For the skull texture you can also use mod podge and tissue/toilet paper instead of silver leaf. Just smush it around and get all the texture you want. Let it dry then use a pearl paint over it. Cheaper and easier.
I agree. sponge painting over mod podge much cheaper. For old spell books take an old book. hot glue lettering add plastic spiders and or skulls. Then modge podge napkins over that.Dry overnight. Sponge paint dark stain, then gold or copper paint highlights. turns out really cool and spooky! fun stuff adding eye balls on the flowers is fun too for the florals.
I love that you factor in all of your cost, including things that you already have on hand, but I do think realistically those items last for many many different projects and people who DIY tend to make many projects, so I think you actually did way better than your "savings" were, all of these turned out so well and I'm definitely making the snake candle holder and the skull!
*Snake Hurricane* . Wondering if one could use a rubber snake and glass cylinder vase from Dollar tree. Gold spray paint, E-6000, painters tape/toothpicks for spacing to hold snake in place while it dries?
That wreath is a WIN! You definitely nailed it. edit: the snake vase is perfect. so good. the skulls are phenomenal. you really knock it out of the park.
Me watching this in the dead of summer: LET THE SPOOPY VIBES COMMENCE. Also maybe if you plan on doing something similar to the skulls in the future, try buffing the pearlescent pigment into the surfaces to give that pearlescent sheen (a lot like nail pigments that are buffed into acrylic or gel nails!).
Love the skulls! I pulled one from my stash gonna try using tissue paper and modpdge. Love me some irredesant shine, maybe even a bit o bling...cuz why not!
Rediscovering my love of crafting and generally mucking-about having recently started to remember what it is to be myself following 2 (wonderful) kids. I haven't chuckled, clapped with glee or felt a kindred spirit of curiosity in craftiness in a long time. Thank you for taking the time to brainstorm, craft, film and edit and everything else that goes with this.
I love the wreath and want my own now! As for the snake, next time you try something similar, I would suggest using polymer clay. You can also stuff it with wire and aluminium foil, but you can bake it right with the glass. You can even mix an acrylic colour into the clay and then bake it, if you‘re concerned about what will show on the inside of the glass.
So much FUNNNNN! I loved all three of your projects but I have to admit the skull "flower vase" was a total winner! ...but so was the wreath...and the snake...lol
Omg, the Capiz skull dupe!! I think I would try mod-podge tissue paper instead of the drywall compound. Then the iridescent paint over the white base. But omg, the silver foil was gorgeous! Yours ate absolutely stunning!!
Finest crafting episode ever! In the history of the world! Not just your history! All were fabulous, all. But the wreath! Absolutely finest kind! Ever!
You and pup pup gave me a much needed belly laugh today and although I liked you diys, The raven with the pearl necklace, in the last tablescape, really caught my eye. 😍
On the skull, I'd try mod podging tissue paper and then just painting over it with a semi gloss white then a final coat or two of translucent opally metallic gloss
I did just that. I made sure the white tissue paper was on the crinkly side and gave it an all over light top coat of more Podge to make sure the folded bits were glued down well. My objective was for larger folds instead of all over crinkles. Once dry, I gave it a dry brush coat of grey to accent all the creased bits. My iridescent pearl coat went over top. I think your idea looks more like actual shells because it's got more flat angles and breaks rather than the all over smoothed lump texture the drywall compound created.
The skulls I love. The snake sculpture is my fav. The process you went through to make it is inspiring. Including getting foil paper stuck to you, which reminded me of the videos where cats encounter foil on the counter or tape stuck on a paw.😂
You are just incredible! I always enjoy watching folks make these dupes, and even though they are so creative they often turn out a little…well…cheap looking to me. You, however, have such an eye for really beautiful pieces and then are so brave to take it on!! I saw that wreath and thought “no way! There are some things you just can’t diy dupe.” BUT YOU DID IT! You NAILED it!! You are some sort of twisted genius and I just love it! Thanks so much for brilliant, quirky, ambitious videos. They really inspire me. Also, the snake is WAY better sculpted with metal cast look than a spray painted rubber snake. Those are the details that make your stuff look expensive. Even though the material dollars are low, the time and originality make these expensive pieces. You have to love the craft.
