If I were British, I will also use a more heavier base model engine horse power corvette Grand Sport in this competition. The Automatic transmission only has 430 hp and manual at 436. The hard top base starts @ 60k. This could have been a fair race if they at least use the zo6 If not the zr1. The last time I checked, the gtr cost 125,000 American dollars.
Wrong cars to race. I don't think an XKR buyer would consider a GTR as an alternative. The GTR was built as an out an out sprinter & aimed more at the boy racers & weekend track days. The jag buyer looks for comfort, refinement & then speed. Jag can add twin turbos,4 wheels drive & launch control to their cars if all they were concerned about was 0to60 times & not much else.
Oh, anyone that says the Corvette is better at everything in stock trim is totally biased and wrong. The GTR is a great car, and so is a Corvette. I'm a fan of cars.....and I tell the truth about them. People take that as attack on one car or the other all the time. I don't understand that. It is possible to be honest, it is possible to be unbiased.....and it is possible to be both. It's rare, no doubt, but we few exist.
In the US the corvette grand sport starts at $56000, or just under 36000GBP. 73000 GBP? That's $115000! If you put the Grand Sport in that price bracket of course it's going to get blown away. Put it up against stuff in its price range in the US (370Z, Boxster, Elise, 1M) and it will trounce just about anything.
Why would you choose the Grand Sport convertible and not the coupe for such a test as this? The coupe is the best for this type of race due to aerodynamic and weight advantages.Despite all of her negative comments on the Vette ,I'll take the Grand Sport. It's the best value of all of the cars. What else can you buy which is attainable for under $80,000 and has as much personality, with an engine which produces 430+bhp, is capable of 190+mph without any mods and gets 26-30 mpg on the highway?
Apparently it seems to be so, and i do in fact agree with you.UA-cam merely will only show somewhat biased and controlled testing without factoring any actual multiple tests to really prove one car verses another ect.
@hamdanae12 What if the GM makes an AWD Corvetts but with a option of a manual RWD selectable switch if you want to do burn outs get that feeling of the original RWD?
Godwhitepk she was totally right when the tested the Nissan gtr against the ZR1 it only had 400 + HP and did 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. Now 2013 Nissan GTR black edition has over 500 + HP and does 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. It is also part of the two second club. Over all the Nissan GTR is AMAZING!
Yeah, this is why girls should not do car reviews. I mean really she picked 2 cars with over 500 HP and a price tag around 100k vs a 55k 450HP car. Why not compare the Z06 with 100k price tag and 500+ hp?
you got to give it to the GTR, but it doesn't matter if your beloved car gets beaten you choose that particular car because you like it and suits your taste
All three cars are great vehicles. It is a shame when even a well respected automobile magazine and reviewer compare unlike vehicles. To make this a fair fight, either run a base ZO6 or a GS coupe with a manual trans and put in either a Porsche 911 GT3 or Cayman R in stead of the GTR and compare car for car regardless of price.
She did say "What cars can you buy with 73.000 £?" These 3 cars are in that price range and a Z06, ZR-1 would be much more expensive. I do agree that Corvette is a great sport car, specially Z06 and ZR-1. But you have to agree that in term of quality and durability American cars are a bit behind both Japanese and European cars. There IS a reason why most American cars are often much cheaper than the comparing European or even Japanese cars. But I must say it has started to change for the better.
The corvette's 6.2L was created in late 2006 and only has 2 valves per cylinder, not to mention it is an OHV (overhead valve) engine. Pushrod engines but don't make to much power, and having 2 valves makes significantly less power and slightly less torque. The C7 corvette makes 460 HP and 450 LB-FT of TQ). The NEW Porsche engine that develops 600 HP has twin turbos, 4 valves, DOHC engines and more.(not to mention the c7 makes 28 mpg! thats alot from a 6.2 liter)
Some people need to realize that this is a UK based video, not American. Prices are in £ making the Grand Sport the closest competitor in the price category. I don't understand what's so difficult about that.
