  • As salaam alaikum guys! Whats up! welcome back to another video!! In today's video, I wanted to dedicate it to first time hijabis/beginner hijabis who have just recently decided to wear the hijab mashallah. There are so many hijab tutorials out there but I feel like theres next to no videos that specifically touch on the BASICS of wearing a hijab like when is the best time to start wearing hijab, how to pin a hijab, how to prevent the hijab from moving, what is under the hijab - how to do your underscarf or how to use a volumizing scrunchie... AND ALL THAT KIND OF STUFF.....so that inspired me to make this video :)
    I really hope this video will help you all! when I first started to wear the hijab, Alhamdulillah I had 2 very good friends who also wore the hijab so they really helped me and taught me how to wear it and all the hijabi101 tips and tricks! Sadly, I know that that is not the case for everybody - especially for muslim converts who do not know other muslims. But inshallah this video will help you in some way and you can also DM me on instagram if you need to talk :)

    ABOUT ME:
    Hey guys welcome to my channel! My name is Samantha but you can call me Sam and I am a newly wed/ med student/ muslim convert. I converted to Islam in August 2015 and I put my story up on youtube shortly after I told my parents about my reversion to Islam. The video got a lot of attention from other reverts looking for support and just people in general so I continued this channel to document my journey.
    Speaking of journeys... I also started my journey in medicine as I got into Med School on April 2018! It's a long road ahead and its only gonna get harder from here but I thought I would share my experience in Med School as it might help other aspiring doctors out there! Hope you stick around and subscribe so we can go through this journey together!
    How I film my UA-cam Videos:
    ♥ What camera do you use to film UA-cam videos? I film my normal videos using the Canon 700D with the twin lens kit and Canon sx610 for vlogs

    I started wearing the hijab because of all the things going on (like Trump and all the discrimination) because I wanted to show that I am proud to be Muslim even tho all these things are happening and I wanted to show that even if people might treat me different from my hijab I would still wear it and be proud. But surprisingly none of my friends really treated me different and they still accepted me. Inshallah for all of you who are starting it will be easy for you. ❤️

    I found the perfect item for summer hijab! Stretch lace undercaps in lots of colors, so good looking you want to have some peeking out in front! I tested the lace with chiffon and gauze in 105°F heat! Passed with flying colors!
    Chiffon needs an undercap to protect your hair so the lace is perfect! I still use a pin with a safety cap to anchor it all to my bun scrunchy. Stays all day.

The first time I ever wore a hijab out after converting, I wore a thick pashmina scarf! - during summer btw 😂😂 - try the chiffon scarves with a loose style to prevent the cloth from sticking to your neck or face and let airflow in. To this day, I cannot do the tight scarf styles - I get a headache just looking at them haha! And dresses are a lifesaver! H&M has some beautiful lightweight dresses that are long sleeved!

      Mariam H. I had the same issue as yours. I had agreed upon initially that there wasn't really a verse about the hijab. But then i realized how some Muslims had commented about Mother Mary wearing a veil. And I did more google search on the verses in Surah Nur... and found the word "khimar" and understood it well. See the thing is... the women during those times were already wearing a veil or headscarf i shall say, but it only went to the back without really covering their necks and their front. So It makes sense to me that verse says to take the ends of the headscarf to the front ( basically the correct hijab we wear nowadays) .This site
      Islamqa.info explains it well. I suggest you to read from it and think again . And also wish me the best because I will start wearing the hijab this week( my mum is quite against it tho my dad supports me)
      As a believer remember that we hear and obey Allah's commands.
      Asalamu Alaikum sister

    • @samantha.mariam
      @samantha.mariam  5 років тому +9

      Mariam H. Sorry for such a late reply! I’m only going through my comments now! But the two sisters above basically explains my stance well. The Quran refers to it as Khimar which is a head covering and it’s asking us to drape our head cover over our chest to cover that region with our scarf/khimar.
      I’ve seen the videos you’re referring to as well and I was almost convinced too until I realised that the Surah would make no sense if it was asking us to randomly just drape the scarf over our breast like a bandeau instead of our head. That’s when I researched it a bit more and yea, it seems like the misinterpretation is down to the translation from arabic to English as khimar doesn’t just mean scarf but rather a garment specifically put on women’s heads. Then if you look at the history and the fashion at the time, women did wear like a “wedding veil” where everything is at the back and nothing covers the front.
      But with everything, verify it for yourself too love and make a decision on what you are ready to do 😊
      Hope everyone is having a great Ramadan ❤️

    This is so so helpful. I’m Pagan (a different religion) and sometimes we wear headscarves styled similarly to hijabs. Normally I only wear mine during my religious practices for short periods of time, but have recently started wearing my veil more full time. It’s incredibly comforting to me, and I started feeling really drained and exposed without it on. The veils I have currently are pretty thick and can feel kinda stuffy around my neck after wearing them for a while. I’ve been looking into different materials for scarves and was hoping I could get your recommendation. Ive been debating between chiffon and cotton crinkle scarves. Are chiffon scarves soft? I have super sensitive skin, and sometimes polyester scarves can be super scratchy and rough on my skin. I really love the look of chiffon hijabs, they’re so beautiful and silky, but I’m nervous they won’t be soft enough. What do you recommend?