I love all of these projects. You 'picked' (haha) the perfect flowers for the skull vase. If I were to use any of these in my home it would probably be the wreath and the snake. However, I don't decorate much for Halloween because I then have to find someplace to put them after Halloween (other holidays as well) and I have no space. So, I really enjoy others' decorations.
Regarding the wreath, if you added scrubber yarn, it'd give you a better 'dangle' look, similar to the original wreath. Apparently people use this scrubby yarn for making dish scrubbers. It came in black so it'd be perfect.
For the first wreath as I know it’s a dupe but it would be really cute with purple lights behind it. Like attack purple lights to the back and maybe add bat sharks to the front
Forgot to mention how funny. Loved your need to make your gold clay snake "realistic!" You're such a good. A goober after mine own heart. I'm a seventy three year old goober, myself
Oh yes definitely love this video. My daughter & I went into Pottery Barn a few days ago and WOW the prices on the very few Halloween items was unbelievable!
Love all of them hard to decide. But skull flowers & the wreath I love also. If not this year next year I will make it. You're so creative Dani love all your videos.
Excellent inspiration! Now I'm a very low budget gal and I want to dupe that wreath for even less$$ haha! If your Mom's property had juniper, it probably has grape vines. Easy to make garlands and wreaths galore for free! Off to forage!! Oh and the skull vase...love it!
Your amazeballs my dear!! Your creativity, attention to detail, personality and whole vibe are such a pleasure to watch and learn from!! Love ya babe!!
Darn..wish I would have grabbed a bunch of Spanish moss that was hanging in the trees at a plantation we visited in Charleston. The moss would have been perfect for that wreath. Your Juniper one was awesome!
I live 45 miles from the Canadian border and used to go at least a couple times a year but since 9/11 you need a passport but now I renewed mine so I've got to get my butt back up there and spend my dollars! Back in the 1980s all you wonderful Canadians came to my small town because the exchange was far in your favor, now it's the other way around! Thanks for all the great ideas neighbor!
Every time I use spray paint even after having days or weeks to dry it always comes off on my hands and anything else it touches. How Dannie managed to spray paint that wreath and hang it up without staining her white walls is the true Halloween black magic.
"Snakey texture" 😂 Scales love. The word you're looking for is scaled. Seriously beautiful job though- i may actually do this and use it year round (I'm a nerd for reptiles
For the wreath: If you use hot glue instead of the super glue and accelerator (SG & A), you can have a similar time save and cost less than the SG & A. Also, the wisps of hot glue that get stuck to the greenery can add a layer of faux cobweb to up the spooky. They also sell similar wreaths at The Dollar Tree here in the US or even just a wire wreath that is 18" or 45.7 cm. Snake Votive: Dollar Tree for glass, aluminum foil, floral wire both thick and thin, mini hot glue sticks, and black acrylic paint that can be thinned with water to create a wash $7.50. Total: $27.36 USD or $37.18 CAD Skull: Dollar Tree for 1 skull, 5 floral stems and 1 pack sand paper $8.75 USD. Home Depot for Patch-N-Paint 32 oz. Premium-Grade Lightweight Spackling $10.58, Hobby Lobby silver metal leafing (25 sheets at 5.5x5.5 in or 13.97x13.97 cm size) $3.49, and Metal Leaf adhesive, $4.99. Alternative: Rub 'N Buff $6.49, DecoArt Enchanted Shimmer Acrylic Paint $2.59. Total: $28.41 to $30.49USD or $38.61 to $41.44 CAD.
@@DIYDanie The snake votive definitely. Maybe on the skull because you can't have too many skulls. I already have a wreath I like but may add some dangly bits to it.
I like your wreath better. And that snake is really clever! I'd have spray painted a rubber snake, LOL! Both those skulls are brilliant. If I could give you three thumbs up, I would.
Hi Danie! I just was scrolling by and seen your video! So cool! As a scrapbooker, creating is in my DNA lol. So I love that you are recreating some very expensive decor, can't wait for Christmas! My favorite holiday.

