I honestly can't understand why we Aussies don't eat more camel meat, it's the nicest meat after venison you will ever eat. Also we should be eating more Roo meat as well, it's a little gamey but healthy red meat.

I tried camel meat once when I was in Jordan. Honestly, the best tasting meat I'd ever had. The flavour was unreal and the texture buttery and tender. Huge potential export market here.

That makes so much sense it’ll never happen haha. I’ve had camel quite a few times, works well in a curry or well spiced but as a steak or a joint I’ll stick to beef !
You can't just force a market / demand. Are you proposing a law to force cattle farmers who have been doing this for generations to sell their stock and take up camel farming? And are you proposing a law to force people to eat camel meat? Who would ever be able to get laws this ridiculous passed? And if you propose to "encourage" the market, the people in this vid have already been trying unsuccessfully.
King Billy its the best scotch fillet you’ll ever chomp on other than venison! Minced up makes really nice burger paddy’s, haven’t tried it as a sausage yet though. Make sure you try it if you can get it from your local butcher you won’t be disappointed
I’ve always wondered why Australian meat ranchers didn’t fully transition away from cattle. Camel are made for that environment even in the worst of times.

Australia has the largest Muslim neighbors in Southeast Asia, and they never eat a slice of camel meat, because they are not living in the desert. It would be best if you start to export the meat, you have the Country's income and we have the meat. Cattle meat price is high recently, so we must find other solutions, diversity meat is the only solution.
There has to be a market for the meat at the very least. Put the abattoirs on transport trucks and bring them to the remote feral herds. Freeze the meat and transport it to markets in reefer vans packed to the roof. Even if the leather, milk and other markets are slow to develop, it will rein in the uncontrolled growth of an invasive animals. The meat can be fed to dogs or zoos or as protein for farmed fish or whatever people prefer to eat. I'm pretty sure it'd make a decent grilled burger too.
You would think , but the country is so vast and infrastructure in such greatness is very expensive , yards , fridges , helicopters , personal , trucking and the list goes on .
Just to put harvesting into prospection. To shoot a rabbit, the professional must be fully licensed, his vehicle, his firearms and his on site coolrooms licensed and inspected annually and the shooter must hold a competency certificate and have completed a course in meat handling. Then additional licensed transport is required. When the humble rabbit is delivered to, again a licensed Game Meat Processor, this company is audited quarterly and a specific meat inspector employed. For camels the isolation of the area and the cost of transport together with the somewhat small quantity of edible meat, makes the whole scenario uneconomical.

Most aussies are to narrow minded to even consider the idea of kangaroo meat, we need to educate the young to change the perceptions so far more practical animals than cows can become our primary source of meat. I hardly eat any beef now and when I do I find it inferior to kangaroo..

I'm from the western thar desert state Rajasthan (India). We love our camels so much. We adore them and we had never eaten them as meat. Came Has been and is now also part of our farming culture and we love breeding and caring camels. Our State government had passed a bill to counter and stop the alarming rate of decreasing of camels in India. We honoured it by passing an anti hunting bill in rajasthan and declaring it as a state animal in domestic category. We had always been friendly to our animals and our animals care too much about our people living there.
Camels are worth around 1000 USD per head in the ME. When do we learn to use our resources that others would dream of rather than trashing it? The key is to have a land near a port that collects the ongoing animals which are caught from the outback, keeping them and feed them to reach certain number to be ready for shipping/slaughtering. Another helping technology would be design of the trucks, tall enough to maintain two layers of camels alive although even one story would be fine. Having camels as our product means the ongoing problem with drought would be meaningless. I see a day cattle stations that would have a mixture of cattle and camel heard or goat and camel. When do we want to learn to grow what is suitable for our climate, we are not in Europe anymore. If we Australians are incapable of harvesting this treasure, allow Chinese and Arab companies come and solve the problem and bring money and jobs. This will create a lot of jobs for rural area particularly in indigenous communities.
Indigenous wont work and the Camels will have to be commercially farmed not caught from the wild and you make a very interesting point on Transport and logistics

Camels could also be sold for domestic market particularly for Halal shops as well as IGA, pet food and other purposes.

