Hi everyone. Thanks for watching my new Mary's Mini updates video. In this video, I incorrectly mention that Dr. Bernard wrote Mastering Diabetes. That should have been Reversing Diabetes. Obviously, those of you that read all this stuff know what I was talking bout, but just so there is no confusion for the rest of you, I said the wrong word for the title of the book. They are both great books in either event. Thanks. -Joey
Yes, I noticed it but realized what you meant. I've been on the Mastering Diabetes Plan since Jan 1st of this year and WOW, the changes are incredible...lost 43 lbs in 5.5 months, A1C went from 7.4 to 5.9 in 6 months and got OFF Jardiance completely (still on Metformin), and feel great. I also follow Dr. Bernrad on FB too, very similar program, both being WFPB-low fat.
I’ve been a “McDougaller” for over 25 years now and remember well when Mary’s Mini was first published in the McDougall newsletter. I’ve always done a brown rice based mini with rice and blueberries for breakfast. To be honest, when fruit was dropped, I ignored it, as I was only eating one fruit per day, and it was blueberries for goodness sake, - which I consider essential to a healthy diet. 😋👍Glad to see a return to normalcy.
I also remember when Mary's Mini was first published. Has it been 25 years already? Sheesh, time flies. I was in the chat room when it was first discussed. I was confused at first. I thought we were supposed to try to have as much variety with the potatoes as we could come up with for each meal. But no. We're supposed to repeat the same daily meals.
I hate saying meat for non- meat things too! Like eating ‘Mock Tuna Salad’, what’s wrong with Chickpea Salad? I actually call it sandwich spread :) yum And thanks for the fabulous info!
I agree why should we be always camophlage everything for the sake of meat.neat should not be the everything.we are proud to be veg eaters and should say it the right way.i don't miss meat at all so I don't look up recipes to make my veggies like meat

Sorry to hear about the loss of your bro-in-law. He was an important part of your life & family...even if not a daily thing. Be a lot selfish, Joey, and stick around for family, friends & your world. Each of us are here for a reason although we might not know why.😿💕
Joey, I am so sorry for your loss. 😢 This was a very helpful video. I really appreciate your opinion and perspective about cooking the potatoes twice lowering the impact on the glycemic index of white potatoes. Have you tried the Hanna Yams? They are so delicious!
By the way I love this update to Mary’s mini. My husband and I did one for a week a while back and added the fruit just because we were hiking a lot and it was convenient for the trail. Still lost weight! 🥰🤗
Have u tried blending carrots, ginger, garlic and onion to make a dressing it’s great with a splash of sesame vinegar and some salt and herbs! I’m one who always needed a creamy dressing but the blended veggies give me that same feeling now.
So sorry for your loss 😢 wishing you the strength to endure during these challenging times. Thank you for doing such a great job breaking what is new with the Mary’s Mini.
Hey just so you know I’ve made a great Indian style curry without coconut milk using butternut squash purée (or my butternut squash soup just roasted butternut squash roasted sweet onion blended with some raw cashews) make that the base Bc its very thick then add onion spices chickpeas tomatoes etc and it makes a nice thick creamy curry without half the fat I’ve never tried the butternut squash soup without the cashews I just don’t use a lot
Guten Morgen from Austria! Condolences for your brother in law 😢. I am glad to that they put beans on the list, I am doing a 10 days beans Mary's minis right now, I love beans, they keep you full and satisfied for much, much longer than any other starch, and as far as the glycemic index goes they are the best. I looked for beans Mary's minis challenges on UA-cam and internet but found not a single one 🤷🏻♀️, I can not wait until you and other people try it and post the results. If someone is interested how mine went, that I am doing right now, I will tell you gladly. Thank you for the video, very informative, very good explained, God bless you for all the work. Keep the good work 👍🏻
Hello. You wont find a beans Marys mini because they just added beans to the mini in late June, so up until that point, nobody has done a beans mini. Sounds like a good time to start one, right? I am excited to see how you do with it. Thanks so much for watching.
I am whole plant food, sos free and havent lost weight in over a year while still being 50 pounds overweight, so I am here to tell you that you that it is absolutely easy to overdo it in beans and rice. I say sos free, but I am still struggling with salt, and no I don't eat overt fats such as nuts and avocado, although I do add flax seed. For all those looking for a nut-free salad dressing, I found a solution for me that might work for you as well. Anytime a recipe asks for nuts, usually cashews, I substitute it with soy milk and ground flax seed. This way, I am still able to enjoy a somewhat creamy salad dressing. I should mention that I don't normally consume any other soy which I should mention that Dr. Gregger considers is a very healthy item even though it's processed.
Oh my gosh so very sorry for your loss 😢 I lost my beloved sister 2 years ago to brain cancer, know how you feel my friend. Take all the time you need for yourself!
You do not need coconut milk or any coconut product to make curry. JSYK. Most Indian curries do not have coconut products in it. Thai curries incorporates coconut into it.
I usually do mustard/vinegar/a drop of sweetener for dressing, so not oily and sometimes I use 'calorie free' sweetners but it honestly makes a great dressing :) Might not be strictly mary's mini approved, but if it makes you eat salad I don't see it being worse than using ketchup.
May you continue to talk about your loved one. Share your stories about him and keep his spirit close to your heart. He will always be there looking after your family. ❤️

Is this the latest version of Mary’s Mini. I’m asking because this video is two years old. I want to start a rice mini when I return from vacation in ten days. I’m going to use your recipes for the rice.
I don't know about the glycemic index re: white potatoes, but 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Now, my most recent blood tests show my A1C at 5.0 - NO diabetes. I eat all kinds of starches and veggies - my doctor said I'm taking good care of myself, based on my test results.
Lin, did you see my video where my mom came to video. I did the same thing with her. I didn't worry about if the white potatoes were cooked twice or anything like that and her numbers started dropping big time just in the few weeks she was here visiting. The power of potatoes, baby!!Thanks so much for watching.
Sorry for losing your brother and it would of been understandable if you hadn't posted a video. I and your viewers & subscribers do appreciate that you did. Excellent update on the Mary's Mini diet/lifestyle Joey and sending you love 🥰💕 during this difficult time.
The thing about beans or grains requiring things for nutrition. A mini is only 10 days. Vitamin A is fat-soluble and most people have enough for a week to 10 days. People water fast longer than that. You can always supplement for that week.
