I'm a day late but I completely relate to this fear. I moved out of San Diego in a really traumatic way losing all my friends in a falling out in our apartment (we lived together) and it took me two years to be able to make friends again.
But my advice came from my mom she told me that she didn't make her lifelong friends until her late 20s early 30s so there's still time
That was comforting to me so I hope it helps

please try to hold your inner child close for as long as you can... the older you get the harder it is to hold on to them, and it genuinely feels like a loss, or a death, of an aspect of yourself that you NEED to keep alive..
there's absolutely nothing wrong with maintaining childlike wonder, having fun, playing, being "childish" - it's the most pure version of ourself and deserves to be cherished.
growing up is hard.. and being "grown up" isn't inherently "better"..
keep doing what you're doing Adam, it's very healthy - for your soul.

Oooohhhhh, my little Adam, you’re in between my oldest and youngest sons in age. I’ve had a lot of experience with moving and making and losing friends. There was no FB or social media when that happened. I’ve reconnected with people I haven’t seen since high school. My advice is to tell your friends how you’re feeling. Tell them you’re scared of losing them. Express what’s in your heart. Make the effort with the people you really don’t want to lose. I know that I’d want my friend to tell me if they felt that way.

I'm 32 and it is still hard for me when jobs come to an end. For the most part, I hate jobs, but I've met great people everywhere I've worked and made friends with them. It's hard to leave them behind and know things won't ever be the same. I think now I try to accept and mourn that things will be different before I'm physically removed from the people I know I will miss. New experiences come with new friends and the ones that are meant to stay will make the same effort you do to stay in touch. It doesn't matter how much time has passed, just stay in touch with the people that make you feel like no time has passed even when you haven't talked in weeks, months, or over a year. Adult relationships are hard, but it gets easier with time. The older you get they more you'll figure out the best way to handle it in your personal life....
Also, cat food is totally gross lol.

I find it hard to make friends now in my late 20s cuz everyone is so busy and I'm married now but it's not the same ya know. I find that now that I'm an adult I like the stuff I liked as a kid alot more cuz when I was younger I was made fun of for stuff I liked and now no one really cares and you can find a community online that likes the same stuff

i've been afraid of losing people in my life for so long, and it really started eating away at me recently. don't let it consume you, but do let it drive you to love the people in your life even more. it sounds stupid, but love is really all anyone can give and look back on at the end of the day. i regret not spending time with certain people, and even now i want to do more to spend time with people currently in my life. making room and making time for people is so important, and sometimes it's a painful and scary thing to realize, but when all is said and done, loving is the only thing we can do. i hope you're feeling alright adam :)

Don't ever apologize for being vulnerable and crying, those are important things to feel and let out. Crying is something that happens almost automatically because your body needs to release something 💙 About the friendship thing: We can't avoid befriending people and losing them, it happens. I can't even count the amount of times where I've slipped away from people. I used to feel so guilty, but with time I've learned it's just part of the process. I believe everyone in our life serves a purpose, however long they stay 😊 Have a great time with your grandparents! x

I've fed all my pets over the years, Purina. The type I fed them depended on the sensitivity, age, size, and breed of my pets. Old age, cancer, or other unavoidable conditions being the causes of death. But every one of my pets lived to be over a decade old.
Keep it up! You're doing great!

My cat recently had to have 7 teeth removed (my vet said cats just either have good teeth or bad teeth so it’s normal) and his entire life/personality has been different! It’s scary to have your kitty under a procedure like that but it will make his quality of life 10000% better and he will probably eat more since it probably hurts now. Milo will feel so much better if he needs the work done so just keep that in mind when you get nervous about it❤️

