If you want to change preferred WiFi Band to 5GHz in Windows Computer, then this video is for you, I will show you step by step on how to manually switch Wifi between 2.4 and 5GHz bands.
We will do this by changing wifi adapter channel to 5Ghz in windows 10, this is done by changing the Advanced Wi-Fi Adapter Settings.

hey man i want to use 5g only on my pc and not turn my router to 5g only as my phone uses 2.4g only my router is a dual band router its running 2.4g and 5g simultaneously
I did not have any of these options :/ I have only 2 options that are Enable/Disable options. Power save (not it), and AdHoc 11n (no clue what this is)
How do I get to that tab
5 years later and i love you... this worked perfectly!

😅😅😅 hey bro
When I got a new computer, the speed wasn't as fast as my old one. I used my old commuter's antenna which came with the motherboard to boost my speed. That worked like a charm, but before I did that I bought a WiFi booster which had the option of 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ. I connected to both of them to test the speed and it really didn't increase my internet connection at all until the antenna. Week later my speed dropped from 250+ to barely hitting 45. Thought it was a windows update cause windows breaks everything. Then windows updated again and I got my speed back, only to have it go back to 45 the next day. Then I checked properties on my WiFi and noticed that I wasn't at 5G. This got me my speed back. Thanks for reading this if you did. Hope it works for you!
it says i have 5g support in cmd and i have wireless mode but i dont have preferred band..
So glad I picked this video because it was RIGHT on the money! For anyone else like me, I did NOT have the VHT 2.4G option in the dropdown but I was able to follow his steps for "wireless Mode" changing it from 'auto' to 11a/n/ac and my wifi immediately kicked over to 5.0! Thank you very much!!!!
You are my hero thank you
Yo sneaker
what exactly does this do please reply
You have done this or not plesee tell me
I've been looking for the answer for freaking 2 weeks and finally this guy found it. What a God
Just installed a mesh setup for the first time, got wayyy better connection in all housefloors, my pc however with an asus wifi adapter was like: "nah, 2,4 GHz for you mate" when I now have solid 5GHz everywhere in the house. I had to manually change the Wireless Mode to get it to work though but its an stationary pc so no problem, it wont go anywhere. This tutorial was easy and worked, thank you :)

I knew my internet was better because my phone was getting nearly 200 megabits per second which is around 26mb per second. but my laptop was getting around 30, I then saw my phone was using 5ghz and I looked up how to do it in windows 10. this was the only non indian video I found. Thanks
Excellent guide. I didn't know you could do that in Windows. I've set different SSIDs so I can choose which band without it changing.
Thanks! Disabling 2.4GHz boosted my download by 33% and upload by 90%.
All fine and dandy, but what I REALLY gained from this is a WAY more stable connection.
oh brilliant ! i needed this, thankyou so much Brian!

Thanks so much. My desktop is in the room next to my router and for whatever reason, when using the Verizon Fios Self-Organizing Network, the PC would only connect using the 2.4GHz band. This took my blazing fast 1GB/s speeds down to a measly 5MB/s. Thanks to your great instructions, I am now connected to the 5GHz band and am running at over 500MB/s. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you so much. I bought a new USB wifi adapter for my older laptop b/c I got a new router and while my phone wifi speeds shot up to 100-200 Mbps, my laptop was only at 35Mbps. They told me my laptop's adapter was too old to work with the faster speeds so I bought a TP Link USB adapter from Amazon and I installed it today, but I was still getting worse speeds than with the built-in one. So I watched this and disabled 2.4ghz and then selected the wireless mode to 802.11ac. Just ran a speed test and my laptop was at 150Mbps. I still don't understand how the 2.4/5ghz relates to the 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac etc., but I guess I won't push my luck, LOL. I guess the only thing I'm wondering, is I thought we' should still able to get high speeds of 100-200 Mbps at 2.4ghz - and if so I'd prefer that to avoid any downside of 5ghz not travelling through walls and floors in the house as well. If anyone can share advice on that I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks.
Right to the point, very helpful! Now my Archer T3U Plus wifi adapter on my desktop is connected to eero 5G instead of 2.4G.
Thanks Brian very helpful for my setup.

None of the options you mentioned in the Properties appear for my Dell Wireless 1705 802.11/b/g/n (2.4 GHZ) network card. See no way to make changes. Update driver returns latest drivers installed.
Because your WiFi adapter doesn't support 5 GHz, just as you mentioned, it is a 2,4 GHz card, it will not have 5 GHz option, as it does NOT support 802.11 ac (or 5 GHz) connection.
it`s because your card doesn`t support 5ghz
My Vista era laptop, with 7 now installed, connects to 5G, while my client's came with 7, upgraded to 10, and wouldn't connect to 5G. They were both Toshibas, mine had a smaller screen, but faster and better hardware; his was a later model (Satellite C650D), and was a cheapie that was a loss leader at some big box store, a 1.6G processor, and only 3G memory (4G is better for 64bit machines), and is generally an old dog, slow and arthritic! I tried a number of drivers for the card, but learned, like yourself, that the client was S.O.L. regarding his machine connecting to 5G, by knowing now how to read the adapter properties, thanks to Britec! I wasted much time trying different drivers for a wlan card that wouldn't support 5G in the 1st place, because I thought it was because it had win 10 installed, and was using a non-compatible driver. Live and Learn!

Help my wifi adapter doesn’t have all those options I’ve got no clue what to do
An easier method for checking your generation is to click your wifi icon, and under your current one, press properties. Scroll down and you should see something called "Protocol" and there next to it would be your generation. (Ex. 802.11n 802.11ac) Note: It won't show all of them, so if you want, do it his way.
mine says "any radio type what does that mean ?"

The 5GHz frequency is less crowded and is faster. The downside is that it has less range than 2.4GHz.
