Man watching this in 2019 feels so weird
It does
Why? Did Quadcopters maneuvers catch up to tricopters?
its 2023 my guy
You guys are great! Just stumbled across your channel and am a big fan already! Am going to build my first real quad (F450) this weekend and all the knowledge and advice are much appreciated. Keep em coming!
I love flitetest you guys got me hooked on the hobby and ive seen almost all of your videos and i check everyday for new ones :)
OMG I can't wait for all of the reviews. You guys are awesome at giving hints.
Love the show guys....Q& A is Great!
Nice to see your finally using David!
You should do some more tricopter videos, they all are super AMAZING!
Its like Christmas every time you release a new video!
Makes for smooth, sweeping FPV shots.
You guys kill me. Had a friend last weekend almost lost his fpv because of the wind and didnt have return to home thanks for the tips and thanks for all the hard work.
Awesome stuff guys, keep it up. Rapidly turning into the best RC show on UA-cam since you dropped the crazy Hobby-king love making sessions!
Those Wellers are AWESOME! I have the same one, and have never had a problem.
I want an in depth DLG video! And a crashtesthobby product video! You guys rock! I love your videos. Thanks for your hard work.
Excellent Thanks Guys.
just wanted to let you guys know im such a big fan of the show keep it up and cant wait to check out the FT-CRUZR.
Would been nice to see Tri-copter vs Quad-copter flying next to each other one behind doing pattern of a 8 close together in 100 foot area, can it be done?.
Great video guys, like the land you use to must be nice your lucky. One fun thing to try, fill up a gas balloon release in air try to pop it with quads can you make a video of that to this would show some flying skills.
Saw you do have some wind, would be nice to know speed of wind at test time. In my area wind is a problem for small quad copter with small motors and 5 inch props. Information on props would be nice to, why size matters.
Great input.
I love the new look of the logo at the end of the vid. Way to go....
Perfect, thanks guys!
Love the look of that FT Cruzr, can't wait. Thank you once again for an interesting video, tris and quads are not my bag, but still like to listen.
Oh man, I would love to see more of the footage of that huge gas plane!
Please make more videos!
great stuff! :)
can you show the most simple way of of making a scratch build airplane - preferably a bit small and make one which can stand a crash?and also show what servos and electronics to use and where to buy then ? i am completely new to the hobby and i just love it! best video ever you are the bessssttt!!!!
Yes....and I can't wait to do it :)
the planes in the back are looking GOOD boys!
Hi guys, loving the Q&A format, I think your viewership could easily support a third episode a week! Hint. Hint.
Ft cruz in the back ground still also the aerobatic plane too cant wait for those builds
Please review the Turnigy 9XR with the Spectrum module, because i heard a lot of bad thing of them...
You are definitely the best RC Show on UA-cam!!
Thank you for your help and work on the show I have had this Rc sickness for 15years this show is the best thing happen to this hobby . I would like to see more on dlg/sal gilders and were to get plans to build some small 900mm and smaller samething u can fly in back yards thanks again from down under keep up the the fantastic work ps make a vid of just David cracking up when things go wrong eg the rocket plan exploding, I'm just like him when shit goes pear shaped
Love you guys vids. I am new to flying RC hobby and am really drawn to really small heli's and quads. Big is cool but small really impresses me. My firdg quad was the Estes Proto X and just got a Hubsan X4mwigh camera. Would love for you guys to do some vids on the small micro RC planes, heli"s and quads.
How about a Josh vs Josh vs David top 5 uses of bacon contest.
Maybe a multirotor flight controller comparison too.
Great videos guys. Keep up the good work!!
LOL, the ad before the video had many quadcopters in a car AD.
Hey dave could you make a video on how you built the tricopter, i just love it, thanks for all these videos :) you guys rocks
I was leaning towards and H quad but now You've convinced me. I'm building a tricopter (David's carbon fiber Tri looks so cool). And I would love to see the skywalker vs the x8. That would be a cool video
Love the J 28 in the background! :-)
Another good video, thanks gentlemen
I've been using Weller soldering irons both at home and as a professional electronics design engineer for very many years. I'm retired now but I have at home that must be over 30 years old. Its temperature is controlled magnetically (Curie effect) rather than electronically but it's still working well. When (if?) it finally fails I'll replace it with another. It's the Rolls-Royce of soldering irons and was (maybe still is) owned by a company owned by RR
Your show keeps getting better and better !!! You are correct, NOTHING is better than bacon. We need more information on the tri copter, especially the servo. Does the APM support the servo? After watching your video on the H copter I ordered the APM and am building the H copter. Also built a light board with strip LED's. Great idea. The video about how you film the program was VERY good. Keep up the GOOD work.