I appreciate how open you are with your feelings and introspections on here. It's good to understand that you might grow distant from some of your friends, but sometimes distance can have the opposite effect and can solidify how much you value someone. One thing I've learned as I've got older, it's less about constant contact and more about finding those connections where you can go weeks without talking, but then pick up like there was never a separation in the first place. I think a lot of it comes down to both parties embracing the reality that our lives often do diverge in at least some areas, but that it's not the end of something if you make the effort to hold on. And that's not to say you didn't try hard enough before, not at all, but it's also something that evolves more as you age and grow. I have long-term friends, but almost none of them are from my early 20s. There are people who, if they contacted me now after years of not speaking, I'd have no doubt we'd fall back into step with one another, but it's just a matter of finding the time and space for that reconnection. Sometimes it just doesn't happen and that's okay, too. Figuring out how to take comfort in those nostalgic memories while also acknowledging that some friendships have run their course is a very interesting journey. I take great solace in the fact that no matter how short a friendship was, ultimately, we had a meaningful impact on one another and helped shape each other in some way. That's the thing I think is most magical and fascinating about human beings - the smallest interaction can have an incredible impact or meaning for a person. Something so simple as a single act of kindness that you forget a moment later could be the positive moment that helps someone make it through another day. It's a reason I feel so strongly about how I treat other people in general, whether I know them or not. Because it matters so much more than we realise. It's so easy to feel small in a universe as vast as ours with so many varying points of view, opinions and experiences, but we are far more important to the fabric of our world than we usually see.
Talk about getting introspective and deep. I guess I'm in a mood today. Lemme bring it back around to say this: there is never any guarantee that you will keep the friends you make at any given time. People grow and change and move apart. Sometimes the distance can be closed easily and sometimes it's best to close that particular chapter. I think what's most important to internalise is what that person meant to you and how you positively impacted one another and that you each carry a bit of one another in yourselves regardless of whether you end up staying close friends as time moves on. And that is so special and such a gift. The only "advice" I can really give if you're really concerned about losing anyone in particular is just to try to make it a point to make a regular connection. Once a week, phone them. Send them random memes. If you find something reminding you of them or thinking of them, shoot them a text to let them know you've not forgotten them. That sort of thing. It doesn't guarantee anything, but it can go a long way to keeping a friendship door open.
Anyway, I'm tired and a bit off kilter today, so I hope this isn't a rambling mess, but that's the best advice I can give. Sending you lots of love from Cultchie Country~

Cats are obligate carnivores. Please look for reputable commercial fresh/raw food in your area. If you can't/won't feed raw (or gently cooked fresh meat), please always feed wet food. Cats are prone to kidney disease and need to get moisture from their food. More information: Julie-Anne Moore with Naturally Cats, the Two Crazy Cat Ladies, and Dr. Judy Morgan.

Hey Adam and any fellow dog lovers…the reason you can feed a dog or cat RAW chicken wings is because the bones are softer/chewier and easy to digest. When cooked, that is when the bones are likely to splinter and can be harmful.

I'm slightly late to the game, but here's some of the things I've learned from my animal-obsessed roommate! I might not be able to share this information as well as they could but I'll give it my best effort:
    • A good tip to help sus out which foods are good to give to your cat and dogs is to check the ingredients, if at least the first 3 are real meat then it's likely going to be better for them! The first ingredients are the ones that are the most prominent in the food, unfortunately companies aren't required to put exactly how much of each ingredient is in the food, but there's more of the ingredients that are higher on the list. (Our dog gets Orijen, Acana, and Rawbble most of the time, and our cats get a range of wet food from N&D, to Weruva, to Tiki Cat, to Open Farm, to to Stella & Chewys, etc.)
    • You're already doing this, but wet food is awesome for cats because they're naturally dehydrated (due to the fact that their tongues don't scoop water like a dog's does, so it takes Way more licks of water to drink enough, and that's also why they tend to like running water more). And while dogs are actually omnivores, cats are carnivores so they need more emphasis on meat than dogs do (but both need it of course).
    • You totally don't need to make meals from scratch for your animals, that's a ton of work and while it can be very good for your animals it can also be detrimental if you don't fully know how to balance their meals. So just make sure you look at whether the food you buy for your pets says whether or not it's a complete meal! Cats especially will have canned food or pouches that are just for treats, sometimes it takes like 2 cans per meal to be enough nutrition, or some are just straight up not covering all their nutrients and they need to be paired with something else. So just make sure you read the labels to see what they say!
    • To help Milo gain weight, I've heard that more protein can really help with that, so look for higher protein content in his foods! You can also give him some more treats cause he's a good boy 😺 (my cat has the opposite problem so I have to make sure his diet isn't too rich)
Hope these bits help! I'm not an expert and I could be incorrect about some stuff so please do research as well (although I will say be a little careful about some vets, because a ton of them will have gone to schooling that is sponsored by big companies like Science Diet or Royal Canin, and those foods are not as good for pets as far as I understand it). It's perfect that you already care so much about your animals Adam, you're doing great.

