Dylan, how did you secure your 3rd row seats? I assume your 7&9 up’s are just in boosters or high back boosters? My 5.5yo has maxed out of the harness height so I’m seat shopping. Thanks!
Just ordered my MY 7 passenger yesterday and found you today! My first video because I have two toddlers. I have until April to figure this out but thank you for making it easy! Well now I need to buy those seats!! Now I’m off to see if you did a video about the white seats and kids 😅
Thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it. You should show what it looks like with two kids in back and three adults in the second row and how much space there is in the rear for cargo. Man I wish these cars weren't so expensive, I'd totally pull the trigger but they just keep going up...
Great video, this is an important consideration for many families. Perhaps one day Tesla or one of their suppliers will develop integrated child seats for the 3rd row, I believe Chrysler had this feature on minivans years ago. Your boys are very cute by the way, but I expect they're a handful, especially when they plot together!
Oh their a handful alright! So Volvo has a booster integrated but regulations for car seat safety change quite a bit over time so I would imagine that’s why manufacturers shy away from the car seat space
I have two kids so I am very aware of “how much fun” they are to put in the car. I also picked up on your sarcasm. 😂 Would love to see a video with everyone in the car. I’m getting a 7 seater Y hopefully soon. We tested one at local SC with my in laws and it was a tight squeeze cause the space has to come from somewhere. It worked but not sure we could do a really long road trip that way. Beats driving my moms mini van though.
We have a 2 year old and a 1.5 month old. Both in rear facing car seats. We have Graco extend to fit car seats. You think they would work in a 2 row model y? Honest opinion.
I bought a booster (Solana 2 from 1:25 in the video) for our 3rd row, but the 3rd row doesn’t have the latch, and the seat doesn’t have a strap for back anchor. So I have the booster in the 2nd row, rear facing baby seat in 2nd row, and toddler car seat in 3rd row, and when grandparents are in, I just store the booster in the back and have the kid move to the 3rd row. But if a hassle, but it works.
I really want my next car to be a 7 seater Model Y but it just seems that I'd be sacrificing so much space just to have a Tesla. I used my buddy's Model Y 7 seater and loaded the car up with 7 passengers and it was a struggle getting everyone in/out. I'm currently in a Traverse and that thing's gigantic compared. I understand it's a midsize SUV vs compact SUV. I wish they made an affordable midsize SUV.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy does the cargo size make up for it in the Y? I get that seating wise it’s not expansive, but if you can store your gear then you’re golden. May require a luggage hitch for those family road trips
Would you be able to fold down one or both sides of the middle row? Could be fun for the kids to have the extra leg room when trunk space isn't needed. Or if only one side is folded down, gives access for an adult to reach back there from the middle row too.
This is my question as well. We have the Pacifica right now and I have two forward facing and one rear-facing with one of the middle captain seats in the floor. We love this configuration, but hate the price to drive it. Lol. It’s very roomy and has an entertainment center for the kids for long trips. Would the model Y be comparable?
The Clek Foonf is also a narrow seat, but also the forward facing depth with no recline is also 3.5" shorter than the Diono. (12.5" vs 16"). The Foonf is considerably more costly though, but we have had two kids in them now. I can also say they both fit nicely if one is forward facing and the other rear facing. Now we have one in a Clek Oobr high back booster and the other still rear facing. (ages 7 and 2.5) Nice review on the Diono. I'll make sure to link to this video in the future if the question comes up. They have been long praised in the mommy groups for years as an great 3 across seat. I had considered them for my first, but liked the anti-rebound bar the Clek has.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy That's awesome! I didn't know they had them too! Save the old ones for the Target trade-in event (you get a coupon for 20% off baby gear like car seats and strollers and they recycle your seat) but if you don't need it, offer up the seats for free so someone else can use it for the trade in, and you don't have to worry about disposal. You seem like the kind of guy that already knows that though :)
This video is super helpful! However, in the interest of full disclosure, we're just curious (and want to reconfirm) whether this video is part of a paid content sponsorship with Diono -- or just Fantom Wallet?

Any chance you could show the two seats to one side in the second row configuration? We have 2 kids and really want to be able to fit an adult in a window seat. Cant find a UA-cam video of that and someone sitting there. Thanks!
Yea, we actually did that a few times. We used to do that when we had an extra person with us if we didn’t want to use the 3rd row. It’s tight but more comfortable to lean into the door next to car seat honestly.

I think about it often. Everything in a car is more and less safe. Example, car seat in the middle of the middle row is safest. But with 2 carseats, we have one next to each door, which is less safe. The 3rd row is probably a bit less still, but I know in the Model S back in the day they added reinforcement to the rear of the car when equipped with 3rd row. I don't know that to be the case in the Model Y, but it is possible
Hello my friend, I Ordered model X 2 months ago for90 K and now it’s 100 K. Do you know how to sell the order for the car which is to be delivered in January
Hi all, do you think a Tesla Model Y with 3rd row could fit 3 infant car seats? Two in the middle row and one in the back row? I would really appreciate the answer if anyone has attempted to do this or simply put an infant car seat in the 3rd row. Thank you.
No. There are a few reasons. First, the 3rd row does not have latches for the infant seat, so you just use a seatbelt back there. Even if it did, the issue will be space as you won't be able to move the second row forward enough with someone in it to make enough room for a rear facing seat in the 3rd row.
Question: do those black covers for the car seat stain the white seats? I’m asking because the ones I have seen on Amazon recommend not to use on white seats.
