Thanks for this excellent strategy - I followed it precisely and beat the Long Gui at my first attempt. It got me the Adamant Will trophy AND the platinum at the same time.
I just used this strategy and got the achievement, thanks man. It got really intense near the end, the boss got up after the second knockdown and used Ultima, killing Lightning and Hope instantly. Fortunately for me I had just enough time to use Highwind with Fang on the bosses 999% stagger gauge, scoring me a win! Thanks for the great tactic!

as an alternate mode and a way to save TP, you should be aware that when the LG is imperilled, even though it is immune to Death, it still takes big damage. If you put Vanille's Death on the queue, fire it, and then switch to commando before it hits, it can do 999,999. I've seen a video of someone beating the LG without having to knock it down a 2nd time - which removes the need for elixir. They still used summon, poison, debuffs though naturally!
Might I suggest summoning and immediately going into Gesalt, then Mega Flare him to save the most time possible? Also, at the very end of his "Stagger" status, use Highwind. With a Genji Glove equipped, you may be able to do up to 999,999 damage.
@ghostmarine216 It's correct that it's immune to the insta-death feature, but if you stagger it to 999%, death'll do 999'999 dmg per hit. Since he's got no more than 16'200'000hp, it's a secure win. If you're low-lvl, you'll also need to tap his health with poison first using the gestalt-mode exploit, but if you're quick at staggering and believe that you can stagger him twise before he gets up -do the latter The downside is that you'll have to regain your TP to at least 3 between each battle.
if you're summoning, be aswell use the death method. 3 sabs, vanille leader with lvl 2 debuf (marlboro), just summon, debuff as much as possible with 2 sabs and a syn until she hasted and faith an adv, swap all sab. You kill it around 1/2 the time maybe 2/3. faster + requires no cash.
@Puffdudles Gestalt will erase the stagger he raised up. If you let him disappear the stagger gauge will remain filled and the party will do much more than the summon would have.
A tip for you guys; you can start off with Vanille as your party leader and slow-tick poison procs for the entire duration of the summon, which generally brings the hit points of Long Gui to about 50-55% just as the summon flies off the first time.
@DarkKakarot315 You could set Lightning to COM and give her a Genji Glove to max out her potential. As for Vanille, she will most likely use Ruin instead of Attack, as Ruin uses the magic stat. Generally COM attacks do more damage than RAV, so after I get stagger to 999%, I usually switch to a team full of COM. Of course, I've only tested this on Adamantoise, not Long Gui.
Because I don't have Omega weapons, I sadly needed to use 2 elixer's and my first try lasted 6 mins 56 secs long. Still a 5 star rating and the achievement, thanks so much for this tutorial
@DarkKakarot315 Actually you have to upgrade character's weapons to tier 3 to get 6 ATB bars, not beat the last boss - the last boss will only unlock the lv10 crystallium.
It's an ok strategy but I've found a strongest one. Fang (Leader), Lightning, Hope. +attack items on Fang and Lightning. +item then whatever on Hope. First move, summon Bahamut. Make sure you are using the Sab + Rav + Rav combo. Debuff the enemy till it has full debuffs then Geist at the last couple of seconds. Attack with that till its Stagger is about up. You can hit for around 500,000+ damage with this. From there go Rav + Rav + Rav till 999% then Com + Com +Com. Rank 8, Star weapons for all.
Those of you who are worried about losing the "precious" elixir. Just do what he did in this video and load your friggin game. You keep the elixir and your trophy/achievement.
@shadowblade255997 You have to do the Cie'th stone missions that are in a circle on the map at the Archylte Steppe - Eastern Tors area. Missions 56-62. Then you can fight Long Guis. I'm not sure if you have to pass Titan's Trials first though.
Well done!! :) Though you can do it by being Vanille and summoning straight away and then just casting death until he goes down :) If youre not strong enough to do it this way :)
@KazeKage572 It doesn't work on the Long Gui, which is why it's so hard to defeat. Not sure about the Shaolong Gui, but they're easy enough to kill by dazing them. ^^
@Itmeow ah dont worry, you just need to have had all the items at one point XD but really make sure to make a checklist and check off the equipment as you get them. i would at least keep 1 of each item to be able to do that.
@DarkKakarot315 o.o can I ask a question? Couldn't you have killed him quicker if you used Fang's Exclusive Camando skill highwind the very moment before his 999% stagger depletes? Or do you not do it since you can do more damage from regular skills o.o I think you could've easily dealt almost a mil of hp from it and thanks for the guide :D will try it out xD unfortunately looks like i'm saying good buy to one of my 3 doc codes so I can get another elixer :P last one was used to 5star mis. 64
@DarkKakarot315 death doesn't work on long gui anyways, at least not instantly. A good method of killing them is getting 999.99% stagger and then casting death, instantly switching to cerberus paradigm to boost damage and back, you'll do 1m damage per cast, taking it down pretty quickly.
that is true, i actually beat long gui today in 7 mins, i used fang leader, snow, and vanile as my party, i had all my classes set up with triple ravenger, comando,sent,sab,med,and syn. i used 2 t3 weapons, kains lance max out from taming pole and nirvana 83 and snow with power cirlce at 15 x.x lol idk how i beat him, but i only used the summon once the rest was just shifting through my classes lol lg was a pain in the ass, but not as much as showlong gui that is a real pain in the ass x.x
Question: After you get Stagger to 999% why don't you switch to Aggression or Cerberus instead of staying at Relentless? Won't that speed things up a bit?
Dude death works, worked for me on my 6th attempt, as in cast, took my 4 re-trys untill I got it. Using Vanille's wep that gives boosted debuffing gives a better chance of it working. I bet this guy on chapter 12 when you have the option to fight it before entering the hall lol. Also Idk if it being staggered helps it to work but I managed to get it when I was staggered so yeah =P
Wow, great job killing it with a maximum of 60k hits =) Although, I'd advise you to use Vanille's Genji Glove+Death trick. fbGorillus have great tactics for people who are early in the game-timeline. No disrespect, DarkKakarot ;)

