  • In this video we explain how to care for your Sageretia Bonsai tree, also known as the Sweet plum or Bird plum Bonsai. Watering, pruning, fertilizing - all these topics are discussed. Keeping a Sweet plum Bonsai alive is not a difficult task, but there are a few things you should be aware of. For more information, also check:
    www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-spe...
    Bonsai trees are planted in small pots with minimal space for water and nutrient reserves. That means you need to water and fertilize your tree regularly. Make sure your Bonsai gets plenty of light, water, and fertilize when needed and your tree is sure to thrive!
    If you are not entirely sure about your tree species, you can use this guide to ID your Bonsai:

    This video was filmed in the Japanese garden of Clingendael. We also like to thank Deshima Bonsai.

      @@ollieknuckey9781 mine has the classic bend in the trunk and a triangular shape canopy of the leaves, I repotted it last summer using acadama soil and it settled in well in its larger pot, just started giving it fertilizer again, I never thought it would survive when I first got it as a birthday present, did loads of research which made it possible, I prune it quite often

    what do you mean exactly by 'trim back to 2 leaves?' can you please explain? i have this exact bonsai tree and I can tell it's overgrown but i don't understand how to prune it correctly.

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  2 місяці тому

      So if any branch has, say, 6 leaves. Cut 4 off - back to 2 leaves. This is a good way to trim back a tree that is overgrown. Focus on branches that grow outside of the desired canopy.

    How do you create a Bend in the main trunk? I know you use wire but how:)

    • @custommodelmaking4969
      @custommodelmaking4969 2 роки тому

      If the branch is long but not hard you can bend it with wires to hold in place, after a while the branch will grow hard and stay in that form and canb remove the wire, some wires are left on the tree forever as they can be difficult to remove without hurting the tree.

    How can I thicken its trunk. Should I plant in the ground or a big pot I'd fine for developing the trunk

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  2 роки тому +2

      To thicken a trunk, you need lots of growth - bigger pot and little pruning so the tree grows strongly. We have some videos here on youtube.

    Is it ok for it to be placed towards the north?

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  Рік тому

      Well, more light is better - it needs some hours a day of direct light to thrive

    Hey, which soil mix is recommended for the Sageretia?

    • @bonsaiempire

      Standard bonsai substrate will be fine - see www.bonsaiempire.com/basics/bonsai-care/bonsai-soil
