bow. I think those speakers would get soaked if/when that happens to you.
Thanks for the feedback Matt. I am definitely leaning towards adding them in the back of the boat somewhere. I myself was on the fence about adding them upfront and most of the comments have been on the same page as me. You definitely have a good point about waves crashing in.
I would love to see some underneath shots of your trailer bunks/rollers. I have a 77 skiflite which is close to this boat and I think my trailer is a little screwy and there may be rollers resting where they shouldn't be.
Check the tail end of this video and see if this helps with the trailer. ua-cam.com/video/8CrbndXoDy8/v-deo.html Sorry I don't have the boat here at my house currently or I would run out and snap some pictures for you.
@@jmink Thanks, appreciate it. I started cutting into my poor rotten boat and it's only rotten in the back 2 feet where the battery and gas tank sit.. Stringer is pulp, although the transom seems ok, at least at floor level. I haven't drilled in lower than that yet. So it seems I have a new project...I binged your entire restoration and I have to thank you so much for putting that out there -- even though it was years ago, it's still the goto series on fixing these old glastrons!
Great video's very useful, just bought one myself.. I have one question, what's the minimal HP to get it in plane? I would like to stay under 40hp if possible..
HI Roy! Thanks for the comments as always! I hope your daughter likes AState, I also went to school there and I enjoyed it. They've really changed the campus since I was there, mostly for the better.
The bow cushions are awesome!! Redoing a v156 now that didnt come with the cushions do have a video of doing them and any suggestions on a template for them anywhere?
I used a local upholstery shop in my town. To help get the ball rolling I ordered the marine grade vinyl and piping online then I made two seat bases out of marine grade plywood. Once I had the materials I took them to my guy and said I need you to sew and assemble for me. I think I briefly showed them being cut out in vlog #26 ua-cam.com/video/98MrZwZw26c/v-deo.html
Looks great!! I'll just pain my diferent color and also have the stero removable, use 4 small speakers a 3ftx2ft subwoofer box with 2 - 12s and a 1600w amp.
I have a question, where did you get that Bimini top? I've been looking for my boat and we have the same boat. But I only can find a basic top. Haha. Thanks
Carry your back rest cushion all the way around the side and to the front. Mount the speakers in the padding. No drilling required (other than fasteners)
Do you have any idea where a guy could find a replacement factory style Bimini? Or the front storage lid. I just bought the same boat and they’re missing. I’m new to boat stuff. Cool video!
That is one smart looking boat. Well done. On a side note I wouldn’t be comfortable with the fuel tanks being so close to the battery, especially the metal one.
Do you have any problems with speakers draining your battery? I have the exact same boat model (gold instead of blue) And I've been slowly restoring different features over the years. I've wanted to add a speaker, but been nervous that it would draw too much power and leave me stranded.
hey iam new to boating fixing up a 1972 v156 where you have the battery i dont see a bilge pump or dont you need them in this type of boat. also could i move the battery up the front on the right side thinking of making a space by my right foot cutting a notch out. thanks for the help jerry
Hi Jerry, thanks for watching! You are correct my boat didn’t and doesn’t have a bilge pump. I thought about adding one when I was restoring, but I changed my mind. I don’t have a problem with water standing in the bilge area. Any water that does get in gets drained out at the end of the day when I pull the boat out of that water. If my boat didn’t live on a trailer I might say I would need a pump.
Don't cut into it, I would use movable kicker boxes. This way when you want sound up front you can have it and when you don't you can have them put away.
It's been almost a year since this video. But if you still haven't come up with a place to put more speakers. I was thinking, just get some blue tooth speakers. Just don't mount them.
Can anyone tell me where to find a 1975 Tide Craft blueprint for stringer restoration. We just cut the floor out, and we are not sure how the stringer setup should go because the floor is SHOT!!
Great clean project! We received the same backhearting complaint and no sound in the bowsection of the V156. So im thinking about: backhearts: see-> i.imgur.com/aC56W4M.jpg (but than also on the sides panels) Sound: 1-putting small tweeters (5cm) on both sides (passenger and captain) below or next to the glass/window 2-below/under the seat(s) panel in the bowsection, where we save the lifejackets. 3-between the side panels of the passenger and captain cockpit where we cross to go, to the bowsection trimposition: www.boats.com/how-to/the-outboard-expert-boost-speed-with-outboard-engine-height-adjustments/ Really curious where/ (how high) your caviation plate is at the moment Battery: Great position of the battery! but doesn't it get flooded because we added a drain, from the front to the back?
My family used to have this boat when I was a Kid and its still my favorite boat to this day. Glad to see one brought back.
You are one of the few people who actually completes the project and shows the end result. Very nice job on the boat.

No problems at all. The old Evinrude shoots out the power to the battery. I also made sure to not have any power leaches.
Get motorcycle speakers that mount on the handlebars and mount them on the rails on each side
Don’t cut the boat for speakers! Bow riders DGAF. Mine’s a 17 foot ‘72 arrowglass cheetah. Lovin your series.
Definitely not going to cut any holes. I'm probably going to add speakers to the rails eventually, just something not obtrusive.

Speakers below the seats on the side wall of the foot path

Hi there, it looks beautiful! How long is your Glastron?
Thanks! Off the top of my head I believe it's somewhere between 14 to15 feet long.
Who did you use to paint your boat?
Would this boat be decent for tubing?
I uploaded a "short" today that might answer the question.
Where do you hook up the tow rope for the tubes?
I have a *Self Centering Tow Harness* that I connect to both of the stern eyes.
Flush mount speakers
Just add some speakers on brackets
I just bought a 73 glastron v156 can u recommend the best place to get parts
eBay, facebook marketplace, marineengine.com, overton's, bass pro shops, etc.
1 speaker below your front storage where all your inflatables are
Can I ask some advise?
Where did you order the Bimini Top < thanks

it seems to me that a lot of wieght in the back you got motor, battery and 3 gas tanks filled isnt the boat low in the back/
Nope. She’s just fine.
Did you put carpet down??
😞 no I haven't. I can't decide which route I want to take, but I'm leaning towards sharkskin flooring.
I just got a big JBL Bluetooth speakers for my audio
put a sound bar on it

So im thinking about:
backhearts:
see-> i.imgur.com/aC56W4M.jpg (but than also on the sides panels)
Sound:
1-putting small tweeters (5cm) on both sides (passenger and captain) below or next to the glass/window
2-below/under the seat(s) panel in the bowsection, where we save the lifejackets.
3-between the side panels of the passenger and captain cockpit where we cross to go, to the bowsection
trimposition:
www.boats.com/how-to/the-outboard-expert-boost-speed-with-outboard-engine-height-adjustments/
Really curious where/ (how high) your caviation plate is at the moment
Battery:
Great position of the battery! but doesn't it get flooded because we added a drain, from the front to the back?
