- A few weeks ago, I showed you how to make an ApotheScary Medicine Cabinet for your spooky bathroom! Today, I'm going to show a simple DIY project for making the ApotheScary Bottles to put in it! I hope you will enjoy this Gothic diy project whether you use it for Halloween decorations, to decorate your haunt or for spooky year round living!

could you imagine taking ur dog for a night time walk and this vampire dude is just chilling painting some bottles.
😂😂😂
I mean...it IS New York...🤷♀️
And as soon as you hear him speak, your mind goes "This guy sounds strangely familiar..."
Bonus points if he's humming the Brains song.
I would be so happy
Thats Typical new york.
Im honestly impressed about how you come up with these ideas
Loved the idea
It's beautiful but I thought he would choose the titles carefully (for example: "bloody bandage", "bone aspirine", etc) xD
"even though its a symbol of commerce" my first thought was "uhhhhhh that might actually be intentional, given health prices in the USA >.
tips for knowing what are in the tins !
I just labeled under the bottles and tins, what is it inside, so I just have to watch under the package to know what is inside, it doesn't change the visual of the final touch, but you know what you have very quickly.
I hope it helps !
For adhesive, you can also water down some PVA glue, place the label on the bottle and layer the glue mix over the top. It'll also add some shine to the label in case you don't have gloss paper.
Wow amazing and insightful video! I personally would have done the labels a little more in tune to what is going to be in it, just my Virgo rising analytical mind taking over, but as a whole I totally dig the overall concept! Keep up the great work.
The little spherical bottle with the pendant was gorgeous 😱😍
If I may be so bold as to make three suggestions. 1) A coat of mod podge decoupage adhesive could help protect the paper from warping. 2) I use Krylon matte clear spray on plaster of Paris figures and other very porous crafts that I make. You can spray several very light coats. It helps make them water repellent and protect the Mod Podge and suggestion 3.
3) If you wish to do so, a silver sharpie could be used to give a brief description or inventory of the contents, on the bottom of the containers. Then put them upside down to spray the clear coats.
This has to be what it would have felt like giving painting suggestion to Rembrandt. 😳
I'd use an Avery digital label maker and put labels on the bottom of the bottles and jars so it's easier to tell what's inside. You can even download font packs if you're feeling fancy.
I love that you know about the Rod of Asclepius!
These are beautiful! Quick top, your labels can be sealed with a spray sealant/ clear coat from the hardware store. :)
I blame this on sleeping too little after my night shift, but at 2:07 it reads "ass storage" and "rage jar"!!
Anyway this was a super cool DIY idea, I already have some jars and small bottles ready!
Can't wait for spooky box under the sink, maybe an ornate chest would work
Nice idea!!!! I may have to do this with my kitchen! I've been collecting bottles for ages, it's the witch in me.
Imagine a nosy guest opening the cabinets 😱🤣🤣🤣🤣
You're like the gothdad I never had
If you used more food safe bottles you could also empty the contents (like you did the acid reflux) and then just pop a little label under the bottle saying what’s in each one and dosage directions.
Super cute though definitely gonna be frustrating for a while 😂
Another awesome DIY backed with top notch guitar track.

I love your creativity! Always giving me ideas!
You got the details about the Caduceus and the Rod of Asclepius and what they symbolize right? Have an absinthe on me Voltaire!
You are just so entertaining! Im glad i stumbled upon your content today. 🖤
Welcome aboard!!!
I wonder if you cut laminating sheets to the designs or packing tape to kind of seal them in, if they would be more water resistant. With packing tape, you'd probably have to deal with more lines between strips of tape, but that's how my roommate seals some photos she prints for art projects.
"Maybe I have the pH of a woman?"
That was hilarious. I love these videos.
