Like most in the USA I became a big fan of the three kingdoms period because of dynasty warriors. And I love learning of everything they twisted to make 1 side or general look better or worse for a better story

In my opinion, lu bu is so good is material acts and fighting skills , so his administrative and intelligent level doesn't good and that lead to his demise

Great video and history. Very thorough. But the subtitles are abhorrent. And pronunciations of people and places is tough to get through.

Quite sure the actual history behind the Three Kingdoms era wasnt as fantastical as what popculture has portrayed.

True history? LUBU NEVER EXIST IN HISTORY!! He was part of hundreds of fiction characters created by Luo Guan Zhong publisher to spice up his novel. True history of 3 kingdoms can be found in Beijing's national archive library where all stories were taken and ONLY taken from ancient records found by archeologists from Royal tombs. The records also matched with one another even they were discovered in different tombs. You will be surprised to find a real HISTORY of 3 kingdoms, such as Liubei a local governor, not sandal maker. Zhangfei a treasury and excel in caligraphy and poem. Lubu and Diaochan were both never EVER explained in any records, therefore they are part of fiction character. Liubei also never volunteered to protect Xuzhou against Caocao and never took any part of Red cliff battle. He however allied with Caocao against Yuanshu and defeated by Sunce who served as Yuanshu vanguard. In Luo's novel, suprisingly mentioned Sunce was busy expanding his domain in South, which was not true at all.
To explain the confusion people have. Luo Guanzhong was a novelist, not a historian. He own large business of publishing stories. This is the time when China invented printing press, where they can print stories in thousands per day, compared to other nation that still relying on human power to copy every single word one by one. China in Ming dynasty was prosperous and everyone demanded for entertainment. Many folklore stories for the first time created, printed in this era, hence creating so many legendary stories such as Lore of Guanyin, Erlang, Naza, Journey to the West, Xijinkuei, Women of Yang family, Yuefei, 4 heavenly kings, and of course The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Stories so good, that people build temples to worship fictional characters that linked to historical figure which makes people really believe Monkey King really existed in reality.
To even think Luo has a very detail of conversations from commanders, generals even kings from 1000 years prior to his era was simply impossible. Even nowadays it's like you know what Trump, Obama, Clinton talked to each other in their secret meeting. Luo hired dozens of novelist, few historians (people who travel from 1 town to another to collect folk stories), and poets to spice up the whole grand novel. Even for poems in 3 kingdoms novel, they are irrelevant as 1000 years of span, the poetry in Han dynasty is wayyyyyy different style, writings, and sounded compared to Ming dynasty. It's like you compare 1024 culture to 2024 culture, wayyyyyy different. The British at that time won't understand the English you speak nowadays. Not mention if u talk to grandparents with 50 years age gap, they already confuse ur words. lol.

Thank you for the clarification. It's correct that Diao Chan is a fictional character and not a historical figure, but Lü Bu did indeed exist in history. I am certainly aware of and can distinguish between the novels "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Records of the Three Kingdoms," as well as the actual historical events. Additionally, Lü Bu's tomb is located in Hunfeng Village, Hunfeng Township, Xiuwu County, Henan Province, and it has now become a protected cultural heritage site at the county level in China.

      Lǚbù is real in history...
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%BC_Bu
Liubei is also a part of the Red cliff war
According to a popular Chinese comments, Luo guanzhong's this novel is 70% real and 30% fictional.

Every Chinese dynasty has their official historic book, from Han to Qing, there are 24 history books.
This history period is recorded in Records of the Three Kingdoms(三國志),don't confused with the Romance of three kingdoms(三國演義), which is a novel.
And you should also know that Chinese character is rarely changed during more than 1000 years, a good Chinese high school student can read a book writen 2000 years ago after his ancient Chinese education(which is 文言文, is like Latin to English).
maybe you have no time to read the books, but at least the Wikipedia is a good start.

Anyone with basic education can distinguish a (at least famous) history figure and a fictional character even if some of they can't distinguish novel plot and real history of a real person, nobody in China believe monkey king is real except young children and fools.
