This is one of my favorites, David. Again, I like your cover better than the original. Well done! And, to think that I've had the privilege of being in your studio. The icing on the cake!
It was a great pleasure to show you my music room Bob and I hope you like this reworked cover version. I thought of you as I was putting it together. All the best, David 🎹🎸🎶👍
Wow! I feel it a great honour that I brought this to you Lainer. The original by Tubeway Army was a massive hit over here in the late 1970s. Thanks for the great comment. All the best, David 🎹🎶👍
Great song and great cover David. Keys, vocal and guitar all at one: well played. :) I’m off for see Gary in April, for his 1000th live show. Great choice of a song to cover.
Cheers Andy, it was great fun to re-visit this one again. Several people commented on the cover I made a few years ago saying that some of the sequences were not quite right. Hopefully I've addressed that and also added an extra layer of synth from my Roland Juno-D as well as some electric guitar. Many thanks for the compliment. All the best, David 🎸🎹🎼👍
Hi John, I found it easier to play the portomento synth part manually. I set the range to 40, then play a G up one octave from middle G, then do 2 more octave drops.
Thanks Terry, yes I have reworked the sequences. The tempo is now 54 BPM and the bass line uses a real bass guitar sound. The added synth layer comes from my Juno-D. I stumbled across this great sound and just had to use it. I'm glad you enjoyed it. All the best, David 🎸🎹🎶👍
Hi Mark, thanks for the comment. I've never tried playing 'Take on me', so it would be a huge learning curve for me to do a full cover. However, I may be able to have a crack at the intro. No promises and it may take a while due to other commitments. All the best, David 🎹🎶👍
Thanks for the great comment Tony. I made a cover of Are Friends Electric soon after getting my JD-Xi and thought it would be fun to redo it now I have a bit more experience. I use the same mic settings for all my vocals and found quite a good setting using the Autopitch, with a little reverb. AP: Soft Pitch Level: 127 Scale: Chromatic Key: A Gender: 0 Octave: 0 Balance: D47:53W These settings work well for me, but may not be suitable for other voices. All the best, David 🎹🎸🎶👍
Well done. Our JdXi sparkles again with your mastery. Good singing too!
Thanks for the great compliment Robert. Yes, the little JD-Xi is an amazing instrument. All the best, David 🎸🎹🎶👍
OMG, you’re a rock hero! Very good, totally brill! 🤖 👏 👏
Cheers Frank, I love playing this song. All the best, David 🎸🎹🎶👍

Nice David, you always know to pick out the good ones. I wish i also could play the guitar instead of only keyboard.
Thanks Peter, the guitar part isn't that complicated, you should get hold of a guitar and give it a try! All the best, David 🎸🎹🎼👍

Must have been years to programme the portemento in the JDXI
Hi John, I found it easier to play the portomento synth part manually. I set the range to 40, then play a G up one octave from middle G, then do 2 more octave drops.
Great work again David, this version sounds like you have tweaked it a bit on the jdxi from the first one.
Very good, dave. Is there any chance of doing aha take on me, please

@David Gordon thanks so much. I look forward to it
Nice one David. Love Are Friends Electric & that’s a fab cover. What setting did you use on the vocoder?
