- Tis the season for a classic anime! Is War in the Pocket a classic? Idk it's old so why not. Currently working my way through the entire Gundam franchise in release order. I'm on Wing and before you ask no I haven't actually seen Witch from Mercury yet. I'll get to it... one day.

Is that a War in your Pocket or are you just happy to see me?
Lmao
Both.

I love war in the pocket wish there was a continuation maybe Alfred when he grows up
@@reeboi4605 Not a bad idea but I think it has the perfect ending already. Anything extra might just ruin what came before
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the ending when they tell Al "don't worry, another war will start soon." So I did both.
And the worst part is, it did, twice.
@@lucasoliveirafrancisco6868 For that time. The war end on 01/01/0080(so it called One Year War). And that colony is the faraway colony which will never see new wars until 0097(Narative).
First neo zeon war, second neo zeon war,the Titans war,at least 10 or more wars in UC gundam universe @@lucasoliveirafrancisco6868
Fun fact: By the time the next war in the UC Gundamverse starts, those kids would be old enough to be drafted to fight in it.
No not Alfred
@@jonathanTheTalo Yes, Alfred will be in a Gundam.
THE PSYCHO GUNDAM
I wouldn't say drafted as there wasn't any conflicts large enough post OYW that would justify a Draft. Even Zeta Gundam wasn't a full scale war. Char's Counterattack Londa Bell literally took on Neo Zeon with what half a dozen ships?
@@Alte.Kameraden I'm pretty sure that the Titans would be drafting people. Or Neo-Zeon. Only the AEUG seems to be staffed with volunteers.
@@HolyknightVader999 Neo Zeon everyone in the Faction was part of the military respectfully so it's a moot point.
Meanwhile the Titans pulled personnel from the Federation military to fill it's ranks. Mostly volunteers or individuals who showed promise or aligned with Titan ambition. Titans are not as large as you'd think.
I think between AEUG and Neo Zeon only around 18-25 ships were counted regardless from the film/TV show. The very concept there would be Drafts is very far fetch. So that isn't a lot of personnel.
People seem to forget how small the battles are in the post OYW era of the UC time line.
Titan fleet at the end of Zeta numbered roughly 100 ships but it included regilar Federation and Republic of Zeon vessels as well. You never see that many ships on screen though so it's likely BS.
When Al's friend said that a war will happen again, I legit went Oof
The commentary is well written, the jokes are well timed, and the visuals are entertaining.
You’re going straight to the top my friend.
God willing, friend
I can see it now, Cultured Crusader, 1 mil subs
My favorite Gundam is War in the Pocket because it really delivers a good "war is hell" story in just 6 episodes. No unnecesary filler, no annoying kids whining about adults who don't understand anything, no newtype space magic, just normal people fighting for what they thing is right. Also some absolutely amazing suits - Kampfer, GM Cold District, GM Sniper, Hygogg, Gelgoog Jaeger, Zaku Kai, they're all perfect. (ironic considering the meta commentary of the series, I know)
Gm sniper 2 goes so hard
Ah, yes. Gundam 0080. Best enjoyed while eating a juicy hamburger.
I feel War in the pocket did the best at grounding the "war is hell, there is no winner" mind set Yoshiyuki Tomino had when he first wanted to start the series out. Sure the series has always had cool looking mechs and fights, but the show has also always had the ongoing soap opera like story between the character of whatever group we wore mainly watching.
War in the Pockets being the first to show Zeon's view of things really hits hard.
I have one major nitpick with War in The Pocket. The Federation GMs are so badly miss treated. I hated that they're just one shot killed repeatedly. At least let them give the Zeon forces a run for their money. Let the GMs win for once!
dont get me started on windams bro
Gundam Wing Endless Waltz is Christmas movie
technically it is New Years, but everything happens around Christmas, so it's close enough.
I'm still making my way through Wing. Haven't got to the movie yet
Except it's the happy ending one.