🤣👍🏻🖤
Also people check your local thrift stores and four bottles and dollar stores have some beautiful bottles to but I would go with Dollar Tree if you have one
😱😱😱😱😱now Looks amazing I might try that for my bathroom I move thank you for sharing keep safe take care 🖤🧛🏻💜👍🏼👍🏼🦇🦇
You are so inspiring
You should put the matches into the rounded bottle and attach a strike to the back or just around the bottle (after making it black of course)
Good idea! Have you seen my How to Make a Gothic Matchbox video? You might enjoy it!
Love this. gives me so many ideas!
I know you were figuring it out as you went, but here's a slightly more logical order of operations.
Fiigure out what the bottles will fit
Paint the bottles as you see fit
Come up with labels that fit with the contents (to some degree)
Print said labels
Apply
Amazing! I love it all 🖤🖤
Awesome video!
So Voltaire buys bottles with spooky gothic colours and labels just to paint them black and put his own labels on them?
Also some small box in a cabinet, maybe steel one would be useful to store all the little things.
Hey I used to get picked on for wearing cologne instead of perfume, but while they're genderized differently, if you think about it they kind of have the same purpose lol. I think people should just wear whatever they like without worry. Not to respond to Orville's deodorant comment more than the video haha, the end product was really lovely! ^ ^
Ive never clicked on a video so fast!!!!!
Love the episode! Could you clear coat the bottles to waterproof the labels?
Cool!!
I've got boxes under my sink I dare not open. 😎
Will you ever do a house tour??
Yes, when it's all done
Is there something you could apply or spray on the labels to protect them in case they get wet?
Hay Voltaire why not make up a coffin shaped box to sit on top of your Apothescary cabinet to store all your leftover items in? ⚰
Love, love, love!😈👻💀☠️👽🎃🧟🧟♂️🧛🧛♀️🧟♀️
can we buy or dowlaod some of you labels the look sooo COOL
Yes, soon! I need to get on that!!
@@TheLairofVoltaire Cool can't wait i love how you guys are super spooky but also look like really sweet and fun people to hang out with. even though i bet that the zombie guy disagrees 😉😂 , what his story anyway were did you find this funny fellow ;) 🤔
UA-cam GOT IT RIGHT SGAIN AAHHH
I only imagine the day Voltaire skin's his knee, and then he desperately tries to find his bandages.
Great video, as usual. I hope to be able to make your DIY someday.
This was absolutely wonderful - how clever actually functioning apothoscary bottles... I would have given hints in the labels though so you can find things easility. lIke Bleeding sores for bandages, skull dust for aspirin...and so on. Still brilliant as ever and inspiring as a gothic diy master. Yes, you are our Dark DIY Master.....i did make a floating potion bottle you might like on my channel as well! Have a great day and Live the adventure!

Finally someone acknowledges that the entire American medical system uses the wrong symbol! As a doctor, I cannot overstate how much this irks me.
Nope, for how it works, USA medical system is using the correct one. It's all a business.

Have you Considered selling your labels Pdf form for instant download? Don't underestimate your Creative ideas. The Labels turned out Gorgeous...and against the black mate bottles...Elegantly done 🙌
Thanks, I tried to make that happen in time for this episode but the production schedule on future episodes coupled with recording two albums simultaneously got in the way. But I do plan to do it! 😊
The Lair of Voltaire where you get apothecary bottle with the black lid?
yes!! The Plague B Gone is priceless.
Fun fact: I'm an HP salesperson by day and artist by night! Watching the photoshop and printing bits made me happier to see than most people will get, lol! But I'm definitely gonna keep this in mind, I've been looking for ways to make my candles nice and spooky!
And hey, deodorant is needlessly gendered anyway, I use Old Spice's Wolfthorne! XD
Same here! I love the sent. If makeup is gender less, why can't deodorant be?
Krakengard is my most recent favorite :)
Old Spice scents are just too good to care about that stuff
I LOVEEE the Old Spice Fiji scent
Me too. It works for me and smells great!
I see a brown cork and I want to paint it black...no colors anymore I want them to turn black...
Great job on that apothescary cabinet and bottles!
I wish Voltaire made a cover of that awesome song.
