The First Vampire! Queen Neferata And The Origins Of The Lahmian Sisterhood
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- Queen Neferata of ancient Nehekhara and the city of Lahmia was the first monster we today know as a vampire! An immortal soulless creature that feasts on human blood and burns in the sun due to a curse placed upon their king by the great necromancer Nagash! This is her tale and the tale of the Lahmian sisterhood bloodline

They say that vampirism is an insult to the chaos gods. Khorn hates them because they drink blood that is for him. Nurgle hates them because they are immortal and immune to sickness. Tzench hates them because they are etarnal and never changing. And Slanesh hates them because they are conservative in their pleasure 😂😂😂
Man I miss chaos vampires
Khorne loves them, for the blood WILL flow. (Or they go mad & become monstrous beasts - then the blood flows)
Tzeentch loves them, for they plot & scheme on a scale (in size, & duration) that Tzeentch doesn't miss them every time he blinks
Nurgle & Slaanesh both love vampires for the same reason: Vampirism is a 100% fatal 100% transmissible STD that gives it's victims a potential eternity to spread it.
@@ambustio9807There were such things?
@@muninrob thats your opinion man :)
@@chillax319 yes in 3 or 4 edition really fun stuff I think it was in tzeench and nurgle chaos book
Vashanesh remains one of my favorite characters. Got to love Vladdy Daddy and the Vampire Wars
Wait Vashanesh is Vlad? May I have a source please?
@@therealloveofsanity Of course you can. Firstly the Lexicanum states the following on Vlad's own lore page: "Millennia before the Empires existance, Vashanesh, was the son of King Lahkashaz of Nehekhara by a concubine and hence had the blood of the third dynasty, making him a direct descendent of Nagash himself."
Secondly, there can also be a lot infered from the book "Neferata - The blood of Nagash". Throughout the book, Vashanesh's cunning, charisma, and significant role in Neferata's story strongly foreshadow his transformation into the infamous vampire lord, Vlad von Carstein.
While "Neferata: The Blood of Nagash" primarily focuses on Neferata's exploits, Vashanesh's presence and actions leave an impression. He demonstrates exceptional leadership skills, strategic prowess, and a thirst for power that aligns with the traits later attributed to Vlad von Carstein.
As the narrative progresses, Vashanesh's influence over Neferata becomes more apparent. He acts as her confidant, advisor, and, at times, the voice of reason. This dynamic between them showcases the bond and trust that would later develop between Vlad von Carstein and Neferata.
Furthermore, the book hints at Vashanesh's ambition and desire to create a powerful vampire kingdom. These aspirations align with Vlad von Carstein's eventual goal of establishing a vampire empire in the Warhammer world. The parallels between the two characters' motivations and their pursuit of dominance strongly suggest that Vashanesh is a precursor to Vlad von Carstein.
It's worth noting that the transition from Vashanesh to Vlad von Carstein is not explicitly detailed in "Neferata: The Blood of Nagash." Instead, these hints serve as tantalizing glimpses into the character's future, laying the groundwork for the transformation and allowing readers to make the connection between Vashanesh and the infamous vampire lord of later Warhammer lore.
Finally the end times lore in "The Return of Nagash" reveals the final relation and confirmed that Vlad von Carstein is indeed Vashanesh. But I do not have a page number off the top of my head sorry.

You can always rely on Arch to revive the good old memories from the Old World. Thank you for your awesome work as always !
Gotta say, I love Arch's vampiric lore, in warhammer or VtM. I think they're his second favourite fantasy faction (the skaven are and always will be first, and the Chorfs are third maybe?)
Anyway, as long as they don't glitter
Ah love vampire lore. Neferata has a interesting case of multiple backstory disorder so interested in your take on it.
Even in the eyes of the great necromancer, Vlad is a badass.
Even as a _mortal._
He walked into a court of vampires as a baseline human and was like “I’m in charge.” and when Abhorash himself drew his sword on him he cowed Abhorash without breaking stride.
The humans had Karl Franz, the vampires had Vlad von frickin’ Carstein.
Otherwise known as Vashanesh.
They might call it Old World. Or "The World That Was", but to me it is fresh and new. I am just now learning through the rather deep and nice lore of Warhammer Fantasy. Sometimes it retcons itself. Sometimes it makes no sense. But dangit it is so much better than Age of Sigmar.
