My favorite Gundam is War in the Pocket because it really delivers a good "war is hell" story in just 6 episodes. No unnecesary filler, no annoying kids whining about adults who don't understand anything, no newtype space magic, just normal people fighting for what they thing is right. Also some absolutely amazing suits - Kampfer, GM Cold District, GM Sniper, Hygogg, Gelgoog Jaeger, Zaku Kai, they're all perfect. (ironic considering the meta commentary of the series, I know)
I feel War in the pocket did the best at grounding the "war is hell, there is no winner" mind set Yoshiyuki Tomino had when he first wanted to start the series out. Sure the series has always had cool looking mechs and fights, but the show has also always had the ongoing soap opera like story between the character of whatever group we wore mainly watching. War in the Pockets being the first to show Zeon's view of things really hits hard.
This review made me binge this series today and man it was a good watch. I love these little side stories in the middle of a much bigger war. Great and funny review as always, keep it up!

My two fav Christmas-time anime are this and Nanoha A's. Both involve violent beam-blasting combat, a race against a doomsday timer, two sides of good people(some of whom are unknowingly friends outside of battle) fighting each other, and a kid who gets both the best and worst Christmas present ever.
I have one major nitpick with War in The Pocket. The Federation GMs are so badly miss treated. I hated that they're just one shot killed repeatedly. At least let them give the Zeon forces a run for their money. Let the GMs win for once!

This commentary was excellemt. I've never seen War in the Pocket or even finished many shows in the UC timeline, but this convinced me to watch it. My favorite Gundam series is a toss up between G Gundam or Gundam 00
As much as I love war in the pocket, my second top favorite Gundam series is Gundam Thunderbolt since it shows how “hell” war is and how it can turn the most sane person to a war absorbed maniac. And the tone and characters represents what wat can do to people.
Gundam Wing is a tough watch. Nothing about the plot makes sense, the setting is half baked and the characters are too edgy to be palatable. I know many people have a fondness for the show because it was this cool spectacle 20 years ago when they discovered it, but on its own merits, it's not all that.
The gundam series have a number if Christmas settings gundam wing endless waltz ended during Christmas in verse . Watched the vast majority of gundam . Only haven't seen the rest of iron blooded but I've seen all the universal century up to now and gundam is the first anime I've watched gundam wing was my first anime then I watched all the older shows as i got older . Gundam is a anti war series and it doesn't pull it punchs the animes are mostly filled with deep characters with motives that feel more real and touch on subjects that are very real with out being preachy . Awesome video subbed rung the bell and liked.
Best Christmas anime has to be Tokyo Godfathers, no question. Favourite Gundam is harder because I think every Gundam series does something better than the others (even F91, definitely not the strongest of these stories, has 100% the best opening sequence of any Gundam series, and Stardust Memory, despite being boring as shit, has more insight into Anaheim than we get anywhere else). I might give it to Thunderbolt, because I think it's the best self-contained story that strikes an ideal balance between "Zeon grunts can be nice dudes" and "Zeon is a fucking capital-c Cult, my guy."
2:38 THANK YOU for calling out Zeon's fashion sense here! 4:52 Ironic then how much he sucks at being sneaky. Christina got the drop on him in 1 hit. 5:40 Yeah, Japan, WTAF?! If the show's creators intended for Al to act as Audience Surrogate, then I think that's their way of telling us we're stupid for liking GUNDAM and Mobile Suits blasting the crap out of each other for the wrong reasons. OH! I just 'membered another anime with an unlikely Christmas episode: Ghost in the Shell: STand ALone Complex - 2nd Gig. Its title escapes me now, but it focuses on Batou (later joined by the Major on her way from her solo op in Taiwan) joining an international task force to catch a wanted terrorist, setting a trap for the guy in his next target city: Berlin, Germany. Around Christmastime.

Bernard was a complete rookie who got tossed in a team full of veterans and was assigned on what can be considered as a suicide mission. Zeon still sucks here. I'm honestly baffled at how you people are completely missing that. 0080, 0083, Igloo, Thunderbolt, Origin, in all of these, Zeon and its remnants were shown doing terrible things. It's just that some individuals weren't monsters like the regime they served to, thinking of themselves as freedom fighters and actually being shown as decent people. Well, except for Gato, fuck this guy.

