- The Vermander Curse is a game about a wealthy landowner called J.P Vermander who summons a demon on the staff and patients of a hospital. It contains many endings and different ways to discover a final outcome. In this video we walk through the story and explain what happens as well as taking a look at each of the 4 main endings. The good ending is great. I've gotten slightly fatigued from the villain having no sort of character development and I always love a good redemption arc
Same. I hope that JP Vermander is an NPC in a later game, or something - a reformed villain who has old family knowledge of the occult but who has grown a conscience sounds like a great character to give exposition.

It's implied that "Jane Doe" is actually a immigrant that is illegaly on the country, reason why she didn't want to give out her name and how she feared never to see her family again if she went to the hospital, meaning, risking be deported. A lot of immigrants have this exact same fear and is the reason why they won't report crimes to the police or go to the hospital even if they really need to, so I appreciate the inclusion of this little piece of realism into the story. It makes her death all the more tragic to happen because even if she dissapears, her family couldn't do anything to find her without risking deportation themselves or maybe wouldn't even be aware of it because of living on that other country.

Yes , living is not a crime but being a illegal immigrant is, hence why they're illegal. Illegal immigration is bad inherently and is even bad for the immigrants since traffickers don't care that those in their charge are abused sexually, especially if they're women or girls like in the Mexico to US border. It also effects all aspects of life such as the native population of my country is suffering from the trip from places like Calais to the UK as it is putting pressure on our entire country and systems such as the NHS and housing crisis and their luxury hotels ,which the taxpayer has to pay for which no veteran for our country or homeless people get as well as the people illegally entering do not share our culture and beliefs which has caused so much harm such as grooming gangs and terrorist attacks as well as hate towards gays(which I've sadly have happen to me), Jews and women. If you want to legitimately immigrate somewhere you should have to do it legally and through the proper channels. Just being alive or "living" does not give me a right to live in a certain country just because they say so, I don't have entitlement to live in the US or Japan because I want to.
There is actually another ending that you get if Jane Doe dies, basically revealing that her disappearance went largely ignored except by Doctor Eda and Nurse Morton, who tried to shed light on the matter but couldn't since no one knew her, as if she had never existed. So your theory might be right.
You missed the ending where only Jane is taken. It's actually a completely different ending, because Jane Doe isn't known to exist.

When it mentioned Vermander being horribly mangled I thought for a second he was going to go on to become the man from the window. I did think there was a bit of resemblance in the eyes, or I could have imagined it.
Well there's always a possibility that it could be a relative of him.
Could be him or another family members of his that got resurrected as them?

As more of the games come out, I think they've been hinting more and more that the paranormal happenings around the town are all linked to the Vermander family.
The good ending has to be my favorite one so far. Yes, it was cheesy but also heartwarming and I’m a sucker for good endings in horror games (You don’t see good endings without it having twists much, I’m glad this one didn’t) . Its extremely rare to have a villain redemption arc in a horror game, many of them have the villain just killed off for good reasons actually. Even though, I wished Vermander suffered more (I mean, this fool literally tried to kill a hospital full of vulnerable, innocent patients and poor overworked staff workers), I’m kinda glad that he turned a new leaf and realized how messed he was. I actually thought the ending was adorable 😊

Jane Doe is actually a placeholder name that is used in real life when the true name of a (female) person is unknown or is being intentionally concealed.

At 1st, I didn't know why Hannah didn't die in the worst ending, but did in the criminal ending, but now I realize that since Eda and Morton survived, J.P probably realized Hannah helped them.
There actually is 1 more ending. Notice that if all *_3_* patients are captured, the Criminal Ending starts off with "An investigation into the *_2_* different disappearances...". That's because "Jane Doe's" (the octopus lady) true identity is unknown. If she's the only character captured, the ending is as follows:
The sun began to rise upon our little town.
And the demon could not stay in this world much longer.
It had already fulfilled it's side of the Vermander Pact.
So it departed from this world, back from whence it came.
Doctor Eda and Nurse Morton had both survived.
They were finally safe.
However...
No one ever came forward to report the disappearance of "Jane Doe."
She was simply gone. Almost as if she never existed in the first place...
But she did exist.
And both Eda and Morton did all they could to cast light on to her disappearance.
But sadly, "a demon kidnapped a woman that no one has any information on" doesn't get you very far.
It cost an innocent and hard-working woman her life, but Vermander's plan had been stopped. Much to his disappointment.
But, of course...
There was nothing stopping him from trying it all again...