The reason that it is not widely used for human consumption is that it doesnt have a taste that most people enjoy. Camel is not like that. It has been being used by human probably longer than cow meat and it has its fans in many countries in the world. 2. The camels in Australia have higher value than other camels in the world because they are disease free and also never been treated by medicine nor grain fed (organic meat). 3. As I described we need farm area to collect the coming animals and build up numbers and size before putting them in the ship. Same is being done in other live animal export.

@@17hmr243 i believe the semi autos available to primary producers are rimfire rifles only or pump/semi auto shotguns with a max capacity of 5 rounds. Probably not much use for camels. Cat d contract shooters can own semi auto rifles of decent calibre.
Shame this story didn't have a bit more of a balanced point of view. The Invasive Species Council say it well: _"A prominent problem is that creating a market engenders pressure to maintain that problematic species.’ Evidence from around the world confirms that the creation of markets for pests seldom reduces pest problems and often becomes counterproductive."_ So basically If camel farming did go ahead, infrastructure was set up, jobs filled etc, are all those invested going to be happy once the feral problem & supply dries up or are they going to take a few, release a few to keep the wild stocks up as has happened in other countries? "You can't shoot a problem away" - hmmm the Tasmanian Tigers disagree. I think we just need to get our a**'s into gear with multiple, science based approaches like we are with other invasive species.
I think many fail to understand that where most of the camels are, there are basically no people, no roads or cattle stations. Hence it’s extremely difficult to do anything useful with them.
Throwing reality into the equation will be a bit much for some to grasp. Logistics of dealing with meat for human consumption hygienically and the quality assurance procedures needed make actual costs high. And commercial harvest is not a solution to control: as populations are reduced towards what might be more acceptable damage levels the costs go up. And so instead of control you get exploitation and protection of population levels that are commercially viable. It does seem that a well organised and resourced (would be expensive) program could eradicate them. This may be optimistic, as habits and habitat use are distant from personal experience. But they are big slugs in open country, and very vulnerable to aerial shooting. Would seem to be a case of identifying the water points, working from the distribution fringe inwards. There seems little excuse for not getting everything encountered unless they have some way of hiding. Opinions why that would be impractical would be interesting (the situation is unfamiliar & speculation can be unrealistic)
Here in Texas we have a huge feral hog problem I couldn’t imagine if they were the size of these camels , we feel u Australia we really understand ur problems, but like us here u will never shoot enough of them .
Estimates are between 17 and 20 million feral pigs in OZ ,it’s not that hard to shoot 100 per day in the right place on the western river systems of nsw
Great idea. Get the needy countries to pay for rounding them up(no infrastructure for that), transport them 1000s of kilometres to port, then ship to needy countries. A question for you, who pays?

Get yourself some migrant workers to commercialize wool/milk/meat and it will create an industry to support the high cost of transport all you need to create are distribution hubs to ease logistics this is a matter of perspective and the country will remove all of this problem.
Did you watch the video? Some of them have been used for meat and milk but it's not as profitable as cattle because there's barely any market for them and they don't produce a lot of milk when compared to cattle.

