    Would been nice to see Tri-copter vs Quad-copter flying next to each other one behind doing pattern of a 8 close together in 100 foot area, can it be done?.
    Great video guys, like the land you use to must be nice your lucky. One fun thing to try, fill up a gas balloon release in air try to pop it with quads can you make a video of that to this would show some flying skills.
    Saw you do have some wind, would be nice to know speed of wind at test time. In my area wind is a problem for small quad copter with small motors and 5 inch props. Information on props would be nice to, why size matters.

    I've been using Weller soldering irons both at home and as a professional electronics design engineer for very many years. I'm retired now but I have at home that must be over 30 years old. Its temperature is controlled magnetically (Curie effect) rather than electronically but it's still working well. When (if?) it finally fails I'll replace it with another. It's the Rolls-Royce of soldering irons and was (maybe still is) owned by a company owned by RR

    Your show keeps getting better and better !!! You are correct, NOTHING is better than bacon. We need more information on the tri copter, especially the servo. Does the APM support the servo? After watching your video on the H copter I ordered the APM and am building the H copter. Also built a light board with strip LED's. Great idea. The video about how you film the program was VERY good. Keep up the GOOD work.

    I like your Weller Soldering Iron. I had the Weller WLC 100 for years but it just wasn't powerful enough at 40W. I was considering yours at 50W but then I found the TrackPower 960 a 60W soldering iron that is rebranded Hakko 936. The TK 960 is awesome and has gobs of power. I can now solder 8 AWG wire with out any trouble.

    I appreciate the rotation of the hosts, especially when Josh Bixler and David are presenting a topic. I would much rather watch two experienced RC guys sharing their knowledge and opinions then watch a comedy routine which can get annoying sometimes.

  •  9 років тому +2

    My 2 cents in tricoptees: wen do we stop moving the whole freaking motor, prop, cables and start moving a simple rudder beneath a fixed motor/prop? Or two rudders, or three? Same servo, same FC, almost the same settings. No more gyro pushing from the tail and less wear on the bearings and even faster response times as a thin symmetric airfoil as a rudder could weigh like three grams on a big copter.

    • @insightoftheages5571

    •  9 років тому

      Daniel Schinsky I'm working on it and I will post it on rhcforums when finished or almost finished.
      But will take time as parts and materials are not cheap.
      Sometime this year.
      Saw a couple of guys (2, 3 posts) had used a rudder to yaw their tricopters but vague and scarce on details.
      Anyhow it's not a big deal. Just put a symmetrical airfoil on the tail servo underneath the prop and motor.

    These are the two current Large FPV Models Im interested in...
    - SkyHunter (SH) *My favorite
    - New SkyWalker 2013 (Carbon Boom)......Different wing setup? 1680, 1880, 1900?
    - Try a Constant Speed Prop. for FPV efficiency???? (Always have thought of that :)
    - Test different airframes for long duration flight and efficiency?
    - SW Vs SW/Carbon Boom?

    Great show you guys, I have a question. I have a buddy that is interested in getting a quad for rescue purpose. The rescuing will be to locate down planes that end up in the bushes, VERY thick bushes with thorns and poison ivy. Is there a set up that is capable of using a camera that you can zoom the lens in and out from your TX? It is something I have never seen. Everything seem to only fixed focus.

    I must say i did a couple of flights with my GoPro 3 Silver, And it never freezed in mid flight or had any other problems. I flew for 11mins at temps close to 0°C. Though it does tend to freeze at startups and i think always if you turn it on with DIY mini USB AV connector plugged in.

  • @Munky332
    @Munky332 8 років тому +2

    which would you pick for stability? ie if i wanted to say, inspect my gutters on my house, or fly over a forest with infrared cameras? I like the tri-copter, as it seems to be more "flight" oriented, but stability in a hover is something i also need, I'd rather not go to a hex or octa though.
    also, whats a good option for an IR camera? a good budget option for FPV transmitter? (I have a HAM technician license! as well as GMRS license, so more bands & power available, be taking my general class test in a few weeks) and is there a good mount for camera tracking? ie if i want to "look around" with just the camera head or shine a laser pointer?
    i'm thinking mostly short range, and i'd prefer a quality image over going farther range. i don't think i'd fly more than 1 mile away from base station, but I DO have a HAM station, so i can mount an antenna about 25 feet in the air.

    • @allistergraham9448
      @allistergraham9448 6 років тому

      Munky332 A quadcopter is definitely the better option for stability, but is less power efficient than a tricopter. Also, quadcopter a are WAY more commercially available.
      As a side note, a fixed wing (plane) is well suited for large-scale land surveying and has a longer lasting battery, but cannot hover.

    Being in pro video, I completely agree. Camera movement in this environment is superfluous. "Less is More." In addition, although these shows are very interesting too me, there is more chit chat than is needed, and a sharp editor would leave some of that banter on the cutting room floor.

    Great videos...You may want to consider the Wittman Tailwind W-8 or W-10 for a swappable project. It has easy lines and a great heritage. It was the first homebuilt to be approved by the FAA to carry a passenger. That was in the early 50's. The designer,Steve Wittman, flew his Tailwind well into his 80's.
    Just a thought. I'm getting together the hardware for the Baby Blender. Big fun'-)

  • @simtubes
    @simtubes 11 років тому

    Also, since it is not possible to avoid the propeller yawing effect that a quadcopter relies on (as there are an odd number of motors), the tricopter must have some roll offset to hover in place. The shorter the arms, the more the tail must tilt to compensate for yawing, and the more the tricopter is pushed sideways. You will also see more unintentional yawing in abrupt climbs without some more tricky mixing math. It still all "works", though. :)

  • @RCHobbyist463
    @RCHobbyist463 11 років тому

    With the yaw authority in a quadcopter vs. a tricopter I would argue that a thrust vectoring quadcopter would have far more turning authority than any tricopter. Another really neat thing is that the hobbyking kk2.0 board comes with the software and the channels required for a thrust vectoring quad!

    Hi guys, just a thought regarding the X8....I had an idea a while ago and using my X8 and a very cheap Arduino board, some landing gear and an ultrasonic sensor - I managed to build some self activating landing gear. - pretty easy actually, all that happens is the Ultrasonic sensor ( under the plane ) waits till it detects about 6 feet off the ground and tells the Arduino board to switch on 3 micro servos that either drop or raise the gear. Fly above the height it retracts - below- they drop.

    My go pro 3 has been having problems like the one you described but also a massive freezing issue. The only way to get it out is to remove the battery. So after many hours and many firmware updates later, I think I finally got it. I ran the most recent firmware update manually, you have to do it manual, not java. Then make sure to format the micro SD card after. Since that, I finally haven't had any problems with it. Still looking forward to a 100% reliable firmware update Go Pro!!!