Gundam Zeta is my favorite anime but the original Legend of the Galactic Heroes is easily the best anime ever made. I recommend both to people but obviously the prerequisite to Gundam Zeta is to watch the original Gundam 0079.
Yes Legends of Galactic Heroes the best. But it’s political and high level events not likely to work great on that many younger viewers. The way the story seams to be written about current events yet written in 80’s tad depressing as it’s theme of humans repeating the same behavior over and over again is tragic. And this theme shared by Gundam.
Yo same with ya, Gundam unicorn and narrative has literally the perfect continuation of the story, especially the part where they include Mineva and banagher in the movie🥲
i cannot for the life of me understand people who are "put off" by brilliant hand drawn animation. Zoomers truly are messed up, it's not entirely their fault though, being raised on fortnite and ipad games probably does irreparable damage to the developing brain.
I love War in the Pocket as much as I love Zeta, which is a lot. Zeta is my favorite but if you argued that War in the Pocket was objectively better I wouldn't disagree. War in the Pocket is absolutely my favorite christmas anime, watch it almost every winter.
Whatever way you start watching Gundam just go for it. Start with the new stuff and then try the old stuff. Or start with the originals and then do the new stuff. Its easilly one of the longest running AND best anime series of all time!
I actually started watching Zeta Gundam not too long ago and was totally lost so I rented War in Pocket and Stardust Memory in the hopes that they'd fill in some gaps. Stardust Memory did a little bit, War in Pocket didn't but it was so good it was like, who cares lol. For Christmas anime Tokyo Godfathers is definitely the best one, it's actually almost a Christmas movie in the traditional sense and if you're into Satoshi Kon as a director this was his most different work. Speaking of Gundam, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz kinda fits the bill too.
@@thomasffrench3639 I've seen the original series. If anything I was more confused that the Earth Federation was suddenly tyrannical and nuking innocent colonies and stuff and that Bright Noah and Amuro are now against them.
Why Stardust helps but the unclear nature of the end of it still confuses. Zeta without it tells why Titans created but does not make you feel the war on terror nature Stardust adds to give you the fear of Zeon leftover that created the Titans. The fact leadership of Titans use this to recruit want power to oppress others types to take power is shown but not explained well. Story staying to much at action level does not let you realize why the heroes of the first are allies with Char. Plus it does infers the hero of the first understood the desires of the common man on Zeon side while realizing Zeon leadership and Titan leadership the same power mad evil who believe atrocities and terror way to win.
Most anime Christmas episodes are in romantic shows (Oh My Goddess OVA 5, Maison Ikkoku had 2-3). The best of these is probably Kimagure Orange Road's Christmas episode. Which is really Groundhog Day long before Groundhog day (time travel is in play). War in the Pocket is a major Christmas Anime by Die Hard rules.
Well my favorite all time gundam is the nu gundam from char's counterattack but one of my favorites is the alex gundam the one from this ova it's a really cool mobile suit
My favorite gundam is a tough call.. I’m torn between 00Gundam and Iron Blooded Orphans.. (Having said that, I haven’t seen all of them. And I *really* liked “08th MS team” too)
Is it just me, or did both of those series reuse a lot of character archetypes and plot structures from GUNDAM WING? I watched a lot of GUNDAM stuff since WING on TOONAMI in '98, so I notice these things.

Yo same with ya, Gundam unicorn and narrative has literally the perfect continuation of the story, especially the part where they include Mineva and banagher in the movie🥲
I called this shit "Gundam: The Worst Christmas" for so long my girlfriend had no idea what it was actually called
I'd say Endless Waltz is the Christmas Gundam Movie
i cannot for the life of me understand people who are "put off" by brilliant hand drawn animation. Zoomers truly are messed up, it's not entirely their fault though, being raised on fortnite and ipad games probably does irreparable damage to the developing brain.
8:11 Corporate America be like
This is my fav Christmas special, i got my bro in law to watch it and he was really silent at the end😂
The ending hits pretty hard
@@CulturedCrusader yes, but it's perfect, it really is a war in a little pocket ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
Shit'll fuck ya up brah. That endings no joke.
I love War in the Pocket as much as I love Zeta, which is a lot. Zeta is my favorite but if you argued that War in the Pocket was objectively better I wouldn't disagree. War in the Pocket is absolutely my favorite christmas anime, watch it almost every winter.
I may be late but...
I find Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is pretty good for Christmas anime, especially since it take place during Christmas lol.
I'll never forgive The Alex for killing santa and turning Bernie into a seasoned hamburger
Whatever way you start watching Gundam just go for it. Start with the new stuff and then try the old stuff. Or start with the originals and then do the new stuff. Its easilly one of the longest running AND best anime series of all time!
Universal Century all the way. War In The Pocket and 8th MS Team are excellent stories but I gotta go out there and say Stardust Memory is my go-to!
Stardust Memory has my favorite opening. Also I love the top gun vibes
I've been meaning to check out Tokyo Godfathers. I didn't realize it was a Christmas movie lol
If you want to understand Zeta, watch the original series

_Oh no._
Please stop selling hamburger meat on Christmas, you'll scar the children(probably).
Love war in the pocket but that ending hits my kokoro, Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is pretty good for Christmas.
0080 and 8th Ms team are probably my favorite 2. Very good
Fun facts for Christmas I got myself a master grade age 2 Gundam normal version
And I am happy because this is my first master grade
This and Endless Waltz are my 2 favorite crimas movies.
My favorite gundam is the Barbatos and all of its forms from Iron Blooded Orphans
War in the Pocket is my favorite Gundam.
Gundam build fighters and build fighters try are my favorite in terms of just fun.
My favorite holiday tradition. Guys getting brutally shot. Thanks Gundam and Die Hard.
My favorite anime
You have good taste
It just dawned on me this video is a bakamonogatari refence bravo!
It's my favorite anime
"That one in september." ._. Bruh
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz is also a Christmas story.
/ourguy/ spotted
Well my favorite all time gundam is the nu gundam from char's counterattack but one of my favorites is the alex gundam the one from this ova it's a really cool mobile suit
Nice video
My favorite gundam is a tough call.. I’m torn between 00Gundam and Iron Blooded Orphans..
(Having said that, I haven’t seen all of them. And I *really* liked “08th MS team” too)
Is it just me, or did both of those series reuse a lot of character archetypes and plot structures from GUNDAM WING? I watched a lot of GUNDAM stuff since WING on TOONAMI in '98, so I notice these things.
Let's not forget thunderbolt December sky is also a Christmas gundam!
My favorite christmas special with a side of burger
Endless Waltz is a Christmas movie.
Since you put Unicorn on that collage near the end, make sure you watch ZZ Gundam beforehand. Let’s say a lot of stuff makes more sense afterward.
Demm. Now it's a sad ova after ur review especially for the disconnected Zeon guys
My favorite Gundam is a manga called Advance of Zeta