To keep from constantly opening bottles to find something, you could put little labels on the bottoms that list what's inside.
I love Secret deodorant too. Works great, smells good!
that's what I have done in my kitchen ! it works perfectly
I agree with the labeling!!!
This man is an artist in every sense of the word
I would try to think of label names that would make it easy to find things.
Yeah me too. Creative names for practical things. Since you can add any text you want, put "Laudanum" on the pain meds jar, put "Mummy Wraps" on the bandaid jar, put "Anti Plague" on the hand sanitizer, etc.
@@lestranged Imhotep Gauze - Keep wounds dry and wrapped up tight. Just like Mummy used to use.
@@Fickji You are a genius. I bow before such punny talent
I was thinking the same thing.
If you're a Harry Potter goth, Polyjuice Potion/Ingredients would be fun for the one with all the stage makeup.
Spooky box under the sink... I can think of a box with tentacles, trying to escape to eat your soul... or maybe with skeleton arms trying to get out
Good idea!
@Thomas R ha! Thats an interesting idea too!
Mimic👏chest👏
I'm not a goth, but your style, DIYs and this show are a inspiration. Big fan of your music btw.
dont deny your dark side..😉 *its not actually a four letter word..🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
For anyone trying to do this: Joanns Fabrics has some cool bottles with stoppers for sale with their Halloween stuff this year!
I just use random bottles I find off the street. It works pretty much the same way.
I'm so lucky I live near an antique store that has a whole section full of actual apothecary bottles and cans and boxes.
No they don’t
Frankly, I would've charred the corks, I've had a history of paint chipping off corks.
Tell Orville to stop giving you crap about the deodorant. He should just be grateful that you use it. 😂
Heck, pretty sure *Orville* is the one badly in need of deodorant. Dead dude funk can *not* be pleasant.
No amount of deodorant is going to remove dead dude funk
@@Mokiefraggle hopefully he's so old and dry he's lost his stank. 😂
I stopped using Secret and moved on to Dove- its less toxic and I ruined too many black tops. Works as good, but always aware there is aluminium if you go with anti perspirant the no. 1 cause for Alzheimer’s. I wear deodorant at home and anti perspirant if going out. Spared my health a bit I hope.
If your "Spooky box under the sink" isn't labeled as such, imma be sad lol
I heard Modge Podge works for the labels. One coat to stick, one coat to protect and it dries clear. And you can wash w/o them wearing off.
I thought about that too, or spray laquer maybe. Maybe brushing on mod podge smears inkjet ink though? I have a vague memory of that happening to me but not sure
I used modge podge and scrapbook paper to decorate flasks. Normal modge podge gives a little protection, but not much. It's essentially very thick Elmur's glue. They make an outdoor safe modge podge I want to try next time.
yes i was SCREAMING for him to seal the labels
I was thinking clear packing tape or contact paper over the photo paper, but I like the other sealer ideas.
Modge podge breaks down when exposed to moisture. It’s best to use an acrylic top coat.
Spooky bathroom tip for anyone reading! Keep an eye out for things in black that you wouldn't expect to be that colour. Daiso here sells pitch black Q tips, I've seen black tissues before but don't recall where, and I've been on the lookout for a black toothbrush without coloured stripes or bristles. They're not exactly display items but they're things commonly stored visibly for convenience and it looks surprisingly nice when they all match like that.
Something to think of for a black toothbrush, get a bamboo and use food safe dyes to stain it.
Absolutely! I'm a fiend for leopard print, so I buy what I can use, but display as much as I can. My partner is so mad the cotton buds in our bathroom are only for show. We have plain ones to actually use.
"Charcoal" tissues will always be black and good for exfoliating your skin :)
Jill4ChrisRedfeild lol I have those!
Awesome! I haven't seen those before
Awesome! I just picked up some bottles for this purpose. Can't wait to see how they turn out! 💀🖤💀🖤
I'm planning on making Halloween/Gothic ornaments for a Halloween tree this year. I'd love to see you cover something like that around Christmas, I'm sure your ideas would be amazing!