Like to see a fly off between the X8 flying wing and the Sky Walker V6 and maybe the X5. ;-) great work boys and please keep them coming.
You guys need to take that Good Year out!
This is why I recently bought a V-tail quad. Best of both worlds.
I would love to see a giant scale foamboard build. There is some structural engineering that you won't encounter in smaller builds, and i think some people - especially old balsa builders, would appreciate it.
I want that tricopter! Can you show us how/where to get one or how to build it, parts list, etc. Keep up the good work. Love your videos!
I would love to see a review on the Turnigy 9xr and the phoenix 2000 glider. They both seem to be popular on hobbyking and both are in the mail heading my way.
I'd like to hear David talk more about setting up mixes for gliders (flaps, crow ect.) and gliding principles / tips.
Love the show. Keep it up
Glad I watched this video, I Honesty thought the Tri copter would be more limited in it's flight.
I like your Weller Soldering Iron. I had the Weller WLC 100 for years but it just wasn't powerful enough at 40W. I was considering yours at 50W but then I found the TrackPower 960 a 60W soldering iron that is rebranded Hakko 936. The TK 960 is awesome and has gobs of power. I can now solder 8 AWG wire with out any trouble.
Awesome video reponse guys once again I miss Josh Scott too! BTW Here's some questions for you guys
1.Will you guys ever do any vids about nitro powered planes or heli's?
2.Could you do a review new Edge 540qq?
3.What are your feelings on 3d profile planes like the Mojo or Chin Yakk?
Watching this in 2024 is crazy, those were the good days
cool channel .. I purchased the bat bone . Also built my own tri copter as well
Great video! but I would love to see a build video on your Tri-copter
Would love to see a smaller series of swappables - esp a twin for indoors. Using 5x4.3 props for example. This indoor season is almost over but if you guys had a series ready by next season that'd be fantastic
I appreciate the rotation of the hosts, especially when Josh Bixler and David are presenting a topic. I would much rather watch two experienced RC guys sharing their knowledge and opinions then watch a comedy routine which can get annoying sometimes.
I like the idea of doing an X8 review...OR how about a scratch built foamie version of the X8. Also a build video on a hot wire setup (bow and power supply) would be cool.
I think what your saying about the tri copter as far as manuvior ability, is that its a very fluid in its movement. And I agree. Im not very good at helo's or tri or quad copters but I enjoy the watching the vidoes taken from FPV.
I like the Swedish insignia on the Vampire in the background!
If you could squeeze it in, maybe a segment on DLG and launch techniques. Maybe even review and toss the Dream Flight Alula and Weasel. Overall...the best Show on UA-cam for the hobby really! Enjoy it very much. Cheers and take care everyone on FT
The tricopter is a great platform for aerial video, defo gets my vote for best multi rotor.
My 2 cents in tricoptees: wen do we stop moving the whole freaking motor, prop, cables and start moving a simple rudder beneath a fixed motor/prop? Or two rudders, or three? Same servo, same FC, almost the same settings. No more gyro pushing from the tail and less wear on the bearings and even faster response times as a thin symmetric airfoil as a rudder could weigh like three grams on a big copter.
I was wondering the same thing?.. does anyone know if anyone has tried this?
Daniel Schinsky I'm working on it and I will post it on rhcforums when finished or almost finished.
But will take time as parts and materials are not cheap.
Sometime this year.
Saw a couple of guys (2, 3 posts) had used a rudder to yaw their tricopters but vague and scarce on details.
Anyhow it's not a big deal. Just put a symmetrical airfoil on the tail servo underneath the prop and motor.
Good stuff guys! My heli scares me lots too... ;)
The guitar store I repair at has one of those fine Weller !!
yep :)
Nice
TEST X8!!!! That's a plane that got me interested in this hobby, and now I work slowly through hobby to get skill and equipment to build FPV platform on black X8! So PLEASEEEE make one episode with X8!!!!