Look at all the comments saying they are interested in a camel meat market. You can't just wait for a high demand to occur out of thin air. YOU NEED TO ADVERTISE. To me, the most realistic and least likely to fail is starting a raw camel meat and organs company for the pet industry. The demand for raw meat products is getting higher by the year. This is a much more viable option than marketing for human consumption. Dogs, cats and ferrets need to eat large amounts of meat to stay healthy, whereas for humans meat is a small portion of their diet.
Not gonna lie, just watching this is making me hungry. I know it's suppose to be a serious problem, but all I can think about is food. Though venison is still my number one favorite meat.
I as a kid lived on only camel milk for two straight months without water or anything else. As my system was withdrawing from sugar and every other chemicals..it was torture to get used it from the 1st two weeks. But all of sudden magic happened. As my system cleansed fron sugar I honestly cannot explain how sweet milk became. You see every camel is different and unique respect how their milk tests. Some are little creamy, some little sweat. Your stool becomes like water every time primarily because there is nothing else on your guts and you become clean inside out. Your skin becomes like realy brownish and you amazing health in over all. Its like you are trained as a Olympic athlete and you became into your full potential. I remember at that whenever I think about sugar, rice and the other I used to eat it was like I want to draw up and never go back to it. But when we come to the villages of course processed food was unavoidable. Give it one straight month with nothing but a camel milk and force yourself to it. And drink a lot every chance you get. If are diabetes you will be cured. That i know i for sure.
That’s wild when I was kid in America I would always joke about eating camel butter but I never knew it was actually something you could eat, let alone be healthy for you.
@@toemasmeems I am talking from experience. Camels are very picky plant eaters, first they smell the plants and and unlike like cows and most animals they ignore a whole lot of plants.
If the were using Allan Savory's grazing method, there would be plenty of forage and regeneration of the landscape. Camels aren't the problem, management and the lack of predators which would cause better movement of the herds. Moving herds would reduce overgrazing and damage.
Landscapes have carrying capacity, & invasive pests pay little attention to that until they have severely modified it. Some of the worlds deserts are tribute to goats and cattle as invasive pests overgrazing.

Australia has been plagued by a lot of these exotic species brought in to help but now they are chopping off supplies in an already scarce environment. Our forefathers have done a lot of things we are paying dearly now. I'm scared of what we have done to our grandchildren too
They should find a way to use there 🐫 camel fiber for clothing in that country. Someone can market that fiber for spinners and weavers. Camel fiber would think to sell very well there to help people cooler in hot summers and warm in their winter seasons. Please someone look in to it as a clothing market 🙏.
people who keep saying “why dont they export them or sell the meat???” need to think of the logistics. camels are 1800 pound animals that live in completely undeveloped areas of the country with zero road access or infrastructure. can you imagine the nightmare that would be dragging these giant carcasses out by the hundreds, transporting them (with a refrigerated truck) to an inspected facility to be butchered, which would require year round employees, all within a couple hours to prevent meat spoilage? and then having all this meat shipped via ground, through the outback with no roads, to cities hundreds of miles away to be sold? or the alternative, which is rounding up the camels (dangerous and far more labor intensive than shooting them) and having the facilities like stockyards contain and then have transport trucks to take them to an abattoir which again, will have to be hours away? none of this is remotely feasible, just ridiculously expensive and a greater waste of resources.
Camel milk is very nutricious as opposed to cow milk , their milk has no lactose full of vitamins and overall very good , their meat is very nice we grind it and grill it into small sandwiches or gourmet stuffed stomachs that are boiled
So they brought them from Arabia.. Why you're not sending them back to us? They're expensive here in the UAE and we love camel meat.. It's low in cholesterol and have healthy fats

But how do you ship a camel out of the desert? The truck he rides can carry maybe one and after hours driving back to base the meat might be rotten already. Helicopter it out sound allright but still that is one or two camels per ride. Huge costs and little money to be made. Wastefull, yes, but do you have a solution?
The issue with trying to make a camel market is that most of the camels are so far into the outback that it literally takes days to drive to civilization. So attempting to transport the meat simply isn’t profitable or viable for the cattle ranchers who live out there. Most of those folks have a tiny airstrip and a Cessna plane that they use to buy food and produce.

In Pakistan one camel cost around 2 to 3 thousand dollars and we are a poor country. At the beginning of video he wasted 100 thousand right there 😭😭😭

I tried camel meat once when I was in Jordan. Honestly, the best tasting meat I'd ever had. The flavour was unreal and the texture buttery and tender. Huge potential export market here.

