Soviet Green (4BO) Distressing Tutorial
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 сер 2024
- Although I demonstrated this technique in one of my first videos, I thought it deserved a more detailed and updated tutorial, so here it is. I'll make distressing tutorials for other common camouflage colors in the future, but the technique is gonna be always pretty much the same. That being said, this method is very flexible so you can put or own twist on it and change the order of layers and methods. Using a sponge or the speckling technique could be also used during this process. Even the sky is not the limit.

As a CG artist I love seeing where the techniques I use digitaly are similar with the modeling world ! Chipping fluid = masks, black/brown wash = ambient oclusion. Your work is super impressive and I love it !
For drawings it's also useful

skidaddle skidoodle smelling too much enamel turns ur brain into a noodle. jk yey another video I am a faithful sub.
Well then I guess my brain is made of Spaghetti
I imagine this is an excellent technique for making a model that looks like it's been stored outdoors for several years, as some museum vehicles are.
It will work great for that too. However for an operational vehicle it has to be overly strong, because the upcoming weathering techniques will tone it down.
Im always really happy when you upload because i know i will learn something and will broaden my knowledge of modelling techniques.
Love your tutorials 100% and the humorous tones are what make you above the rest out there! Great work and I have learned a lot of new techniques from watching your videos! Cheers and keep up the killer work!
One of my most anticipated weekly videos! Love it
By far one of the best paint tutorial channel on the block. The information found here is quite helpful for any type of modeling and hobby-ing type crafts where you’d want to weather and distress small things and all that good jazz. I know at this point I want to try my hand at some type of military vehicle maybe even in the sci-fi category. Once I find a good place to buy them. Keep up the Night Shift you’re awesome. 🤙🏼
One of the best tutorials on scale modeling on YT. Simply explained, easy to follow. I will use this technique for sure on my next model, especially that I'm after some green camo tank this time. Liked, subscribed and waiting for more. Warmest regards from Poland!
Another informative video with some nice techniques. I always look forward to the announcements.
Your voice over and teaching skills are as excellent as your modelling. Thank you!
Almost 1000 likes and ZERO dislikes speaks for itself i think. This is such a refreshing and entertaining, but also helping channel. Thank you for your effort showing us your magic.
I recently got back into modeling after a 10 year hiatus. I’ve picked up a bunch of 1/72 T-55s, T-72s, and a random T-80. Your videos have been a huge help and a source of inspiration.
Awesome video as always. Can never get enough of your videos!
Yet another great tutorial from uncle Night Shift. Friday is not complete until I’ve watched the day’s vid. Thanks!
I cannot express how I love your videos mate, and I can not wait to use some of your techniscques on my models!
Now ready for painting the tracks, nicely done 🤩👍
Great job!As always.
I smashed that subscribe button after I watched the first video months ago this is my favorite channel can't wait till Fridays so I can watch a new video keep them coming uncle night shift
This is brilliant! thank you for the great technique
Yes! I’d stalled on a built-but-unpainted Soviet armored locomotive kit and this looks perfect for it. Thanks so much!
Great results and you make it look so simple.
Yes! Love the weird distressed paint you get on Russian armour - everything from 'minty' greens to 'poopy' yellows & browns. I really want to try this!
Exactly, 4BO is the best color!
Another cool entertaining & educating flick - thanks a lot!
I always thumbs up your videos, before i watch it, coz i know your videos are all perfect help for me, thank you mate
Can't wait for next part!
Thanks for posting! Got up early today to do a bit of work on an M3 Stuart after finishing base paint coat yesterday. Watched this over a coffee first and tried straight away. Worked great and looks cool! Favourite modelling channel by far... like very far... 👍
I might try this technique with my old Airfix Panzer IV!
great paint techniques. thanks for the video!
Excellent video as always.
Can't wait for the next vid, amazing techniques 😎
Yet again another great video, winter camo for the next video :D hahaha the bloopers crack me up every time.
Top content, dude, as always :)
Another perfect tutorial. Thanks!
Great video. Looking forward to the next stage.
That technique looks great. Can’t wait to try this myself on my Russian t40 which is waiting for its paintjob! Thanx for the clear instructions.
I just did two Tamiya 1:35 models with this technique. A T-34/76 and a SU-85. So far so good 😊! Thank you Martin!
Great as usual! I would love to see this technique on a gray german panzer!
Thank you Martin. Another great video.
that is an awesome technique great video as always
crazy man love it such a simple model tank comes to life !
Sweet, a new tank video! I love this channel!
Thanx for useful video. Waiting next!
