Because we have to live with it just like we live with other risks. If you want to lock yourself indoors go ahead. We did it for two years, every gathering was illegal, being told we can only meet with people from two households even at Christmas. Having to gether masked and never see smiles and experience normal human communication. I did it and would prefer to be dead than continue like that.

    • @EvilMonkey7818

It will never be gone, just like the other 4 endemic coronaviruses that cause common colds. They did a lot more damage when they hit the scene too. And now the average age of the dying is higher than it was in 2020, when there were no vaccines. The vaccines are indeed effective at preventing death, so many of those elderly deaths are not related to Covid, but rules in place force them to be categorized as such. Mandates and enforced measures are trade-offs, not consequence free.

You seem to be alluding that the above people who have worked the larger part of a decade to learn about something they're passionate about, from a collection of medical literature to be better equipped to help people now and in the future, to be less credible than people who are simply reading into comments on a message board and thinking they have infallible and profound discoveries of the universe in their hands and share them like they are fact without there ever being any proof of such.

I live in Toronto too and I’ve always said Dougie-Dolittle wants to see no evil and hear no evil. 🙈🙉 He wants to bow and cave to the minority maladaptives who sees no evil and hears no evil and doesn’t like wearing masks. He wants his votes. But most intelligent people are still wearing their masks and double masking too. I work with the public so I’m double masking. But it really is disturbing to see so many really maladaptive people want to pretend Covid and it’s variants are over. Tell that to the healthy children who can’t get vaccinated yet who are landing on nebulizer treatments because they can’t breathe with the Omicron variant. Or land in the hospital ~ my lovely local grocery store clerk’s healthy grandson - landed blue in the hospital from Omicron Covid Croup. And the doctors were telling his Mom that they’re getting a surge of children with Covid Croup from Omicron that they never saw before with earlier variants. And I got a “mild” OM1 infection in Feb and still have a hoarse voice from it. My doctor said it inflamed my larynx. And I’ll need to see an ear, nose and throat specialist next month if it doesn’t resolve by then. Covid is nothing to mess with and it doesn’t go away wth denial or magical thinking. Lol! In fact all you do is create more variants. And now for the first time since Covid landed on the scene the flu virus is spreading too which is not the norm for spring. Can you imagine with so many unmasked the twain meeting and making a Flu-Covid variant? 🫣 We really can’t afford to be in denial. Maybe we should call him Dougie-DoLittle-Denial. Lol!

The health measures were never sustainable, nor were they ever sufficient. The hard truth is that we are unable to conquer the disease; we can only do so much. We have vaccines now; we didn't before. This helps. But we also have economies that must continue to run well enough to enable any measures at all to be taken. And we must risk death in order to survive.
The ongoing situation is dynamic, ever-changing. And it is most certainly time to stop cringing and accept the fact that the world never was a safe place. It is complete hubris to expect that we can control it all, and complete cowardice not to accept some risk. I don't want to die any more than the next person, but I also don't want to die quivering in fear. Let's live; let's live sanely; let's live or die with courage. We're at war with this disease. In war, there is more than one way to become a casualty.

Thanks for pointing out the hypocrisy. The constitutional right to access abortion is a much more serious issue since it is duplicating the Civil Rights claim of states rights on a human rights issue. The difference between today and the Civil War however is that we have established an amendment banning involuntary servitude - it's settled. We also have a Supreme Court that is not making judgments that defend this constitutional amendment. So, unlike Covid, the issue of abortion is not only a personal issue that doesn't spread, the pressure to ban it will be the undoing of national integrity, the constitution, and an entire branch of federal government. The stakes are higher than the Civil War now because states are pushing against what has already been established in the constitution and the Supreme Court is not defending it. Very high stakes on top of hypocracy.

I got sick 5 days later (incubation is about 5 days). I learned after the fact when I came back to work that she had done that. Moreover I had made a very bad mistake and shared a perfume card with her the day she had come back to work. What I don't understand is how so many that know better didn't at least show the example of what an individual choice would be, if they are in danger- like you say, all these people are fully vaccinated and boosted, most, if not all, twice boosted, and they have immediate access to the best care in the world- we don't have any of that out here in the real world, unless you are wealthy enough to claim that privilege for themselves..
China has more people in LOCKDOWN than the total population of the United States- these lockdowns are in very industrial areas, and the ports that move raw materials and components, and then finished products going out- they have a backlog of orders to fill, whenever they decide to lift the lockdowns- and when they finally get to where they are going, there will be logjams in trying to unload ships and transport them to where they are going- and now cases are rising, and the very essential people that move these goods are going to be facing at least 2 new sub variants- in an environment of many transport people that are either retiring or simply can't do it- long covid takes its' toll on so many more than anyone is willing to admit, let alone discuss and take into account- focusing on the deaths is important, but focusing on the still living is crucial, to the supply chains, to the food supply, to the economy, to everything- look at what Abbott's political stunt, slowing to an absolute crawl the trade coming over the border in just Texas- or what the freedumb convoy did by blocking major trade route bridges between the US and Canada- and they only lasted a few days at most-

You guys paint a picture of the wealthy being ready and able to move on, while underclasses are vulnerable and not ready.
Yet the street-level view is the opposite... traveling between wealthy and lower-income counties of Maryland, I observe firsthand that virtually _nobody wears masks in the lower income counties_ even as most people ~60% still wear masks in wealthier counties, for example in Montgomery County. It's a remarkable difference that's been in place all of 2022 so far.
So the reality is the wealthy are the least desiring to drop minimal Covid mitigation measures whereas lower-income folks are 100% done with Covid and want nothing to do with even the most simple mitigation measures. This is the reality those of us not ready to let Covid rip need to be addressing, not just blindly iterating the classic class-struggle narrative. That's doing politics, not public-health science.