I would love to see a build video of the tri copter!
It would be awesome to watch a video of building the hcopter with step by step details n have the links to the parts to order them n which radio systems to go for. That would be great because I've been watching yas videos n I really wanna start an h copter build really soon!
RC groups has lot of info on parts used most time called a build log.
Most our using the new KK2 board hobby king has for sale this has buttons and screen for settings cost cheap. From what I see your looking around $130 to 230 to build one quad copter if you have a 4 ch radio.
Would love to see the X8 in both an build up video and an review. It looks amazing and I am curious to see if it will live up to the hype!
The Douglas TBD-1 Devastator. Should make a great beginner plane.
Alright i'm a big FPV guy and I have always liked to see some real long range FPV flying, putting planes through their paces.
These are the two current Large FPV Models Im interested in...
- SkyHunter (SH) *My favorite
- New SkyWalker 2013 (Carbon Boom)......Different wing setup? 1680, 1880, 1900?
- Try a Constant Speed Prop. for FPV efficiency???? (Always have thought of that :)
- Test different airframes for long duration flight and efficiency?
- SW Vs SW/Carbon Boom?
Jake
Lmbo !! What's better than bacon .... Love you guys !
Great show you guys, I have a question. I have a buddy that is interested in getting a quad for rescue purpose. The rescuing will be to locate down planes that end up in the bushes, VERY thick bushes with thorns and poison ivy. Is there a set up that is capable of using a camera that you can zoom the lens in and out from your TX? It is something I have never seen. Everything seem to only fixed focus.
this might seem kinda random, but i am getting a syma 5xc and i have heard about how the stock charger is trash and will damage the batteries. what charger brand/charger do you recommend?
I must say i did a couple of flights with my GoPro 3 Silver, And it never freezed in mid flight or had any other problems. I flew for 11mins at temps close to 0°C. Though it does tend to freeze at startups and i think always if you turn it on with DIY mini USB AV connector plugged in.
Asked that on FB for this session already.. might've been a bit late..
Let's hope for the best (of the best)
love it love it love it !
Really need to make a full tri-copter kit.
which would you pick for stability? ie if i wanted to say, inspect my gutters on my house, or fly over a forest with infrared cameras? I like the tri-copter, as it seems to be more "flight" oriented, but stability in a hover is something i also need, I'd rather not go to a hex or octa though.
also, whats a good option for an IR camera? a good budget option for FPV transmitter? (I have a HAM technician license! as well as GMRS license, so more bands & power available, be taking my general class test in a few weeks) and is there a good mount for camera tracking? ie if i want to "look around" with just the camera head or shine a laser pointer?
i'm thinking mostly short range, and i'd prefer a quality image over going farther range. i don't think i'd fly more than 1 mile away from base station, but I DO have a HAM station, so i can mount an antenna about 25 feet in the air.
Munky332 A quadcopter is definitely the better option for stability, but is less power efficient than a tricopter. Also, quadcopter a are WAY more commercially available.
As a side note, a fixed wing (plane) is well suited for large-scale land surveying and has a longer lasting battery, but cannot hover.
In the movie those were tilt-rotors, similar to an Osprey, except the rotors were ducted. They did not have a 3rd fixed rotor. I've seen an RC vertion of one here.
Being in pro video, I completely agree. Camera movement in this environment is superfluous. "Less is More." In addition, although these shows are very interesting too me, there is more chit chat than is needed, and a sharp editor would leave some of that banter on the cutting room floor.
Good idea. It really would extend flight times :)
Would like to see you guys scratch-build a Tri! Love David's design, a video documenting putting one together would be great. Would also like to see some comparisons between the GoPro and the BEVRC Explorer HD or Hobbyking's version HD19 Explorer HD.
For the different FPV Planes, it would be awesome to compare two in one video. One of you builds one plane and the other person the other plane. Then you we can see the differences in quality and building time etc.
Great videos...You may want to consider the Wittman Tailwind W-8 or W-10 for a swappable project. It has easy lines and a great heritage. It was the first homebuilt to be approved by the FAA to carry a passenger. That was in the early 50's. The designer,Steve Wittman, flew his Tailwind well into his 80's.