Looks Awesome!
I just wanna nominate you as the Analogue Modeller president of the world...I too am an analogue modeller; is it Friday yet? Seriously...your step by step videos are great tutorials, you now have me so excited to try all these steps, slowly I am buying the products you are using (shameless plug for more free products for you). Todays chipping is perfect, thank you so very much!
Excellent video,.. toughly enjoyed it! ☘️
Looks great!
Looks great, Martin. I'll have to try this effect some time.
very awesome result, and it's just the base paint!
Thank you Martin for this video.
Currently binge watching your videos! Love your sense of humor. Especially when you said 'do it now' in the Arnie voice (Which is probably just your voice!).
I would love to see you build the Academy T-34/85 Berlin. I think your style of weathering would work amazingly well on it! I look forward to more content!
Nice work as usual
Fabulous! Considering most tanks are green this is an excellent way of breaking up the sometimes monotone appearance and add a lot of realism. So excellent work as usual Mr Nightshift 😂
Outstanding job as always mate. G’day from Australia
Wonderful demonstration Martin! I'm going to try this out on a Sherman I'm building.
Great video for the beginning of the weekend. I hope we won't wait for too long on your next video.
Just another week :)
Great info again dude! Your videos are making want to do one! I'm ordering tools and a kit soon.
Beautiful work Martin. Next Friday can't come quick enough.
BEAUTIFUL
Excellent! Loving your 1/72 series. My next project will be the KV-1E. Thanks!
Awesome job
I am less stressed with distressing now! Thanks mate...Hi from a cg FX artist in Hollywood!
That was really awesome! Most of my models are 'factory fresh' but I can't wait to do a weathered model some day.
Really enjoyed the video
I've already tried this technic on a 1:72 T-72 after your Chi-Ri video. It's really fun to do, an easy and really showy technic.
As a 3d modeller (as in cgi) , watching these videos is quite interesting, it gives me some interesting ideas on how to approach texturing and a lot of what you do on the computer is similar to this
As always a totally excellent video. I hope you are making some money doing these. Thanks
Nice job!!!
The black on the hull sides behind the wheels is just like a shadow in 3d modelling, really good effect for realism
Yup, it works as a fake shadow if you can't reach that area with the subsequent paint layers.
Awesome video dude, can't wait for next Friday! I need to build a tank now!!
Love it!
Really interesting technique!
Great video thanks 👍🏻
I'm just a noob modeller (just started in January) and this build so for makes me hopeful that if I F up my noob builds, I can still save it when I get good.
Hello pal, I just signed up... I always love your videos! lol
Brilliant!
Excellent job as usual the technique used as inspired me to do this with my next build. Also thanks for the tip on the 4BO paint you use as i am on the look out for the perfect 4BO. I am using AK Interactive at the moment which alright but i am always willing to try different brands. Thanks for another awesome video.
AK 4BO is great but a little bit on the pure green side. MRP has that perfect khaki/dark yellow tint to it. I'm not an expert on authentic colors, so my opinion is mostly based on how I like it :)
Great. Very useful. Thank You ;)
Analog modeller! Yep, you made my day! :D
I will definitely try this
Really good looking my friend!!! :)
I like it and will try it.
Thank you , Martin .
Thnx Martin, working on a KV1 German capture. This helped out a lot!!!! Cheers
Nice technique. In fact, it's perfect timing as I think that it could be great to add texture on a paint brick wall that building now.
Interesting technique, thanks....
Love your videos and techniques. I would only add that if you could post all the different products you used in the video it would be most helpful to those who wish to replicate the process.
Just getting back into modelling after a 30 year absense and have a T-34 tank and mig ammo green paint for it so found this video just in time!
Love these 72nd scale models
Nice technique, I`m gonna try it on an airplane as an alternative to salt weathering... Thanks Martin.
I cried. It was very distressing to watch.
one more comment because you should always comment at least twice on all the best youtube videos :)
Nice!!!
You've certainly come a long long way since this video .
That was a very distressing tutorial.
I've watched this 10 times to get reasoning and details as to why he does it a certain way. I was using hair spray and got the same results too.
Grate job ;)
Strong tonk. I'm going to " winter" paint my Heng Long 1/16 scale KV-2 professional with this tecnique. And some "hair-spray" chip paint. It will be interesting. All the best to you all...
Will definitely be giving this a try on my DML 1/35 scale Tiger and, by the way, went with a semi gloss black primer 😉
great foundation for weathering
Excellent video but I will have to wait and see how this comes together.....................pretty stark right now but I have faith you will pull it off 😉