@sergeantluz ummm 2007? LOL?!?! Can you please find me a used 2007 GTR ? LOL, IM pretty sure they came out in 2009, 4 years after the C6 was introduced.
@eleonik76 When you say "Next time", I assume you are talking to AutoCar since this is their road test and not mine. My point still stands. AutoCar chooses a convertible, automatic vette with 100 less HP than the other cars and cost $20,000 less than the cheapest "high tech" car. Why not use the Z06? 505 hp versus 530 hp. You like turbo's, check out Nelson Racing Engines here in America. 2000 HP via turbo's. Holla.
How is the ZR1 in the same class? This is a test based on price. The ZR1 costs almost £50,000 more than the GTR. Stop trying to stick up for your little Corvette
@redghost105 hey,its not the GT-R´s fault that it costs almost the same as the grand sport... and the GT-R´S adversary was never the ZR1,it was always the Z06
@Manny32V It wouldn't really have mattered though, would it? The GT-R was clearly so much faster that it would beat the others no matter what. What I find annoying is the fact that they chose the slowest of the Grand Sports, and the XKR only just beat it - maybe the manual coupe would've beaten the XKR?
the Gran Sport is 73k pounds in Europe. Not 73k USD. Pounds are about 1.5 dollars. so its almost 100k USD in Europe. The reason its so expensive is because of taxes and shipping charges. The Z06 would be even more in Europe.
@Danny7930 There is no way that its fully loaded, I'm thoroughly shocked if you guys got those for that much. I'm in Michigan and I bought a fully loaded 08' for about that much early last year.
what happens with the Jag at step off? It's just bizarre how well the GT-R goes considering the power to weight ratios of these cars. Jaguar simply MUST be able to get more acceleration out of that drivetrain.
@war3scecfang the city, you have to pay congestion charge, plus you can only use your car in the certain time of a week due to some stupid regulations. so if you want to drive your car everyday, you have to have at least 2 cars!!!!
I think people are complaining because the test is kind of stupid. Why would you put up basically an entry level Corvette against a GTR? Maybe because the 2012 Z06 Corvette beat the 2013 GTR or a road course already?
@Driftuner "its easy to see why u won't buy the Corvette Grand Sport," was what she said. She also showed viewers for the same amount of money you can buy a jet-like vehicle that cheats physics. I was very surprised to see a long 3 to 4 seconds passed before the vette showed up after the godzilla. I have been a Corvette fan and is still one. But this generation of vette is really getting too old.
How is Nissan shit? They have amazing cars at just about every price point and they generally offer more features/performance than the competition at lower prices.
Its actually in their tagline at 0:04 "Autocar.co.uk FIRST FOR CAR NEWS AND REVIEWS". I guess i actually watched the entire video instead of trying to come up with witty comments, and yours was outstanding!
@jolichja Yeah. Not good cars though. They have two major automobile plants. Saipa and Iran Khodro. They produce a few of their own cars, but also have contracts with other companies to produce foreign cars locally. Some cars from Nissan, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, and Suzuki are made locally in Iran, and they don't get taxed as much to import them in. Iran themselves only make a few models and they export to neighboring countries in Middle Easy, Asia, and few in Europe
@Acidicheartburn thanks for that friend, I really hope they ( the Big 3) could find ways in building much greater cars and I'm sure all of us will be winners...
@sirlonghair yea, but in UK they cost the same mate, so for the same amount of money, u can get c6 or gtr, in that way its a fair comparison, also some ppl would more like to drive the corvette than a nissan, i personaly would buy the nissan even if it would cost 40 grand more
@aemst I agree with you this race is stupid but due to import taxes etc, it ups the price of the Vette overseas. Its a lot more expensive there than it is here, the dollar to pound exchange rates aren't the only factors that apply.
5-7 times what it costs and here you have people trying to justify putting the 1 step above the base model Vette against another companies flagship. Now why don't you tell me how it's not biased again?