      By the way how is your wearing style, is it similar to Muslims or different. I really wonder 😊

    • @rowansage5159

      @@eliffvegunes uh, it depends! There are many different kinds of paganism, kind of like how there are different sects in Islam, or different branches in Christianity. Different pagans have different beliefs and adapt the way they wear their veil (headscarf) to best accommodate their beliefs since we don’t have one specific way to wear a veil! For me, I’m a Celtic Pagan, and have a few beliefs regarding my veil, some are quite ancient beliefs. The big one for me is that our ancestors believed that one’s soul resides inside the head, and that our hair is a sacred extension of our soul. So, many of us wear veils (men and women) as a way of protecting our head and hair, and so our soul. Even among fellow Celtic Pagans, we all wear our veils slightly differently, if we choose to wear one at all! there’s no obligation to wear a veil if one doesn’t want to, but many choose to when they pray or on certain holidays! I like to cover as much of my hair as possible, which I can do with a variety of styles and materials. Somedays, when I’m lazy, I’ll just tuck my hair up into a beanie or hat. But, when I like to get all dressed up, I’ll wear an undercap that covered my hair neck completely, drape my veil overtop, and toss the ends over my shoulders. It resembles a very loose and flowy hijab style a lot of the time if that makes sense! I find that my veil makes me feel safe, and soothes me when I’m stressed out or anxious. It makes me feel grounded and connected to my beliefs and ancestors on a deeper level. It’s not a symbol of modesty for me, so I don’t have a specific attire that goes with my veil, but I already dress pretty modestly anyways with long pants and long sleeve shirts or sweaters :)

    I think I commented once about I will wear hijab this year but anyway. Thank god I got green light from my mum this year. I tried to persuade her to let me wear it although our family is actually a mixed religion family. So, I started wearing hijab already around 20th January 2021. Alhamdullillah.
    So far, I am still working from home. So, I am not sure if there will be any changes of interaction or perspective from my colleagues and bosses. However, I will try to stay strong and keep on believing that whatever happens must be a reason and if anything goes wrong, Allah S.W.T will open another way for me. If not now, when will be the perfect time? So, I chose to wear it now. There will be no perfect or right time unless I wear when I am sure of my decision.
    P/S: I already started wearing loose clothes long time ago even before hijab. However, I am updating my long sleeves clothes gradually.

    • @samantha.mariam
      @samantha.mariam  5 років тому +3

      panda kwii it’s not stupid at all. The first week I wore it, I had to go to a makeup event and then to work where both places expected me to look like my “old self”. It’s human nature to feel nervous but just give people time to adjust to your new look. When they ask you why you’re wearing it, just explain that you’re muslim and it’s part of the religion so you made the decision to wear it. May Allah make it easy for you Inshallah ❤️

    Hi, thank you for this video very helpful!
    I am pretty new to wearing hijab and literally only have one scarf, it’s just a normal scarf. Hehe
    But I had a question. Since I’ve been home I’ve taken showers and let my hair dry naturally. But I know when the semester starts back up my mornings are going to be hectic. There are mornings where I HAVE to take showers right before leaving and style it in a tight bun and I’ve noticed at the end of the day it’s still pretty damp when I take it out of the bun. So my question is, do you have any issues with wearing hijab with wet hair? Or any tips wearing it with wet hair? Like have you done it before and it’s made your hijab visibly wet? Like do you recommend a certain material for this over another, etc.?
    Thank you so much, anything will help !

      Thank you Sam for replying to my comment. I have been looking at revert stories on you tube and came across your channel and Paris Amelia's. Love you both. My favourite colour is purple and bought two viscose scarfs which are plain. My hair is so slippy so I will need a hair band or something to keep my crazy hair contained. I think maybe the day I go to mosque I will try wearing scarf travelling to and from it. I have two Muslim sisters at uni that are helping me and were there when I said Shahah.

      Explain to your parents what Islam is realy about. I reccomend watching Samantha J Boyle and nafisa Pearlz. They are very informative and use the quran as there only source. In regards to being bullied this is only a temporary life our reward comes in the after life those people bullying you will not get a reward as great as you. Wish you the best 👍😊

      JustMargieMe congrats on deciding to wear the hijab! It is such a big step! So proud of you sister!! My tip for you is to just be confident in your decision. It may be a bit uncomfortable at first because you will think that everyone is looking at your hijab but don’t let it get to you. Just remember you are doing nothing wrong. You have the right to wear what you want just like any other person. And most of all, you are doing it because of the love you have towards our God and that is a beautiful thing ❤️
