  • Blur's Song 2 released on this day 7 April 1997. Woohoo! Only 2 minutes long, and 650 million streams! Not bad for a song that was written as a joke on their record company and late-US grunge. We all know it. I can't be the only guitarist that's jumped around to this. At my age, I probably shouldn't, but there was some Easter chocolate involved.
In the video, Graham Coxon played a black Hayman 3030H, just like this one. I don't know if that's what he played on the original recording, but it's definitely got that clipped trebly tone for the intro. And then it doesn't really matter what guitar he's playing for the chorus - it gets lost with all that distortion from a ProCo RAT. Still, it's a far better guitar than the song gives it credit for - and from one of the great British guitar makers, Jim Burns.