Ignore the last/recent Warhammer Fantasy Army books, the backgrounds and histories were altered so that more people would be willing to accept "Warhammer: Age of Sigmar" so the material within the books is rubbish. The uncaring penpushers were unable to even understand the difference between Elves and Eldar. GW even gave "Malekith: The Witch King" a wife (for the first time) AFTER he had been burnt to a crisp...
It’s new to me too, there’s all sorts of different stories and other things to learn about in the Old World, it was built up my GW for decades, even though lots of it is expys of history and other fiction
Nice job with this video Arch.
I hope you can get around to doing some more videos on each of the Vampire Bloodlines from the Warhammer world in the fairly near future.
I would really love to see you cover the Strigoi or maybe the Blood Dragons next.
A nearly hour long lore video! Awesome. You're the best, Arch!
Might not be into wh fantasy. A 53 min lore video by arch has my complete attention! Thanks for making my hour lunch perfect. 👌

W'soran, the very first glowie of the Warhammer Fantasy universe.
I prefer the story from Time of Legends, Rise of Nagash myself. ❤ There, Neferatas transformation into a vampire was accidental, where Archam the black mixed the elixir of immortality with spinx venom that was in the queens body.
Only Arch can say "harmless" and "vampire," in one sentence.
THe Vampire Counts are my favorite WH Fantasy faction. I enjoy thier tactics and the sheer fact that to be a good vampire you must be the most brutual and blood thristy thing around. FOrces me out of my Very Dwarf like defesive play.
Ah the Vampire Counts or as I call them, Codex: Castlevania.
That’s what I’ve been using for my vampire counts army
@@thewanderer1317 You best start playing Bloody Tears on a speaker or something when it's your turn
Been waiting for this since the video on Abhorrash. Loved his lore.
Ooohhh its first vampires in Warhammer! I was so confused at first thinking the was a Vampire:the masquerade video.
Neferata is my fav vampire in ALL of vampire lore
Keep it up Arch, you're appreciated.
The old art is certainly compelling in its imaginative situations, array of characters and variety of costuming -plus squishy bits-
A lot of modern stuff is just so damned samey and featureless. To the extent it looks fresh out of a diy colouring book
hey mate I being wondering if ya will ever do a video on the mechanicus. I dont think you have ever made a video focusing on them yet, was wondeing if you will since they are my favorite faction.
Considering how badly the Lahmian populace were being treated, I’m surprised they didn’t defect as soon as the massive army had arrived. :O
now the Strigoi, the opposite end of the vampire bloodlines
Ushoran deserves his time in the sun, so to speak.
I love this story... Everything around Nagash is interesting.
Banging vid, hope you do one on the Blood Dragons soon.
He already did
@@thesecondguywhoknowsthings7154 ah sweet, thanks dude.
Well this is incredibly different from the books I've read. That being the Rise of Nagash trilogy and the Time of Legends books.
Well he said the source of this video is the Liber Necron, just before warning that it had been retconned over and over before
I miss the days when Vampires were actually scary, instead of being reduced to a fetish for affection starved female teenagers.
Hey, don’t forget the male demographic! Big-Tiddy Vampires are a staple of any well-respecting fetish.
As long as they don't sparkle...
If we ever got her as a Legendary Lord in TWW3, I’d like to see her with as a hybrid Vampire counts faction, with a few Tomb Kings troops, and the special Seduction for her army! Also a unique mechanic would be a special summon Sister who can infiltrate enemy towns/cities and slowly over say, 10-15 turns, takes control of the city and gives it to you without a fight. It would be dependent on the actual level of the city’s constructed tier, as the more built up the longer it would take.
woooooo warhammer fantasy vampires! ❤❤❤I love you arch, your WHF videos are what made me a fan. Youre the best lore youtuber and its stuff like this that keeps me loyal 😊
Oh, hell yeah. I loved Fantasy vampires...and I'm stuck waiting at least another year for DLC for them. FUCK!
I don't understand why Neferata is not in TW Warhammer yet. Easy content for VC ( who do need some love since quite some time) and free strong female characters with lahmian faction that won't bother people because actually in lore and well writen ( since we know ca's and gw's priorities beside spamming DLCs ...)
Espescially now that you've got Grimgor, Greassus and the Chaos Dwarfs giving importance to the east, it just feels weird to beat up lahmian vampires led by ust the generic vampire lord.