Excellently done Voltaire! 🦇 Have you thought of possibly selling some of your label's in sticker format? I could definitely see people wanting to buy them. They're really beautiful ❤
How to find out "quickly" what is in which bottle? Just stick a label under each bottle with a short description of what it contains. The bottles turned out to be exquisite indeed. Greetings from Northwest Mexico.
Voltaire, I wonder if a professional printing shop could print the labels as dark as you like on a washable label ?
10/10 would cry about all the bright colours and shapes.
Gorgeous I'll have to do this when I move and hopefully I won't scare my future husband lol. Who cares I know I can be scary all on my own.
Oh sweetheart you should have used water slide paper, white not clear. Runs through your printer just like photo paper but before applying you spray with clear coat spray paint. They will also lay smooth against the glass unlike photo paper or even the shipping labels that have a bit of thickness. If you've never used water slide it's great!
The bottles came out freaking awesome.

Can we all just take a moment to acknowledge that Voltaire is the Martha Stewart of the Macabre Home Makeover.

turn your lables into tags and tie then to the round bottle necks
I'm still hoping that some intelligent company will give you the opportunity to have your own line of housewares and such.
I would also love to see you receive recognition that would put Elvira and Bela to shame!
love and respect to you, Voltaire
You could do an Alice in Wonderland inspired hang-tag style label on the round bottles...doesn't have to say "drink me"🤔🤣👍
Just when I thought the apothescary cabinet couldn't get any better, being absolutely gorgeous by itself, you go and fill it with gorgeous bottles. I love this project. It's perfect. It's macabre. I need it in my bathroom, to tie in with the rest of my lair.
"Spooky Box Under the Sink," huh? For a second, I thought he was going to go for a new song. Eh, maybe later.
It's always risky to separate medicine from their packaging, if you can't tell what's what at a glance. Good call keeping in on-theme, and good warning on the Halloween thing, I wouldn't have thought of that.
The smaller bottles? Perhaps you can use those to store scented oils? Or some way to organise those little cologne bottles that come free in magazines or whatnot, everybody collects but never uses? Those are tiny bottles, and not knowing exactly which is which doesn't matter if you're willing to put on a random scent. Other than that, breath mints are an option, if it's a food safe bottle. Or something to keep hardware in, like tweazers or possibly small scissors that you want to keep sterile. You wouldn't be able to close the bottle then, though...
I would've planned out beforehand what items I had and how to sort them, then bought containers accordingly and made labels that actually indicated what they were for easier sorting (though perhaps with a spooky twist - "blood moss" for bandages, "vampire tears" for allergy meds since my allergies make my eyes water, etc).
I am impressed and kind disappointed that a lot of those items cant be used for your more liquid medications due to the painting you did and I know you dont want to have any led poisoning. You could the same method for cooking ingredients if you just paint the outside or for any steam punk style DIY peeps, use wired hangers, fake jewels or other styles of steam punk for such a project.
I put labels on the bottom of mine so i know what they really hold. I took brown paper wrote out spooky names for my spices and burned the edges around the paper so they looked old. I don't have a printer but this worked out too. I put them on a shelf and put fake cobwebs around them for year round charm.
The obsession with collecting glass jars is finally paying off! This is a great idea
I'm planning on making my own Wednesday Addams arsenic bottle and using it as a water bottle. This was really helpful!
Honestly, these videos give me hope I could do something like this too, and it wouldn't be a full Desaster.
Personally, I would have placed a ring of black paper around all the hard bottles, to A. Be able to label them directly and B. I would prefer the color helping me find what I'm looking for. You could have used paint to make it truly monochromatic though.
I am very surprised though that you didn't paint the original hard bottles and then label them. As long as you used food safe paint, it would be easier and you wouldn't be forced to compromise so much space.
I do love how you put this project together though. 🦇 Especially the large open mouth containers that hold so much.