@@sablle5974 I don't think there's a special ending if the wife gets captured. She's always with her husband and if the husband gets captured, so does she. I think the developer counts both her and her husband as 1 entity, so even if they both disappear, the game will count that as 1 disappearance.
This developer makes such interesting looking games! They all got this style to them that attracts me so much! Not just with the artstyle (with it always including anthropomorphic animals and whatnot) but also on the gameplay aspect as well! (with them always mostly revolving around time and memorizing patterns) and I'm here for it! Can't wait to see what they do next!

Many people might wonder why. Medical professionals like Doctor Eda would believe in witchcrafts rituals and demons as easy as that. I have 2 theories
1.The hospital is not the first establishment that has become the victim of Vermander family.
2.They exist on the same universe with Shadow catcher and man from the window. So maybe supernatural entities is common on that universe
Anyways mike i wish you play the indie game your beautiful paper smile it was also a good horror game.
The games actually all take place in the same town, so both of your theories are actually right. Paranormal stuff is normal in this universe, and this town has been tormented by the Vermander family for decades.
Did anyone else notice that Hannah smiled at the "and that was all that mattered" in the good ending? That makes me think she was the narrator idk might be just me though
Fun fact: when a patient comes into the hospital without identification, depending on the gender, they get called Jane doe (female) or John doe (male).

While I certainly loved the good ending, I feel like Vermander was let off with just a slap on the wrist, his bodycount must be huuuge
It's an exaggerated reflection of reality that way, people with a lot of money usually get let off the hook much easier than others.
I wouldn't say being mauled to near death, losing all money, and now working as a regular is a slap on the wrist...unless there's something else he could be punished with.
Yeah actually I somewhat agree with both of you, I think it was the games ending being only a couple sentences saying he changed his perspective which honestly seems super abrupt and makes the whole ending feel a little unsatisfying, but I think the delivery of plain text is why it feels that way, maybe a shot of a clock spinning super fast when time passing is mentioned could've helped or something!
Though I still do agree that he deserves jailtime or just general passive consequence of some kind, I mean who knows how many people he has killed with that blood pact of his sheeeeesh
@@lemonpaperplanes I do agree with you on that he should receive some sort of legal punishment for sending a demon to terrorize the hospital. I do wonder though, how many times has he used that demon to accomplish something? the fact that Hannah knew that the ritual would cause something bad to happen implies that he's summoned it at least once before.
Honestly I think it worked out, he lost everything, got attacked by a demon, and got humbled (sorta) if he just got killed it wouldent be enough for the shit he does
So something I've realized about this game is how all the characters other than Vermander represent people who are easily taken advantage of by the wealthy elite
Eda represents the jaded but good-hearted doctor who finds ways to make ends meet despite not having the best ways to do so. Someone who manages to scrape by with what she's got knowing there is no point asking for help.
Morton is the fresh face, the out of towner, who is new to the job and doesn't know what he's in for. It doesn't matter to him what the on the job problems could be because he needs to start his life up regardless of hazards.
Jane, based on her speech style and fear of hospitals, could represent an illegal immigrant. It was mentioned that a trip to the hospital could seperate her from her family, aka deportation, and she might not have been working in a sanctioned job seeing how serious her injury was. She was willing to hide her name and cause of injury out of fear of being discovered.
Tammy seems to have problems with anxiety or even depression, due to her description. She's the kind of person who would rather avoid her problems until it's too late.
Jasmine and Lang could represent the low income middle class family facing poverty. The fact that Lang was risking injury to make his family happy and save money for dinner shows their predicament. The fact that people in the area were paying rent to a greedy businessman might be part of their problems.
Even Hannah to some extent could be analyzed. She is the overworked and overstressed, yet underpaid and underappreciated secretary who ends up blowing the whistle on her boss's latest money making scheme.
Overall, it really makes me upset that the demon didnt do them all a favor and off Vermander for good.