I can't help but adore Thunderbolt, the manga and the anime are both so good and it has the best soundtrack bar none
Yeah Thunderbolt is fantastic. it also has some of my favorite mech designs. I just hope we get the rest of it animated.
Why did they just stop halfway through Bandit Flower?
This review made me binge this series today and man it was a good watch. I love these little side stories in the middle of a much bigger war. Great and funny review as always, keep it up!
where are you watching it?
I do think that the 8th Ms team is also really good at showing the similarities between both sides of earth and zeon and how there are heroes and bastards on both sides, also btw am I the only one that despite the fact that it happens all the time in gundam, watching a group of civilians get fucking evicerated still somehow manages to shock me. Like it’s gundam, it’s to be expected but still.
My two fav Christmas-time anime are this and Nanoha A's. Both involve violent beam-blasting combat, a race against a doomsday timer, two sides of good people(some of whom are unknowingly friends outside of battle) fighting each other, and a kid who gets both the best and worst Christmas present ever.
As much as I love war in the pocket, my second top favorite Gundam series is Gundam Thunderbolt since it shows how “hell” war is and how it can turn the most sane person to a war absorbed maniac. And the tone and characters represents what wat can do to people.
I've seen Thunderbolt come up pretty often in the comments. Can't wait till I get to it
My uncle was a huge gundam fan we would watch endless waltz and the original transformers animated movie every christmas since it released
Based uncle
@@CulturedCrusader yeah but now i have a crippling mecha addiction
This series has a special place in our hearts.
Gundam Wing and Mobile Suit Gundam the 08th MS Team are two of my favorites
Gundam Wing is a tough watch. Nothing about the plot makes sense, the setting is half baked and the characters are too edgy to be palatable.
I know many people have a fondness for the show because it was this cool spectacle 20 years ago when they discovered it, but on its own merits, it's not all that.
As a hardcore gundam fan, this is my favorite series, and the one I recommend people to start with.
08th MS Team is my favorite Gundam. No newtype bs, no space battles. Just mechs on the ground (as they are meant to be) duking it out in the jungle.
Always been one of my favorites. Even if it is a knife being turned in your gut for the last couple episodes. It's a really pretty knife.
honestly i've been finding g-witch far more compelling than any of the previous gundam entries i've seen, which essentially all of the early UC except Stardust Memory and Narrative + IBO, 00, and SEED
edit: but as it stands my favorite is still unicorn and origin, both 6-episode, 40-minute each OVAs which are perfectly paced.
I can't say I have a favorite Mobile Suit Gundam series because I love all of them ✨💙
Completely understandable
What about G-Saviour? 👀
Except SEED. SEED can go to hell
@@Kidynamo123 that’s a weird way to spell Wing
@@thomasffrench3639 For how Ridiculous the Buster Rifle's Power Output Compared to Virtues GN Bazooka.
Probably the best gundam review ive ever watched
gundam wing: endless waltz is a great christmas movie.
I still have 20 more episodes of Wing to watch but I'm looking forward to the movie
Gundam is extremely underrated.
For Gundam, favorite is definitely Unicorn and Narrative which are just part 1 and 2 of a larger story. For Christmas, it's Toradora.
Yo same with ya, Gundam unicorn and narrative has literally the perfect continuation of the story, especially the part where they include Mineva and banagher in the movie🥲
i had this open without really knowing which specific gundam this was and boy was i surprised cause i just finished war in the pocket! it was very good and love just seeing more of the zion soliders going about on their mission. the visuals and the atmosphere are just great and will cry when eating burgers! ;__;
The gundam series have a number if Christmas settings gundam wing endless waltz ended during Christmas in verse . Watched the vast majority of gundam . Only haven't seen the rest of iron blooded but I've seen all the universal century up to now and gundam is the first anime I've watched gundam wing was my first anime then I watched all the older shows as i got older . Gundam is a anti war series and it doesn't pull it punchs the animes are mostly filled with deep characters with motives that feel more real and touch on subjects that are very real with out being preachy . Awesome video subbed rung the bell and liked.