For the round bottles, may I suggest labels tied to the top, like in the Alice in Wonderland "drink me" bottles?
Yes! Looking forward to spooky box under the sink. I love how you applied a lot of practicality to this project. 😁👍
Those bottles look amazing. I've been working on a _Frankenstein_ themed skateboard ramp for a while but have been struggling with the paint. I spent all day scraping off the satin black paint I used because it was way too shiny (especially for something my friends and I are going to be looking at while attempting to ride off it on our skateboards - sun glare is the last thing we need). Frankenstein's monster is a reanimated corpse and I don't picture him as shiny. I think I'll go back and try that flat black paint again. It looks so good on those bottles. Great video!
Very nice. It's the little details that sell a space, and all the bright plastic bottles really did harsh your gloomy mellow.
Backseat decorating, with the benefit of seeing what you did first, I would suggest a slightly different process for anyone trying to do the same thing. First, fit your products to the bottles-- if necessary buying a few more. THEN paint them black and do all the decoration. And if it were me, I'd make the labels a little more descriptive of what's actually inside-- Mummy Wrappings for your bandages, etc.
But anyway, I love your channel. My wife and I are finally doing the goth bedroom neither of our moms would let us have when we were kids, and you're a huge inspiration. Can't wait for the next one.
This video couldn't of come at a better time, I'm attempting an ApotheScary project of my own. Your finished bottles look amazing, and fit right in.
Love Halloween Poison bottles! So whimsical, funny and spooky! :3
I love your idea with black bottles. It’s amazing. 👍👍😊😘🤟🏽🙌🏽🦇🧛♀️🖤💜⚰️💀📱
I had been wanting to get in to replacing packages with jars and spooky boxes but had too many ideas and could not narrow down where and how to start. Thank you for the dark path to trek on my journey to apothecary bliss!!
What if instead of a spooky box, it’s a mimic chest?
Oh so so gorgeous!!! I am deeply jealous of your skill with photoshop as well as the fact that you have access to Michael's!
You Sir, are a design god to me .......
Very nice! I've done much the same. Being more NeoEdwardian than Goth, I just left mine clear which makes things easier but I actually dumped the pills out of their original bottles into mine. Probably not officially recommended but the bottles are clean and labeled. I think glass is glass, even if it is not "food safe." I wash them with very hot water and dish soap, rinse them well, and then sanitize them by filling them with water and adding a denture cleaning tablet. Those are great to have around for cleaning decanters and flower vases that you can't easily scrub, too. You could boil them if you thought you should. Putting labels on with rubber cement is messier but makes it easier to take off later, if you want to. Spraying your label sheets with clear lacquer after you print them would make them water resistant, if not water proof. I've managed to find a few antique bottles but they are generally fantastically expensive. You can also get new bottles with glass stoppers from laboratory supply companies but larger sizes are pricey there, too.
Watching this is a cherished pastime for The Addams family.
I'm so happy I'm not the only guy using Secret Deodorant.
I like the Lavender smell.
This was a fun DIY. I have made printed gothic labels for my kitchen jars with a Xerox, packing tape, and water. I plan to make uniform jars for all my herbs next.
Oh haha you put medincines into the bottles. I like it that. 👍😊😘🤟🏽🙌🏽🖤💜💀🦇📱
I love you so much for knowing the difference between the staff of Apollo and the staff of Mercury!!
It is ok Voltaire. My husband uses Dove women's deodorant. He works in a semi-outdoor capacity in a blue collar factory job in the South and swears that toiletries designed for women are better and protecting against heat irritation that men's products. I love your goth decor vids. Not my style, but they give me a wealth of ideas for my goth neice. I did love how you showed off the more green natural goth items in another vid. Very Vulture Culture.
Since they can't get wet you'll need to be careful with bathroom labels. Maybe you can use some kind of waterproof gloss to prevent that? The bottles look lovely. This is something I'll have to try whenever I get my own place.
