The sliding rear seat was a great advantage and made it a lot more versatile if you were transporting adults vs kids vs groceries vs dogs. I can't believe more did not have this feature.
My parents just bought this car in galaxy silver for $14,500 (used). I love it. Reclining and sliding back seats, awesome radio, a cd holder under the console, and more. :)
I was looking at either a Chevrolet Equinox or a Pontiac Torrent for my first car. I needed a car that is versatile, good on gas, and safe. This review kind of scared me away from the Equinox/Torrent because they're really bad on gas. I ended up with a Chevrolet HHR and so far it's an excellent vehicle (knock on wood).
Hayden's Productions I’m just saying an HHR? There are better cars in that year bracket that you could’ve gotten . With awd and versatility., I.e Subaru’s forester or outback . We rented an HHR when my dads car was in the shop and that thug drove like it had no shocks . I’m just saying you should’ve gotten something other than Gm in that year
I had this 05 Equinox LT AWD in black. The truck was great for the three years I owned it (2009-2012). The engine was only able to get the truck to 108MPH. The truck was great until a woman t-boned me and the insurance totaled it. I then picked up a 09 SPORT AWD in black granite. The Sport will truly let you know that its engine has more power and a shiftable 6 speed automatic able to do 120MPH+ stock!
Head gasket issues on alot of the 2005 2006 models just bought one for 250 dollars and only 130000 miles and this isn't the first time the head gasket has been changed looking at the non factory gaskets when I tore it apart but now I have a car that looks and runs great for less than 500 after finishing doing the motor
The only problem I have with my 2005 Equinox is When you have the Defrosters on you lose all the cabin heat so it can get cold... Turn off defrosters and your heat is back.. Still A Great Vehicle That I Have Owned Since 2005
@johnpa2006 I happen to like the equinox, I have been eyeballing a 2005 black 2WD model at a used car dealer on my way to work, I was going to stop in and check it out this weekend, this kinda makes me skeptical now. I'll still look but man, its like finding out a hot girl your just starting to date has uncontrollable flatulence problems. Knowing your going to be all up in there makes me cringe a little but I may go forth.....hey whats that smell.
radudeATL sadly mine recently looked like that, had its chrome mid grill snatched off by some thiefs when I parked it in a sketchy neighborhood where a close friend of mine lives
yea I have an 06 it seems good on the hwy, drove it 4hr from Tallahassee to Orlando/Tampa area a couple of times and had to fuel it up when I have gotten to my destination, but street miles per gallon is meh, its ok but compared to others it could be better
Question to mechanic or persons who have owned this car, I am looking at one of these 2006 equinox, it has 173,000 miles on it and is being sold for 2200. The problem is that the drivers side cv half shaft is stuck so the car doesn't move, if it were to be repositioned or replaced will it move? And would it be worth buying? And what's the average cost for repair on it...found the car on craigslist
@blacuraRL I looked on Wikipedia and your 100% right, I knew they all import parts from all over but I didnt know the entire engine AND the trans came from china. man, no wonder chevy has been having so much trouble. and they still have the balls to try and charge so much more for their cars. no wonder their struggling.
PHOENIX RISING how about you actually *RESEARCH*. The LA1 in the Alero was made in New York, and completely *different* than the *Chinese* built SAIC LNJ 3.4 used in the Equinox. Either way they’re both junk. Weak wrist pins, intake gaskets etc. there’s a reason that you don’t see Equinox or Alero/Grand Ams on the road anymore. Their engines either shit themselves or they rusted away in under 10 years. Typical GM shit. There’s a reason why GM went bankrupt, they were completely incompetent and couldn’t build a halfway decent car to save their lives, LITERALLY!
we had so much bad luck with the equinox we bought it in 08 and my dad got rearend and also back into a tree then we ran into a flatbed which if u watch this video u will see the wreck with the flat bed Type once in a life time wreck and watch
I have an equinox 2005 74000 +\- miles almost like new for sale ... Aka new transmission, head gaskets, transmission modulator, shocks, tires, and drive shaft... What a wonderful vehicle #sarcasm
We just traded my sister's 05 Equinox in for a new Mazda CX-5. I was planning on keeping the Equinox does it would probably be my sister's list car but due to the GM reliability and all the trouble we had with it we traded it no more GM ever
One of the WORST vehicles in terms of quality GM has ever made. It's engine was assembled in China, and had tons of problems with a leaky intake manifold, transmissions, A/C, etc. There may be good ones out there though...
blacuraRL You are correct! This car is an engineering nightmare. The 60° V6 has a horrible intake gasket design that eventually introduces air into the sealed engine coolant. This eventually through cavitation destroys the head gasket and block deck around cylinder #2 and blows the head gasket. The inner bumper behind the plastic and Styrofoam bumper cover rusts through causing a dangerously weak front impact situation that can't be seen. The air conditioning condenser fails quickly because of its location and exposure to rocks and salt. The paint pocks and the clear coat in some areas peels. The interior panels are poorly made and the paint wears off around switches most notably around the drivers side window switch and drivers door handle. The engine is sandwiched in in such a way as to make maintenance miserable. The rear bank spark plugs need to be changed from under the vehicle. The EGR valve tube splits causing a check engine light to come on. The fix was to update the entire EGR valve and tube for over $500. This requires reprogramming the computer to except the new parameters. The transmission cooler line fails at the plastic clips and as of 2018 the part is no longer available. Which means it has to be patched instead of being replaced. I could go on and on.. If you buy this car MAKE DAM SURE you get the extended warranty.
I still have mine and it’s 2019! The only really annoying part was water leaking into the cabin from a worn out seal, and I hate changing the headlights because I have to remove the entire plastic chrome 😂 i haven’t got rid of it because it’s been way more reliable then any other vehicle I’ve had. I hate the Side thick pillars so bad tho.
That’s true. My 2005 Saturn Vue manual is much better. Has a 2.2 liter Honda engine, not whatever the hell this is. I also like that the overall size is smaller and I hate chrome.
Just got a 2015 with 90,000 miles on it. Glad to see positive experiences with this vehicle.
The sliding rear seat was a great advantage and made it a lot more versatile if you were transporting adults vs kids vs groceries vs dogs. I can't believe more did not have this feature.
Just bought one for $800. Gonna need a ton of work, but I'm excited :)
How's it running? We've had a 05 equinox and it's starting to get old with it's 200,000+ miles we've put on it for the passed now about 17 years
I just got one for $500 with only 107500 miles needs a little suspension work and brakes, runs great I'm a little excited myself lol
Damn bro hopefully you got it running lol
I love this car, only thing I hate about it is the fuel consumption. I spent about 60-80 dollars on gas!