Video about Egyptian vampire mommy still talks about how much of a Chad Vlad von Carstein was.
Hear! hear!
love listening to this while playing wh total war. keep the content coming Archi 👍
I really love your fantasy stuff, warhammer fantasy is so fucking cool.
Great video and love the way Vampires are done in the Old World.
Awesome!!!Big Like 🔥🔥🔥
Neferata: Teach me Senpai
Nagash: yes come here little girl but dont tell anyone.
Us: Ok groomer!
I’d love Gotrek and Felix to just bumble in to her home and cause chaos, that’d be hilarious!
The mommy vampire of Lahmia. A great character with plenty of interesting lore, even to one such as myself who dislikes vampires in general.
Luthor Harkon of the Vampire Coast will always be the best vampire in my opinion, with Abhorash of the Blood Dragons being my second favorite. And with a lack of a third to challenge her, Neferata holds the bronze medal with a tight grip. Especially with her being an enemy of Nagash, bonus points to the mommy vampire.
One of the things I actually like about the addition of Erda to 40k is that it continues Warhammers Tradition of nearly every evil beeing related to hoes beeing mad.
That was good thanks arch
That was very refreshing 😅
Amazing work
THANKS ARCH, great to listen to while walking bubs.
Think you could do World of Darkness lore one of these days? As a setting it's an absolute schizophrenic nightmare.
16:33 "Some teething problems" 😂
Vashanesh will always be my fave of the Vampire Counts.... I mean he is very used to being killed.....
The best thing the vampires did was make Queen Khalida.
Best part about arch is the nity gritty details
Excellent. Lore as it should be done.
I knew nothing about vampires except Gotrek and Felix have a passing alliance with one at one point

😫🎸🎵There's a place just south of Witches' Valley
Where they say the wind won't blow
And they only speak in whispers of her name
There's a lady they say who feeds the darkness
It eats right from her hand
With a crying shout, she'll search you out
And freeze you where you stand
Lady evil, evil
She's a magical, mystical woman
Lady evil, evil in my mind
She's the queen of the night!
Alright
In a place just south of Witches' Valley
Where they say the rain won't fall
Thunder cracks the sky, it makes you bleed, yeah
There's a lady they say who _needs_ the darkness
She can't face the light
With an awful shout, she'll find you out
And have you before the night!
Lady evil, evil
She's a magical, mystical woman
Lady Evil, evil on my mind
She's the queen of the night!
So if you ever get to Witches' Valley
Don't dream or close your eyes
And never trust your shadow in the dark
'Cause there's a lady I know who takes your vision
And turns it all around
The things you see are what to be, lost and never found
Lady evil, evil
She's a magical, mystical woman
Lady evil, evil on my mind
She's the queen of the night!
Gonna do it right,
she's the queen of sin

This is a bit different from the Blood Dragon story.
That's what happens when Arch uses different sources xD
Would love a video of Khalida sometime
A bit different from what I heard.
I thought vampires came about due to Nagash's need for competent commanders. He tricked the nobility into becoming vampires, and bent them to his will by his powerful magic. However, this required him to remain at full strength, so when the armies came and weaken him enough, the vampires broke free and ran to the four corners of the world. He still seeks his lost "children" to "punish" them, but has lost too much to really do much of anything.
As for Neferata, I thought she wanted to convert her cousin into a vampire, but was saved by the Asp goddess of beauty and vengeance. Ironically, this would be the only true source of entertainment she would ever experience, because her cousin would rise from the dead every so often, and attack her stronghold. Her poisons proved strong enough to kill vampires, so an actual threat. But for one reason or another, the war ends in a stalemate of sorts with each cousin retiring into a pseudo death state till their next fight.
Wish there was more on the subject!
Neferata, the only woman that makes Queen Jezebel look like the Virgin Mary.
I will eagerly await the Vlad video, mister Arch.
Me too.
ARCH PLEASE USE DIFFERENT BACKGROUND MYSIC IM GOING INSANE
So Arch is now using the Archquistor for both 40k and Fantasy? Interesting choice.
I like 40k, but Fantasy has so many more disparate factions that get to interact with each other regularly outside of warfare. The end times were such a waste of a good setting, and I hope that they just make AoS some alt-universe and bring back the old world
Good news, rumor has that's what's going to happen. Bad news, it's GW is doing it.
