    All anime figurines are made in china nowadays. Its how they are manufactured..the bootlegs are made from inferior materials than the authentic ones. Well the prices tell you a lot..

    did you know that most japan anime figure is made in China because of the labour price? Then Japan company will ship them back to Japan.

    • @jackrippon1604
      @jackrippon1604  6 років тому +8

      Yes i am aware of this, the difference is however they are distributed in Japan not China.

    • @jackrippon1604

      That would be correct yes. I guess i meant only manufactured by Japanese companies, but most are outsourced to Chinese workshops. Thanks for the correction

    In the past, I was like ''I don't care, I am gonna buy the bootleg''. Then I watched the documentary of Good Smile Company .... now I buy the official stuff because the love they input in, designing, painting and producing each figure is worth the extra money!

    Really good and helpful tips you gave here! I purposely avoid buying from sites like eBay and Wish. Really don't want to risk buying a bootleg. They're so ugly looking.
    On the other hand, I'm quite a cheapskate, so I usually end up buying my figures on Japanese secondhand websites, using a proxy shopping service. Can't go wrong if it's straight from Japan :D
    Overall great job on the video! Very informative! ^^

      I got some bootleg figures as a present, and honstly they look really good. Like, I couldn't tell the difference between my bootleg figure and a friends real one. The only difference was that mine is cheaper xD

    If I could I would like to add that most legit figures will have a small authentic sticker somewhere on the box. Whether it be for example Banbresto Dbz figures, there sticker is on top of the box whole say Good Smile has there on the front of theirs. It'll be somewhere more close to the upper middle left of it. It's just something I've noticed that bootleg figures in boxes seem to not have :)

    • @jackrippon1604
      @jackrippon1604  6 років тому +1

      Yes that is a very good point, thanks for the addition. It is rare for bootleggers to attempt to replicate the authenticity sticker but not entirely unpracticed. There have been Good Smile Company fakes with a fake authenticity sticker so still be aware that bootleggers are getting craftier every year in trying to trick people

    • @Brandon-cs8gw
      @Brandon-cs8gw 6 років тому

      They are normally Kodansha stickers~

    One problem I often have with MFC, is when it says a bootleg exists, and there's no photos of the bootleg.
    Thus making it even harder to determine if my figure is a bootleg.

    How to I tell if the figure is fake when it’s second hand. I really can’t tell becuase he does have home taken pictures of it but the figure is at another angle so I can’t tell. Also this chapters is supposed to be white ish gray.

    My brother got me figurines of Mitsuha and Taki from "Your Name" I think it might be a fake. It has both characters in the same box I do not see a logo but on the bottom it says made by "Banpresto" and says "For use as Prize in Japan only", it does have the Craneking logo at the bottom of the box.

    • @jackrippon1604
      @jackrippon1604  6 років тому +2

      Thanks glad I could provide some value. Yes ami ami pre owned section is absolutely legit, I've purchased my Kanon figure from ami ami preowned section.
      They are just figures that people have returned to ami ami after buying for whatever circumstances. There is a rating system that will tell you the condition the figure is in and it is 100% accurate. Basically all of them include the original box and all of the pieces to assemble the figure, the only reason they are discounted is because they have been temporarily used and the box has been opened. Hope that answers your question

  • @angroooo9000

    It says Made in China underneath the box of the one I bought. Does that mean it's counterfeit or is that just normal? Thought it was supposed to say made in Japan.

    I bought a bootleg, to practice figure painting, the figure itself is not that bad but the paintjob is very lazy, also the whole thing was held together by the paint, no glue anywhere, but this was a good thing as I could easily take it apart :P

    I used to have fakes, I got rid of 99% of them, I have 3 SAO fakes, as they were my first ones, and the series I collect (and Miku) the most of! I also have a fake Super Saiyan Goku figure, a large kinda soft one, again, I'm only keeping it as he was my first figure ever, back in 2015! :). I now only buy from actual Anime stores, I have bought from eBay, as ik what to look for, tho I'm definitely going to get away from buying from eBay, unless it's like, a very exclusive one or something! :D.

    • @jackrippon1604
      @jackrippon1604  6 років тому

      I can't tell you exactly who sells bootlegs and who doesn't, Minotaur are reputable but I don't really buy my figures in store I mostly shop online. Years ago I did buy bootleg DVDs from a small store in Melbourne but I can't remember the name.
      AusAni and Madman are both GoodSmile Company official partners and both sell 100 % official products sourced from Japan. If your looking for figures I'd say these websites would be the way to go. Otherwise if you can't find what your looking for I'd say go with Amiami, they are a Japanese store who ship worldwide. Hope I could help

    • @jackrippon1604
      @jackrippon1604  6 років тому +6

      Sorry man, that's not true. Buying bootlegs hurts the industry because none of the money you pay goes to the anime studio or benefits the anime in any way. It's simply supporting the idea of theft of work and integrity and it's just a lazy excuse to pay less.
      I highly advise you to stop supporting bootleggers as they are just con artists and criminals and the figures are not like the originals they are almost always lower in quality and while they may look good to you, there is always a difference. I'd appreciate if you wouldn't spread negative ideals on my channel, as this is a place i'm building to encourage the support of the industry and securing the longevity for fans like myself.
      Take it easy.

      you aren't suppting the original sculptors by buying bootlegs. You are supporting the illegal activity of PLAGIARISM. Who cares if it saves money. Someone irl had to WORK to make the original. Only for people to steal their product and they lose a seller and the money they would have made if u got the original.....note that sculptors in Japan dont make a lot of money...that money could've helped them take care of their childrean. But now they are behind because if this.....think about it like that.....is it STILL "Worth It"?