  • @mbookshop
    @mbookshop Рік тому +2

Hi Adam, that is indeed a universal thing. When I was a bit younger than you are now, I thought friendships were supposed to be forever. But with time, I learned that most relationships you create during your life, are seasonal. You might like someone a lot but they were meant to be in your life during a certain stage, a certain time, and you the same for them, and then you both move on and go in different paths. That is normal. People will come and go , and just a few will stay forever. Appreciate the good things you lived and learned from them. When you’re older , you will also be able to see how you only clicked with certain people when you did because you were at a certain phase of your life , or in certain circumstances, and you gave each other what you needed at that time. And it’s ok to love people even though they’re not a part of your life.

Adam, I completely agree with what you said about giving your dogs chicken wings! We've been happy dog owners for 24+ years, and we've always given them RAW beef, RAW chicken wings, RAW pork, etc. It is SO healthy for them! The bone marrow is wonderful for them (and ppl too). They're so rich in vitamins, healthy fats, and minerals. So good for their teeth too! We have only had one dog who has had a very iffy gut and the raw chicken didn't agree with him. He got RAW beef and pork, and was fine with it. We also have also mixed in cans of squash, pumpkin, sweet potato, and rice with the raw meat and they have all LOVED it! Our three Shiloh Shepherds have outlived most dogs of their kind, and we had a Papillon that loved raw chicken. Listen to your Vet! They sound like they know more than most ppl do!

As an almost 29 year old, I've definitely experienced my fair share of "friendship breakups" or just simply drifting apart from someone for one reason or another. It is sad, however it just means that that person served their purpose for you in that time that you did share and vice versa. The people who you are meant to be friends with for life will always be there. I had a friend that was like a sister to me from the ages of 13 to about 17 and then in high school we had a falling out. We didn't talk again til we were 23 going on 24 and when we did, we became best friends all over again! We still are to this day and I was even a bridesmaid in her wedding last year.
All this just to say, true friends are friends for life. Even if you go years without seeing each other. The love will always still be there. 😊

Ideally, a raw food diet for cats is the best. HOWEVER, its expensive, and with you traveling so much, you'll have to rely on another human being to safely thaw and prepare food for your fur baby. So I would reccommend a wet food diet. I feed my cats Instinct, Tiki Cat, specifically the AFTER DARK variety pack. Idk what you have in your country but just look at the ingredients. the rule of thumb for me is looking at the first 5 ingredients. Look for specific meat, like chicken, beef, turkey, NOT MEAT BY PRODUCT, because you don't even know what kind of meat you're feeding them. I stay away from fish because fish quality has gone down these past two years. Look for specific organ meat. Like chicken liver or chicken heart. If it says organ by products, it's a mish mash and you dont know what specifically is going in the food. I stay away from carageenan, but that's my choice, some don't believe it's cancerous in pet food like it is in human food but do what you feel is best. Stay away from food dyes.

It sucks the reason I don’t get on Snapchat anymore and don’t look at past memory because it’s hard. What I think about now is to appreciate the ones that are in my life now and try to make new memories. I hate reading , but I think of my life as a story book. Who is very close as chapters and some of those chapters I still have bookmarks in.

So.. my advice is to like... be open with your feelings like you'd be open with gifts. I have a lot of distant friends, and what makes me feel better about it and manage it, is to send them pictures of things that remind me of them as soon as it happens.
It could be a trinket in a shop, or a meme, or anything.
we keep up that way, and it's an excuse to catch up. ^^
I also like having remote coffee dates where each person goes to their favorite coffee shop or local cafe, sits, gets their order, and are on a video call. That way it can still be close.
The growing apart can still happen. But it can happen a little slower, yknow?