Why didn't they compare a Z06 to the GT-R or Jaguar XK-R? That is more in line with this price and performance. The GT-R can't be beat though, but the XK-R is far more expensive than even a Z06.
@2003SCT The G8 (SS,HSV) is so much car for the money and in my job I have test driven many of them and they always bring a smile to my face. The problem we have isn't the car, but the people here that buy them. It's such a shame these cars have this stigma attached. And I totally agree with the Nissan(and really all Japanese manufacturers) line up. Except for a few performance models, there are some boring cars. But besides say Porsche,Ferrari, Aston Martin all manufacturers are now mundane
@Lolzilol123 i know it wouldnt had mattered much but still. thats not a way to test cars in any way. plus the gtr is more in the price range of a z06 not a gs. anyways i would take a gtr over any corvette but in a drag race the z06 will give it a run for its money if they can drive it and that is something that the autocar drivers cant really do.
The Corvette's interior will never, ever change as long as they have an American designing it. How do I know this, you ask? Because everyone of you complain about it's interior. They need to hire an authentic European car interior designer for a change, incorporated hopefully, for the 2013 (C7).
This test was ridiculous...the Grand Sport is not in the same class with the GTR. The GTR runs with the ZR1...and gets beat. I can't believe you selected the heavier convertible, automatic, basic 430 HP Vette. You should have at least made it interesting by selecting a Z06 manuall. The stock ZO6 is still slower than a GTR, but it may have given that Jag a run for its money. I think you need to do your homework before you compare automobiles.
@StuRaz Ok, how is pointing out that a car is not as good as a GT-R an insult? If Jeremy Clarkson was doing the review, he would have called it a car for people who are incestuous or something absurd like that. She actually loves the car but what she pointed out was the truth. Its simply not as good as a GT-R (no car is actually) and the XKR is more sophisticated. Cheers.
@MrMadpenguin Plastic or not, the Corvette is still the best of the best. We don't need to slaughter 100 cows and 60 sheep just to have a fancy interior you can sit your ass down in. We Americans keep it simple, build a fast car that can kick the shit out of the rest. What's the point of having top of the line interior and what not, when all you're going to do is rip all that stuff out to make the car even lighter? Do the Europeans ever think about this? If we wanted that, we'd buy a Rolls Royce
As an American, I feel obliged to show some patriotism towards the Corvette, but I just can't. Yes, it is a fantastic performance car, but its road manners are poor and the interior gives a 1992 Hyundai a run for its money. In fairness, though, Autocar should not have tested an automatic, and the Grand Sport makes more sense in the States b/c we don't have to worry about import prices. All in all, GM needs to release the C7 already.
Like Chris Harris said, the level of fetishism of the GT-R is incredible, Model Year 2012 has details such as an asymmetrical chassis. Whoever thinks the GT-R is a characterless car is missing the point.
The Corvette should have come in second. This isn't the first autocar video I've seen where the American car didn't perform to what the numbers and, indeed, every other magazine/video have shown it should.
why is everybody fighting? don't you relise that not all youtube comments end up on redit? stop trying to come up with witty things to say and bitching at each other. the corvette will also have different specs from europe and USA, not to mention the quality of fuel is better in europe
@aemst Yes - you've made exactly the right point. In its home market the Corvette is a real winner. But in Europe, especially the UK, it loses credibility due to price.
The Jag is much faster than that if you let the trans switch gears on its own.Human shifting on the Jag slows the car 5 car lengths behind down
If I were British, I will also use a more heavier base model engine horse power corvette Grand Sport in this competition. The Automatic transmission only has 430 hp and manual at 436. I did take it.
Ditto

It is possible to be honest, it is possible to be unbiased.....and it is possible to be both. It's rare, no doubt, but we few exist.
does bringing a grand sport make any sort of sense? why not a z06 carbon edition
Okay the GT-R destroyed the others, but i would have the jag - the XKR is a stunning looking car whereas the GTR is very ugly
Although outdated i am wondering WHY, WHY, WHY you did not post the speeds and times. Even indicated speed would have been fine. WHY?