Just a thought. I'm getting together the hardware for the Baby Blender. Big fun'-)
Also, since it is not possible to avoid the propeller yawing effect that a quadcopter relies on (as there are an odd number of motors), the tricopter must have some roll offset to hover in place. The shorter the arms, the more the tail must tilt to compensate for yawing, and the more the tricopter is pushed sideways. You will also see more unintentional yawing in abrupt climbs without some more tricky mixing math. It still all "works", though. :)
With the yaw authority in a quadcopter vs. a tricopter I would argue that a thrust vectoring quadcopter would have far more turning authority than any tricopter. Another really neat thing is that the hobbyking kk2.0 board comes with the software and the channels required for a thrust vectoring quad!
I'm with RCman701. Davids Tri copter build would be fun to watch.
Hi guys, just a thought regarding the X8....I had an idea a while ago and using my X8 and a very cheap Arduino board, some landing gear and an ultrasonic sensor - I managed to build some self activating landing gear. - pretty easy actually, all that happens is the Ultrasonic sensor ( under the plane ) waits till it detects about 6 feet off the ground and tells the Arduino board to switch on 3 micro servos that either drop or raise the gear. Fly above the height it retracts - below- they drop.
Oh! I would like to see what you can come up with for a super slow and stable flyer. Possibly with a motor that uses very little power but with an airframe with LOTS of lift.
Servo episode might be nice! Like you said!
on a swappable series i would love to see some sort of hotliner / powered glder, or even a swappable wing would be cool too like the tek sumo or pop wing would be cool
I would really like a introduction to gps guided drones. I think because drones are all over the news lots of people would enjoy that. Greetings from germany!
I'd love to see a Swift II on here!
I remember watching this a long time ago
I chopped one of those hard plastic white patio chairs in half with a 450. It nicked one of the props but the chair was completely destroyed.
Nice video
I converted a simplecopter to a Atail quad and now I am getting almost half flight time, same frame and battery, just added an extra arm, motor and esc.
sometype of pusher prop so nothing breaks on landings... i dont wana plug a name but something like the bixler... a RTF version so its all there and u charge and fly... then expand with the parts u got, GL! its so fun i have trouble wiping the grin of my face when flying
Thanks, I'll try that.
Hi Guys
great show, Keeps me sane during the winter months.
Please Please could you do some revieves on the twin copter. PLEASE.
I fly a quad and a tricopter ,yeh only thanks to your show.
I have built and fly them both, I have never seen them be your show, You have help me to achieve this, so please .TWINCOPTER.....
BEST Fan of Flight test in the U.K.
In antisipatoin of you giving the twincopter some Airtime I Thankyou.....
Pete.....................
You guys should make a video on building a tricopter, im planning on building one so i would be extremely happy and it would also help :)
G'day fella's good stuff as usual. Have a look at the Windrider Ele-bee2 (48")and the Scout Bee (60") as FPV platforms. The Zephyr seems to be pretty popular however the Windriders are a fair bit cheaper.
John Salt and his 10 step lessons program helped me go from crashing my blade 400 every flight, to belting around having a blast in a few months of training. His E books also helped me to fix and set up that heli too. I also highly recomend RCHELICOPTERFUN if anyone is looking to learn to fly collective pitch. Regards, Ben.
Hi!
I think it would be good to continue on flite tips basic flight school series.
Inverted flight, aerobatics videos where good, very useful for beginner pilots.
There is yet much to cover: landing, general flight profile, safety, landing, safety.
Some more tips on aerobatics would be fun.
There could be a separate episode on 3ch eleronless plane aerobatics. These are quite capable if the pilot is :)
Thanks for your work.
My go pro 3 has been having problems like the one you described but also a massive freezing issue. The only way to get it out is to remove the battery. So after many hours and many firmware updates later, I think I finally got it. I ran the most recent firmware update manually, you have to do it manual, not java. Then make sure to format the micro SD card after. Since that, I finally haven't had any problems with it. Still looking forward to a 100% reliable firmware update Go Pro!!!
When you flew the NEX on the H quad which motors did you use and how did it cope with the weight? I am thinking of putting a NEX on a David Tri with dt750s but i don't know if it will hold the weight...