Time for the other Christmas Gundam Movie then-
It might not as gut wrenching as 0080, but SEED Stargazer is also had similar message but from SEED timeline perspective and it happens to be my favorite as well.
Zeta Gundam is my favourite series.
I know that's a lot of ppl's favorite and I can definitely see why
Came here just to say the Kampfer is so sick
Finally some recognition for my favorite anime genre (gundam) yes I called Gundam a genre because gundam specifically focuses on its anti-war themes.. they strictly send a message to their audience that war = bad. Gundam made me feel something that no other anime did. Its empathy to every characterin the story... and when it comes to war there is no good side or bad side. The true villain in these stories is war itself. when it comes to war there is no winner... there are only victims.
Unlike other animes when there's conflict :YEAH!! beat that guy kill em HOORAY!! The hero saved the day.
Gundam when there's conflict :Damn it! It doesn't have to be this way.. its not too late to stop this.(main protagonist beats the antagonist. The protag gets sad and angry at the same time cuz he couldn't save everyone)
In gundam at the start of the show it starts cool...giant robots fighting awesome. But as it progresses it gets sadder and sadder. Each victory feels empty.. like everything they've done so far was meaningless. Then they realize to end a war is not to fight in it. Its to yearn for peace for both sides. Killing each other is not the way. And I quote "We defeat our enemies by making friends with them"
is code geass gundam to you then?
@@thealliedpowers no? But code geass was made by sunrise the same company that made gundam... So thats why there's a lot of similar themes with both shows. War, mechs and drama. Etc.
There are bad guys as mentioned here Zeon really is Nazi in leadership and racial superiority vs total democracy of Federation which is highly corrupted.
Zeon doing all the huge atrocities.
Leadership of Zeon must go. And element of this there is a true bad guy with very evil intent on Zeon side.
But individuals on both sides are not into that big picture stuff and abuse by federation and living in space gives colony dwellers some Zeon leanings.
Again war is bad effects on individuals and there must be a way to avoid this come thur.
Later stories flip this.
I'm not a Gundam fan at all but war in the pocket is in my top 10 series. Good work on this one, hope you make it far.
Another banger video from the King 🔥👑🔥
Merry Christmas to you!
I'm glad Gundam has been stirring on the internets recently
I MEAN LIKE THIS GUNDAM. Hahaha no offense to IBO or WOM. 🌹🍷
Endless Waltz is my Gundam Christmas movie
It's pretty good, too, but War in the Pocket just hits different for me
I love your editing jokes, also cultured review, instant sub
Here's to more funni robots
also suletta sundays 🍅
Gundam Seed during my teen years because as a kid i never actually cared about anything except having fun with my firneds living ina safe country living in the matrix. Gundasm seed made me aware of reality and how lucky i was. It made me feel like wanting to be a hero that protected for the ones i cared about even though im not really that good at anything.
.Second is Code geass being something similar .and third being 00 which focuses more on the results of war and side characters with plot.Focusing on the lives of 2 charcters sagi a simple niceguy and luisse a hyper cheerful happy teen girl. Friends/ lovers that end up forced to work on opposite sides and face one another trying to find their way back to each other.
Love this OVA
A well written story on the horrors and consequences of war......but on the flip side.......whoa cool robots fighting
Universal Century all the way. War In The Pocket and 8th MS Team are excellent stories but I gotta go out there and say Stardust Memory is my go-to!
Stardust Memory has my favorite opening. Also I love the top gun vibes
Gundam Zeta is my favorite anime but the original Legend of the Galactic Heroes is easily the best anime ever made. I recommend both to people but obviously the prerequisite to Gundam Zeta is to watch the original Gundam 0079.
Yes Legends of Galactic Heroes the best.
But it’s political and high level events not likely to work great on that many younger viewers.