King Billy its the best scotch fillet you’ll ever chomp on other than venison! Minced up makes really nice burger paddy’s, haven’t tried it as a sausage yet though. Make sure you try it if you can get it from your local butcher you won’t be disappointed

There has to be a market for the meat at the very least. Put the abattoirs on transport trucks and bring them to the remote feral herds. Freeze the meat and transport it to markets in reefer vans packed to the roof. Even if the leather, milk and other markets are slow to develop, it will rein in the uncontrolled growth of an invasive animals.
The meat can be fed to dogs or zoos or as protein for farmed fish or whatever people prefer to eat. I'm pretty sure it'd make a decent grilled burger too.

You would think , but the country is so vast and infrastructure in such greatness is very expensive , yards , fridges , helicopters , personal , trucking and the list goes on .
They also have feral cats, horses, water buffaloes, and hogs. Hogs are far worse and more dangerous than camels.

To shoot a rabbit, the professional must be fully licensed, his vehicle, his firearms and his on site coolrooms licensed and inspected annually and the shooter must hold a competency certificate and have completed a course in meat handling. Then additional licensed transport is required. When the humble rabbit is delivered to, again a licensed Game Meat Processor, this company is audited quarterly and a specific meat inspector employed. For camels the isolation of the area and the cost of transport together with the somewhat small quantity of edible meat, makes the whole scenario uneconomical.
LOGISTICAL NIGHTMARE/IMPOSSIBILITY is what should be resoundingly obvious to anyone trying to commercialize them.

I'm from the western thar desert state Rajasthan (India). We love our camels so much. We adore them and we had never eaten them as meat. Came Has been and is now also part of our farming culture and we love breeding and caring camels. Our State government had passed a bill to counter and stop the alarming rate of decreasing of camels in India. We honoured it by passing an anti hunting bill in rajasthan and declaring it as a state animal in domestic category. We had always been friendly to our animals and our animals care too much about our people living there.

When do we learn to use our resources that others would dream of rather than trashing it?
The key is to have a land near a port that collects the ongoing animals which are caught from the outback, keeping them and feed them to reach certain number to be ready for shipping/slaughtering.
Another helping technology would be design of the trucks, tall enough to maintain two layers of camels alive although even one story would be fine. Having camels as our product means the ongoing problem with drought would be meaningless. I see a day cattle stations that would have a mixture of cattle and camel heard or goat and camel. When do we want to learn to grow what is suitable for our climate, we are not in Europe anymore.
If we Australians are incapable of harvesting this treasure, allow Chinese and Arab companies come and solve the problem and bring money and jobs. This will create a lot of jobs for rural area particularly in indigenous communities.

Camels could also be sold for domestic market particularly for Halal shops as well as IGA, pet food and other purposes.

The reason that it is not widely used for human consumption is that it doesnt have a taste that most people enjoy. Camel is not like that. The camels in Australia have higher value than other camels in the world because they are disease free and also never been treated by medicine nor grain fed (organic meat). 3. As I described we need farm area to collect the coming animals and build up numbers and size before putting them in the ship. Same is being done in other live animal export.

Shame this story didn't have a bit more of a balanced point of view. The Invasive Species Council say it well: _"A prominent problem is that creating a market engenders pressure to maintain that problematic species.’ Evidence from around the world confirms that the creation of markets for pests seldom reduces pest problems and often becomes counterproductive."_ So basically If camel farming did go ahead, infrastructure was set up, jobs filled etc, are all those invested going to be happy once the feral problem & supply dries up or are they going to take a few, release a few to keep the wild stocks up as has happened in other countries?