I'm gonna say it: Gamersault's R is good, damn good, but Mikey just delivers the story explained with a bit more flair.😎👍

The good ending was really nice. Hannah's smile at the end was great.
Something tells me the demon and the Man in the Window are related in some way. I think the Man is more powerful since he can break a lock in 30 seconds while the demon can't open a door on his own.
yeah i wonder how they weren't able to keep themselves safe by locking the doors and staying hidden
Didn't they say the demon is bound by it's own rules? I'm sure it would have no trouble phasing through the walls and invisibly killing everyone inside (since it's a literal demon) so perhaps it set those rules for itself in order to give it's victims more of a sporting chance. It makes sense as the demon didn't seem very happy about being used by Vermander, and when the pact was broken it didn't go back and kill all those people, so maybe it can't help being forced to kill, but it can place restrictions on itself in the hopes that a smart person will figure out what's going on and do something about it. The only problem with this theory is that in the powerful demon ending where it's no longer bound it devastates the town, so maybe it can't restrain itself when it's gains too much power?

You just gotta love the boyd family, Jane always there with lang and when they get attacked from the demon lang steps in front of Jane to protect her
This dev's work has quickly become some of my favorites
It's simple but unique with a recognizable style and fun little stories and very real character types you don't see often in horror characters
Something about them is very cozy like a good ghost story and I love seeing larger characters not used as grotesque monsters cause "LOL fat people gross"

I love it when you go over games that literally no one else is talking about, it's nice and refreshing and brings attention to little indie gems! :) Granted, I also like it when you analyze stories with mysteries and implications that aren't fully spelled out in the game and theorize about what it all means, but I'd rather you talk about unknown darlings than analyze oversaturated ones.
There is one more ending. If Jane Doe is the only casualty, then events happen differently. Since there is no record of Jane Doe, no one believed or looked into her disappearance and Vermander can try the ritual again.
i appreciate that the good ending was good for all characters involved, including vermander and his change of heart. his character development, although through extreme circumstances, is something i feel that makes it a truly good ending.
Missed the Faux Good ending if Jane Doe is the only one the demon grabs
She's literally a Jane Doe so the police can't do anything, so Eda and Morton don't get arrested, and the town and hospital end up being fine, though Eda and Morton feel disappointed they couldn't do more for Jane
Glad that you had made a video on this game. The creator deserves the recognition on being able to make a game that is both silly, creepy, unique art style and writing. As some of the expensive games, with major teams that take years to develop, have been disappointing.
good ending was truly good for every one. This game should be a lesson that some people who are wealthy and influential should not be if they use this for their only purposes, even if it was connected with using demonic entities or powers.

the whole game is great.The good ending is my favorite ending ever from a horror game and although I hate bad endings, the ones in Thai game were well written. I love the characters and how even the one hateable one redeems himself (after getting his hair desserts pu pu pu)

That good ending felt "good" to read and listen to. This would make a great short movie.
I love how the Characters just believe and accept the fact that a demon is coming for them, like, they didn't even feel terrified or paranoid by it. They just know what's up and try to intercept the demon's massacre.

i heard that the three games (the man from the window,the shadowcatcher and the vermander curse) are connected on the same universe,my theory it is that those games take place in the same,small town! what if vermander previous curses atracted all those creatures we meet (the man from the window, the shadowcatcher and the shadow family and of course, the demon itself)? i feel like vermander, if my theory's all correct, the true villain and mastermind in these games.
