"A sense of justice beyond any compare" is such a great, underrated line that sets up a lot and delivers even more under the radar.
It's got at least five meanings, but only two of them are really accessible to non programmers. The easy interpretations are that either Rock's sense of justice is better than anyone else's, or that it is literally alien to anyone else's. The ultraliteral interpretation is that his sense of justice is higher priority than any other comparison test. A different literal interpretation is that it's part of the main program loop, which is typically the last piece of code that gets compiled before execution can begin, thus being beyond the reach of any lower level comparison. The most abstract and impactful interpretation is that his sense of justice is not derived from any particular comparison statement, but rather it is an implicit and emergent feature of his code running. More succinctly: the sense of justice is unintentionally defined by Rock himself, and Rock is himself unintentionally defined by his sense of justice.
And then there's the fact it prepares the rhyming delivery of "I gave you hair", which highlights the ridiculous detail that Dr. Light went into. After that the obvious question arises: where did the sense of burden come from if Light didn't implement it in the sense of justice? The man is meticulous to absurdity, and yet he doesn't know why Rock is setting out on his crusade. Later songs highlight Rock's anxieties and growing criticisms of Dr Light, which can all be considered manifestations of this emergent feature. This comes to a head in History Repeating: Red, as Blues managed to prey on these anxieties in his arguments with Rock. They were only resolved after this sense of justice was hammered on by a vengeful version of itself, as it let Rock finally realize that his worries were literally noise that hampered him from solving immediate and concrete injustices.
It's a really powerful line that supported half of the discography, and yet nobody will remember it because it was followed up by robot hair.
Dang. I'm a programmer and even I didn't realize that. That's genius.
"They call you hero...
I call you my son"
Man... Thinking from Light's perspective every time you die in a Mega Man game makes the death infinitely more sad. I always just viewed it as a robot being destroyed, but to think that he effectively loses his son, is just... Damn.
Dont do that to me.
I love that sweet riff after he says "this is the message from doctor light" because I imagine Dr. Light busting out a guitar and playing that, and everyone's confused.
+Nerdking 527 Headcanon: Accepted.
And Rock, Roll and Blues are there watching, talking to each other but looking at Light.
Blues: And people wonder why I ran away.
Roll: Please don't joke about that.
Rock: Trust me, this could be much worse. He still has his martial arts uniform, remember?
Blues: He has a martial arts uniform?
Roll: You'd know that if you didn't run away.
Blues: Fair enough.
@@seemo5789 Ryu trained dr.light.
I GAVE YOU HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This needs more likes
ROBOTIC HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIR!
Broworks10 What's Light's favorite music genre? HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIR metal!
Eugen Arikado But the burning in your heart I did not put there.
Looks like we're in a bit of a hairy situation here.
I just realized Mega Man's crying. Light gave Rock the ability to cry. Light gave a robot the ability to CRY!?
If we follow the Rockman X manga continuity, he did the same for X. Wily did no such thing for Zero.
Icesera Wings Oh God, that manga was horrible. I like to think it's not canon even in it's own canon. "HUMAN BEINGS ARE LIVING THINGS!!!" is the only thing worse than "I hid myself while I tried to repair myself".
***** Keep in mind I was only talking about the first manga story arc. It's the only one I've read, as I've not been able to find other translation. Some of the story is cool, other cliché, but overall, I like it. One problem, the translation I found ended at chapter 12, so right as Zero died. But this is just me.
"I know now why you cry, but it's something I can never do." Emotions are important. Not just the ability to feel them, but the ability to EXPRESS them. Light was trying to create a sentient robot, a robot that could be considers "alive". He succeed with X, but some of what X that way developed in the original Mega Man. Either by design or on their own.
He gave his *son* the ability to cry.
this world, gave me not child so i build one
I cry whenever I hear this song for many reasons:
1.) It is a musical masterpiece and warms my heart.
2.) It's just too awesome not to want to tear up in wonder and astonishment!
