    As an avid antique and art collector, I think Dr. Lori gives sound general advice, but it has to be understood that you cannot spit out all of the details and exceptions in just a couple of minutes. Her opinions are a good starting point, but in collecting anything you have to remember that there are lots of different nuances, rules, and exceptions that a knowledgeable collector would learn over time.

      Exactly! And it's hard to shrink that down for tv or other media. Id love to hear her lecture on art history though

    The large print is an etching that depicts a scene in Bruges, Belgium. The signature is certainly the artist's. Value here in Europe would be like $100 on a very good day.

    Dr Lori as always I love your videos. The amount of arrogance and ignorance in these comments is astounding. So many sheeps it's not funny. I guess when you've been lied to so long buy google and ebay it's hard to believe when a true professional with a PhD comes along. Keep doing what you're doing. We love you and your advice!

    For starters, Dr. Lori is... the... BEST!! Absolutely love everything about her! I've been binge watching her UA-cam videos, and following her on social media for over a year now. She is crammed packed with knowledge, and I've learned SO much from her. I'm 32 , and I'm completely intrigued, possibly a little obsessed with art/artifacts/JEWELRY! etc. What I would give to have the knowledge that Dr. Lori has! Lol🥰 You should see my "things". If you're ever in, or around the St. Louis area, you could always swing on by! 😂😏
    Anyway, I've never left any comments until now. I just wanted to give Dr. Lori a huge thanks for everything she continues to teach us, and for the many laughs.! As well, I wanted to give a huge, HUGE shout out to the host there, on The Balancing Act. Danielle was an absolutely fantastic host! Beautiful, and so polite. She spoke so well, and had such great mannerisms . As well as being super adorable, yet sassy & cracking jokes. She was so entertaining to watch. She seems great at her job, too! She made sure to get everyone's name in there before each item, very smooth and natural. Not coming off so scripted. Literally, the word "Natural" is the best way to describe her. She is 100% a natural at what she does! She seems like she really is an awful, respectful person, and she was able to make me feel all of that from watching just one little short, few minutes video. That says something, even if I'm wrong.
    I don't know what you're paying her, but she's definitely worth the raise! Lol🥰🥰🥰

    Huh... I've never seen a print signed by the printmaker rather than the artist. They're either signed by the artist or by nobody. When talking about the 1200 print she says "You can see a signature at the bottom, the signature usually relates to the printer." That seems like BS to me.

      She's completely wrong about that. I've noticed a lot of errors when she talke about prints. I did various print media in art school. She doesn't know a wood block from a butcher block. It's not a single block process for many colors. Each color has to have it's own block. This is true in any real, hand pulled art print. When you buy a "poster" type print mass produced and signed in ink by the artist, it's not worth the paper it's on. Thomas Kinkaide comes to mind. All art prints in the West are signed and numbered: print# /total # of prints. Signature and number should be in the bottom. margin in pencil. An issue of more than about 150 prints total is worth significantly less than a limited edition of 150 or less.

    There is no PHd in “antiques”.
    The only way to learn is to read, examine lots of things firsthand and experience.
    She’s totally wrong about the signature on the print.
    Artists signed them! Sometimes the printer put a mark, but the pencil signature is always the artist.
    Her valuation on that piece without knowing who signed it is ridiculous.

    The bronze is a reproduction, and the music table sells for $100 and it is $35 crapodimonte figurines.

  • @thomastannler4136
    @thomastannler4136 7 років тому +11

    Lori has little clue to antiques. The bronze is a copy with a value of about $125.00 The Capa di Monte vase continued to made into the 1970s and it is so ugly nobody would buy it. And at a "well advertised" garage sale has a value of about $ 50.00.

    • @treematt1
      @treematt1 5 років тому +2

      I’ve picked lamps from turn of the century, marked Capo di Montes in the lower states from $15 to $25. I have an intricate large basket picked for .50, I’ve seen items similarly sell up to 1500 or more, so it really confuses me on actual value.