You are very emotionally intelligent. I don't know if you had wonderful parents who taught that to you, or if you had to learn those things yourself. Regardless, you can see it. The way you talked about the introspection about your inner child. I think you are also someone who is very intuitive, and pick up on things that others don't.

I'm 26 now, but I left my town and 2 best friends behind at 18-20 ish. We were like an inseparable trio, the kind of friends who sit on the toilet while you're showering so you don't have to quit talking for a moment, and who've seen each other at their messiest and lowest. We continued to talk but over the years it dwindled, now we don't even say happy birthday or merry Christmas. Our last memory is driving around on my younger friend's grad day listening to gaga's "the cure" talking about how afraid we were that we might grow apart after I move.

Your fear of losing people reminds me of a poem by Brian Chalker which reads “People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.” Although sometimes it makes me sad, after 40 years I’ve found that it is very true.

My mainecoon x ragdoll LOVES and has been on Purina Beyond ONE - Indoor , or hairball Advantage for awhile now and his coat stays shiney and soft!
    *For wet food:*
    Purina Beyond One Wet Food
Or Tiki Cat if you can afford it!
I found the Purina One line seems to be middle range of high quality - low quality and same with price range.
Tiki cat is top notch though but expensive af

I feel you on people being in your life for seasons… it’s hard and a part of growing up in your teens-twenties. Sometimes people just don’t make effort when the person isn’t right in front of them. It’s no one’s fault but I feel like reaching out is very simple if you want to make it work. I get super attached to people quickly and build my whole future with them in it but you might keep a lot of your friends from Brighton and you never know you can still go and visit time to time. ❤

Katkin - 100% meat, can get it delivered monthly, you keep in freezer and just pop a couple in the fridge every few days to thaw/feed.

Re: cat food, i have 2 kittens who ADORE untamed. It's very good quality subscription and uses human grade meat and fish. I thought it would be so expensive but it was cheaper than the whiskas and wainwrights mix i was giving them. The do an £8, 6 day trial, well worth trying. One of our kittens is very picky and cleans her plate at every meal time. That never happened before!

I’m 42 now, I’ve had so many friends come in and out of my life, especially when I was around your age. Occasionally since social media has been a thing, they’ll pop back up. My best friend from 12-18 is still my friend and we sometimes get time to talk, but another friend from our group has been my best friend for nearly the past 25 years. There was a group of five of us, for about 10 years I was the only one still in our home area. Everyone else, including my bestie, lived 10+ hours away until right before the pandemic when one of them moved back home. Still haven’t seen her in person lol. All that to say, it’s normal to have friends come in and out of your life, especially as everyone gets older and busier. Reach out and catch up when you can, but know you’ll collect new people and experiences as time goes on

My SUPER picky cat, who actually had to have a feeding tube in her neck for over a month, after completely refusing to eat, would only eat the beef and the chicken flavor of Wellness brand canned cat food. She also only liked the pate, no chunks. She was prescribed expensive Royal Canin brand food from her specialist vet, but of course she hated that. Cats, man…. 🙃

The really good friends, the true friends will stick around no matter the distance. Yes it takes work- but good/real friends want to put the work in. If a friend can’t find the time to put in a little work- even to text etc- are they really a good friend?!

You’re the sweetest 😊your parents did a fantastic job.
People, relationships change and we often have, or need to move on in life, I had a “ride and die” person who I thought would be in my life for always. But…We gradually grew apart due to work and lifestyle changes that conflict in the path we wanted and needed to travel. So I feel it’s totally normal. especially in a non-romantic relationship. We had no drama, no misunderstanding. We just grew apart. I wish them all the best, always.
You’re fine, and you’ll be fine, no worries ❤

Adam, try Lily’s Kitchen, Blink, Scrumbles or even bistro. My cats eat all of them and your milo is the twin of my boy Zeus. They are grain free and good quality food. I’d suggest Katkin when you move as it’s all fresh food but you need a freezer to store it.
