  • In this video we explain how to care for your Cherry Bonsai tree, also known as the Prunus serrulata. Watering, pruning, fertilizing - all these topics are discussed. Keeping a Prunus Bonsai alive is not a difficult task, but there are a few things you should be aware of. For more information, also check:
    www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-spe...
    Bonsai trees are planted in small pots with minimal space for water and nutrient reserves. That means you need to water and fertilize your tree regularly. Make sure your Bonsai gets plenty of light, water, and fertilize when needed and your tree is sure to thrive!
    If you are not entirely sure about your tree species, you can use this guide to ID your Bonsai:

    If you want to learn more about Bonsai, consider enrolling in one of our Online Bonsai Courses. For the curriculums and free lectures, go to:

    This video was filmed in the Japanese garden of Clingendael. We also like to thank Deshima Bonsai.

    Thank you! I have some knowledge now that will help with my cherries. They were like 10 foot tall I dug up and chopped 2 years ago, seem to be developing nicely but they did not bloom this last spring like I had hoped. I am hopeful for next spring!

    A particularly good video! QUESTION: Do all of your recommendations in this video apply to most Prunus - apricot, almond, plum, etc?

      These are quite similar but not exactly, the video was made specifically for the cherry. Some more info: www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/cherry-prunus

    During the winter should I leave my prunus in the garage or green house? Also do you water the prunus the same way where you don't let it dry?

    My region never gets a freeze during the winter. We normally get low temperatures in the 40s F (4-9C). If I decide to have one, should I mimic winter by putting it in a refrigerator?

      No absolutely not :) The tree will be fine outside, year round.

    It applies for every kind of cherry? I have a Prunus Padus ( Bird Cherry )

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  2 роки тому

      The Prunus padus is not closely related to the Japanese flowering cherries - but the care guidelines are quite similar. Best is to look up info specific on the padus though :)

    Is an ordinary cherry suitable for bonsai or do you need a certain type? I saw cherries with small leaves in the photo, is this a special kind or does the tree itself reduce their size over time due to the pot? Thanks in advance for your reply.

      You could, my favorite is the Japanese cherry, Prunus serrulata - if you can find that one you'll have a tree with smaller leaves.

    Hello, thank you for your informative video. May I know if you are based in Den Haag as I recognized this video is taken in the japanese garden in Clingendael. I am learning to create bonsai and it will be very nice if I can connect with you. Best regards, Helen Chen

      The video was shot there, but we're not based in the Hague. On our website you will be able to find lists of bonsai clubs near you though!