Alexander Tirado also the concept making your own child see him in pain and also knowing that he'll never truly feel or understand always wondering if you've done right and seeing him wonder if he's just a tool a weapon or.. a son
I've recently attempted to read the comic pictured here, as I am trying to read all of the Mega Man comics, and for the life of me I can NOT read Dr. Light's line without singing it in my head! :P
ROBOTIC HAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
what comic is this?
luccagiovani megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Mega_Man_Issue_3_(Archie_Comics)
@luccagiovani Not sure if this will do you any good, it likely being almost 8 years since you posted and all, but it's the Archie Comics Mega Man Vol. 1 I think
Wait, slow down... didn't this song come out before the comic. This is why I love the internet. Fans reach the professionals and this panel in the comic above comes into existence.
This song firsr came out in 2008, and the comics came out much later.
All dem feels...
X needed that too, he needs a fatherly figure.
whoa wait this came before the comic
hold on I need to go this is just too cool for my life to understand
Yeah the comics trys it best to reference everything hell they referenced the megaman megamix mangas
they also referenced I'm not the break man... it was fucking awesome to.
+sonerec725 they even have referenced what if megaman had lyrics and the megaman mangas
@@fistpump64 super fuckin late to this thread but do any of you know if there was a protomen reference as well?
@@FrosttGames surprisingly I don't think there was, unless they referenced the Will of One reference in Annihilation of Monsteropolis that was also referenced in Haystack Principle
No. Archie Comics took the line from The Megas. They confirmed that they were asked if Archie Comics was allowed to use that lyric in their comic.
Best. Comic Panel ever.
Ah, Archie Mega Man.
"I don't need your "logic..." Because MY HUGENESS IS SUPREME!"
OK i can't stop ; listening VERY GOOD SONG!!!
@Americanbadashh I was merely remarking on the fact that Rock/Megaman is simply a robot, whereas X has emotions and the capability to comprehend his actions. Megaman defeats his robot brothers simply because their master threatens the life of Dr. Light and the whole world. He is simply following the Rules of Robotic Intelligence. X defends the world from the tyranny of Sigma's forces because he KNOWS them to be a vile organization. Also, yes I know it's from a recent comic. Thats not in question
Holy crap.... This song is fucking amazing... How have I never listened to it before?!
Nice! This is a wonderful supplement to all of the Protomen stuff I have been listening to lately.
You know this reminds me of astro boy (well the 2003 series anyway) though thats probably because I'm playing astro boy omega factor (great but under apreciated GBA game I recommend downloading a GBA emulator and checking it out) while listening to it. Megaman was originally supposed to be a licensed astro boy game though so I guess the comparison isn't completely baseless.
Underappreciated? You can't talk about action games on the GBA without someone mentioning it.
Kenpokid4 Really? I barely hear anything about it, I must be out of the loop.
Awwww, don't cry Rock-kun!!!!
* glomps and cuddles Rock-kun until he stops crying and smiles
It looks like Pirate Bay has up to issue 25. Still, the people who worked on this series did a great job; if you like it, buy it. Volumes of 4 issues+ occasional bonus material are available at 10 bucks a pop on Amazon at the moment.
Good song.
The ultimate fan game: Megaman + Cave Story + Portal. Nuff said.
and doing a damn good job at both of them
"Hair" sounds so epic in this song.
Why not? They're cool. Always looked up to those guys.
it's made by archies video game comics you can probobly find it at a local book store along with some sonic the hedgehog comics they've been writing for a while, they're planning to do a mega man and sonic crossover soon, so if you don't want to get lost I suggest you get reading some back issues
not sure if joking or if you really think archie comics is one guy named archie who became famous through his sonic the hedgehog comics
@Bumblebee13241 it's probably at comic stores now it's the archie megaman from the art
"heh, robot hair " ...
robot hair dude, hes gonna need like, laser scissors to get that in order ;)
Looks like Cut Man will finally be able to get his cut.