Personally I liked the version of events in the nagash trilogy better. But This was interesting non the less
Very interesting
Her brother was most foolish. He knew his sister was a power, but he poo pooed her. She was ONLY a woman after all. So he brought about his own end. She started out with good intentions for her people, but ah, as they say - the way to Hell is paved with good intentions. Her father and the priests going against her for being female - they predicted she would bring about ruin. Self fulfilling prophecy. They brought it upon themselves. The elixir of immortality - and the result, oh this story is so regally mythic! Blood - there are always death penalty criminals - why not use their blood? An ageless queen, whispers, jealously as others seek such immortality. The once good queen now becomes a tyrant. Oh, this would make such a fantastic movie or TV series. But much of 40K is like this - mythic! Thank you Arch for this episode on the first vampire, queen Neferata and the Lahmian sisterhood. The great battle - to see your dead raised against you - terrifying. But that terror can turn to determination to destroy what you consider unnatural. If vampires are immortal - what happens when their body is totally destroyed? Do their souls look for a way to possess another?
It's surprising that they didn't send Gotrek to take that one out...have you heard that extract from Realmslayer? (voice by BRIAN BLESSED) Where he makes his boast to a beast and...it goes not as you'd expect.
Greetings and salutations from Colombia!
Yay more Warhammer fantasy lore
The one thing that the Choas Gods hate other than each other, and the Emperor.
I really hope Neferata gets added to TW3 at some point, though would she be as a Vampire Count, or as a Tomb King?
Would be a hybrid faction like arkem the black.
Neferata is hot. Great vid Arch!!!
I want them to put more vampire clans in the game like Neferata make the lahmian sisterhood corect in the game, read that it isent. There's to much of the living but not enough vampire counts in the game playable or otherwise. And the game could use a faction like the lahmian sisterhood with there manipulations and difrent tactics, im guessing they whould be slightly better at diplomacy and that then combat but still be able to do combat. But tbh i dont really know how they whould do that.
LORE FOR THE LORE GODDDD!!!!!!!
Wait, Archaon the black was yhe guy who helped her become Vanp. Or is this a retcon?
W'soran as the little shoulder devil...any relation to a Deacon Mamon?
He's wrong about a ton of stuff on the Nehekhara lore.
The Lahmians never revolted and and actually wanted to JOIN Nagash during the Nehekharan civil war. Nagash was on the cusp of victory and sacrificed his brother's wife (who was the living incarnation of the covenant of the gods) to break the covenant that Nehekhara had with their gods. When the Lahmian king (who was Nagash's cousin and blood relative btw) saw what he had become and what he had done and how Nagash never intended to give him the secrets to immortality, he backstabbed him out of spite because Arkhan had betrayed Nagash and told the Lahmian king everything he needed to know.
The rest is basically an ark where his sister Nefarata works with Arkhan to unlock the secrets of the elixir of immortality/damnation and the end result is that the Lahmian king had Nefarata poisoned with sphinx venom. Arkhan tried to save Nefarata by using necromantic magic and the elixir of immortality to "subdue" the sphinx venom but ended up killing Nefarata and turning her into a shriveled husk/corpse instead. Arkhan thought he failed and went to go kill the king and succeeded only to be cut down by Abhorash in retaliation.
Nefarata then woke up as an undead abomination, drank/turned all of her handmaidens and started a vampiric rule over Lahmia that lasted for hundreds of years until Alcadizzar found out her true nature, he defeated her and destroyed Lahmia.
He did mention that the source for this video is the old Liber Necron, which has been retconned several times over the various editions and such.
"Oldies, besties". You into gilfs now, Arch?
How can these be the first vampires? Not a sparkly one among them. Love WHFB lore.
the books say arkan the black taught her. he also was the one who fethef up the ritual that turned her. or am i buggin?
You sure this video didn't warrant the epic sounding music you used for abhorash's video.

Hmmmm nagash vs the thousand sons
Neferata is the worst ex. Vlad must have had to put in a lot of effort to keep Isabella safe once the lamians learned about the new ruler of Sylvania.
I despised how the end times treated them, Walach turned cabana boy of Khorn, Isabella taken by Nurgle, Manfred was always a little b1t(h. Neferata got screwed by her brother.
Basically the Bene gisserit of warhammer
Didnt You done this like twice again?
No, first time about her.
