They don’t hunt in packs but sometimes in loose aggregations of two or three. I saw two take on a large goanna. I always see them on Fraser Is and other than with pups they’ve been solitary. In Croajingalong national park I could hear many howling at night but when raiding the Tern’s nests below the dunes they’ve always been solitary too.

It's not just feral pigs they help control, the also help keep the populations of introduced mice, rabbits, foxes and most importantly feral cats in line. The Dingo may not have originally come from Australia, but being the country's apex predator for thousands of years has made them important members of Australia's ecosystem and if they disappear all of Austraila is in serious ecological trouble.

If you shoot the lactating sow, you remove a vector of reproduction, and your dingos should be able to snap up the little piglet/ shoats, which do not have those razor tusks to defend themselves yet. This is a strategy in Texas and the south of the USA, where our coyotes and feral dogs and maybe a few cougars eat the tender snack. Your feral sow's meat is more tender than the boar, have a nice barbecue. There are videos on UA-cam and Rumble for butchering and preserving the meat. Happy hunting.🙂

In central Texas, I've noticed that the local coyote band seem to often be in proximity to the sounders of hogs that are tearing the place up. I rarely see a sow with more than one or two young at a time, although they normally have 6-8 per litter. I would surprised if the coyotes are not separating the youngsters and enjoying some bacon.
Obviously, it's not enough pressure to control the population, but every dead hog is a bonus. As easy as it is for Livestock Guardians Dogs to deter coyotes, I figure the coyotes are a net benefit, as they are removing plenty of pests.

Yes, Dingo's are different than truly domesticated dogs but we've seen breeds like the Dogo Argentino, American Bulldog, American Pitbull Terrier, Boerboel, etc., all get hurt badly by feral hogs. It just seems like the hogs could have done a much better job against one, single Dingo. Perhaps, the behavior of Australian feral hogs are a bit different than feral hogs in other places. The sows are the vectors of feral pig population, here in Texas, USA I go first for the alpha sow. If I am hunting with a bow or crossbow, I grease the shaft and try to line up two, one behind the other, and get two. It works about half the time. Then I invite the neighbors and we have a big barbecue. The family dogs eat well, too. Here in Texas we can hunt with no bag limits, year around. The general state hunting license is about $100 (I don't know what your exchange rate is.). You need the permission of the property owner, but in east and south Texas where the more productive agriculture is, they almost always give permission because the pigs are such a terrible problem. We also have ground nesting birds we have to protect. You probably do, too.
Finally, it is legal to hunt or trap feral pigs over bait. Corn (maize)works, some fisheads will draw them from far away.

Maybe maybe not? More research required whatever Australia needs it's apex predators to control cats, foxes et al., Interestingly Dingo's don't chase cows often as they don't run but sheep, like foxes in a chicken house they go 'berzerk' become highly aroused when prey runs like most hunters.
Combo of the 'trophic cascade ' dingo's and herd protection animals such as dog (expensive), donkey, llama and goat way cheaper will probably work best in the future? Just remembered feral goats way more profitable than sheep now so maybe change your stock animals? Floods, lack of water, soil erosion, poor oxygen, predators etc., etc., etc., nature and her natural systems that we have displaced have the answer. We do not require virus's and guns! Enjoy.

Twice I have seen the same of a dingo harassing a sound of pigs to isolate a young pig and once of a pack of dingoes in a coordinated attack to isolate young ones by some attacking the dominant pigs and the others flanking to catch small pigs. For the small number of calves taken by dingoes is far outweighed by the larger number of young pigs taken and keeping them in some form of check. When dingoes are targeted by graziers the pig numbers explode in that area.

I live and work in a remote Aboriginal community in Central Australia (APY Lands). As you may or may not know people many Aboriginal communities keep a large amount of dogs, generally all of which being Dingo/Dog hybrids.
From what I have witnessed in Central Australia, I can tell you the Dingo and the Dog are very different animals. Dogs, both pet and feral seek out human habitations and human interactions and in Central Australian Aboriginal community very very rarely leave the community area without being accompanied by humans or encouraged by nearby rubbish tips, with their limit being about a kilometre or two from these areas. Dingoes on the other hand are completely wild animal, which have perfectly evolved to thrive in the bush far far away from humans and our 'services'. Dingoes never come into communities with the sole exceptions being during extreme droughts and when a female Dingo/Dog hybrid is on heat while wandering on the edge of community.
Unfortunately most 'Dingoes' remaining in Australia do have some degree of Dog (canis lupus familiaris) dna, but I can tell you in Central Australia most Dingoes are 'Dingoes' and those 'hybrids' able to function in the wild must only be those with very little dog dna as 'dogs' simply struggle to survive in the bush and prefer to seek out the comfort of human habitations.

Too many naive viewers taking this video as proof of thier fantasies of a nobel dingo controlling ferals. Whilst they play some small role in feral predation, they take more lizards and frogs than they do rabbits and certainly cats. Feral cats are extremely capable of defending themselves from dogs.
Dingo's like most canines are opportunistic in thier feeding. They most often take whats easy. They dont hunt anywhere near as much as people think esp any prey that takes greater effort. One good reason why this footage is extremely rare.