The way the story seams to be written about current events yet written in 80’s tad depressing as it’s theme of humans repeating the same behavior over and over again is tragic. And this theme shared by Gundam.
Great commentary mate. This is one those Gundam series that is a must watch for anyone who's interested in Gundam.
What is it called to watch it
Whatever way you start watching Gundam just go for it. Start with the new stuff and then try the old stuff. Or start with the originals and then do the new stuff. Its easilly one of the longest running AND best anime series of all time!
Best Christmas anime has to be Tokyo Godfathers, no question. Favourite Gundam is harder because I think every Gundam series does something better than the others (even F91, definitely not the strongest of these stories, has 100% the best opening sequence of any Gundam series, and Stardust Memory, despite being boring as shit, has more insight into Anaheim than we get anywhere else). I might give it to Thunderbolt, because I think it's the best self-contained story that strikes an ideal balance between "Zeon grunts can be nice dudes" and "Zeon is a fucking capital-c Cult, my guy."
Great review for such a great show. Hope you have a good Christmas 👍
When Gundam try to make Zeon soldiers as sympathetic.
Reminded they suppprted the GASSING of an entire colony and DROP IT on Earth!
Bernard was a complete rookie who got tossed in a team full of veterans and was assigned on what can be considered as a suicide mission. Zeon still sucks here.
I'm honestly baffled at how you people are completely missing that. 0080, 0083, Igloo, Thunderbolt, Origin, in all of these, Zeon and its remnants were shown doing terrible things. It's just that some individuals weren't monsters like the regime they served to, thinking of themselves as freedom fighters and actually being shown as decent people. Well, except for Gato, fuck this guy.
Funny asf review, great job! And I'm surprised back the lack of a hamburger meat joke lol.
I'd say Endless Waltz is the Christmas Gundam Movie
i cannot for the life of me understand people who are "put off" by brilliant hand drawn animation. Zoomers truly are messed up, it's not entirely their fault though, being raised on fortnite and ipad games probably does irreparable damage to the developing brain.
I knew absolutely nothing about gundam before this year and started watching through the UC timeline this summer, as well as IBO and WfM. Having finished it, it's very hard to pick one favorite but it's between zeta and thunderbolts
I remember in the early 2000’s setting the VCR to record War in the Pocket because I was still going to school. It was the only way for me to watch it because Cartoon Network movie it to the late night hours.
I may be late but...
I find Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is pretty good for Christmas anime, especially since it take place during Christmas lol.
This commentary was excellemt. I've never seen War in the Pocket or even finished many shows in the UC timeline, but this convinced me to watch it.
My favorite Gundam series is a toss up between G Gundam or Gundam 00
It just dawned on me this video is a bakamonogatari refence bravo!
It's my favorite anime
/ourguy/ spotted
Well my favorite all time gundam is the nu gundam from char's counterattack but one of my favorites is the alex gundam the one from this ova it's a really cool mobile suit
Oh how funny, on the 24th, I was searching for gundam Christmas content, and 7 days later, I find this.
I love War in the Pocket as much as I love Zeta, which is a lot. Zeta is my favorite but if you argued that War in the Pocket was objectively better I wouldn't disagree. War in the Pocket is absolutely my favorite christmas anime, watch it almost every winter.
8:11 Corporate America be like
Super job i been a gundam fan since the 80s keep up the great works on your reviews peace✌️
Great video even if it wasn't commissioned by the Merchant's Guild
Cool video, I'll have to check that one out. I'm also working my way through the Gundam franchise, my favorite is probably 00. Though I also highly recommend Build Fighters for some really stupid fun. It's like Beyblade but with Gundam models instead of tops.
My favorite gundam is the Barbatos and all of its forms from Iron Blooded Orphans

_Oh no._
Please stop selling hamburger meat on Christmas, you'll scar the children(probably).
