I have been doing this for just over a year the only equipment I have is a drill press and a mini lathe . I am seeing a lot of techniques that you were demonstrating that I will be parroting and and at least practicing. I do see you using the one to three block checking your tool holder squareness to the chuck, that is something I kind of picked up on in the very beginning but I probably don’t check it often enough. I have learned a lot in one year but unfortunately I am only learning to deal with the limitations of my machine and compensating, which I suppose is still learning, I hope to get a little bigger machine and a milling machine soon. Once again thank you very much for your constant. Kimber
Hi Kevin, A really nice tool... also good to see you using the shaping machine, mill, and lathe. I liked the idea of the 1,2,3 block and the digital protractor. Good luck in the competition. Take care Paul,,
Best video I've seen for a while, plenty of ideas to take away from this one, all in all, bloody brilliant Kevin, must be a contender, All the best, Cliff
Nicely made , many years ago they were sold by tooling dealers. Dont know if there still available but this shows it can be built in the home shop. Thanks
Very well done indeed. I have a commercial version (Veritas/Lee Valley.com) and I use it all the time. It is invaluable for making accurate dividing plates for my homemade dividing head, I use a PostScript computer program to make a template (could use a CAD program) and then optically centerpunch and drill. Bravo!
Love it. Here I am in NZ and never come across your channel, absolutely wonderful to see somebody local making neat stuff with stuff the we can get in NZ. Your latest subscriber :) Happy New Year
Hi Kevin, Really useful tool and very well made ,enjoyed the video ,great stuff , (shame about the handle on the plastic bucket , thought you'd got away with that one ehhh!! ) lol .stay well mate Regards Mike
Gday Kevin, I really enjoyed watching this, you really did a great job, certainly a very handy tool to have, that’s going to have to be a tool I make in the future especially the way my eyes are, good luck mate and take care
Hello NZ! Enjoyed the vid, thanks for the tutorial on making a rope knurl, I would have liked to see the pattern from the first failed try, perhaps it still has some use somewhere. Good luck with the competition, and cheers from Canada!
Awesome looks like it works perfectly Do you have any links to where you found out about lens design? It sounds interesting and not an area that I know anything about
How did you accurately control the focal length (and lack of aberrations) of the lens? in the video you just "had at it" with files, sandpaper, and polishing cloths.
you may JUST have given me the last part of my puzzle. i tried lazers, i tried an endoscope. do you think the acrilic would transmit an image my endoscope can capture??? im questing an electronic (x marks the spot) i wanted red lazer dot .001 in dia, possible but costly. but a cross hair in acrilic AND my endoscope; may be a winner! THANK YOU poppy's workshop says HI
@@Machine_NZ please , i require more input. do you have more footage? i have some lucite rod. im also thinking of buying/ if possible a croshair sight. so much thinking, head hurts! poppy/s workshop says HI
Does this tool suffer from parallax error depending on where your head is relative to the centreline of the tools bore? Nice tool, well made although I would have preferred thinner cross hairs. Good job, well done.
What a nice fun project, very nicley done. Best of luck. Thanks Kevin.
Hi Randy. Thanks for watching. Hows the workshop addition going?
Going well, roof is on.@@Machine_NZ

I never thought of cutting a knurl with a tap! Pretty clever!
I used this method for the filament feeders on 3D printers so thought I'd give it a try on knurling. Regards kevin
Nice one Kevin - I liked the hand turning bit! A bit like wood turning in miniature.
Thanks Craig.
Very good job...like the brass housing

Hi Tom, theres plenty of lens calculators online but I cant remember which one it was now. Thanks for watching
How did you accurately control the focal length (and lack of aberrations) of the lens?
in the video you just "had at it" with files, sandpaper, and polishing cloths.
Would you sell one of these and if so what would it cost? Thank you for sharing the video and awesome work!
Hi. Sorry I don't sell them. Regards kevin
