The Raven is a great poem tho
My research, conducted over the last 15 years, yielded compelling evidence that Edgar Allan Poe was not really the author of "The Raven." It was written, I believe, by Mathew Franklin Whittier, younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Mathew wrote from life, and this poem was a description of a real-life event, which occurred in December of 1841. The set and setting of the poem are literal; it is only the raven, itself, which is symbolic. This was not madness written in imagination by a horror writer, but rather, actual temporary madness driven by grief and a faith crisis. Mathew had published in 1828 about temporary madness--including being treated for it--as a result of unrequited love.
