There has been a lot of progress since the last video/update. In this newest video, I discuss/show everything from: removing the last bits of the interior and windshield, adding supports to the trailer to make it more cradle-like, removing the rub rail, and finally removing the cap. Instead of separating these bits into their own videos, I wanted to make one big compilation that would move forward faster. So take a look and thanks for watching.

Very smart building that cradle ! Many DIYers don't realize how much the hull will flex on the full cap is removed, Same with the hull once the stringers are removed.
I want to Thank You for your video series. I just got a 72 Glastron, it had the same rot as yours, plus they hacked at the transom to fit a short shaft motor. I have torn out the floor and just just cradled it. Your videos have given me confidence to take on this project, and get this boat back in the water!! Thanks again!!
Did you ever finish this project
@mark davis
I restored a 1976 Glastron T178 a while back and had to rip everything out and split as you are doing. Finished project was worth the trouble, but what a chore to get there. Good luck..
Thanks dcmorton1 I've actually seen your posts on classicglastron.com. I am prepped to remove the transom and stringers, but haven't gotten to work on it in a few weeks. It is nice to hear from someone like yourself who has done this kind of restoration.
You'll love the grinding that comes next! Great videos, keep them coming.
Respirators, tyvek suits, duct taped sleeves and pants...the griding that comes next sounds a tad bit freaky! Thanks for the comment. I am definitely going to keep making these videos until this old boat is back in the water!
@jmink I bought the same exact boat and I removed the screws that held the cap down to get to the transom which has holes and dark goop seeping from it. My question here is, what did you do to separate the cap from the transom? It looks like you were cutting it from the outside. I have been cutting at it with the multitool and it's rock solid. I'm not sure how deep should cut to. Any thoughts or tips? Thanks
The cap is connected to the hull across the rear of the boat. There's a splash well infront of the transom along the top on the inside of the boat and this is fused with the transom. To remove I used a oscillating multi tool to separate it from the transom. I did this carefully so that I didn't cut into the splash well. The cap is also connected on either side of the transom along the top behind the trim pieces. I hope this makes sense, you can see in a little more detail in my video where I reinstall the cap. ua-cam.com/video/FX36i4HgKfg/v-deo.html
nice work! glad i found your build. im just starting a 17ft dixie. how much resin & cloth did you end up using for the floor & stringers ?
I can’t remember how much I used, but I made this video a few years ago going over a lot of it Project Glastron Uncensored: Viewer Q&A and Mail Time Reveal

I hope it has an answer in there.
I don't want to remove my cap on my 1978 Glastron Sportster. Is there a big danger in not removing and just replacing the stringers that are not under the cap, front part of boat? Most boating will be on rivers and lakes, no real choppy water like near the gulf. Thanks
Hey Josh I'm starting on a 1989 Glastron G205 Futura. Do I have to remove the cap to replace the floor or can i cut out the rotten areas and patch. The stringers seem to be good. It seems to hold water underneath
Hi I have a speed boat and what to take the cap of to replace floor and transom do you have any videos/photos of before the cap removal. Mines fibreglasssd underneath the cap so I'd guess I'd need to cut that first? Thanks
+GINGERDAVID90 I️ only have the videos that I’ve uploaded to my channel here on UA-cam. But, I️ do have some pictures here: flic.kr/s/aHsjRm1Vnd My cap was fiberglassed to the transom/stern of the boat, the rest was held together with screws.
ok great im sure these will help my project is a driver 500
Any tips on removing the cap? Doing a 1978 Glastron T-156 right now. But it’s glued to the transom and I’m stuck for ideas to remove without damaging the cap..
Thanks
I had to cut my cap around the transom area to free it. I don't think I showed this up close in the cap removal, but if you take a look at my video where I reinstall the cap you can see where I cut it. When I sent it off to paint I had them fix the cosmetics and then gelcoat over.
@@jmink ahh, that makes more sense
Appreciate the reply!
Are you going to reuse the rubber insert from the rub rail? I’m trying to decide whether to take the cap off of mine or not. With the rubber insert new screws and sealant it seems pretty expensive to do so.
+Shane Russell I have been planning on replacing, but I did keep the old one as a backup. I haven't purchased a replacement yet. The old one was pretty rigid when I removed it, I feel like a replacement is necessary for reassembly.
jmink my boats just going to be a fishing boat I don’t want to put a ton of money into it. That’s why I was curious about reusing it.
It would be tough, but I imagine with enough time and patience, you can probably reuse.
I found a screwdriver from 1987 and the black power ranger in my boat when I took the cap off :)
Ha ha, by the way my wife got a kick out of the power ranger part. I also found a comb, but I didn't talk about it in my video. :)