Are these vehicles in the same class I think not, why not the ZR1
Why would they think comparison make since?? ZO6 would be nice
since what or when?????
Dewd Pife I think he makes "Sense". :)
In the US the corvette grand sport starts at $56000, or just under 36000GBP. 73000 GBP? That's $115000! If you put the Grand Sport in that price bracket of course it's going to get blown away. Everytime I watch a video where a GTR is racing anything...I just watch something else.
I can never get over the sheer fugliness of the GTR no matter how quick it is.
Apparently it seems to be so, and i do in fact agree with you.UA-cam merely will only show somewhat biased and controlled testing without factoring any actual multiple tests to really prove one car verses another ect.
I would like to point out that the Corvettes are NOT drag vehicles. Lets see how they perform on a cart track.
@twztd28 and you think costa rica's expensive? where i live, all cars are subjected to a 200% tax in addition to the base price and road taxes?
did the GT-R and XKR have a automatic gearbox as well?
actually you had the xkr with the speed pack
I own the silver Jaguar XKR 5.0 V8 too that produces 510 horsepower. It is very fast.
the 2005-present Chevrolet Corvette is assembled in
Bowling Green, Kentucky, United States
@hamdanae12 What if the GM makes an AWD Corvetts but with a option of a manual RWD selectable switch if you want to do burn outs get that feeling of the original RWD?

The price of Vettes after tariffs make the GS a viable comparison in the price segment. It's something many Americans seem to forget.
@Manny32V They are comparing the prices in Europe. A Z06 is almost twice the price of a GT-R in the UK.
@aemst The 370z isn't in the same price range as a Grand Sport. A fully optioned out 370z is like $38k tops which is still cheaper than a base C6.
@alx187
because they're comparing it for price?
that said, the GTR shouldnt have been compared, the jaguars are different car also
I love when some people ramble on and make outrageous claims about stuff they know nothing about......:)
wtf 4.8 the 6 speed hits 60 in 3.9 the zo6 3.6 and zr1 3.4 seconds get it right even the bace corvette hits 60 in 4.3 seconds
Yeah, this is why girls should not do car reviews. I mean really she picked 2 cars with over 500 HP and a price tag around 100k vs a 55k 450HP car. Why not compare the Z06 with 100k price tag and 500+ hp?
Cup Deez yea man and she got the auto vr of this car wtf . and the 100k zo6 with the sport tires is a true beast
Cup Deez Indeed! Or the ZR1, that would be fun!
@Bergy427 Price doesn't matter?
you got to give it to the GTR, but it doesn't matter if your beloved car gets beaten you choose that particular car because you like it and suits your taste
Gotta see a koenigsegg Bugatti and rimac drag race sometime on this channel this year that would be really awesome
@amitapextgi Ok what cars would you use as a comparison?
@black93z28camaro Mclaren MP4-C?
All three cars are great vehicles. It is a shame when even a well respected automobile magazine and reviewer compare unlike vehicles. To make this a fair fight, either run a base ZO6 or a GS coupe with a manual trans and put in either a Porsche 911 GT3 or Cayman R in stead of the GTR and compare car for car regardless of price.
after the GTR crossed the line i was waiting for the XKR and i fell asleep
@Anoush13 That is sadly how it is in countries which dosent have a huge amount of export tradeing.
@kentuckyexplosion Of course, the Jag is auto-only and the GT-R has a dual clutch robo-manual.
9 out of 10 videos i see about the Nissan GTR... Nissan wins... the other 1 is usually against a Bugatti Veyron lol.
When Jaguar makes a sports car, they create them to become the TRUTH
Sadly, the truth is that Jaguars are still very unreliable.
you can't compare what is made for crusing with stronger race version.
You couldn't have waited for a manual Vette?