Fun facts for Christmas I got myself a master grade age 2 Gundam normal version
And I am happy because this is my first master grade
War in the Pocket is my favorite Gundam.
This is my fav Christmas special, i got my bro in law to watch it and he was really silent at the end😂
The ending hits pretty hard
@@CulturedCrusader yes, but it's perfect, it really is a war in a little pocket ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ

Endless Waltz was my favorite chrismas story :)
I can't wait to get to it
This and Endless Waltz are my 2 favorite crimas movies.
Gundam build fighters and build fighters try are my favorite in terms of just fun.
"That one in september." ._. Bruh
Most anime Christmas episodes are in romantic shows (Oh My Goddess OVA 5, Maison Ikkoku had 2-3). The best of these is probably Kimagure Orange Road's Christmas episode. Which is really Groundhog Day long before Groundhog day (time travel is in play).
War in the Pocket is a major Christmas Anime by Die Hard rules.
Love war in the pocket but that ending hits my kokoro, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is pretty good for Christmas.
Endless Waltz is a Christmas movie.
I actually started watching Zeta Gundam not too long ago and was totally lost so I rented War in Pocket and Stardust Memory in the hopes that they'd fill in some gaps. Stardust Memory did a little bit, War in Pocket didn't but it was so good it was like, who cares lol. For Christmas anime Tokyo Godfathers is definitely the best one, it's actually almost a Christmas movie in the traditional sense and if you're into Satoshi Kon as a director this was his most different work. Speaking of Gundam, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz kinda fits the bill too.
I've been meaning to check out Tokyo Godfathers. I didn't realize it was a Christmas movie lol
If you want to understand Zeta, watch the original series
@@thomasffrench3639 I've seen the original series. If anything I was more confused that the Earth Federation was suddenly tyrannical and nuking innocent colonies and stuff and that Bright Noah and Amuro are now against them.
Why Stardust helps but the unclear nature of the end of it still confuses.
Zeta without it tells why Titans created but does not make you feel the war on terror nature Stardust adds to give you the fear of Zeon leftover that created the Titans. The fact leadership of Titans use this to recruit want power to oppress others types to take power is shown but not explained well.
Story staying to much at action level does not let you realize why the heroes of the first are allies with Char. Plus it does infers the hero of the first understood the desires of the common man on Zeon side while realizing Zeon leadership and Titan leadership the same power mad evil who believe atrocities and terror way to win.
I'll never forgive The Alex for killing santa and turning Bernie into a seasoned hamburger
0080 and 8th Ms team are probably my favorite 2. Very good

If you want a recommendation for Christmas, then Tokyo Godfathers.
Some homeless bums try to return a baby to it's family whom they found on the streets.
I’m a big fan of the mainline Gundam series 79->Z->ZZ->CCA. It’s probably peak anime imo. More “weebs” (who probably haven’t even seen a Kurosawa film) need to see this legendary saga. I got 0080 for Christmas so I’m starting it soon. I’m excited!
Also love how AOT first half is Zeta Gundam and second half is Char’s Counterattack.
I'm craving Hamburgers
I watch endless waltz every year 💖
UC: Zeta and Victory. AU: Seed
My favorite holiday tradition. Guys getting brutally shot. Thanks Gundam and Die Hard.
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is also a Christmas story.

My favorite gundam is a tough call.. I’m torn between 00Gundam and Iron Blooded Orphans..
(Having said that, I haven’t seen all of them. And I *really* liked “08th MS team” too)
Since you put Unicorn on that collage near the end, make sure you watch ZZ Gundam beforehand. Let’s say a lot of stuff makes more sense afterward.
I wouldn’t say its self contained as the main plot points involve what happens in the original series, i’d consider it more of a side story that can be watched in between the main shows
Demm. Now it's a sad ova after ur review especially for the disconnected Zeon guys
My favorite Gundam is Gundam Sentinel which occurs between zeta and zz.
It's only a novel and will probably never be adapted into an anime :/