If your only target is staggered with a full 999 stagger bar, you're better off switching to Cerberus (all commandos). Also, while your method does work, it's not a very effective means of farming, since there are only a few Elixirs possible in the game. Oh, and you don't have to keep a Doctor's Code for the Treasure Hunter trophy--you only have to HAVE HAD every weapon and accessory for that. =)
Long Gui and that other one will apear after you finish those missions on that map (those in circle). I did it without summon and without shrouds. And let me tell you this... MAN THAT WAS HARD. Triple Sentinel saved my ass fiew times (Ultima)
Wish I would've thought to use an elixier and shourd, this fight took me about 1 hour because he killed me like 5 times, and when i did kill him the fight took about 18 mins.
in all honesty, this coul have been improved in a few ways. 1) use genji glove 2) cerberus 3) kill before he gets up again. elixers are too rare to waste on this guy. mark 64 and 62 are worth it though.

so your discritption says that you need to hold onto one of the doctors codes in order to get the trasure hunter achivement. i've read places that you don't need to have all the items in your inventory at once... please say this second part is true because i already dismantled all of my doctors codes into elixirs.
@Zeromarv95 its a mission boss, not a regular 1 or the endgame 1 during the storyline so obviosly since it casts ultima (only seen it cast from 2 things in this game!) it must be a tough cookie, i, however, have already taken him down, i got death hit first try n walkd away...

@phillmo21 what i did was did all missions exept the last one and finished the game but only found one so i went back to orphans cradle and fought bartendulus and orphan again and now gran pulse is full of long gui
You could also use the Sazh, Fang, Lightning strategy, summon, gestalt right away, debuff, stagger using Cold Blood (ravengers), go all COMs, and have Sazh use Blitz x3 over and over. Should be able to kill him in 1 stagger. That way you aren't wasting elixirs. If you have 3 genji gloves (1 on each character) and over 2500 atk, should be a cake walk.
i dont really like this method, it feels too...lucky? if lightning knows enfire, she can cast it when all the buffs are in your party. also fang and vanille are excellent for syn because they both learn bravera/faithra which increases strength and magic by 75% (although it ends faster). basically what im tryong to say is that theyre are alot of alternatives instead of havibg to constantly use elixers, agisol, etc. but i do commend you for beating him without a maxxed crystarium
dude i dont use those things i didnt use any eidolon and i used my strengt and THE MOST IMPORTANT THING A SENTINEL if long gui attack you with ultima he can kill you in one hit the sentinels ability you remain 1 hp switch to medic heal your party and then fight on u dont need any eidolon if your that strong or any shrouds

@KazeKage572 It works with the Shaolong Gui, Adamantoise and Adamantortoise. The Long Gui is immune.
I love how it cowers in fear when you summon.

@rebelad no a trapezohedrons is the only way to upgrade your weapons from tier 2 to tier 3

you have to complete the circle of cieth stones on gran pulse and beat titans challenenge to make em appear

If you use Lightening as your party leader and switch Espionage to Infiltration you can beat him way faster using the same technique

did you use a genji glove because you can hit him with 999,999 damage if equipped wich makes it a lot easier

don't you get treasure hunter for having held every item in the game? The description says if you get rid of your doctor's codes you might not get it.

You should know this by now but you get 6 atb with their Ultimate weapons which adds 1 bar onto it. The crystarium gives an atb bar level too

It can be done with no tp, items nor shrouds :)

The only way your able to fight a long gui is to beat the circle of ceith. then all the adamantoise turn into long gui.