Camals are feral pests and are not native to Australia. Forgive me but I don't see another side to this story.
I think many fail to understand that where most of the camels are, there are basically no people, no roads or cattle stations. Hence it’s extremely difficult to do anything useful with them.
Throwing reality into the equation will be a bit much for some to grasp. Logistics of dealing with meat for human consumption hygienically and the quality assurance procedures needed make actual costs high. And commercial harvest is not a solution to control: as populations are reduced towards what might be more acceptable damage levels the costs go up. And so instead of control you get exploitation and protection of population levels that are commercially viable.
It does seem that a well organised and resourced (would be expensive) program could eradicate them. This may be optimistic, as habits and habitat use are distant from personal experience. But they are big slugs in open country, and very vulnerable to aerial shooting.
Would seem to be a case of identifying the water points, working from the distribution fringe inwards. There seems little excuse for not getting everything encountered unless they have some way of hiding. Opinions why that would be impractical would be interesting (the situation is unfamiliar & speculation can be unrealistic)
Here in Texas we have a huge feral hog problem I couldn’t imagine if they were the size of these camels , we feel u Australia we really understand ur problems, but like us here u will never shoot enough of them .

To me, the most realistic and least likely to fail is starting a raw camel meat and organs company for the pet industry. The demand for raw meat products is getting higher by the year. This is a much more viable option than marketing for human consumption. Dogs, cats and ferrets need to eat large amounts of meat to stay healthy, whereas for humans meat is a small portion of their diet.

I as a kid lived on only camel milk for two straight months without water or anything else. As my system was withdrawing from sugar and every other chemicals..it was torture to get used it from the 1st two weeks.
But all of sudden magic happened.
As my system cleansed fron sugar I honestly cannot explain how sweet milk became. You see every camel is different and unique respect how their milk tests. Some are little creamy, some little sweat. Your stool becomes like water every time primarily because there is nothing else on your guts and you become clean inside out.
Your skin becomes like realy brownish and you amazing health in over all.
Its like you are trained as a Olympic athlete and you became into your full potential.
I remember at that whenever I think about sugar, rice and the other I used to eat it was like I want to draw up and never go back to it. But when we come to the villages of course processed food was unavoidable.
Give it one straight month with nothing but a camel milk and force yourself to it. And drink a lot every chance you get.

If the were using Allan Savory's grazing method, there would be plenty of forage and regeneration of the landscape. Camels aren't the problem, management and the lack of predators which would cause better movement of the herds. Moving herds would reduce overgrazing and damage.
Landscapes have carrying capacity, & invasive pests pay little attention to that until they have severely modified it. Some of the worlds deserts are tribute to goats and cattle as invasive pests overgrazing.

people who keep saying “why dont they export them or sell the meat???” need to think of the logistics. camels are 1800 pound animals that live in completely undeveloped areas of the country with zero road access or infrastructure. can you imagine the nightmare that would be dragging these giant carcasses out by the hundreds, transporting them (with a refrigerated truck) to an inspected facility to be butchered, which would require year round employees, all within a couple hours to prevent meat spoilage? and then having all this meat shipped via ground, through the outback with no roads, to cities hundreds of miles away to be sold? or the alternative, which is rounding up the camels (dangerous and far more labor intensive than shooting them) and having the facilities like stockyards contain and then have transport trucks to take them to an abattoir which again, will have to be hours away? none of this is remotely feasible, just ridiculously expensive and a greater waste of resources.

Camel's milk is very nice
Camel milk is very nutricious as opposed to cow milk , their milk has no lactose full of vitamins and overall very good , their meat is very nice we grind it and grill it into small sandwiches or gourmet stuffed stomachs that are boiled

But how do you ship a camel out of the desert? The truck he rides can carry maybe one and after hours driving back to base the meat might be rotten already. Helicopter it out sound allright but still that is one or two camels per ride. Huge costs and little money to be made. Wastefull, yes, but do you have a solution?

The issue with trying to make a camel market is that most of the camels are so far into the outback that it literally takes days to drive to civilization. So attempting to transport the meat simply isn’t profitable or viable for the cattle ranchers who live out there. Most of those folks have a tiny airstrip and a Cessna plane that they use to buy food and produce.
Camels, rabbits, wild dogs, foxes, toads, goats, mice, buffaloes, wild boars, wild cats, Asian carps. . . What's next?
The Australians have a tough battle to fight. . .
I would love to move there and work as camel farm worker