She did say "What cars can you buy with 73.000 £?" These 3 cars are in that price range and a Z06, ZR-1 would be much more expensive. @kungfumaster901 They do? how?
Sorry Swype struck again that is gtr not gyro and c6 not x64.
@sergeantluz ummm 2007? LOL?!?! Can you please find me a used 2007 GTR ? LOL, IM pretty sure they came out in 2009, 4 years after the C6 was introduced.

@twoeggcups Cool who you think would win in a war?
@26929 Well I mean in Costa Rica just for comparison... They would pay about $120,000-140,000.
How is the ZR1 in the same class? This is a test based on price. The ZR1 costs almost £50,000 more than the GTR.
Stop trying to stick up for your little Corvette
@StuRaz all I'm sayin is its not fair when you put a bottom line vette against a top of the line GTR...put it against a Zr1 then see which one wins
@adzmorris Thats the camaro youre talking about
@redghost105 hey,its not the GT-R´s fault that it costs almost the same as the grand sport...
and the GT-R´S adversary was never the ZR1,it was always the Z06
why grand sport and not z06
@black93z28camaro Doesn't seem so in this case, does it? I'm sure there are loads of cars superior to the Mclaren MP4 12C made in the US.
Did she just say a zr1 costs 124,000 £?? In the states it costs 100,000 $
@Manny32V It wouldn't really have mattered though, would it? The GT-R was clearly so much faster that it would beat the others no matter what.

@Hello6761 My point is, for the money they could have picked a faster car that met their criteria better(ie: actually being a coupe).
Good video the gyro is a marvel, but I'm just not sold on it in the looks department. Looking to get a used x64 in the future.
@militarymatt1980 LOL easy comparison. This is in the UK. In the US, the GT-R is 20K less than a ZR1.
what happens with the Jag at step off? It's just bizarre how well the GT-R goes considering the power to weight ratios of these cars. Jaguar simply MUST be able to get more acceleration out of that drivetrain.
@iiredeye corvette in the same price band, possibly Z06 or Zr1
I feel sorry for the europians because that corvette in the U.S cost around 40 thousand pounds but I guess in Europe they charge the transportation
@militarymatt1980 They're comparing based on the price range. American cars are quite a lot more expensive in Europe so it seems fair to me.
They got a Automatic Corvette grand sport convertible. I shook my head so hard its now dislocated.
@war3scecfang the city, you have to pay congestion charge, plus you can only use your car in the certain time of a week due to some stupid regulations. so if you want to drive your car everyday, you have to have at least 2 cars!!!!

5-7 times what it costs and here you have people trying to justify putting the 1 step above the base model Vette against another companies flagship. Now why don't you tell me how it's not biased again?
I know that but in America it's near $10,000 cheaper best value depends on where you live I suppose
In the US thats a $50,000 automatic convertible against a $95,000 GT-R
Why didn't they compare a Z06 to the GT-R or Jaguar XK-R? That is more in line with this price and performance. The GT-R can't be beat though, but the XK-R is far more expensive than even a Z06.

The Corvette should have come in second. This isn't the first autocar video I've seen where the American car didn't perform to what the numbers and, indeed, every other magazine/video have shown it should.
it's is a stupid test, but i'm pretty confident in saying that any 2 wheel drive nissan handles better than 2 wheel drive chevy
I want back the three minutes i spent watching video. Review FAIL
why is everybody fighting? don't you relise that not all youtube comments end up on redit? stop trying to come up with witty things to say and bitching at each other. the corvette will also have different specs from europe and USA, not to mention the quality of fuel is better in europe
Better check your numbers. This is in £ remember not $. GTR is £74,480, Corvette GS is £73,228 and Jaguar is £78,930.
corvette specs are faster than both of those cars.
@aemst Yes - you've made exactly the right point. In its home market the Corvette is a real winner. But in Europe, especially the UK, it loses credibility due to price.
Reading some of these comments makes you realize people have no fucking clue what the definition of quality is.