I’m pretty sure she chose the foiling because it would add to the pearlescent vibe.
My first thought on the snake was that you’d buy a cheap toy snake and spraypaint maybe some wire. They are like $2
I like that idea. It would have been a lot cheaper than the apoxy.
My first thought too!
It might look better too, actually says sculpting requires skills that not everyone has.
I thought the same
Me too!
I would have kept the snake separated from the glass, in order to clean it more easily in between candles. These are all soo cute!! Love it
I thought the sticky fingers was hilarious but the howling duo with Kenobi made me truly laugh out loud
These are fantastic dupes. And the Kenobi "NOOOOOOOO!!!" was my favorite bit of the whole video.
Same! :-)
Me too
I love that you factor in all of your cost, including things that you already have on hand, but I do think realistically those items last for many many different projects and people who DIY tend to make many projects, so I think you actually did way better than your "savings" were, all of these turned out so well and I'm definitely making the snake candle holder and the skull!
Also...a skull with a flower crown...oh he would be so precious!
You are so creative and patient! I would have bought a rubber snake…sprayed painted and glued to glass…LOL Everything turned out great!
I was thinking the exact same thing! Lol
Exactly what I thought too once she pulled out clay 😮
Danie we need a redo on the snake. with a ruber one. u can glue wire underneath to give it a stronger stand.
*Snake Hurricane* . Wondering if one could use a rubber snake and glass cylinder vase from Dollar tree. Gold spray paint, E-6000, painters tape/toothpicks for spacing to hold snake in place while it dries?
The Dani/Kanobe duet just made my day!!

That was my first thought! Tissue paper, mod podge, and Pearlescent spray paint!
I did exactly the same, tissue paper & mod podge works great. A bit messy, but lots of fun experimenting.
that pronunciation of buchanan at 12:26 killed me 😭i was an art attack kid so loved neil buchanan lol
This is an art attack. THIS is an art attack. THIS IS…ART ATTACK!
I was looking for this comment! 🤣 b[you]can-an not butch-ahann.
@@DIYDanie side note i would pay good money to hear your attempt at a scouse accent
Kenobi singing with you was the BEST! 🥰❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
i would have gotten gold spray paint and done a rubber snake from the dollar store. added a bit of wire clothes hanger in the head part.
Rediscovering my love of crafting and generally mucking-about having recently started to remember what it is to be myself following 2 (wonderful) kids. Love them! I found a rubber snake at Goodwill. I wonder if there would be a way to use that to make the candle holder.
I think the benefit to DIY’ing the snake vase is that you can get whatever size vase you want.
I love the wreath and want my own now! As for the snake, next time you try something similar, I would suggest using polymer clay. That juniper wreath has to smell AMAZING! I love the smell of fresh juniper. Even if it only lasts a year it was a good project to try!
okay but Danie can you tell us where you got your black/white/orange sweater from, because that's the perfect Halloween vibe
Omg it’s from Walmart! No lie!!!! Comes in two colours!
Was gonna ask the same! Love it!
My favorite is the pearlescent skull vase. I don’t even like skulls or go much for Halloween decorations, but this idea is so good.
So much FUNNNNN! I loved all three of your projects but I have to admit the skull "flower vase" was a total winner! ...but so was the wreath...and the snake...lol
Could you use a rubber snake and spray paint it gold before gluing on?
Sure! Why not!
That’s what I always thinking. Because my ability to make a snake look realistic is…nonexistent!
Brilliant! My fav were the skulls. The ONLY thing missing is having the faux flowers sprayed black on the second skull.
Ever!
I just love that skull flower head. Well done. Both turned out great, but the flowers add that extra touch.
I loved these. I am not usually a skull fan but the pearlescent ones you created were amazing!!
Love that the wreath is made from natural materials and not plastic. Great idea, great execution, great realization.
I love the iridescent skull with the flowers coming out of it. It's so pretty!

Gimme the flowerpot skull, please! But with marigolds. So Día de Muertos! Love this, Danie.