HOLY SHIT! ARCHIE QUOTED THE MEAGAS!!!
A comic book store. Made by Archie Comics bro. They also do the Sonic Comic. And currently doing the SonicxMegaMan Crossover
So, did the Archie comic line come first? Or the song?
@OrangeBandanna They've noticed, but they weren't credited or asked.
@Bumblebee13241 Archie Comics, this is a panel from Issue 3, I think.
@Gameorama91 maybe its made from really thin metal strings then, like on guitars ? ;D
@DirtyNerd86
It's from the recent comic book
I feel so bad for Bumblebee and Bulletmoaf... they're probably getting a bit tired of recieving comments from people responding to comments made almost a year ago xD
@Bulletmoaf why do you think he built Cutman?
Better yet, put both in and add Megaman X!
"HEY, CUT MAN!"
Well, hey, they were saying Cave Story, Portal and Metroid Prime.
@Americanbadashh Thankyou :D
its a good comic
In the comic book store, for 2 dollars, and 99 cents.
Found it, go to your local comic book store, see if they have anything by Archie Comics, this is the Archie's megaman comics, started in 2011
@Bumblebee13241
It's the Archie Megman comic issue #3
thats what cutman was for
Where can I read these for free.
(starting with volume 1)
I searched everywhere but it's either a summary or I get faked out.
@Bulletmoaf Use no. 3 for Cut Man's weapon.
it was at free comic book day. i picked it up, and i'm gonna get some more issues soon. it was great, no action in the first issue though, just story
You can all thank me for starting this conversation NOW.
I SAID NOW.
HuzzahForBiscuits What conversation?
@Bulletmoaf
from (kung fu)cutman:P
You should never feel sorry for a man named Bulletmoaf.
@KureejiiLea Oh, I see.
@Bulletmoaf But it flows in the wind :O
I GAVE YOU HAAAAAAAAAAAAIR
This song is beast. But I gotta wonder about the picture... I've never seen Megaman/Rock cry. X is the one with emotions, no?
@Bulletmoaf Now I understand why Dr. Light made Cutman...
I GAVE YOU HAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@mrrumbucket or Cut Man maybe ? -_-
WHERE CAN I FIND THIS FUCKING COMIC?!?!?! I WANT TO READ IT!!
Your avatar matches your comment so very well.
Didn't Archie Comics also do the NiGHTS into Dreams Comic?
Let's add in Sonic and Mario to the mix
Heh, Vile. I see what you did there.
what came first this song or the comic?
Considering the comic is probably archie and The Megas came out around 2010,i'd say the song first
The comic came out in 2011,Get Equipped (the album this song is from) came out 2008.
ClassicGameGuys Yeah it really is cool. The Megas are awesome.
hey capcom loves fan stuff they paid them and the protomen for a 25th anniversary cd
@mavrickindigo ...*sigh* it was a joke.
Or Cut Man.
@Reyalejandro13 to be a lumberjack.
THE INTERNET
@WARE357 how the fuck is megaman more advanced than x??
i think its megaman´s comic from archie´s comics
I'm not sure if they did that, but I know they do a Sonic comic
It's real! The same people who made the sonic comic are the ones who made the MegaMan ones, there's even two crossovers between the comics called "Worlds Collide" and "Worlds Unite"
@mrrumbucket >Metalman not Cutman
Wait... Cutman had a pair of scissors on his head and attacked with them... Was that his true purpose?
Cutman was a log cutting robot before being taken over by Wily
Dude... you've never heard of Archie?
they both do but mega has been programmed not to show them as much
like that comic but hate oil man, only protoman deserve to wear a scarf
I don't know...I think the beats in this song conflict with each other at certain points.
***** *Gasp* The spies have finally found me...I knew this day would come
...
Also theoretically, if you notice the trends of interest I have on the page (Megaman being one of there) there's always a chance that you'll find me in related video comments.
;(
Hah thats waht ya get for commenting on awesome shit!
Cut out Portal, replace it with Metroid Prime!
